Is this one of their stations?" he asks her. She nods. "They called it the Hydra." "So you people are just whatever's leftover?" he asks. Juliet just smiles and says "Well that was a long time ago. It doesn't matter who we were, it only matters who we are." Perfect Lost like answer. Vague and confirming nothing.

Then Juliet shows Jack her file. It's a mighty big file that has everything about Jacks life in it. Even his fathers autopsy results. When Jack asks how in the world they got them she just says "we got it". Again, if this was me I would say "Well if you have access to getting autopsy reports then you have access to the outside world and can leave whenver you want. OR maybe let us leave. Cuz I am tired of crapping in the jungle on a freaky monster island with polar bears." But this is Lost, Those things rarely happen.

Jack then asks if he has information on Sarah. Juliet says she knows everything. "what would you like to find out?" she says.

Cut to flashback. Sarah is bailing Jack out of jail. He follows her out and stops her in the street. She is walking towards her car where a man is waiyting. "Is that him?!?" he asks. "It doesn't matter" she says. "It doesn't matter who he is it matters who you're not". Wow. That cold. But she's not done. Referring to his drunken father she says "look at the bright side. Now you have something to fix." Damn. That is one nasty bitch. Then she turns around and walks to her car, with the legs that Jack gave her through his miracle efforts at saving her life. Bitch.

Fornicator!

Back in the cell jack looks up at Juliet and says "Is....is she happy?" Yes she is, she says. And with that Jack relents and goes up against the wall as she brings him his food. HE has been broken. A point not lost on Henry as he stands outside the cell as Juliet walks by. "Good work Juliet" he says. She looks at him and says "Thank you Ben."

Wow I got first!!!!!!!!!!

To excited to type!!!

Loved the show but really loved rhe recap. Edhill you rock.

This is probably dumb, but the "Is she... is she happy?" ending totally made me gag. I suppose of all of the characters Jack was the one I would expect that kind of cliché from, but still. C'mon Lost. You can do better.

Everything else though, wow. And I love that Henry Gale (Ben) is still on the show. Because he's my favorite character - you don't get that creepy without having a really great back story.

And not to ramble or anything, but the Sawyer sharing his fish biscuit with Kate was beautiful. Henry "Ben" Gale is right - she belongs with Sawyer, not Cliché Jack.

Henry Gale rules. And I like the Juliet character.

Jack's "Is she...happy?" question at the end was really lame. But then I got to thinking, maybe he had found out who Sarah's new dude was and offed him, so he really didn't need to know from Juliet who the dude was. Sarah was kind of a bitch to me anyway.

Last season, a lot of people were suggesting that Kate was working for the others. At the time I thought it was silly. Now, I'm not so sure. If you study her scenes, it IS a possibility. Who would want to shower in front of a co-worker? And the handcuffs? Maybe a reminder to her of where her loyalties lie and to act like a prisoner - or maybe an Others version of "We're going to work through lunch." Also she had a very odd look on her face after Sawyer threw her the fish biscuit.

Speaking of fish biscuits, I loved the insult to Sawyer that a bear figured it out before he did!

Carl...the 'plant'...the kid in the cage across from Sawyer....he was the same person working on Julie's plumbing in the opening scene. I watched that damn scene 3 times! Twice when the episode started, and twice when it finished.

Why didn't they give us a 2 hour premiere??

Wasn't Ethan the one working on Juliet's plumbing at the beginning?

"MYST"....I thought the same thing when I saw the fork and spoon symbol, (oh how I loved that game)...great minds think alike !!!

I was a little disappointed that we didn't at least see Michael get eaten by a whale or something, it's something I still can hope for.

the rest of the show just frustrated the hell outta me, as it should...just wish they hadn't dwelled on Jack's past so much. Who cares....the good stuff disappeared with Ana's death.

I went back and read all the old blogs to get me hyped up for tonite's show and BOY are there a ton of ????? that I forgot all about, but I'll save 'em for another time, but I suggest all you LOST fans spend some time perusing the archives....refreshes the memory as only TVGASM can.

CUDOS to you guys !!!!

No no.. The bearded guy said the bearS figured it out in however many hours. Then Sawyer asked him how many bears are there? And the guy doesn't answer him.

And I just watched the beginning again online.. and it wasn't Carl who was the plumber at the beginning.. it was Ethan.

One nagging thought, if it was the magnetic release that brought down flight 815 at first why would the plane be breaking up? Last time I checked when something is emp'd, unless the circuits are hardened/protected, they fry so the vehicle just stops dead. At that point the plane would just nosedive/spin like a lawndart. Going from memory the plane was alright, engines going when the tail section blew off and were still running when Jack hit the beach after stumbling through the jungle. Or am I becoming that which I most hate while watching this show?

