Never Put a Fat Guy in Charge of The Food -
by EdHIll
While Hurley is setting up the dynamite in the pantry, Rose comes in and asks him what he’s doing. “I’m not going to let it happen again, he says. Let what happen again? And then we are brought back to the end of the flashback sequence with Hurley and Johnny tooling around in their van. As they pull into a gas station they see a big news crew outside. Johnny thinks someone might have gotten shot and goes to investigate. But Hurley knows the truth. This is where he bought the lottery ticket. Within seconds the Middle Eastern cashier (who we saw earlier in the chicken suit) spots Hurley and says, "That's the guy." And Hurley is surrounded by camera crews as he sits there looking shell shocked.
I’ve now come to the conclusion that Hurley is almost as big an idiot as Michael. “I don’t want anything bad to happen is his excuse for destroying the food meant to help 40 starving people. When he gets rescued I’ll bet 50 bucks Bush appoints him to head FEMA. When Rose asks what he means by “bad things Hurley says that people will hate him. “People will be asking “What about us why didn't I get this and that and why does Hugo get everything.' WAAAHHHH! I won 153 million and some people wanted money from me. WAAAHHHH! God forbid anyone should be forced to go through that kind of hell. I’d cry myself to sleep at night on a diamond encrusted bed covered in hundred dollar bills and in the arms of five top of the line Vegas strippers. But the strippers won’t have wild hot group sex with me because they love me, it will just be because they want my money. Oh, the agony!
Hurley goes to talk to Jack that evening he tells him that the inventory is done. He says that there is only enough food in there to last a single person for three months, or himself for a week and a half. So he tells him he wants to distribute the food his way. He seems to be looking for an argument but gets none from Jack. Then we see a happy Hurley passing out all sorts of food to everyone. Chips here, candy bars there. Too bad we don’t get to see everyone an hour from now when they engage in the classic Survivor-esque projectile vomiting that happens after Probst gives them their first real meal. I love that. We then see Shannon wasting her food on the already slightly overweight dog, and Charlie, who’s now got his peanut butter which he hopes will act as a makeshift Spanish fly with Claire. Then we pan over to Sun, who is quietly burying the bottle in the sand. If it was me I would have chosen a better place to hide that than under a foot of sand on the beach where they all live, but we get the point.
Over in the bunker Michael and Jin are talking to the old guy in his fifties. He asks if a woman named Rose is still alive. Why, it’s Rose’s Bernard! He’s alive! Yah! And he’s white!
As the episode closes we see Rose sitting by the fire eating her food and putting away a candy bar for when her Bernard comes back to her. Awwww.

I totally want to see a show starring Jin and the guy in the - what was it, baby duck? - suit.
Posted by: Den_of_Earth | October 13, 2005 3:47 PM(#1 of 178)
Brilliant idea! they could be swinging bachelors that live with a bunch of girls at a modeling agency and moonlight as detectives at night.
We can call it Jin's Angels.
Posted by: EdHill | October 13, 2005 3:58 PM(#2 of 178)
I noticed the guy announcing the lottery tickets on tv said nobody had won in 16 weeks - there's that number again.
Also I'm sure I'm about a year behind on this one but has anybody ever noted that 42 is not only a lost number but the "answer to the ultimate question in life" in The Hitchhicker's Guid to the Universe?
In case anybody cares here are the lyrics to the song Hurley was listening to in his dream:
All I need from you is a good conversation
Because it gives me sweet inspiration
And to tell you I never felt this way before
I know there is some way today
Love your brothers, my friends, love your sister
Don't know if that is a clue but everything means something on this show right?
As always loved the recap - keep em coming!
Posted by: Milkshake | October 13, 2005 4:03 PM(#3 of 178)
no, everything does NOT mean something on this show. jj abrams said in a nytimes interview that so many people assume everything means something and really sometimes they just put crap in because they needed something.
for all we know that branded shark could be totally pointless.
Posted by: jash | October 13, 2005 4:04 PM(#4 of 178)
Great recap!
There was a little moment last night that I loved - when Hurley is complaining to Locke about how everyone will hate him for not giving peanut butter to "Claire's...island...baby...?" and Locke totally starts laughing. It was so funny I kept rewinding it; I think maybe it was an unscripted moment they decided to keep.

Great Recap! Some comments:
1) The logos in the new bunker are not the same. Ditto on the shark. (yes I am a big nerd...) The new logo looks like a compass. Magnetism, compass. hmmm. See link below:

JoeyJoJo Out!

