Pirates won't be confined to the movie screen next summer. CBS will cash in on the launch of the third Pirates of The Caribbean movie with a new unscripted series from Survivor captain Mark Burnett.

Casting for the series will begin soon. So never mind the eyepatch. Find that seasickness patch.

They're keeping details locked away for now, though we do know the action will take place "at land and at sea." So think ships and islands. The series will most likely contain traditional reality elements like competitions and eliminations, so there may be a swordfight or two and someone is very likely to walk the plank. Even so, one person familiar with those details insists the show will not simply be Survivor at Sea.

Of course, Survivor had a pirate theme for its seventh, Pearl Islands, season. Pirates were again promised for the current Survivor: Cook Islands, but the historic Mutiny on The Bounty connections were scuttled for the brief racial experiment. The only remaining piratey element beyond the general cutthroat scheming is that shipwreck prop on Exile Island. With the latest pitch, Burnett winds up getting a two-fer.

It's probably only a coincidence, but Disney has announced that the third installment of its Johnny Depp blockbuster franchise, Pirates of The Caribbean: At World's End opens worldwide May 25th. That, combined with plans to open a new Pirates island at Disneyland, promises an Aaargggh-rated summer.