I think the blonde girl ..julie/juliet was on melrose place always loved her! the woman leading the aa meeting that jack attacked his dad at was locke's girlfriend who left him for being obsessive re his dad..anyone else think the guy jack's wife was driving away with looked like ethan??

EdHill....once again, another great recap. Thanks.
Was I the only one freaked out by "Jack the Stalker"? I think the point of the flashback was to show how Jack jumps to conclusions and pretty much always blamed his dad for whatever went wrong in his life. We now know that, indirectly, Jack was responsible for his father's downfall. B/C of Jack, his dad fell off the wagon and killed that patient, lost his medical practice and went to Australia to "die". I personaly don't think his dad is dead. Remember him walking around the island and Jack finding his empty coffin? Another question for another episode.
I don't think Kate is one of the others....and I bet she and Sawyer will hook up. Sawyer seemed so proud when he figured out the cage but the look on his face when the fish biscuit came out was priceless.
Juliet seems to be just as evil as all the Others. What drugs are they taking that give them such strength? Must be a powerful steriod. I think Juliet was on the boat that sunk the raft and took Walt. Remember the blonde on the boat? I don't care what their story is, they seem EVIL. Oh, and Juliet was Weaver's lover on ER.

Such a great way to start the season!!! Can't wait to next week, hope we see what is going on at the beach...I hope Sayid goes all Iraqi on the Others. He rocks!

The woman leading the AA meeting was NOT Katey Segal (may be spelled differently) aka the woman who played Locke's girlfriend.

Juliet was not on Melrose Place. This is the actress that was on Melrose Place:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005393/

EdHill, you still rock. Getting that recap out so fast--great job!! Now, please explain about the four-toed statue and where the Others got those nice cottages from. Oh, wait, do we still have to watch and learn and get more questions to ask next week too?

Well, dammit, just when I thought I was out...THEY PULLED ME BACK IN!

First episode and we're off and running. First off, I always hate Julie Bowen, who plays Sarah. Hated her on "Ed" when she played the hard-to-get idiot and hate her on "Boston Legal", where she plays the same self-involved cheerleader she always plays. Hope we're rid of her. Methinks Jack was so obesessed because he performed the "miracle" that kept her alive and he feels only he can have her.

Yes, it was Ethan's fixing Juliet's plumbing (oooo, I like that!).

Sawyer's still Sawyer, stupid, impulsive and something of a caricature of a Southern tough. Still, he always seems to redeem himsel. Those of you surprised that Kate keeps flirting with the idea of having Sawyer should remember she's still the murdering, robbing criminal she was back in the US of A. Don't expect her to be the redeeming force to "rescue" Jack from his private hell.

All in all, a rockingg, socking episode with a great recap. Let's get ready to rrrrrrrrruuuuuummmmble!

Who puts toothpicks in a grilled cheese sandwich? The melted cheese holds the bread together already, no need for reinforcement.

Great reacap--impressed by all the direct quotes...

suggestion for those watching lost on a regular old tv--take the time to watch it online--such a different experience, I really need hdtv

I saw this wasa topic of some debate on the boards- were the others suprised that the plane crashed?

IMO: yes, I believe they thought it was an earthquake and reacted quickly accordingly, then they heard noise, and looked outside. I think Benry was cold and calculatign in his response to infiltrate them, but did it for the others protection. Its not like they haven't had to respond to things falling out of the sky before(parachute, nigerian drug plane) then they used the lists to contact someone to get info on the losties

-benry totally tried to drown juliet by slamming that door in her face, wonder whats up with those two?

I thought the show moved a bit too slooooooooooow. Too many Matrix-like moments for me (I'm talking "dialogue from the second two movies", not the "kickass action sequences from the first one" stuff).

As for Julie Bowen, all I can say is that I thought she was hot in "Happy Gilmore". And that her real last name is WAY too hard to spell.

My money's on Jack hooking up with Juliet. Either that, or Juliet dies a painful, slow, horrible death. Knowing "Lost", it will probably be both.

And what's Henry Gale's real name, anyway? Is Ben a middle name? And how did he get control of the Others? And at this point, I have almost completely lost track of who's on which side (or if they're even on different sides). How has more beef with the Others, the Tailies or, uh, the Jackoffs? What do the Others frickin' want with everybody? And is there an underlying stew of hatred brewing between the Jackoffs and the Tailies? Who are the Godfather's Ho's, and what do they do? (Whoops, wrong show, wrong channel, wrong year.)