I was a bit disappointed with last nights episode...i think the previews for next week were better than the entire episode itself. Hurley sucked in this episode as did his back story we had seen before with DJ Qualls and that girl from Life As We Know It! Seeing Jin speak english in the promo's was cool, but a letdown on the show. Don't get me wrong, i balled my eyes out at the end and was wondering why i liked Rose so much when she had only been on like 1 episode before and now she's a star.
Either way, great re-cap, thanks for putting the internet info upfront.
Posted by: corona kid | October 13, 2005 4:19 PM(#7 of 178)
These recaps are hilarious. I have read other blog and recaps and compared this they are nothing. I did hear though that in the first season, Roses husband was black. They hsowed him walking back to the bathroom in on pf the flashbacks...whats up wioth that?
Posted by: CB | October 13, 2005 4:23 PM(#8 of 178)
At the Mr. Cluck's website..anyone else notice the freaky message?
THIS SHOW IS SO STRANGE AND WONDERFUL!
Posted by: Rachel | October 13, 2005 4:40 PM(#9 of 178)
If you go to IMDB you will see that on next week's episode M.C. Gainey is listed as "Kelvin" which is the name of the man Desmond said was in the hatch with him but died. In last season's finale, M.C. Gainey is listed as "Bearded Man"... he is the guy on the boat who kidnapped Walt.

Spoiler :(

Dude! hilarious recap. I totally enjoyed that episode. I love that everyone thought Rose's husband was the beefy black guy but was instead the geeky white guy. perfect. I'm all set with Jack/ Kate. googly eyes over BBQ is just stupid

Great recap!
Did anyone else notice, Hurley's boss at Cluck You was also Locke's boss at the box company too??? Good old Randy...
I did like the line, "Driveshaft? More like Suckshaft!"
Posted by: dumbanddumber | October 13, 2005 6:22 PM(#14 of 178)
So what's up with the "Apollo" candy bars and the mention in the recap above of the secured version of the Hanso Foundation website that says something about a spaceship?
Posted by: jack's psychologist | October 13, 2005 7:06 PM(#15 of 178)
Very good point psychologist. I just did a whois search of that spaceship site and it seems like it has fake info - not the abc info like on the hanso site.
Posted by: Milkshake | October 13, 2005 7:08 PM(#16 of 178)
That was an interesting observation about Hurley's boss. You know, later Hurley buys the box company so maybe he hired that guy for some reason.
Was Hurley so mean to Charlie and so nice to Rose because Charlie wanted something and Rose didn't? He treated his good friend like crap and then brought a random woman to the hatch.
Please explain one simple thing to me: Why is Hurley also called Hugo? I though Hurley must be his last name but his boss was calling him Reyez (sp?).
Posted by: suebee | October 13, 2005 7:21 PM(#17 of 178)
Are we sure they showed Rose's husband as being black last season?
Posted by: Den_of_Earth | October 13, 2005 7:40 PM(#18 of 178)
I nearly cried my eyes out when Rose's husband idenified himself. I love the action and adventure, but man, this show has heart.
Posted by: Leah3t | October 13, 2005 8:09 PM(#19 of 178)
Another consideration for the term "Apollo" on the candy bars is the Greek mythology of the god Apollo. Check out this website about him: http://www.pantheon.org/articles/a/apollo.html
It references swans, a difficult to reach floating island, prophecy, colonization, a plague, etc.... Also of interest is that he has a TWIN brother.
Here is an excerpt from the site: "When the goddesss Hera, the wife of Zeus (it was he who had coupled with Leto) found out about Leto's pregnancy, she was outraged with jealousy. Seeking revenge Hera forced Leto to roam the earth in search of a place to give birth. Since Hera had forbidden Leto to stay anywhere on earth, either on terra-ferma or an island at sea, the only place to seek shelter was Delos, being in the center of the Aegean, and also difficult to reach, as there were strong under-currents, because it was said to be a floating island. Because it was a floating island, it was not considered either of Hera's prohibitions, and so Leto was able to give birth to the divine twins Apollo and Artemis (before Leto gave birth to Apollo, the island was encircled by a flock of swans, this is why the swan was sacred to him)."
Posted by: jack's psychologist | October 13, 2005 8:12 PM(#20 of 178)
According to the IP search on the Hanso website its clearly an ABC site. I'm not sure what the deal is with th HTTPS site, maybe someone else could have registered it. I will say the whole bigspaceship1 site seemed very fanlike and amatuer.
Posted by: EdHill | October 13, 2005 8:14 PM(#21 of 178)
Joanna, please don't be rude. And it's spelled "Mancunian."
Posted by: Kat | October 13, 2005 8:34 PM(#22 of 178)
Psychologist, Apollo had a twin SISTER - Artermis is a woman. sorry but it really bothered me lol - anyways, awesome recap, i love it when lost gives me a nice warm happy feeling at the end... :)

