Jeez, Get him a tranqulizer already.
He makes me wanna pukeeeeeee

B-side...you rock. Did you put together that little video? I Laughed my ass off!

They don't have Oprah in Australia, so this is the first I've seen of this...wow. I mean, wow. I don't know who to be more embarassed for, The Cruise, or the idiot women in Oprah's audience who scream like wild monekys at anything that moves.

EVERYBODY GETS A CAR!

Yeah, it was embarrassing all around. I would have made the video longer to include some of Tom's "serious" and "sincere" moments, but I didn't want to overload our server.

Gee, he's kinda acting like a teenage boy who had sex with a girl for the first time

"Gee, he's kinda acting like a teenage boy who had sex with a girl for the first time"

...well it is tom cruise.

Oprah was acting goofy, too. She and Tom probably shared the same crack pipe.

I had the misfortune (?) of missing the show, but in watching this video, I see that Tom practically did assault her. She's probably got bruises on her shoulders as a souvenir from Ol' Tom.

I'm boycotting this nonsense. When did Tom Cruise begin robbing the cradle? What the hell is he thinking? And Oprah promotin' this nonsense. It was one thing when she encouraged middle-aged women to get it on with men in their 30's, but this is insupportable.

what a tool... does anyone else think tom cruise is gay?

I think everyone KNOWS he's gay. I dont know who hes trying to fool.

that is one of the best things i have ever seen.

Oh. My. Damn. I have never seen a grown-ass man act like that before! Hell, I don't think I've even seen a middle school boy act like that. Is the kitty-cat that good? Katie Holmes acted like she was way embarrased. I mean how long has he known her, like three weeks? Women always tell men to share their feelings more, be more demonstrative, etc. Well, if this is what a man acts like when he is "in love", keep all that to yourself. Do that mess in private. It is possible to for a person to express that they are really into someone without jumping on a couch repeatedly. So weird.

Hey Tom, Jim Carrey called...he wants his crazy back.

Celebrities will do anything for publicity. Tom Cruise is doing anything to promote his movie. This reminds me of when the rumors that Demi Moore was pregnant with Ashton Kutcher's child. That story came out the very same week that his latest movie was in the theaters. It's always some sort of publicity scam. Both Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise have two blockbuster movies coming out in only a few weeks.

God, I cannot WAIT until the South Park guys have their way with Tom.

May I give you some sage advice B-Side? Don't add super-loud music to the video clips(this and the Maria clips). It ruins it. Otherwise, rock on.

Hey, didn't recognize the tune playing, but liked it. Can anyone clue me in?

Yeah TC is definitely gay - every single one of his heterosexual "relationships" has been a scam for publicity. I mean, it's clear !!! I'm surprised there were no middle-aged men in the audience screaming for him - at least then his reactions might have been a tad more organic!

Someone needs to audit his meta thetans pronto. His emotinal tone scale is all out of tune. XEnu will not be happy.

On a non insane Scientology note, my friend nancy swears he called katie HOlmes Nic. She saved it on her TIVO.

OMG!!! For someone who preaches about not using drugs with his Scientology BS, he sure looks like he's on crack or some heavy hallucinogens.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH HIM?!
He looks completely insane.
So he's in love? Big deal, nobody cares, stop scaring people freakboy.

For a minute, I thought they were playing a Guster tune on Oprah... no way Oprah would be that cool, though.

BigMax-- That's a song called "Center of Attention" by Guster-- very cool. I recommend their older stuff, though. The drummer guy plays bongos... everything with his hands! Its great.

Guster is the shit. Their online road diaries are funny as hell.

Guster is awesome. Go out and buy their albums now.

And Tom, lay off the drugs, mmmmkay?

And the Oscar goes too..............

Thanks for the music info. Office debate -- is this worse than Rosie's Riding the Bus With My Sister?

I say yes -- at least she was SUPPOSED to be developmentally disabled...

the music turned out way louder than it was supposed to, and since it's a whole process to upload the video onto the internet, i just let it stay. didn't matter though. when the music got loud, there wasn't actually any dialogue worth listening to.

To paraphrase the immortal words of Mr. Howard Stern: This reeks of "look at me. I'm in love with a girl. I'm not gay."

Hilarious! I was upset that I didn't get to see the show when it aired, but this more than makes up for it. Thanks for that! Cruise is trying way too hard. I hope Katie's in on this stunt.

Xemu will not be happy --
he chose to promote his new film and
new faux hetero lover , instead of
SCIENTOLOGY which "saves so many children from drugs" and "cured Tom of his dyslexia"...

too bad you have to pay/work for the organization to the tune of $50,000 before you learn the secret that emotional problems come from the murdered souls of space aliens that possess us.

Keep smiling! Ratings SweepsHO'prah
you are just as disgusting as a brainwashed actor with no critivcal reasoning functions left. sad

B-side-

I pretty much live for the clips you provide! Before I played it, it looks like Tom is riding the back of the couch.