I want to hate it...but I can't. Damn you, Double-J.

I have a feeling that the plant from the cage will make a repeat apperance and that because Sawyer was there for his escape attempt he'll think the guy is trustworthy and something bad will result.

I really don't understand the others not taking Sayid, aside from the fact the he would probably be harder to break than Jack/Kate/Sawyer he is also clearly the one person on the island most capable of finding their hiding place and mounting a rescue attempt.

Good episode, great recap! I actually think that Juliet will come over to the Losties side, she didn't seem all that happy ... and that was before Benry locked her in the underwater hatch. I also think that the hookups will be Jack and Juliet, Kate and Sawyer.

And is it just me, or are there too many willowy blondes on this show? When the episode started, I dind't know if that was Sarah, or Desmond's girl, or what...

OK, so I may be WAY out of left park, but it looked to me like Kate was in much worse shape when she was lead to the cages than when we originally saw her awake in the shower. Do you think she might have been beaten the crap out of after Benry (I like that, hardly@work!) told her the next two weeks were going to be very painful? My mind immediately drifted to maybe she was forcefully impregnated by Benry?!?!?! They have a thing with kids, and maybe they need a legacy for their leader, Benry?

EdHill - I adore you and your Lost recaps. However, it was not Sarah that called Jack's dad, it was Jack calling. He was dialing all of the numbers on the list and dialed the next one while his dad was telling him to stop. That next one turned out to be his Dad's cell. I kept thinking "but wouldn't Jack know his own father's cell phone number??" I guess he was so blinded by jealousy he didn't even realize the #s he was dialing.

All in all, the flashback was annoying. I too hope we never see Julie Bowen again. The only redeeming thing about the flashback is that we learned why Jack's mom was able to guilt him into going to Australia in the first place. He felt responsible for his dad falling off the wagon and that he needed to rescue him. And all because of Sarah. So now he ended up on the island as a prisoner of the Others... makes me think I'd want her to be miserable instead of happy.

I thought that Carl was probably one of the tailies taken the first/second night. Didn't he ask Sawyer about the people that were still left at the beach? And, where did they take him after his escape?

EdHill, great recap of a great episode.

the reason jack got suspicious that his dad was involved with jack's ex wife is that when jack was dialing one of the numbers in his ex wife's phone, his dad's phone rings and jack realizes that sarah's been calling him.

EdHill, great recap of a great episode.

the reason jack got suspicious that his dad was involved with jack's ex wife is that when jack was dialing one of the numbers from his ex wife's phone, he ends up calling his dad's phone, which rings, and in that scene jack realizes that sarah's been calling his dad.

does anyone else think that the "bears" that were in the cages are polar bears, like the one they saw in season one? i assumed a brown/black bear, but after thinking about it more the polar bear came to mind.

I enjoyed the season opener but I could have definitely done without all of the "Jackbacks." Don't we know this stuff already??? I am sure there is more to it than we know now - but still. There is a lot of stuff that needs to be addressed from last season and here we are again, in true LOST fashion, with more questions on top of questions. Why did the Others look like they made their clothes from bark whenever we have seen them in the past? Now they all look like a bunch of preppies. I am so desperate for some answers.

EdHill, great job. I love the line about Juliet seeing Ben's OH face. Laughed out loud!! What is with tv chicks and their muffin baking?
And Ben must have know Juliet wouldn't drown - did you see those floatation devices, aka: breasts?

"The Other laughs and says "You're not my type". Isn't her type? Have you seen her? Either he's gay, or the Others truly are freakish monsters. Or maybe hes just a chubby chaser."

Maybe he just doesn't like girls with huge dents in their chins ;x

BaskEtcAse- very good theory! i forgot about the taken tailies.

Great recap ed- I thought the ep was kind of boring after hte first ten minutes. and how on earth would they have gotten that door shut? still i'm just glad the show is back

djo8901: the others wore raggedy costumes to make the losties think they are unsophisticated savages, not scientists, etc. living in suburbia, and not come looking for thir village,

i don't understand why danielle never found it though

The woman who plays Juliet was in "Gia." If you haven't yet seen it, I highly suggest finding a copy ASAP.

How did no one else recognize Juliet for who she is.......Mrs. Claus! She's the one who married Tim Allen in Santa Clause 2.

Actually, the real question is why am I admitting to have seen that movie?