the morse code title on bigspaceship1.com translates to
ALL THE RABBITS DOWN THE HUTCH
[yes, hutch, not hatch]
Posted by: gwen | October 13, 2005 8:53 PM(#25 of 178)
Why hasn't anyone commented on the part where there were 42 survivors from the front section of the plane, and now 23 from the tail - will there be another hatch somewhere on the island with 16 people? 15? 8? 4?
Was this mentioned and I missed it?
Posted by: jrsc | October 13, 2005 10:15 PM(#26 of 178)
Now there's a www.bigspaceship1.org that is different from the bigspaceship1.com one
The Flash is back to the two polar bears and the code reads "Chocolate Asclepius". If you pause (uncheck play) the animation when the two bears intersect and the red dot appears you'll see the text 2FENO6 in the red dot. Don't have any idea what it means
Posted by: gt | October 13, 2005 10:26 PM(#27 of 178)
I don't know about anyone else, but I watched it late at night and that guy in the chicken suit freaked me out.
Someone asked about Hurley's name earlier...all I remember is him saying that his name was Hugo, but his friends called him Hurley.
Seems more likely to me that the pushing of the button is keeping something going rather than preventing something from happening. Maybe Walt said not to push the button because it is enabling bad things to happen. And by the way, where is that kooky kid?
Posted by: ATCmurph | October 14, 2005 12:41 AM(#28 of 178)
Great recap, but Charlie wasn't the singer of Driveshaft...he was the bass player...!
Posted by: Jenny10girl | October 14, 2005 4:43 AM(#29 of 178)
I looked up "Asclepius" and he is also in Greek mythology. According to what I found online, he is the son of Apollo and the Greek god of healing as well as a famous physician. Supposedly he could bring the dead back to life. Weird.
Posted by: jack's psychologist | October 14, 2005 5:36 AM(#30 of 178)
so what do we think happened to the other people from the tail section? did they get the sickness rousseau talked about? (i'm beginning to wonder if the sickness isn't from radiation from an underground reactor or something of the like, given jack and sayid's discoveries.) did the tail section go 'lord of the flies' and kill some of their own people? were they killed by 'the others'?
that's lost for you: three new questions for every answer.
Posted by: jack | October 14, 2005 5:45 AM(#31 of 178)
Maybe I missed something, but how did the guy who sold Hurley the ticket know he was the winner? I guess Hurley is the only guy in town that plays the lottery or something. And what was with DJ Qualls's reaction to Hurley winning? If my best friend just won 153 million I think my reaction would be something other than pissed off. Oh, and I'm surprised you didn't mention that "The six-foot-tall black guy covered in muscles" is Adibisi from Oz. Except if it was Adibisi he would have just sodomized and killed everyone is sight while somehow keeping his little knit hat on his melon!
Posted by: Eddog | October 14, 2005 6:29 AM(#32 of 178)
Eddog - I mentioned it was Atebisi from Oz the first glimps we had of him!
He's back, and scarier than evah!
Great recap and love this show!
But I do hope that the casual Lost viewer doesn't need to know all the details from these "clue" websites to get answers.
Posted by: shelley | October 14, 2005 7:03 AM(#33 of 178)
JoeyJoJo, remember in last weeks episode, during the film. The scientist said they were in bunker 3, also called swan. There are six bunkers out there, so the symbol for the other lost passengers is probably another bunker that was deserted for some reason. I had assumed that all 6 bunkers were spread out through out the world, but maybe they could be spread out through out the island. On a personal note, I couldn't stand Charlie in this last episode. He was being such a punk to Hugo. Wish Hugo would speak up and tell him to back off. Okay, I'm done venting. :) Also I think the guy in the Chicken suit was Indian not Arab. Have you guys seen this website
http://www.oceanic-air.com
It's supposed to be the website for the airline. It says they are out of business because of the loss of flight 815. Click on the green Find button and it will take you to a seating chart of the plane. Really cool site.
Posted by: palmtree | October 14, 2005 7:10 AM(#34 of 178)
jrsc #26 - I thought the same thing regarding the number of survivors and "the numbers".
Posted by: TV-OD | October 14, 2005 7:11 AM(#35 of 178)
I think "Hurley" is a nickname because he gets sick / vomits / hurls easiy. Didn't he mention something last season when Jack was operating on the Marshall and Hurley passed out? In any event, I'm sure we'll eventually get a flashback showing the reason for the nickname as well as how Locke became paralyzed.

