Claire finds the baby bootie she made, which sends her into a flashback with Alex trying to make her leave the hatch. Alex shows Claire an operating room full of doctors (or “doctors,” who knows) and warns her that they’re going to take the baby and kill Claire. Claire, who is even higher than before, resists, but Alex knocks her out with chloroform. So Alex is a teenager? She looks about 28.

Claire is convinced that the vaccine is in the operating room. When she and Rousseau get there, Rousseau gets this really weird look on her face that makes me wonder if she’s been there before. Claire is all in a panic when she can’t find the vaccines, but why? Aaron’s already been vaccinated. Stupid woman. Claire freaks out at Rousseau, but in her flashback realizes that Rousseau never tried to hurt her. When she attacked Claire, she was actually trying to keep her hidden from Ethan, who was out looking for her in the jungle, where she had apparently been dropped by Alex. So first of all, it’s kind of heartbreaking that Rousseau and Alex worked together without even knowing it. Second: Aw, Rousseau was trying to help. So misunderstood! But, on the other hand, why didn’t Rousseau just SAY SO? That’s still the biggest problem with this show. It’s not suspenseful when the characters just sit around mope, it’s just boring AND frustrating.

Rousseau peaces out now. She didn’t find Alex, so she’s done. Claire tells Rousseau that Alex helped her. It’s very sweet until Rousseau basically tells Claire that if Aaron is sick, they have to kill him before he infects everyone else. Whoa, harsh, dude. Also, the Bassoons of Angst play for about five hours before we cut to the next scene.

Back in Locke’s hatch, Jack and Eko arrive to talk to the prisoner. Side note: Locke’s using too much water to wash the dishes! I feel like they’re playing fast and loose with the resources here.

As Locke unlocks the door, he warns Eko not to tell Henry what the alarm in for. “What is it for?” asks Eko. Ha! Good call. Locke doesn’t have an answer, so Eko steps into Henry’s room. Henry looks terrified, and I can’t say I blame him. Seriously, they hired this actor for his ability to look two seconds away from shitting himself. Henry still insists he’s not an Other. So where is the FLIPPIN’ BALLOON? I know you guys have all asked this as well, and it’s a damn good question. Eko tells Henry all about the two Others he killed the first night on the island. Why? What is happening here? Why does Henry need to know? Eko just needing to get it off his chest isn’t going to cut it for me. Eko takes a huge knife out and uses it to cut those two nasty, long chin pubes off. Ew! This is so contrived I can’t even stand it. The pubes stood for kills? Weird.\

On the beach, Jack confirms that Aaron isn’t sick anymore. And they’ve hired a cuter baby. Claire gives him the booties she made, which seems weird. Wouldn’t she want to forget all that?

In the hatch, Locke gives Henry some food, and Henry seems a little chattier than usual. He eventually asks Locke whether he’s the Dostoevsky or the Hemingway – the genius, or the guy trapped under the genius? Yikes. Do not engage, Locke! DO NOT ENGAGE! Yeah, see, this Henry guy is just too on point. He’s an Other. Why else would he be stirring the pot? And if Locke really is as smart as we think he is, he knows right now that Henry is bad news. Unfortunately, judging by the way he throws all the dishes on the floor, Locke has just been played big time. Come on Locke, are you that easy?

Swell episode, I think! Some contrivances, but I guess that’s nothing new. As far as the preview for the new episode, I can say only this: DUH. THERE IS NO BIRTH CONTROL. So don’t act so surprised, Sun.

first of all- kat this was a LOT funnier than your other recaps. huge improvement- great job.

This was a fun ep (though I had to cover my eyes whenever the baby tummy got a shot). Mobile was very weird- it played 'catch a falling star' which is what Claire wanted Aaron's new parents to teach them.

I was so mad when we found the costume supplies. this kills my theory that there are two groups of others.

Yeah if Rousseau's daughter looks like a teenage girl then I look like a toddler.

Why is everyone using Henry Gale as the confessional priest? I was not a fan of the whole cutting off chin boogers. Less brooding, more action.

Well, sawyer can brood all he wants.