Thanks for the recap, EdHill. I also don't like Sarah and think she's an ungrateful bitch. Even if things weren't great with Jack, she should have divorced him before jumping to some other guy. And that "is she happy?" question was very lame.
The main thing that bugs me about all this is the unmitigated gall of the Others. They are evil scumbag murderers but expect their prisoners to trust them and be grateful for what they get.
soflat (#16)- who puts toothpicks in a grilled cheese sandwich? The same person who burns muffins and burns her hand trying to take said muffins out of the oven. I'm betting she thinks toothpicks stuck in a sandwich are for decorative purposes. I'm guessing Cooking 101 is not on Juliet's transcripts.
hardly@work (#31)- I wouldn't say the Others were trying to look like unsophisticated savages so much as castaways who'd been stuck on the island a long time.
I think what the others are doing and why they take only certain people is pretty obvious if you watch the clip that resulted from the internet game (http://www.tvgasm.com/archives/lost/002754.php) but I don't want to say anything in case anyone is avoiding the clip because you think it's a spoiler.
Anyhoo, it was a great start to the season. Let's see where they take us next.

Wow, Sarah really was ungrateful, wasn't she? Just tell him the name, darnit - he'll leave you alone!

I thought this was a great episode. I can't wait to see what Sayid is going to do!!

T-TOW!!!

Nice one, EdHill. Made me larf.

So my husband suggested this intriguing idea: given that the island cures cancer and paraplegia and whatnot, maybe the Village of the Others is populated by people who are more or less immortal. Maybe they've been there for a long long time. But they can't reproduce for some reason, so that's why the obsession with children? Although, Sun and Jin's pregnancy sort of dents that theory ...

hahaa edhill, fart bubbles. Myst completely 'mystified' me, i could never get it! of course i was in 6th grade when I tried to play it, that might have something to do w/ it. I saw Gia, Juliet was Angelina Jolie's lesbian lover right? That movie was pretty intense, and sadly, based on a true story. so, yeah, a TON of questions, can't wait till next week!
I wanna know where WAALLLT and his dad are and why the let him go? thats just one of many questions...

Now that someone has brought it up... Maybe he is a taily!
How many people did the Others take? I know they took the 2 kids right.... they took other ppl though didn't they?

I really don't think Carl is a plant/spy. He's either another survivor of the plane crash OR... he's one of them that doesn't want to be any longer.
Maybe he even could be a child from one of crazy French Lady's crew. He looked pretty young so... if he was born on the island... he's be about that age.
I just don't think he's a plant by the others. That'd be too obvious.

As long as Michael is shanked this season, I will be VERY happy with anything the show does.

Fantastic season premiere and a great recap. I am so psyched to have this show back.

I do recall the tailies saying that "Carl" was one of the ones taken.

While Jack's ex Sarah is a pretty unlikeable character, I think the actress playing her, Julie Bowen is adorable. My friends and I used to have much debate about who we would rather do on "Ed": Julie Bowen or Rena Sofer, much a modern-day take on the age-old Mary-Ann vs. Ginger conundrum.

JasonR - YES! I love Carol Vesey and always will. She can do no wrong.

Awesome recap EdHill. I love reading everyone's comments almost as much as watching the show. I have the most f'ed up relationship with this show. While watching it, I can't help feeling mildly disappointed, and yet, when it's over, I can't wait for the next one.

I was a little disappointed in the opening but really...it would have been impossible for them to beat last season's "HOLY SHIT! This guy is IN the hatch!" moment.

Great Episode/Recap but when are we gonna see Roussao's daughter Alex again? :)

I don't think this season opener was anywhere as good as last year's ('Make Your Own Kind of Music' is better than 'Downtown'); but that would have been impossible in my book. Last year's kicked ass and this one was kind of a punch in the nose -- but it was still better than anything else on television (except for TAR and Project Runway).

I guess I am the only person who thinks Jack's flashbacks were very important to the big picture. So many people seem to HATE Jack and want nothing to do with him; but now we know why Jack's father "fell apart." We also know why Jack has so much guilt and why he felt it necessary to retrieve him from Australia. I am so pleased that this story has finally been told (although it was sad) -- and I think this is just about the only answer from the past that we have gotten so I will take it. I don't think anything else is going to be resolved anytime soon.

I did have a problem with the Other's village. It was very Village-esque to me. I have seen similarities between Lost and the Sixth Sense; now we have the Village and Juliet was a Lady in the Water. Please, Lost . . . no more M. Night Shyamalan because you are so much better than that.

I kind of feel bad for Juliet. Not only has she been shown that she is expendable; but Ethan was fixing her plumbing when he got sent off to the beach to infiltrate the Losties. He was killed a few days later so I wonder if she has any running water or working toilets. Maybe this is why she now resides in the underwater hatch. :( Poor Juliet and even poorer if she ever had a relationship with Henry Gale. Ugh.