This video is genius. I've been watching it over and over again. Awesome shit, it's cracking my ass up!!!

You could see the look on Harpoon's face that says "This guy's fucking psycho, but oh, what Ratings"!! "Now I can give everyone in the world a free cruise, or car or something..."

Well at least he's a method actor and committed to that shit, even if it is fake.

I think it would be cool to have him around as like a party attraction, and he could keep jumping on the furniture and bouncing around in a corner or something.

I read that Tom Cruazy criticized Brooke Shields for taking anti depressants for post-partum depression when she was having suicidal and homicidal thoughts and recommend she followed the way of scientology and take vitamins to control those urges.
Where does this guy get off telling people they're wrong about something he never has and never will experience? Yeah, I'm so sure vitamins will control suicidal/homicidal thoughts. What a fruitcake.
This video only further proves what a total lunatic he is. Thanks for posting it B-side. At least now I can laugh at what a nutjob he is.
Don't think I'll be seeing any of his movies in the future, he just creeps me out.

Well at least he's a method actor and committed to that shit, even if it is fake.

I think it would be cool to have him around as like a party attraction, and he could keep jumping on the furniture and bouncing around in a corner or something.

Well, I enjoyed his elvish leaping and little boy playfulness. Oh, and Oprah's restraint for not kicking his ass on TV!

Guys, hello,(excuse my english)
let's just give Tom (human being in serious danger), a big break here. He deserve it. Still this dangerous church of scientology is so on him, I'm scare for Tom. I've read his bios, because I'm an actress and find his sucess amazing, I love his superb acting move from Eyes Wide Shut to Magnolia.
He is always very nice as I met him four times. He has flaws and it look like the world is discovering him.
Why on earth no one is here to help him? take Spielberg, kidman carreerist liar, Pollack, Russel Crowe, Pinket Smith, they are not into scientology; they can tell him he's going in a bad way? No, they do not.
And his family is annoying , from his bastard vagabond and violent father, and his sister who don't want the truly hapiness for her brother?
He get to fast a big big movie star.

And fuck Mimi Rogers! she is the niece of Hubbard! she grip him when he was very young, at the top gun, and suffer the lost of his father who return from nowhere to say: "hello again, I'm dying with cancer; wanna see me die?" (cynic)
they get into his brain so much I don't know how he could leave it.
Think he is not allowed to take medications if he's unhealthy.
As for Holmes, I dunno. He get sick with these people /US polls, so he was scare on Oprah and crack up; IT HAPPENS actually. Nobody's perfect.

BTW, I find you here very rude, it's a little disgusting! are you perfect or what???

Anyway,goodbye :)

Hilarious.

And he's right -- it's all about his upcoming movie.

There's sinister things going on behind the scenes.

"BTW, I find you here very rude, it's a little disgusting!"
From the poster who says:
"kidman carreerist liar"
"And fuck Mimi Rogers!"

Hello pot, it's me Nat, the kettle!!

And by the way Nat, your attempt to defend Tommy boy is pretty poorly written and hard to understand. What on earth are you talking about??? Have you been taking the same the Tomster he has?

"BTW, I find you here very rude, it's a little disgusting!"

And by the way Nat, your attempt to defend Tommy boy is pretty poorly written and hard to understand. What on earth are you talking about??? Have you been taking the same stuff the Tomster has?

You have a problem actually.
Keep insult me, if you love it.
I wish you the best in your life.
:D c'est sincère, je suis aussi sincère que toi, bon vent.

ah, the French are truly hilarious. I'm willing to give you a pass on your english (since I can't claim to know any French at all), but your sentiments regarding Tom gave me a hearty chuckle to start my day.

Tom Cruise looks like he's ready to attack Oprah.

Ye gods, it was painful watching him overact to death on the show.

Now we see why Tom doesn't have an Oscar.

And Nat - if you don't like it, go elsewhere. It's pretty rude to say "fuck Mimi Rogers!" in a public forum. What you said is much more rude than what anyone else said in this thread.

It's not a good idea to use words like "fuck" until your English is better.

And what do you mean in the French sentence at the end? Did anyone call you insincere? Hello Hypocrite correctly criticized YOUR rude statements.

I think Tom needs to lay off those "special vitamins"

HAHAHAHAHA!
Uh, he also called "Dawson's Creek" "Dawson Creek" on Access Hollywood when asked to prove that he was familiar with K. Holmes' work. This was in an interview that made Billy Bush seem like a reasonable, logical, hard-hitting journalist. I hope for the sake of everyone's stomach lining, they didn't see it!
I am THROUGH the looking glass!!!

unfortunately i did see the b.bush "interview" i say that b/c it was more of a cruise crack licking session. where cruise has gotten pretty good at running his mouth without really answering any questions. one quest. he asked about scientology tom began to answer, and billy was trying to add more to the quest. and tom just cut him off with some of his crazy laughing. i think people are prolly a little afraid of him. i mean look how good oprah was trying to make him look and he "mauled" her, imagine if he was actually mad at her. BOTH- interviews were really disturbing and i hope someone will set his ass straight.

tom cruise is a straight male in love with a straight female, with whom he has passionate, intentional sex on a nightly basis.

