TVgasm EXCLUSIVE - Survivor, Big Brother and Now Amazing Race All Stars -
by madeyoulaugh
While we all eagerly await B-Side's recap of last night's Amazing Race, TVgasm has credible confirmation that the eleventh season of The Amazing Race, which begins shooting next month, will be an ALL STAR edition. So far the only teams who are credibly confirmed to return are Collin and Christy and Mirna and Schmirna. There have been a few seasons worth of speculation as to when TAR would bring in the ALL STAR element. Rumors circulated in July that the folks at Bruckheimer were checking availability of previous racers for Oct/Nov, but now TVgasm has learned contracts have been signed and racers will return for the eleventh season, which begins shooting next month.
I'm not sure what the point of an Amazing Race All Star is. Unlike Survivor and Big Brother, Amazing Race is far less about strategy and more about tasks. Its always fun to see how certain players would work if intermixed with other players from other seasons in a game of strategy, but when it comes to a race or series of tasks, I don't know that I need to see the same people do it more than once. What do you think?

I totally agree. Who needs to see the same people argue again, or go about a challenge with the same approach. The great thing about TAR, is seeing new people attack the task and each other. Everything old isn't always new again.

I wish an All Star Version of a show meant REAL stars. How would real actors or musicians survive on a desert island with Jeff calling out their behavior.
Or even travelling the world would be interesting (except for the paparazzi).

Sorry, I disagree. Phil poo pooed the idea of an all stars Race because the former contestants have been affected by being on the show already but I think that would make it interesting. These are people who may behave differently knowing how they were perceived the first time around. Will Colin still be a complete ass? Will Mirna still make Charla do almost all the roadblocks? It also depends on what teams come back. Certain teams would be more fun or interesting to see again. Also some teams were eliminated through stupidty and some through bad luck. It would be interesting to see if a stupid team has gotten any smarter or if a team with previous bad luck can do better. Just my opinion for what it's worth.

Couldn't Bruckheimer and co. let us recooperate from the disaster that was the Family Edition before releasing the disaster that will be the All Stars Edition.
I would have liked two or three seasons of gimmick free TAR. Let the show breathe before sending it to it's death.

Also, I think some of these reality shows should have a "winner gets to return next season to defend, like day to day on Jeopardy. Of course, look how that worked on Survivor All Stars, whiney bitches voted off most of the previous winners right off. Poor sap Ethan!

I'm not really looking forward to an All-Star TAR. My first choice would have been the gimmick-free season again... but actually second (if they had to do something) would be to have teams from OTHER reality shows go on. Like Will & Janelle!

I'm not too excited about The Amazing Race: All Stars but I'll definitely be watching because I love Phil & TAR. I wonder if they will throw another task with a broken ox for Christie.

Sigh.
I am very disappointed by this news. I thought TAR was above all these gimmicky stunts, but I guess I was wrong.
So, does this mean we have to endure Rob and Amber YET AGAIN? (I never did like that couple and I doubt I ever will, no matter how much CBS shoves them down our throats.)
I'm with the posters who like to see new faces each season. I don't really care to revisit some of these teams.
I don't like this, but I'll still watch (likely complaining the whole time!), because I do love me some TAR (and some Phil)!

My TAR is Broken!!!
I agree with some of the others, let TAR breathe with some 'normal' seasons, before torturing the fan base with another awful gimmick seasons.
Reliving Colin's screaming, and 'El doctoro', will not be all that entertaining a second time around. Although, I can think of a couple of teams that would provide some fresh snark (Kevin & Drew / Ken & Gerard come to mind).
It's as if the producers are making it a challenge for the viewers to watch as well:
Roadblock (You will have to find the time slot that the show will air, which will change from season to season…sometimes twice in a season).
Detour (you have a choice between two tasks, suffer through Family Edition or go cold turkey with no TAR until next season).

Maybe the twist can be that when the teams show up, Phil mixes them up: Mirna and Boston Rob; 1/2 of Jeric with one of the oldsters (I think Gretchen, but any of them); Mrs. Weaver and Jebus; you get the idea......

gee . . . I'm actually excited for an Allstar, but only if they bring back Al + Jon, the clowns from AR4, and I'd love to see Kevin and Drew again too.
Hopefully colin + christy are the bitches (and the only bitches) I'll really be disappointed if they bring back Jonathan and Victoria . . . eww!
I wish they would pick all the back pack teams and see how they do on a more even field, but alas, my 2 aforementioned faves we're the 3rd and 4th, I think.

I'm ambivalent about TAR All Stars. On one hand, I still have nightmares about the train wreck that was Family Edition, but on the other hand, it would be interesting to see how some teams do the second time around. At the very least, maybe we'll get to see some interesting teams that were eliminated quickly in the race-i.e. the rodeo clowns, etc. I would love to see Kris and Jon (Season 6) return. And hopefully Alison from BB won't return.
I doubt that Jonathan and Victoria would be on All Stars if it starts filming next month. That would mean that Victoria would be joining the race less than (or right at) six weeks after giving birth. Of course, I'm sure Jonathan wouldn't care-he would just yell at her to suck it up and get on with the race. Hopefully her doctor will be the voice of reason and forbid her to do it.

I think TAR All-Stars has the potential to work, as long as they don't screw with the format of the race.

No, please don't screw it up. PLEASE. It's still a hit. Bringing back people we couldn't stand the first time around will only alienate us.

I like the idea of All-Stars - there were some teams that I really liked and wouldn't mind seeing again (Team Cha-Cha-Cha, Gretchen and Meredith, Mirna and Smirna). I will be hugely disappointed, however, if they only bring back the irritating, dysfunctional, angry couples. Colin and Christie are bad enough. There's enough drama in the race itself without needing to bring in additional drama from abusive people.

Alot of what happens on the race is pure luck, some seem to fall into it easily and others not. Personally, if they have to do this show, I'd like to see those racers that got to top 6, 5 or 4th place and nothing over that. Those were the ones that did really well but didn't get to taste the last leg. I know for one and a few others I've mentioned this to they would rather see NEW people everytime. ROE