Sarah is a B-I-T-C-H. How terrible she is! I cannot believe this is a person that Jack would have fallen in love with. I mean, she could fall out of love with Jack and want a divorce; but this is a man who DID save your life. I mean, her life was gone, and he gave it back to her. Where is the gratitude for that at least!? I don't ever want to see the character again either unless we get to see her in a holding cell of the Other's. It is too bad Jack didn't save Mr. Rutherford instead. Soulless, indeed. Yes, Ed, she is a Jezebel (wasn't she torn apart by savage dogs?).

These Others need to stop telling the Losties that "this is our island." I bet every Lostie -- except for Locke, Rose and Bernard (perhaps Kate) -- would gladly go back home.

I think Libby did mention a Carl being taken last season.

Hardly@work -- excellent comment about Danielle not knowing about the commune. Humm . . . maybe she was once part of them and now stays away. I don't know, but that is a good question. I highly doubt someone as ingenious as Henry Gale would get caught up in one of her traps -- perhaps she sent Gale to the beach with Sayid.

wniffene -- I was a big proponent of Kate being involved with the island last season and I still believe that she very well could be. I think it has something to do with her military father. Desmond's hatchmate used to work with Kate's father in the military (they were shown together last season in an Iraq flashback) so there could definitely be a link between the two (Kate = island). I am also beginning to suspect that Jack's father is linked to the island as is Sawyer's. Jack's would make sense since we know of his medical background and we know practically NOTHING of Sawyer's father so he could be on the island (very secretive and hush-hush). This would at least be a reason for requesting these specific three to come back to camp. Seriously, wouldn't these Others rather get their hands on someone more valuable like Sayid?

I'd better stop writing now -- sorry I get very long-winded. I was bemoaning a new season of this frustrating series because I was tired of being frustrated (humm . . . ) but it has very easily drawn me back in. We'll see what the future brings . . .

Nice work Mr Hill.

Wonder what they did to Kate before she got caged.

Does anyone else think Jack is going to sorta "join" the others either to fake them out or as the result of being brainwashed?

Not only am I recording every episode on my dvr this season, I'm transfering them all to dvd to avoid any eletronic catastrophes. I'm going to waste loads of time analyzing. The EdHill perspective will contribute to my isolation and growing obsession.

So THANKS Ed!

Thank you for the great recap EdHill!
(#21)I also am wondering if the others are trying impregnate Kate. You are right on the whole kid obsession.
(#36)Sun and Jin's kid was not concieved on the island. In an episode last season we find out that Jin's little boys couldn't swim. And Jun was having an affair, so the inference is that the baby is the harlots lovers. But Jin thinks he is the dad because he doesn't know about the affair. What is with all of the married women having affairs on this show.
Can't wait till next week.

pbd

Great Recap Ed. Loved it.

I think Jack had a right to be a tad obssesed with finding out who his wife was leaving him for. She's just mean and ungratful. I realize that you don't love him anymore, but why do you have to crush the guy? He still cares for you.

It did look like Kate was pretty scared looking when she got back from breakfast and her arms were pretty soar. I'm sure they did something to her. Impregnating her could be it.

I'm so glad this show is back and can't wait for more!

pearlblackdragon, I think that the baby WAS conceived on the island. the island cured Locke's paraplegia, Rose's cancer and Jin's infertility [and maybe Charlie's drug addiction, though that is not so clear cut]

I have to say that I'm disturbed by all the comments calling Jack's wife an ungrateful bitch. Since when, in this country, does the act of saving someone's life make a person beholden for the rest of their lives? If I recall correctly, Jack's obsession with fixing things made him risk Sarah's life to do the operation; luckily it worked. To have a marriage based on that was stupid; Jack was a crappy husband. He even admitted it, when it was too late - after telling Sarah he'd been attracted to the daughter of one of his dead patients. He obviously went into violent, obsessive, stalker mode; he even pushed his dad back to drinking himself to death - how does that make the smart wife who got out before she was beaten or killed the "bitch?" Jack is exhibiting all the signs of an abusive husband, and many people commenting here think she should go back to him because once upon a time, he got lucky after risking her life? I've got to wonder how many of these same commenters would wonder out loud why a woman who's been abused by her husband stays with him? The way Jack was acting, I wouldn't give the new guy's name, either, considering Jack's gotten pretty damn scary with the divorce. How do we know we won't see another flashback in a later episode where Jack does find out the guy's name and kills him before running to Australia? As we all know, each character but Jack has been shown doing murder.