....

relatedly, i am a 6'4" norwegian lesbian named Agnete and i love my red meat quite rare.

pye
not a friend of dorothy...

p.s. tom cruise is as "in love" as CAA and PMK (or Pat Kingsley's replacement) need him to be right about now.

p.p.s. those screaming debutantes in oprah's audience all share one brain....yes, oprah's.

Say whatever you want about Tom's appearance on Oprah's show...

...but there's no denying that his acting on Oprah was better than it was in "Collateral".

Tom Cruise is how old? 8?? OMG! I felt soo bad for Katie Holmes. She looked so embarassed by his antics. Did anyone see the look he had when he was asked about asking Katie to marry him? Then the forced kiss? Geesh, that said it all. This is a sham!

Him jumping up and down on the couch confirmed this sham and made him look like he was on some serious "vitamins". Brooke Shields needs to come out and smack some sense into him!

I'm soo disgusted with this publicity stunt and his crazy antics that the thought of paying $$ to see his or Katie's movies this summer makes me sick. The Oprah show was pathetic. This whole thing is pathetic and I WAS a Tom Cruise fan. C'est la vie!

Oprah was right. He has LOST IT! Just because he's dating a young adult (practically still a teenager herself) doesn't mean he has to act like one. For crying out loud, he's a grown man of 43!!!!!

I think we should all support Katie Holmes and buy one of those "FREE KATIE" t-shirts or caps. Maybe if enough people wear it, she will see us and know that she doesn't have to stay on board with all this craziness. (For heaven's sake, he was practically assaulting Oprah!) Jump ship, Katie!!! The Cruise isn't worth it. Mimi, Nic, and Penelope found the courage to jump out. You can, too!

She needs all the help she can get!!!

Poor thing ~ It's like watching your daughter being tortured by Tom's insanity! I don't care how goodlooking, rich and famous he is. He's looks freakin crazy in this video clip.

FREE KATIE! FREE KATIE! FREE KATIE!

Can we sign a petition and send it to him??

Jeezus ,I never got the whole Cruise thing anyway. Come out and get it over with.Dont wait for "National Coming Day",do it now, before a talk show really does get hurt.

IndianJones - Australians don't have Oprah???!! Um, yeah, we do, EVERY DAY! Chanel 10, 2pm. Please don't make us sound like filthy country bumpkin rednecks who don't have TV & ride around on kangaroos all day...

Give that man an Oscar...Meyer weiner up the wazoo.

Guten Tag --

Tom is right on target -- psychiatry is rather unnecessary except for the most crazed portion of society. Only the most severely mentally-ill should be heavily medicated; 99% of the people on psychiatric drugs right now are being ripped-off, both financially and emotionally. They are simply being drained by a system seeking to exploit them --

But the drug companies make TONS of money so do you think they are going to tell you that you can solve MOST (not ALL) of your problems by becoming more physically, emotionally, and spiritually aware? No, no, NO WAY -- and the individual psychiatrists get major kickbacks from the drug companies depending on the volume of the drugs that they prescribe from the particular company that is courting them. Yes, a wonderfully “healing” system we have here in America --

Does a 6 year old need extremely powerful mind-altering drugs to be "normal"? The answer is: HELL NO! And neither does a 20 or 30 or 40 or 50 year old -- they need to fix their eating habits, exercise, flex their mental and emotional muscles, and become more spiritually aware (choose your own religion don’t just accept the status quo!) in order to become healthier, happier, more productive citizens. People need to be creative and active instead of passively sitting in front of their TV sets waiting for something exciting to happen, all the while wasting away both their intellectual capacity and their innate vivaciousness.

No wonder our society is so full of depressed people -- eating shitty food all day long and sitting on your ass all plump and lazy doesn't exactly leave one feeling excited and thrilled about life. It leaves one exhausted and bored and prone to neurosis of all kinds. And the cycle continues and will forever continue until they perish; over the years they become even worse, their bodies and minds toxic with the negativity of a superficial society obsessed with the surface -- and they have bought in to it -- they have been FORCED to buy in to it.

Mr. Cruise is just so full of vivacity, charisma, and life that ordinary (i.e. medicated) people resent that -- they can only achieve such ecstatic and super-happy states under the influence of various chemicals and drugs. And even then it is forced; not real, aberrant and fleeting as the state has been falsely induced.