Ummmm Dude, Charlie has a British accent not a Scottish one.

how about the semi-hidden message on oceanic-air website?
"I survived a horrific plane crash and am stranded on an island somewhere Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am never found, please forward word of my fate to my parents."
Posted by: enbibi | October 14, 2005 8:05 AM(#38 of 178)
and even more hidden is a picture of a postcard to Walt from his dad and hand drawn picture of a boat. You have to highlight and copy paste the oceanic-air president's statement to word to see this picture and message
"If anyone should find this message, please get word I'm alive and stranded on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Please send help soon. Things are bad. And they're getting worse...
Sally
"

Thanks for the link to the Oceanic Air site...if you look carefully under the "All Flights Cancelled" message, there's a secret message. Also, on the page with the seating chart, click on the flashing "F", then the green "Pre-board Check-in". Interesting stuff from there....

there were 16 original survivors from Rousseaus group...
The hidden message on that site...on ABC.com they have a journal/diray that you can read. I believe Sally is who writes that as well

Posted by: CB | October 14, 2005 8:40 AM(#50 of 178)
so...we have 42 survivors from the front of the plane, 23 survivors from the back of the plane, 16 survivors from Rousseau's group..hmmmmm...what about 15, 8, 4?
Posted by: shelley | October 14, 2005 8:40 AM(#51 of 178)
How many have we lost from the orginal group? I hear one more person is going to die... so could there be 4 dead? Are there 8 left in the tail end? which would mean 15 of them are dead/gone?
Posted by: CB | October 14, 2005 8:42 AM(#52 of 178)
I always thought that the Apollo bar was just a cheeky nod to the Mars bar. That, and Apollo is the same name used in both Roman and Greek mythology, which is very rare (http://www.crystalinks.com/romegods.html).
Also, I'm seeing different morse code message on the bigspaceship1.com site: 'Sometimes a polar bear is just a polar pear' - puns for pear/pair and polar can definitely mean polar opposites (more magnet, compass references). I guess the morse code message will keep changing periodically.
And lastly, that mrclucks.com keeps changing back and forth between the subliminal jpg and the word scramble.
ha!
P.S. My take on 2FENO6 - '2 if he knows 6' - to which I can only reply: 'Who is number 1?' :)
Posted by: ha | October 14, 2005 8:43 AM(#53 of 178)

Ethan Rom is an anagram, when you rearrange the letters to spell something else (and that something is a little creepy, by the way) you'll get another sumpin' sumpin'.

Yeah I know I asked that question before I went and looked. I already knew what to scramble it to... thanks for the heads up..Ill do my research before i run my mouth next time. :o)
Posted by: CB | October 14, 2005 8:45 AM(#55 of 178)
I'm not sure if anyone has posted this, but the new logo in the second bunker is an arrow inside the normal Dharma logo. There is a fable involving Prince Siddhartha and a swan whose wing was pierced by an arrow (http://www.buddhanet.net/e-learning/buddhism/lifebuddha/5lbud.htm).
Pretty weird stuff. Any ideas on the relevance?
Posted by: Rico | October 14, 2005 8:50 AM(#56 of 178)
Where does Ethan fit into this whole thing anyway?
Could Ethan have been "the one" Desmond was referring to? Or was he simply just one of the "others"?
And why do I have this terrible feeling that the real answers will be totally anti-climactic after all these clues and webistes dedicated to finding out info?
Posted by: shelley | October 14, 2005 8:57 AM(#57 of 178)
Keep in ind that ABC may also be planting information that isnt "fact". Just to lead us in a completely wrong direction. Some I am sure are true, but not all. I think Ethan was just a radioactive Psycho and one of the "others". He wanted Claire for the baby, the reason is unknown at this point. Maybe the baby is special like Walt.
Posted by: CB | October 14, 2005 9:06 AM(#58 of 178)
I was wondering where Ethan fits in too.
Hurley did own a Canadian shoe factory that ultimately burned down. Since Ethan's from Toronto, maybe he had some part in that factory? I wouldn't be too surprised, has Hurley owned a box company that Locke was a manager for.
Posted by: Victoria | October 14, 2005 9:06 AM(#59 of 178)
Ana Lucia is getting on my nerves...she is such a raving biotch.. Hurley was perfectly nice to Charlie, he was told to keep it low. He trusted Rose because she really didnt care what was going on "its your business". Rose is a bitm ore mature than charlie, and will help more than hinder the situation..unlike charlie.
Posted by: CB | October 14, 2005 9:08 AM(#60 of 178)
ETHAN WASNT ON THE PLANE. How do we really know he was from Toronto?
Posted by: CB | October 14, 2005 9:09 AM(#61 of 178)
When Hurley was doing his census, he asked Ethan where he was from. His answer was Toronto.
That's all we really have to go on.
Posted by: Victoria | October 14, 2005 9:12 AM(#62 of 178)
That's true, Ethan said Toronto but when Hurley finished his census he noticed that Ethan's name was not on the seating chart. Ethan was not on the plane. He must have gotten to the island another way like Desmond.