All I'm saying is: give Sarah a break - freaking Jack is unhinged. Not to mention, he's a frikkin' pussy for being the first to crack. Sheesh.

One thing I find hilarious about this show: at a time when our country is busy killing as many Iraqis as it possibly can - having spent the last five years demonizing Saddam's Republican Guard - Sayid is teh hot, sex symbol, despite the fact that he's engaged in torture on pretty shaky grounds twice over the course of the show.

Don't get me wrong - I think he's adorable as an actor; he was wonderful singing and dancing in Bride and Prejudice, but in today's political climate, it's funnier than hell that our real life "enemy" is a character that's heroic and sexy on a hit tv show. I have no doubt the producers are amused and probably sickened as I am about the irony.

No one said that Sarah should get back with Jack, just that she should show a little more respect and appreciation. If she fell out of love with him for whatever reason it's fine, but does she have to be such a bitch about it?

Also, why is it sickening that the Iraqi character is considered sexy? I don't get what you're trying to say.

Bailing him out of jail isn't respect and appreciation? Enlisting the help of his father to try to get Jack to accept the inevitable divorce wasn't respect and appreciation? Marrying him after he fixed her legs wasn't appreciation? Jack didn't do that out of love, remember, he did it because of his obsession with going against his father; it was his need to prove his worth to daddy that made Jack perform a risky operation on a woman he didn't know. She was no more beholden to Jack than I am when my doctor gives me antibiotics for an infection.

And where was his respect and appreciation for her when she sat at home alone for years while Jack runs around "fixing" everyone else? When he's kissing other women? Jack blew his marriage because of his obsessions, why is she considered the evil bitch?

I'm just wondering why she's the one getting all the scorn, when Jack's the one going crazy, stalking and picking fights and neglecting his patients. He doesn't OWN her because he fixed her. He fixed her so she could have a normal life, didn't he? Life with him wasn't normal anymore, she has the right to move on when her marriage has fallen apart.

As for Sayid, what I'm saying is that I find torture sickening (and in the two instances Sayid used it, he failed to get the information he needed, whereas a simple kiss from Kate made Sawyer talk, and we saw how well torture worked on Henry Gale). I'm saying that it's darkly amusing that for the past four years, we've been told over and over by the news and the president what evil torturers and rapists the Iraqis were and now we have a tv character who is an evil Iraqi torturer, yet is considered a sex symbol by viewers. You don't think that's the least bit ironic?

Shorter answer, if someone were stalking me to the point of violence, I think I'd have the right to be a bitch about it, no matter what the stalker has done for me in the past.

Final question: Does anyone think it's possible that Juliet's supposed file on Jack is just a bunch of empty papers, and while Jack, Kate, and Sawyer were under the influence of whatever might have been injected in them, they were extensively questioned about their weaknesses so they could be manipulated psychologically? Maybe the others don't have access to the outside; maybe all they have are the tricks they've learned over the years to break people. Kate and Sawyer are much harder nuts to crack, (Sawyer endured torture without breaking down, remember). Putting them both in jail was the start of their 2 weeks of "unpleasantness" I think. Wasn't that the main thing they were both running from? Jack, of course, was running from himself, so he was easiest to break.

I see what your're saying about Jack and Sarah... but I still think she's a bitch. :P She just seems like one of those people who like being gracious because they're opportunities for others to kiss their ass. Like when she bailed Jack out, that was nice of her but did she have to bring her boyfriend and then talk about how much better he is than Jack? Unnecessary rudeness is what I hate about her. It's just so odd to me.

And I never thought of Sayid's sexiness as ironic, no. If viewers considered him a sweet nice, compassionate guy, then I might be able to see what you're saying, because it kind of goes against the whole "terrorist" thing. But alot of people find rough, bad boys sexy whatever their nationality or whatever war is going on. And whenever I hear the word "Iraqi" or see Sayid... I don't really think of muslim terrorists, either. But then again, I try to avoid the news.

I like your theory about Jack, Sawyer and Kate. When I first saw the bandage on Jack's arm, I immediately thought the Others must have injected something in him to make him talk. It couldn't have been a good thing.

troiaj, I think a lot of people empathize with the person being dumped; the dump-er is usually seen as the bad guy, just because the dump-ee seems so miserable. It's natural, I think. Maybe I'm more inclined to feel sorry for Sarah because I don't really like Jack - too much a control freak for my taste.