But Mr. Cruise has discovered how to tap into the most powerful "drugs" of all-time -- the natural chemicals of the brain that surpass everything and anything some gray, bleak lab can come up with. In short, he is a person who has truly found “his Light.” People are a bit scared or creeped out by Mr. Cruise because in him you can glimpse a bit of the “Divine Spark” that is within ALL of us -- it isn’t limited to movie stars or sports giants. He is no better than anyone else, it’s only that he has worked on himself in order to make it this far; though some of his success is surely due to good-luck. Nay, the “Divine Spark” is inborn and in my opinion the whole purpose of a human life is to try and find this part of us that is so sparkling and effervescent and positive and charismatic. The sad part is that so many people’s “Spark” just never reaches the surface…covered up as it is by greed and drugs and ego and laziness and all of the other negative manifestations of a society gone awry.

Happiness breeds happiness breeds MORE happiness -- find out for yourself, on your own, without the "help" of your beloved anti-depressants.

I am NOT some dumbass born-again Christian who goes around very fake-like trying to convert them to “Christ’s Way” -- you all know who I’m talking about, those people with the creepy fake smiles. Nor am I a bizarre Scientologist claiming that mere vitamins will cure all of your worldly woes. But I really do want to help other people pull themselves out of this negative psychiatric pit before they get in too deep and are beyond help.

But you can only help yourself, yes you and you alone -- it is your choice rather you want to keep on living like you are instead of facing life with the courage and vitality necessary to do and think and say great things.

Take It Easy -- tschuess!

Adam

sorry veroniqua--I didn't realize Oprah aired here (I'm just in Sydney temporarily-originally from the US).

Plus I'm at work during the day, and by the time I get home the only thing on TV is 3 month old episodes of Desperate Housewives and Lost. Although I do enjoy Big Brother and the Footy Show.

To quote Barney Fife..."He's a nut!"

Ya, Barney was calling Ernest T. Bass (Howard Morris, the actor who played Bass, just passed away this week) a nut - but it applies to Tom as well.

Here he is a "young" famous movie star, and he can't keep a woman. From red hot Mimi Rogers, to Nicole, to Penelope, to Katie - and whoever in between - women obviously do NOT want to spend a long time with him.

This must drive him crazy, so he's in denial about his massive depression. In fact he's acting so wild and wacky lately (why won't he just SHUT UP, already?!) that he'd better PRAY that he's gay!

Actually, I take that back - to call Cruise's recent eratic behavior "gay" is to insult gays.

Conclusion: We'll probably find his body floating in Lake Hudson next month. And the media mokes will all say "Gee, we don't know what happened - he seemed so happy!"

Adam,

You are talking out of your ass. You, Cruise, and every other "psychs are evil" cultist have no idea how doctors work. They do not dispense meds like candy, no matter how much you wish this fantasy to be true to justify your rants. Nor is every child put on meds. It's a case by case situation. And courage, divine spark, or whatever other high-minded phrase you want to concoct does nothing to ease the pain of someone in need of clinical support. It's like telling someone with a broken arm they can heal themselves just by thinking good thoughts and vitamins.

...Nor do physicians receive 'kickbacks' from drug companies - I'm in medical advertising - I can assure you your statement is frivolus at best and a bald faced fallacy at worst.

Bearing false witness and all that.

Tom Cruise is an absurdity. Poor Katie Holmes for getting sucked into his PR fueled madness.

Gee, whenever I meet a woman who causes me to bust out with gestures of unbridled giddiness I get slapped with a restraining order and then wrapped up in canvas and shot up with sedatives. What's his secret?

Cazimi360 and Nat need to go find a hole together....each other's. It's so sad when people are still under the false notion that physical medicine is more important than mental. Like Ken said above, next time you break your arm I would like the doctor to send you on your way with a pat on the back and tell you to take your vitamins, eat right, live right, and it will heal on its own. Sure it will! All twisted and potentially in a million pieces, but hey! That's a minor detail. Heaven forbid, people need medication (not SweetTarts) to heal the breaks within their minds.

Good gods. Tom Cruise is trying SO HARD to act heterosexual it's rather disgusting. And also prtetty damn sad. I feel very sorry for Ms. Holmes having agreed (for whatever reasons) to put up with this sham.

Is Cruise really fracking *INSANE* (driven that way by Sciewntology thought reform and mind control ("brainwashing")), or is he merely pretending to be barking mad?

Eithjer way, Cruise needs to be medicated and watched. If he continues with the same behavior he has shown in the past year or so, I fear he will start actively injuring people and himself. He appears to belong in a padded cell.

To Cruise: a fine example of what happens to people when their are taken over by Scientology and Scientology Inc. Let him be a warning to everyone: if you purchase some Scientology, this could happen to you!!!

I never thought he was gay until this whole totally made up 'romance' with Katie Holmes came along. Now I think he's either gay or a Troy McClure-style fish-fetishist.

Cazimi360 - anyone who believes that Tom Cruise is a truly happy person full of vivacity is totally naive. Regardless of what anyone thinks of Scientology, it's clear that he seems like a completely lost soul who somehow thinks he can fill the void in his life by converting others.

Anyway, I enjoy hearing the easy logic of "people who sit around and eat crappy food get depressed". It's that simplistic, uninformed, seemingly sensical thought process that makes things like racism thrive. Yay!