"the prisoner shouts something from his room but I’m hard of hearing and despite watching it 5 million times I have no idea what he said."

It's been awhile but I think he said that they should let him go. Actually a pretty funny line.

Leah -- don't give up hope yet, there could still be 2 groups of others on the island. I am still holding out hope . . . because the story would be more interesting and it would explain the lame-ass excuse for a beard in the locker. That was so NOT Zeke's full beard, and if so, fire yet ANOTHER prop person from Lost. It is a pathetic excuse for Zeke's beard.

I still think there is a leftover group of scientists and a group of ex-military. I haven't been fully convinced otherwise, anwyay. Why couldn't Zeke have a twin since there were twins on Zeke's boat when they abducted Walt?

The mobile in the bunker was most interesting -- the planes make me think of the plane Kate wanted from the briefcase. So . . . who was a previous Dharma subject, Kate or her friend Tom?

As for Kate being pathetic. Not so in my opinion. Kate is a most interesting character -- I advise everyone to watch these episodes with the idea that Kate is involved in EVERYTHING. She is in cahoots with Zeke for some reason -- probably not willingly, but she works with him (that is why I think she was surprised about the beard . . . IS this the man she has been talking to? -- Is he who she thinks he is?!?). Watching the show this way brings a whole different take on the show. Kate is so questionable and shady. All of her actions/reactions make perfect sense if she is involved.

Thanks for finally posting the recap -- our stupid network had programming bars for the first 10 minutes of the show so I wasn't certain what happened at the beginning of the show. Most irritating . . . thanks channel 9.

TWilliams: the mobile planes are NOT the same as Kate's plane. The ones on the mobile are clearly Oceanic planes, which made this scene one of the more creepy in an excellent episode, in my opinion.

Also, I think you are right about Kate's involvement. I became totally convinved that Kate is in "cahoots" with the others when she found the glue/beard in the lockers AND DIDN'T TELL ANYONE ABOUT HER FIND!! She knows something.

I think that the "him" that Zeke was so worried about is Henry Gale, who is the mastermind behind the little experiment on the island. Henry was tired of sending his henchmen (Ethan, Goodwin) to do his dirty work, especially because both guys screwed up on their assignments (what with going and getting killed and all).

Anyone else having a problem signing in today? My comment box keeps disappearing! HELP!

No, Bluebell, I am aware that the planes are not the same . . . I just find toy planes to be interesting. I still think there could be a connection.

Kate's plane is silver and the ones in the hatch are white. Kate's plane doesn't have a hole to be tied up with string. Kate's plane has no logo etc etc etc. I know all of that . . . but Kate's plane is several years old so I wouldn't expect the planes to be the same either. The plane made me question Kate's connection more, that is all. A toy plane is important to her for some reason and that is they "toy" we see Dharma provide.

As for it being Oceanic, where is Cindy? Does she push a cart around the bunkers serving cans of soda and bags of pretzels?

As for Henry Gale -- I don't know if he is "him" or not. If so, he did a pretty good job of flubbing things up for himself since he can be killed very easily. His story is pretty lame and how could Locke not have put together the Oz connections?

And yes, Bluebell, I am having a terrible time connecting.

sorry for the email kat, but with one day left to the next show, well its about time thats all, thanks

anyway so we now now that the others are def. associated with oceanic. i always wondered.

if everyone doesn't know about the fake beard tomorrow night then I may have to agree that kate is hiding/ working with the others, maybe in exchange to get off the island?

Oops, sorry TWilliams. You didn't say that the planes were the same in your post. My bad.

THe plane is important to Kate because it was her best friends, the one she got killed remember??? Did you guys also notice that one of the planes was upside down on the mobile, like it had crashed???

Maybe Locke is playing HEnry? Like everyone has said, Locke is too smart to play into HEnry's game. THen again, maybe that is one of Locke's weaknesses. He certainly doesnt like to be told what he "cant" do.