JRSC:
Your question:
Why hasn't anyone commented on the part where there were 42 survivors from the front section of the plane, and now 23 from the tail - will there be another hatch somewhere on the island with 16 people? 15? 8? 4?

Well 8 and 15 = Flight 815!
Now that damn 4?!
Posted by: SFLostfan! | October 14, 2005 9:48 AM(#64 of 178)
another thing about those numbers. On the oceanic website I sent out earlier, it looks like those that survived were seated on rows based on the numbers. 8th row = Shannon and Boone.
23rd row= Kate and the Marshall.
42nd row = Ana. I forget the other numbers. All I know is all that playing around on that site gave me a headache, but it was well worth it!
Posted by: palmtree | October 14, 2005 9:50 AM(#65 of 178)
I think we are getting a bit crazy with the numbers because werent there more than 42 original survivors from the front of the plane? Maybe there is no correlation at this point with the numbers and the amount of people...
Posted by: CB | October 14, 2005 9:53 AM(#66 of 178)
FYI about Sawyer's pee-on-it remark: in the first season Hurley got stung in the foot by something in the ocean and said the only way to stop the poison was for Jin to pee on his foot. I guess word got around. It's not a Sawyer fetish, it's a Sawyer taunt. Not that Jin understands anything he's saying.
Posted by: sparky | October 14, 2005 10:04 AM(#67 of 178)
Where was Locke from, because Locke worked in the box company that Hurley owned, remember? Hurley's boss at the Chicken Shack is also Locke's boss at the box company. If Ethan worked at the box shop (which I highly doubt), then Locke is from Toronto. Is this an SAT question?
Posted by: arnold_drummond | October 14, 2005 10:04 AM(#68 of 178)
I have Locke listed as living in Tustin CA. He works for a box company out there. He was also raised in a foster home but I'm not sure in what part of the country.

Nah, just kidding...
I love being a downer!
Seriously, I hope they are telling the truth when they say they have it all figured out and they're not just jerking the audience around.

Isn't the guy in the chicken suit the convenience store worker who tells the reporters that Hurley won?
He probably knew it was Hurley who'd won because Hurley probably played the same numbers every week.
Posted by: Chandra | October 14, 2005 10:34 AM(#81 of 178)
No I thought he only u sed the numbers once...I dont think he ever really said how many times he used them...I think the chicken suit guy was just a reference to the fact that things changed once he won, an his dream was telling him that things may change with all pf the food and that situation...etc

I just want to know what kind of special skill Sayid learned as a Republican Guard that allows him to estimate how thick concrete is? No offense, but the last time I started at a slab of concrete I couldn’t tell if it was 8 inches, 8 feet, or 8 miles thick!
Posted by: BH | October 14, 2005 11:19 AM(#86 of 178)
Kudos to the comment about him estimating the concrete being 8 or 10 feet thick. And when did he go to Chernobyl to witness first hand the concrete used to bury the reactor? Lame.

Posted by: callygirl | October 14, 2005 11:43 AM(#89 of 178)
There were originally 47 survivors from the front part of Oceanic 815. Then Hurley discovered that Ethan wasn't on the plane which brought us to 46 survivors. Then the marshall, Boone and Steve/Scott died/were killed. So now there are 43 survivors. We will get to 42 when someone else buys the farm.
Posted by: ithotn | October 14, 2005 11:59 AM(#90 of 178)
Did someone mention this already? Sawyer asking Jin to pee on his wound is a reference to last season when Hurley asked Jin to pee on his foot after he stepped on a sea urchin or something. Hurley was trying to bond with Jin b/c he thought Jin was pissed that Hurley didn't eat the fish he offered him on, like, episode 2.
Posted by: ithotn | October 14, 2005 12:04 PM(#91 of 178)
so the 4 in the numbers is a reference to how many of the original 46 will be killed off maybe. Cause I heard a female dies soon..