Ya it is pretty crazy. I like the guy though. I think the world would be a better place if more people were living out loud and fewer people were scared to be made fun of.

Hey --

Most of you people didn't read my post closely enough, typical of modern Americans who can barely read.

Goddamn, of course a positive attitude and vitamins isn't going to cure a broken-arm or diabetes or AIDS anything like that -- what I and Mr. Cruise are talking about is PSYCHIATRIC DRUGS, and those alone.

I am NOT talking about taking away people's insulin or chemotherapy or medicines used to treat basically anything that is of PHYSICAL origin; I am solely referring to mind-altering drugs, drugs which are so powerful yet prescribed so routinely it is almost like giving a little kid some candy.

These medications are so over-prescribed it makes me sick and very sad -- this America is a great nation with so much potential yet every time an American gets on one (or four) of these psych-drugs the national IQ dips another notch...and usually they are hit-and-miss. Many patients have to go through absurd "trials" as they call it, going on one drug, and then coming off of it when the side effects are too severe or it's not "working." I know people who have been put on dozens of various drugs trying to find the right combination as they like to call it, a "cocktail"...it's a ghastly process and deeply disturbing.

But also, like I said, in very severe cases psychiatric drugs are perfectly acceptable; but 99 out of a 100 people truly have it within themselves to beat their depression without the help of these "sheep pills," as I like to call them.

A good discussion, (lets try and keep it quasi-civil please!)

Adam

Adam, this is not a forum for your Scientology propaganda. You're not going to convert anyone here.

Cazimi -
I think you could have clarified your original statement without the insulting remarks.
"...typical of modern Americans who can barely read"? And then you have the nerve to say, "...let's try and keep it quasi-civil please!"?
I can see the point you're making. I remember 15 years ago when many of these drugs were still brand new and watching my younger brother go from one to the next trying to find "the right combination" (as you said).
But I also know that I am not a doctor, and (more importantly) I am not the one with mental, emotional or psychological problems. I am not the one who has to make that choice (thank God) and I don't criticize anyone who is placed in that position.
It is very easy for someone like Cruise (or probably even you) to say, "Hey all you need is a strong Spiritual belief." The problem is that the last couple of generations (as a whole) have been denied a "Spiritual upbringing". I don't want to fall into the trap of sounding preachy here 'cause I hate it when other people do it... but I really think we made a wrong turn somewhere when we said we weren't going to impose any religious beliefs on our children... that we would simply "let them decide" when they got older. The problem with that is no one has a base to draw from when they do get older. No one has an example to look at and say this works or doesn't work for me.
Anyway, I guess I just wanted to say that you should probably wait until you have to deal with a situation before you criticize someone else about the way they choose to handle it.

He is acting like a lil girl. Maybe Katie is the man in that relationship, that will work 4 Tom

I swear to God, I am SO re-enacting this on my wedding day ...

Fight the power, Cruise!

Well this just proves it: "Stupid is, as Stupid does." I think it would be so totally funny if everyone decided to boycott seeing Tom Holmes', er Cruise's new film "War of the Worlds" till he admits he is gay.
In the words of Jerry Maguire "Who's coming with me?"

he doesn't care, eh? he's getting paid so much to act like an idiot, he can get any girl he wants, he doesn't give a fuck of what everybody thinks of him, he's getting paid to entertain a public, and at the same time he's getting publicity

Well, the guy is clearly out of touch with everything. Who can look up to this image of a grown man jumping up and down like a 3 year old on crack? Be a man Tom, Jesus.

What's with all the sympathy for Holmes? If it is a sham relationship I'm sure her publicist told her what to expect.

She seems to be doing ok from this relationship herself.

wow, i dont know whos crazier. You guys or Tom.
honestly, who gives a F**K about Tom Cruise.... why is it so important to bash him? i dont get it.
are you all his greatest fans or something? i dont even know why this has so many posts?
aren't you all going to see War of the worlds? probably so right?
hahahahahah

obviously he is promoting his movie.
thats what actors do........ it happens all the time...........

the big deal is the age difference right?
well, wouldnt you think someone would know themselves by 27(Katie holmes)?
if this was happening when he was 33, and she was 17 that would be different.
this is not the past though, and she is well "of age".

i would hope all that "oh she's/he's too young" talk stops when someone becomes an adult right?
she is over 21, and then some. Oh, but she doesnt know what shes doing? stupid little girl..............

there are much bigger "fish to fry"

great job with spending your time wisely B-Side.

Guster is very "gay".

=)

ha ha

Adam, your post makes total sense to those who aren't themselves brainwashed by TV culture and bigbusiness pharmaceutical advertising. (I think deep down we all know that "brainwashing" is pervasive in many arenas, not just religion/sprituality) It seems to me that 85% of people on psych meds needn't be on them. They do need some form of treatment though, definitely. Thanks for writing some sober thoughts.