Now to SUn maybe being pregnant. WHen she asks Sawyer for pregnancy test, we better hope he says "WHy the hell would I have a prenancy test?" Ive heard people answer this question by saying they have taken tests on a plane before to make sure they are not pregnant before they go out drinking but what are the odds someone on that particular plane has a pregnancy test???

Kat’s right, they others dress as castaways to hide the larger Dharma initiative commune of genetric research etc. that they are involved in.

At this point I am assuming that they own oceanic, crashed the plane on purpose in order to “recruit” people they researched and felt were worthy of joining them. This is why they had the list of people to take and people to leave behind.

This episode killed me because listening to Claire’s whiny Australian accent was driving me over the edge. Still, we learned a lot.

Is the mysterious leader Alvar Hanso?

I know whenever I need prenatal care I look towards the nearest "Other". JEESH! That episode struck me as odd. Claire doens't seem the least freaked out that none other than Ethan Rom is playing mr Pediatrician, despite his previous run-in.

#11, i think the point was how freaked out she(Claire) was about ethan, it being a flashback and all, and that she was drugged while with him, hence her screaming when she first started recovering her memories

-i think finding a birth control test on this island is about as likely as finding, oh, a polar bear, or multiple underground hatches...they have everything

-why are all the other survivors so content on staying at the beach, do they know there's music and food inside the hatch, I'm just waiting for them to find out and storm the hatch

hardly@work- I agree. People don't want to take a sleep in a real bed, or use a shower, or listen to music?

The thought of Sun needing a pregnancy test is funny. Does she think she's going to be able to get an abortion? Or perhaps she needs to know so that she can refrain from visiting the island bars? They got nothing but time to sit and wait.

Re: trouble logging in- I didn't, but sometimes I feel like this thing drops words out of my posts. I'll write a post, read it over, post it, and then notice verbs missing or stuff like that. Of course that could just be my own carelessness. Which has been known to be huge.

Leah -- does the system only select verbs to leave out of your sentences? Sorry, I thought that was rather funny.

Claire was drugged while in the hatch . . . that is why she was slightly loopier than normal this episode.

Lastly - Sun and her pregnancy test. Why on earth should this be mentioned? I mean, seriously, if Sun is pregnant we won't see a kid for 7 or 8 years so why would the writers even make mention of this? Who cares!?! Each season stretches just a little over a month or so; so the earliest we could see Jin Jr. would be five years from now. Won't we all be rather sick to death of a pregnant character by then? If Dharma would be interested in this baby, does it mean that ANY baby is important to them and so the children on the island are not really "special" after all? I think there are too many stories going on as is . . . do we really need a Sun-pregnancy storyline as well?

Please stop letting Kat do recaps. She isn't funny or informative. I enjoy recaps of the surreal life more than Lost. There is a problem. Fix it.

Randonwarf- we've been waiting for this recap for a month- beggars can't be choosers, and lost isnt a funny show and i think kat does a great job of finding humor in it.

Thought I could help with the Brothers Karamazov question in the recap. I was a Russian lit major, and I believe the novel suggests the most famous passage from this novel (and probably the most famous in all of Russian lit), titled ‘The Grand Inquisitor.’ Basically, the main character Ivan tells a parable about Christ returning to Earth during the Grand Inquisition, and which sparks lots of hypotheticals about human nature and free will. Wikipedia gives a good quick summary, or especially Victor Terras’s Handbook of Russian Literature, and if you’re really into it you can read a decent online translation at
www.marion.ohio-state.edu/fac/vsteffel/web336/hist336_grd_inquis.htm
Hope this helps!

I thought this recap really sucked...and it took way too long to be posted. Maybe someone else should take over for Kat...

Though I give MUCHO credit to all the recappers on this site, I agree that it took way too long for this LOST's episode recap to appear. Even the first episode of SOPRANOS had a venue to at least comment.

Imagine the water cooler missing when you go to work tomorrow!

Kat -- I like you and I prefer your writing style to EdHill's. Ed comes across (to me) as elitist and I think his semi-spoilers and prognostications belong in the "messages" section as opposed to an actual "recap."

I love how people complain that we don't get a recap and then they bitch about it once it gets here. People, people, people . . .