I forgot about him - so we're already at 42...
Posted by: ithotn | October 14, 2005 12:15 PM(#95 of 178)
So I am really starting to think that those numbers really have nothing to do with how many survivors there are. BEcause when this female dies we will have 5 dead and we'll be at 41...

I mean the original number for the front of the plain was 47 (not a number) 23 original from the back (most of them gone now) and then 16 from Rouseaus (sp?) group (all but 1 gone)
Posted by: CB | October 14, 2005 12:19 PM(#97 of 178)
oops I mean 46 original (no ethan)DO you think that the big black guy from the tail really is either one of the drug dealers from the heroine plane? Or maybe he is an "other" like Ethan was.
Posted by: CB | October 14, 2005 12:21 PM(#98 of 178)
I believe y'all forgot about the woman who drowned in the first season...and you've subtracted, but you forgot to add "Claire's...island...baby". :)
ha!
P.S. Victoria (#76) - On the seating chart, seats 4A, 8A, 15A, 16A, 23A, and 42B activate other seats (along with the aforementioned blinking 42F). Each of those activated seats does something, including Harold Wollstein's - 23C (from http://www.driveshaftband.com/flight815_3.htm). And as DD (#77) mentioned, if you copy all of the home page of www.oceanic-air.com and paste it into Word, you can see one of three (random) images: Claire's ticket, a postcard from Michael to Walt, or a couple more of Michael's drawings - along with two secret messages, one from a Sally and one (according to the source) from Robert.
Posted by: ha! | October 14, 2005 12:30 PM(#99 of 178)
But the baby was born at the end of last year - so you have to add one to the number in the camp. Everybody always seems to forget that :)
Posted by: Milkshake | October 14, 2005 12:31 PM(#100 of 178)
even with adding the baby and subtracting the girl who drowned, we are already at 42...this means we will be at 41 after the next woman dies, which I hear is soon...

Earlier today, www.bigspaceship1.com had a flash of two polar bears, and the morse code title was 'Sometimes a polar bear is just a polar pear.' (see post #53) Now, the page has changed to a picture of a satellite and the morse code title is 'Se [sic] positive think negative' Also, there is a song playing - sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks singing a song called 'May you wish upon a satellite' (or star tonight).
CB, the driveshaft website is in real time versus 'Lost' time: Charlie's plane 'disappeared' a year ago.
And as per the Lost mythology -Everybody is Somebody - according to http://www.driveshaftband.com/flight815_3.htm , Harold Wollstein was the next big inventor, who justed happened to be on Flight 815.

track flight: I survived a horrific plane crash and am stranded on an island somewhere
Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am
never found, please forward word of my fate to my parents.
track results: If you are reading this note PLEASE get word to my wife that her husband survived the crash of Oceanic Flight #815 along with 47 others. Darling, I miss you so much and dream of the day I can see your face again. The very thought of that day is all that keeps me going here. Please don’t forget me!
seating chart: I would like to inform my financial institutions that I will be late making my September mortgage payment as I am STRANDED ON A FRIGGIN' ISLAND IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!
Please have the Government send a search team immediately. OR don't. Shouldn't all the taxes I pay cover an expense like that?