*At the same time*, Tom Cruise himself looks to be at the height of a manic stage right now - as in Manic Depression. This is just a gut, intuitive feeling. Frankly, I hope my sense here is wrong, since everyone deserves to be happy and find their own peace and mode of personal expression (even a "hyperactive" one).

Cruise's comments about Brooke Shield's post-partum depression were completely inappropriate, yet not surprising.

The Church of Scientology has an anti-psychiatry exhibit entitled "Psychiatry Kills" on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood (the organization that sponsors it goes by another name--it has "Human Rights" in its title).

Anyway, the mailing included profiles of "victims" of psychiatrists and prescription drugs--Judy Garland, Francis Farmer (who had a lobotomy)--and, get this, there is also mention of Nazi psychiatrists conducting experiments in concentration camps!

Scientology is against psychiatry because whether people want to believe it or not, the goal of psychiatric treatment is to stabilize an individual's mental health--to discover the root of their problem (if one exists) and treat that problem through therapy and in some instances, medication.
A psychiatrist's primary concern is his or her patient. When treatment is successful, an individual can then resume his or her life.

But Scientology doesn't want its members to ever reach that point of stability -- because their religion is all about teaching people how to take control of their lives. Unfortunately, in the process, they make its members dependent on the church (which is ironic, we are going to help you think for yourself, but to do that you need to keep them in their lives).

Do you have any idea how much $$ these celebrities are handing over to this church???

Anyone who believes that medically prescribed drugs do not have ANY benefits are absolutely off their rag. My brother is Schizophrenic and I can tell you, I have seen him off the drugs and on, and any sanctimonious bastard who tells me that he could just "believe" his illness away is utterly ignorant. Depression, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, bi-polar disorder etc. are effectively treated with drugs every day. I would love to see Tom Cruise encounter someone like my brother, who has had a chance to live his life normally because of his prescribed drugs, and tell them to give them up and take their vitamins. These drugs give so many people, whose lives would otherwise revolve around their illnesses, a chance to live life normally, in an uncomplicated manner. How dare he criticize Brooke Shields the way he did? It was both grossly inappropriate, and nauseatingly sanctimonious. And I would prefer not to take any preaching from some schmuck with a ninth grade education thank you very much. Gee, ninth grade dropout crap actor, or a University educated medical doctor? Who to listen to?
And as for that clip, that was just embarrassing. I actually felt uncomfortable. I couldn't finish it. The man is bending over backwards to prove that he doesn't bend over forwards.

Wow. Just, well, wow.

He seems manic, and I know people keep saying that, but he really just does. I am manic depressive and I also know some others with the same diagnosis. I've seen manic people, is what I'm sayin' here, and he fucking well seems manic. I can't wait to see the crash, in some kind of sick and twisted way. But I'm sick and twisted with my psych drugs, and belief in psychiatry, and even though I've kept myself alive with it, I'm just wrong and mis-guided. Scientologists remind me of fundies of all stripes, except with better clothes and hair.

ps--awesome job with the montage! love the music! Thanks.

"It seems to me that 85% of people of psych meds needn't be on them."

So tell me... did it hurt when you pulled that number out of your ass?

If Tom Cruise found happiness through Scientology, good for him. But I have no patience for anyone who suggests that his way is the only way. Normally I try to respect a person's beliefs, but Tom Cruise is an asshole. I find that people who speak in absolutes generally have no idea what the hell they're talking about.

I spent almost ten years horribly depressed because I thought going to a psychiatrist was a sign of weakness. I tried everything I could think of (including reading “Dianetics” and speaking to Scientologists) to overcome my depression. It wasn’t until I seriously began to contemplate suicide that I finally went to a “doctor of the mind.”

The doctor never mentioned putting me on any kind of medication. After about three months I began to understand what my problems were. In less than a year I was a truly happy person with a handle on his emotions.

The “Church” of Scientology doesn’t want anything to do with you if you can’t pay for for its services. The only reason they call themselves a Church is because they want to claim tax-exempt status.

I think the only reason Tom Cruise is so into Scientology is because they broke him of his urge to suck dick.

Brooke Shields was brave enough to tell America that she had a fertility problem and had 7 attempts at in vitro before having a baby. She then wanted to kill herself after becoming a mother. Although our society may over prescribe meds--not everyone should be categorically defined in these terms. Definately not a woman who tried this hard to get pregnant...doesn't that prove to the "little science boy" that there may be something to this whole "brain chemistry thing." Mr. Cruise, be happy that your dyslexia turned out so well for you and just shut-up and sit down....please.

My lord, you people are a sad bunch of
f%*&@rs.

Tom Cruise, is just an ordinary guy, what's wrong with all your lives that you need to judge his with such contempt and scrutiny? it makes me sick to know that this post has gone this far. Why can't he be scream 'love' on Oprah?

And the one who made the video? what you want a pat on the back? I call it penis envy.
He shits, he cheats on his wife and he probably gets drunk, but hey don't we all?

get a grip people.

