..."Dancers desperate to find grace and beauty in an otherwise ugly world..." No, it's not the tagline for
The one-hour comedy pilot, for now being called Steps, is Kauffman's first pilot since the NBC series that gave her wheelbarrows full of money. It's set in a family-run dance studio, but she says it's not based on any particular dancing family-- not even her own family, even though she says her mother danced for the Mafia during the Depression and later opened her own dance studio.
And yes, Kauffman tells The Hollywood Reporter: "It's really about dancers. They're desperate to find grace and beauty in an otherwise ugly world. They are very special people." At least that separates the show from Friends, which was really about Yuppies desperate to find sex in a Caucasian world. They were very annoying people. Especially the dumb one who got the spinoff.