That's what I find interesting about the whole show anyhow - because we don't have enough information about any of the characters, we base our opinions of them on our own experiences. We are part of the experiment, in a way. We don't know for sure who's good or who's bad, so we see the characters very differently.

Don't blame you for avoiding the news, it's never good anymore. Maybe because I'm a news junkie it only feels ironic to me. I like Sayid myself, he's the most interesting character besides Sun and Jin for me.

That is such an interesting theory.... maybe they were injected with a truth serem type drug. When I saw the needle marks, I wondered why the Others wanted blood samples, but maybe they injected them with something. Or maybe they did both.

I could understand why Sarah didn't want to be with Jack, because of the things that had happened in the past, but I don't agree with her method. I do think she should have divorced him before finding herself another man. I felt sorry for Jack, because you could really see how much he loved her and how sorry he was for what he'd done. Obviously she felt it was too late, though.

I want to see Sayid!!! And Hurley. I love Hurley!!

Yay, LOST is back!!!

I think Sayid is sexy b/c the actor playing him is sexy. Not b/c he's an Iraqui, or a torturer, or a terrorist- but b/c it's a TV show and I like the actor. Just like Kaysar on BB, you can't read too much into it. Naveen Andrews is a sexy man, thusly so is Sayid. I say he should torture the hell out of all the Others until they spill the secret of why they are there.

zoobabe, Sayid's cute because he's cute, I agree. I was just pointing out the irony, which is apparently lost on a lot of people. There is no irony when the torture guy is cute, right? Someone alert Rumsfeld! He's been doing it wrong all this time!

maybe I'm missing your point coyote, if so please excuse my ignorance BUT real life torture by the US govt. is different than a TV SHOW which in no way (fog, polar bears, miracle cures, clean castaways, a fat dude that doesn't lose weight) tries to emulate a real life scenario. I think Charlie's cute too, but I'm not scoping out the methadone clinic for my next date.

Sorry, zoobabe, you're not missing anything. My point is obscure, and I have a nasty sense of humor. Obviously, my point isn't important in the greater scheme of things on the island. How real people interpret what happens on the show is part of my enjoyment of it, but I'll try to limit my comments to the context of just the show from now on!

BTW, I thought Hurley's weight was addressed by his secret food stash. Also, Lestat above made a good point about Jin being cured of his infertility by the island; someone mentioned that Sun had slept with her special friend, but I believed her when she said she hadn't slept with anyone else.

iamcoyote- that's a lot of posts and a lot of ranting for a blog people read for fun and snark.

It's just a TV show.

Sorry, d-fly, I didn't realize there was a posting limit.

coyote- after reading the last paragraph of the blog you linked to on your Typekey account, I now have a better idea where you're coming from. I still stand by my points, but to each his/her own. No need to limit your comments. We still have freedom of speech in "real" life- dont we? :)

btw- I don't buy the explanation about Hurley's lack of weight loss either. I think the writers just threw that one in there to placate the rabid fanbase.

Thanks, zoobabe, sometimes I just think too much about things! As for Hurley, his weight never bothered me; knowing that there are genetic components to obesity, I figured he'd have a harder time losing weight than other people. By the same token, if it came down to starvation on the island, he'd probably be the last one to die of it!

I was watching season 1 the other day and I noticed that all of the actors have gained some weight since then, except for maybe Jack. It's funny 'cause most people would have lost weight while living off of strictly fish and fruit and walking around an island all day.

No kidding, troiaj! But they'd be getting more muscular, what with all the building of shelters and all the walking around on sand. The Dharma food must be loaded with carbs.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Dharma food. Maybe all the stress has them eating lots of it...

#45, I didn't think Sun was having an affair , just learning english, and 2 the island cures things.

And TWilliams!! Were we not saying how we would not watch?! I dvred it and got sucked in also. Jacks flashback wasn't as benign as usual and served a good point, but I kinda think Jack has always been an ass to his dad. We have now learned a lot about Jacks character. He is weak. And a bit neroutic. Not weak because the others have appeared to have "broken" him, which I don't yet buy, but because he is always on the attack and so defensive on and off the island.

I had also thought that Sawyers parents were killed by a hustler when he was a kid right? And that is why he has been hunting the "Real Sawyer" and was in Australia in the first place right?

I only watch these episodes once so I might be wrong, I'm counting on you guys to correct me if I am!!

I may be completly off but dont you think its weird that there were toothpicks in the sandwich not just one but many. can you pick a lock with toothpicks? maybe she was trying to help jack?