Tom Cruise is a youthful 43, and if I were sleeping with Katie Holmes I'd be bouncing off the walls too.

This may be a silly question but I heard Tom Cruise say that they wanted to put him on psych drugs for his dyslexia when he was seven. I have never heard of using drugs for dyslexia. Has anyone else here, or is he just blowing smoke?

Okko--

Psych drugs may have been recommended in Cruise's case if his dyslexia was accompanied by other problems/behaviors. Many kids with undiagnosed or untreated (and I don't necessarily mean meds--therapy and learning new ways to process info can be the most helpful) exhibit anxiety, depression (they think they're dumb losers), OCD-like behaviors and other stuff that can seem like ADD or ADHD. However, I cannot imagine meds to treat dyslexia or what they would be. This is all just off the cuff and instinct, though--I haven't done any research on dsylexia and meds. I'm basing this on my knowledge of psych disorders and (admittedly, vague) knowledge of learning disabilities.

If he was child when this medication was suggested, that would have been in what? the 1960's or '70's, I think. I'm not sure how old he is. That is a long time ago as far as treatment for learning problems goes. Were educators and docs even really aware of dyslexia at that time? Anyone know?

The Oprah appearance was outrageous. Tommy boy obviously lives in a fantasy land as strange as Michael Jackson's neverland. How long has it been rumored that Tom Cruise is gay? Remember years back when a gay porn star/male escort said in a published interview (I think in a gay magazine in Paris, France) that Tom Cruise was one of his former clients? Tom's lawyers were all over that INSTANTLY and under threat of a ten million dollar libel lawsuit the male whore had a retraction printed. Obvious. Tom Cruise is a multi-million dollar brand name being sold to the movie-going public. Any suggestion that Tom is homosexual is cause for alarm amongst his Hollywood handlers. What an uttter bore it must be to have to go out on public fake dates with starlets he has no interest in, and to have to have fake marriages for appearance sake. Richard Chamberlain in his recent auto-biography "Shattered Love: a Memoir" finally tells the truth of how difficult living a lie like that is. Tom's over the top screaming "I AM A HETEROSEXUAL" behavior is quite telling. The lady doth protest too much.

Nice use of Guster's "Center of Attention"! Very appropriate!

Someone need to tell T. Cruise that a man that is confident in his own sexuality does not feel the need to prove himself to others. But then he lives behind the curtain of the church of scientology, which feed only on its own propaganda, we can't expect him to get a clue about the real world. Now, as opposed to Cruise, Katie Holmes has all the information she needs to really learn what scientology is, it's widely exposed on the internet, so if she still joins the cult without researching, well maybe she deserves the future she will get.

Anti-depressants are prescribed like candy. Like Ms. Shields, I was suffering from post-partum depression. I called my OB to make an appointment for treatment and know what they did? The advice nurse told me they would call in a prescription for an anti-depressant and then I was to come in for a visit in six weeks. They didn't see me or ask me any questions, like was I nursing my baby. The "fix" was to put me on drugs. I was hesitant to go right to chemicals without trying to treat myself with other methods first.

Turns out my depression was being caused by sleep deprevation and all I needed was more sleep. After about one week of increased sleep (thanks hubby) I was my old self again. No, not every Mom who is depressed has depression caused by lack of sleep, but I bet I'm not the only out there who was affected this way. If drugs were used as the last line of defense instead of instant cure we all be a lot better off.

I have two friends, married to each other, who are on meds and I believe their problems are caused by their poor marriage. If they were to work on improving the marriage I know they would both be a lot happier. So now they eat their junk food (they don't like fruits or veggies), turn on their TV, gain weight and lose energy and don't communicate but it's all OK because they are medicated to the point of numbness.

These are the cases in which drugs shouldn't be the first option. Unfortunetly, these stories are far too common.

Quote:

I am NOT talking about taking away people's insulin or chemotherapy or medicines used to treat basically anything that is of PHYSICAL origin; I am solely referring to mind-altering drugs, drugs which are so powerful yet prescribed so routinely it is almost like giving a little kid some candy.

:Endquote

I hate to break it to you, pal, but the vast majority of psychological illnesses that have "mind-altering drugs" prescribed for them ARE a physical problem. Chemical imbalances, misfirings in the brain, etc. - These are not just fiction. There is plenty of well-documented medical research (not just studies of how people "feel" on med, but actual brain-imaging on and off medication) that very succinctly demonstrates this.

Yes, psychiatric ailments are overdiagnosed. In the managed-care world that we live in, health care professionals often don't have the time or permission from the insurance companies to do the kind of in-depth study into each case that we would like. However, this does not mean that there are not people with a genuine problem that can be resolved with medication.

Yes, some people who report psychiatric problems can resolve them by non-chemical means. But, it is unfair to all of the people in the world who suffer every day with psychological illnesses that stem from physical causes to unilaterally say that they are just not trying hard enough.

Try to have a little understanding and compassion for your fellow man, hm?