Posted by: Milkshake | October 15, 2005 8:21 PM(#142 of 178)
Milkshake,
There is a rule. Usually TVGasm puts a big NO SPOILERS message in the "post a comment" area. I don't see it now. We don't appreciate spoilers and they relegated to the message boards (and you have to identify it as a spoiler). I haven't really seen any Lost spoilers yet.
Posted by: suebee | October 15, 2005 8:31 PM(#143 of 178)
Thanks for the info suebee - I'm glad to know this is at least supposed to be a spoiler free zone.
If you read through all of the posts on this page there are at least two nuggets of info that I wouldn't have known about until future episodes.
They are post numbers 10 and 92 (among others). I believe I even posted the word "spoiler" after the first one.
I hope everybody can stick to the rules cause I very much enjoy reading the comments otherwise.
Posted by: Milkshake | October 15, 2005 9:00 PM(#144 of 178)
Thanks Milkshake! Couldn't agree more.
At risk of being a loser, I personally would prefer that people think in their heads instead of through their fingers on this board. No offense intended and please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't know how much folks care about someone's thought process described every 2 minutes while they figure out easter eggs on another website.
That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the recap and the show. Didn't everyone get the warm fuzzies when Hurley distributed the food? We've been inundated with information this season...this episode was a like vacation from overthinking but still satisfied the jones for information.
Posted by: Joe | October 15, 2005 9:20 PM(#145 of 178)
Okay, I don't have old episodes of LOST, but I'm under the impression that Bernard has appeared before. Could someone check to see if he is the same guy who confronted Jin in the lavatory, to let him know that he was being watched on his way to L.A.? I may be way off base on this one....
Also, I suspect that Kate and Ana LucÃa are in cahoots. I think Ana LucÃa has shown that she's awfully good with a gun. She was probably aboard that flight as part of a plan to help spring Kate from custody.
And let's not forget that Kate's backstory has still not been resolved. Yes, she was wanted for getting her high school sweetheart killed and then for staging a deadly bank robbery to steal the little airplane. But before either of these two killings happened, Kate had gone to the hospital to see her dying mother, and it's clear that she was already a wanted person. As she walked down a corridor, she hid her face from a cop posted outside a hospital room, and even her mother was freaked out upon seeing her. Plus, didn't she make or get a phone call on her cell while she was there? Again, I don't have the DVD set (yet), but I can't help but suspect that Ana LucÃa and Kate belong in the same posse.
And for those of you who are negative on Kate, I say, "cut her some slack." In the first place, the writing for her character is downright awful. Whereas she was interesting in the pilot and first few episodes of the first season of the series, she's now been reduced to being the pretty girl and has been given some of the worst dialogue to deliver out there. I'm rooting for Evangeline Lilly, 'cuz I think she has potential....

Today the morse code spells out "in girum imus nocte et keonsumur igni." Which is similiar to the latin phrase "IN GIRUM IMUS NOCTE ET CONSUMIMUR IGNI." This phrase is a palindrome, and in english it means "We go in circles at night and are consumed by fire."
I guess the Romans never learned to stop drop and roll.

In response to Diana's queries about Kate's backstory, I have a theory, not a spoiler, just my own theory. I think Kate was responsible for her father's death, that's why her mom freaked out when she saw her. I think her father may have been abusive. This all comes from the one episode where we see her childhood sweetheart. If you have the DVD watch that episode and pay special attention to the tape they made when they were little.

Re: Victoria's theory on Kate's background...that's right, the tape she and her childhood "boyfriend" made, did reveal that she was abused and has a traumatic past....Anyway, all we can do is speculate, (i.e., my own theory about Ana LucÃa), which is the greatest fun that you can get out of this series...that, and this blog.
Hey, by the way, what is the difference between "spoilers" and just sharing theories on this blog? I'm kind of new to this whole blog thing, and I don't want to overstep my boundary and cross some cyberline out there....

A spoiler would be if you had some kind of insider information, such as a certain character would be off the show. I personally think spoilers are more relevant to reality shows where someone might know ahead of time who wins. I would say that people here appreciate and enjoy speculation.

Someone plotted the numbers into a google GPS map. The location is off the northeast coast of Australia, on-route from Sydney to Los Angeles. (goto google maps and type in 4.815 162.342)
The place it plotted was near the Marshall Islands and Micronesian Island Federation. These places are protected by the U.S. due to atrocities committed by the U.S. after World War II. After the surrender of Japan in WWII, the U.S. wanted and needed to do more research on nuclear weapons. Several bunkers were built underground in these federation islands while nuclear/atomic bombs were tested above ground. Many indigenous people died right away. Others have been riddled with radiation poisoning even to this day!
Maybe this is a connection?

I think the marshall who took custody of Kate IS her father...
BTW, I see no spoiler in either #10 or #92--cast lists and news releases are like previews...
Posted by: Bobbie | October 17, 2005 9:34 AM(#159 of 178)
Bobbie - post 92 didn't mention a news release. I don't read any Lost news releases so I have no idea if that's where the info came from.
I guess what is and is not a spoiler can be argued about. As far as I'm concerned - if you mention something from a future episode it is a spoiler. I'd personally rather wait until I watch the episode to learn what is posted in number 10. But that's just me - this isn't my blog or anything so it's just an opinion.