I adore you and your Lost recaps. However, it was not Sarah that called Jack's dad, it was Jack calling. He was dialing all of the numbers on the list and dialed the next one while his dad was telling him to stop. That next one turned out to be his Dad's cell.
Thank you for pointing that out. I've heard speculation that Sarah had been cheating on Jack with his father, but I just don't see it, especially after seeing her with that other guy after bailing Jack out of jail. Oh yeah, nice to know Jack is a stalker too.

Did anyone get the impression that Juliet was upset about something or depressed while listening to "downtown"?

If you look at the end of the opening sequence showing Losteria Lane, you can see it's cut off from the rest of Craphole Island by a ridge of mountains, requiring a ferry to get there.

who puts toothpicks in a grilled cheese sandwich?

That sandwich looked pretty sad, did it not?

Sarah really was ungrateful, wasn't she? Just tell him the name, darnit - he'll leave you alone!

I doubt it -- I suspect StalkerJack would then try to change "fix" himself and then demand she give him another chance...

Umm, I'd like to buy a vowel...

Ooohh! I like that idea!

Ubiquitous: if the lostville is surrounded by mountains and only accesible by ferry, them how did ethan and goodwin run to where the losties landed?

TVWillliams & Mistichristie: ha! I knew you were going to watch....

I do think Juliet had a whole bunch of nothing in front of her, thats was why Henry congratulated her on tricking Jack into thinking they had stuff on him? maybe?

if the lostville is surrounded by mountains and only accesible by ferry, them how did ethan and goodwin run to where the losties landed?

Yeah, I wondered about that as well. Can we blame it on the writers? How did Goodwin even arrive ten minutes after they swam ashore anyways?

YEA! Now I don't feel so bad, I'm not the only one who mucks up your name TWilliams! (I got it now though!)

I watched the video from the recap of the previous show and I am just wondering if they are going to inject or have injected Jack, Sawyer and Kate with the virus that was mentioned. Would that explain the next two weeks comment?

I didn't think Sun was having an affair , just learning english, and 2 the island cures things.
I'm pretty sure she was, given her reaction to Jin at the time about 1) keeping secrets from each other and 2) his joy at being a father.

Please explain more. You do think that she had an affair? Did they say that? I must have missed it. :)

Hardly@work, I never said I wasn't going to watch. I even commented that I hoped season 3 was more like season 1 than 2. I still think season 2 was rather lackluster (expect for the first episode).

I did say I was sick of recap episodes that try to clue-in new viewers because they are basically saying "this is all that you really need to know about" to start watching. I understand the point of them; but it is very frustrating to someone who has spent so much time trying to place together so many small pieces from here and there. I honestly do not understand how this can't annoy people other than myself. :(

As for the Other's village, it is NOT cut off from the rest of the island. It is nestled in the middle of a thick forest at the foot of some mountains. My only problem with this is that we pretty much see the entire island and it is huge. How is it NOT seen by others in the outside world? Goodwin did make it to the tailies rather quickly; but these writers have to take some liberties. That, and we are talking about Lost so perhaps he rode to them on the back of a flying polar bear.

I think Ben/Henry said to Ethan it would take him like three hours to get the fuseloge(SP?), but he didn't give any ETA for Goodwin. The tailies were probably closer so that's why Goodwin got there in what seems like less time.

Please explain more. You do think that she had an affair? Did they say that? I must have missed it. :)

Well, it's been awhile, but Sun started getting awfully fidgety when Jin started talking about them having no more secrets to share and how they were going to be totally honest with each other, yada yada fishcuits... :-)
I honestly do not understand how this can't annoy people other than myself. :(

You're not the only one.

Goodwin did make it to the tailies rather quickly; but these writers have to take some liberties.

Perhaps there are underground passages? I seem to recall that map in the hatch showed tunnels connecting the various stations on the island.

I think Jack is going to die. His story is now all wraped up. His dad is dead. His wife's back story is finished and he is content with her being happy. There is nothing left to tell. We got answers to all the questions, unlike for example: Why libby was in the mental hospital with Hurly. And she still got the axe.

Has anyone ever read Atlas Shrugged?

This whole scenario is beginning to remind me of the Shangri-la that John Galt established in the mountains of Colorado. In the case of that location, it was shielded from the outside world by an electromagnetic shield that bent light and so forth.

I am beginning to think that what we have here is a utopian society that was somehow started on this island, knowing that they could stay hidden from the world because of it's magnetic properties. Thus, satellites, planes, etc. cannot detect it. That would also explain why the Others do not want anyone to get off the island. Anyone who reaches the outside world is going to tell everyone about it.

That is why I believe either Michael and Walt will be intercepted or that the Others are truly naive enough to believe he will not tell anyone their location.