I agree with Milkshake regarding spoilers ... anything about a future episode that goes beyond what's seen in the "Next on Lost..." previews is a spoiler, in my opinion; whether it's from a specific spoiler site, from cracking a webpage, or from imdb.com doesn't matter. That's different from speculation about what might be coming, which is what I figure this blog is for, at least partly.
Just my opinion!

Would it be too much to ask for everyone to go back and re-watch season 1 again? Reading all of these comments are quite frustrating. There are 42 original survivors still alive. They are not counting the new baby or anybody else on the island. They came up with 48 survivors after the initial turmoil calmed down. 6 people died on the island during the first season.
I am introducing this show to my younger brother and I am rewatching all of the episodes with him. I think this is the third time through season 1 for me. You pick up quite a bit with repeat viewings. Plenty of stuff I take as a given I see so many have missed like Rose being in only one episode? No, she was around last season. People not counting Artz as a death. Come on . . .
And when did this site turn into such a spoiler-driven website? I can go elsewhere if I want to read all of that. I, too, have read that someone dies but I don't need to read about it here at my laugh-out-loud, trusty TVgasm because I don't think that was the initial objective of this blog.
As for the Oceanic website, they constantly put in a fake spoiler. Don't read into it too much. Before episode one, the "spoiler" was of an extra page in that episode's script that had Jack running through the forest and bumping into his twin.
I realize EdHill LOVES this show, but I fear that you might be encouraging spolier talk on this blog with your references to such.

Well now that I understand what spoilers are...I'm glad I haven't been spoiling!
I tend to not want to know much about a series or a film before I go see it. I love the surprise factor.
However, I do think it's the prerogative of each user to not click on the links that are provided within the blog, if they don't want to know more about what's coming up next.
On the other hand, I would hesitate to ban all links to spoiler sites, particularly for those people whose enjoyment of the series is in great part due to their sleuthing activities online. Simply put, bloggers should refrain within their blogs from divulging the actual information (provide only links and very general hints about what can be found there) and respect the choice of those who don't want to know more.

thanks, sg dub, for the only comment that made me laugh. you made it well worth skimming through all of that craziness. b-side, j-unit, edhill, someone, please redirect everyone to the forums like the good old days (unless they have a nice snarky comment to entertain us all)

For the record, all legitimate sites will have links on them that are Terms of Use links, they go to Disney TOS pages.
If there aren't Disney links, it isn't a legit site.
The cluck site, the bigspaceship site, and the driveshaft sites are all just fan sites with unreliable info. The dharma initiative/hanso site, oceanic airlines site and oceanic flight 815 site are all on the up and up.

Palm Tree (#34) - thanks for the Oceanic website. The one bit of irony I found was the banner pic they have loaded is of the island with the raft in the distance with the column of black smoke to the right. Paired with the caption "Taking you places you've never imagined." God, I love those twisted Disney bastards.

Bobbie (#159) I am pretty sure the marshal and Kate were lovers at some point. That seemed pretty obvious to me, but I could be wrong.

FYI - it would appear as though the bigspaceship1 site is NOT an official Lost website. If you go here and read the first paragraph/visit the links you can piece together from it that these are pranksters (who got their start in pirate radio) and they are having fun with Lost fans.
Also the secure version of thehansofoundation.org is now redirecting the site to the original non-secure portion that is ABC owned. It would appear that word has reached the powers that be.

Thank you mountain girl! I thought I was going a little bizerk when I saw the raft and the smoke. I asked a friend to check it out and make sure I wasn't just seeing things. :) Can't wait till tomorrow night.

Does anyone have any ideas about what the significance may be for Ethan Rom being an anagram for "other man" actually is?

Ethan Rom = The Roman
Anybody else think the Hanso foundation might be run by Locke's kidney stealing father? Sure looks like him if you pause your TiVo.
Also, I have this feeling that Locke's girlfriend from Married with Children is employed by his kidney stealing father. I have no evidence for this just a feeling.

Did anyone notice the blonde chick with the great cleavage was the chick from Titus?
Great recap! Btw, when you mentioned the Enterprise vs. a Star Destoyer, my 7th grade Star Wars addiction kicked into high gear. And I'm sorry, a Star Destroyer has some 100 turbo lasers, torpedo launchers, and 100's of Tie Fighters and Bombers that would make the Enterprise explode like a can of chili. The fascist Empire would make mince meat of the Commie Federation any day of the week. ;)

The code on http://www.bigspaceship1.com/ now says in girum imus nocte et consumimur igni which a Google search says is a riddle and the search also displays many different interpretations.