It isn't just psych drugs, other drugs are over-prescribed as well. When is the last time an M.D. asked anyone about diet or lifestyle? So Adam did have some points, but man, did he have to go and bash Christians? And then ask for a civil discussion to boot.

As someone who was burnt badly by a prescription drug, (followed by much reading on the topic), I do agree that there are 'kickbacks' for prescribing the flavor of the month drug (and there are a lot of new ones constantly coming out - very under-tested. FDA lets drug co's do their own tests now. Fox and henhouse?). It's not in cash form. But $1400 bottles of wine, cruises (no - not Tom LOL), trips to a 'seminar' in the Bahamas, etc. They even approach med students with free banquets full of food. It's a multi billion dollar industry. So I'm actually not against this call to look at all this over-medication a little closer. (I Do not feel though, that it's never appropriate and disagree that only one percent of people ever have to have psych drugs to get well. Sometimes the chemistry does need a jump-start.) I do think that meds-prescribing is often done in a lazy fashion. Especially since, in the past decade or so, drugs are rushed out and really under tested. I have also read of clinical trial data being suppressed. PBS website - one scientist was threatened with firing if he spoke up about animal deaths in a certain drug trial.

There are books by doctors talking about all this (secular books) - Death by Prescription, and Overdosed. The latter was written by an M.D. who was himself poisoned by a new class of antibiotic, called QUINOLONES. I also took a quinolone, much against my instinct but a Dr. had lied to me about a CAT Scan result being much worse than it was. I now feel my only prob was dehydration and worry. Anyway, he laughed when I asked about the side effects as I'd read a bit about it online first. He refused to give me a safer antibiotic.

Well MONTHS later I am still paying for it physically although very thankfully the mental side effects subsided. It can cause a type of 'toxic psychosis' - the stuff's poison (imagine drinking sea water, or a bad acid trip). Now - it does work for some people as it should (so poeple tell me), but, everyone's different. That it even CAN have this effect, to cripple people mentally and physically, it should only be Rx in life or death, last resort situations IMO. But, it isn't. Doctors see it as harmless. That's just ignorance.

It really is true that doctors get swag from drug co's. Take note next visit how many clipboards, kleenex boxes etc. he has with drug names on them. It may not be a good sign. There is even a group of doctors refusing this stuff - www.nofreelunch.org Would that exist if bribes never happened?

I don't know if it is the same with psych meds. But when I went in search of help w/the Cipro aftereffects, various M.D. shrinks wanted to put me on pills. I mean after a brief chat! I felt I could get things back in hand by willpower, and toughing it out and eventually I did. It was a few months of hell though, due to the extreme toxicity of the Cipro in my system. The worst part of all this is, people tend not to believe it's even possible to be harmed by a Rx drug. Now THAT is brainwashing. Some people's bodies do not metabolise these odd chemicals at all, and recognise it as the toxic foreign substance that it is. A small percent of people lack the liver enzyme to properly metabolise. (I tried to post some URLs but you can net search to find more info if curious). This is all backed up by lab research by the way, by an independent researcher. Quins can cause cellular changes, tissue necrosis, this is *in the Bayer info sheet*. Yet they're Rx for common maladies, not life or death. Clearly - again I'm a fan of balance - the situation is out of whack. We ARE a pill-happy society and I have to agree, there's a lot of legal drug-pushing going on, complete with 'free samples'. Once you see the underbelly of it, it makes you feel repulsed.

So - he does have a point that needs hearing (Adam & Tom both) about the 'knee jerk' Rx of drugs when often it's not needed or can even harm. (That anti depressants can cause suicide in some, has been written about since Prozac and other pills first came out). I've learned more about all this than I would've ever thought I wanted to know, since becoming a drug 'victim' myself. I do feel that for some things, drugs are necessary, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, psychosis of some types etc. I'm not an expert but I do believe that sometimes people are born with a mental disorder the same way they can be born with a physical one - and for that, drugs can help alleviate symptoms if nothing else.

But the stats on how many routine Dr visits end in an Rx of some kind - Doctors have gotten lazy, and office visits WAY too short. How can they diagnose you in ten minutes?! In my case, I should have never been given something so strong as Cipro. They commonly give it out for UTIs, and it can cause tendon rupture, neuropathies and nervous breakdowns. People have even commited suicide after taking it. It's a horrible, horrible drug. But I've read so many things since this happened to me, and it's not the only one. You don't even have to take a psych drug any more, to get psychological side effects or withdrawals from it. Read the fine print in a drug ad sometime - that stuff is from post marketing reports, not some badly done clinical trial.

All that aside - Adam, I felt you were rude. You didn't need to bash Christians or anyone else to make your point. I don't think anyone would've taken you for a fundamentalist anyway but you said "Christians" - I'm Catholic, and I resented it. Til then I was not in too much disagreement with you. Natalie, why did you also insult others to make your point? I don't understand that.

There does need to be more education about the harmful effects and over prescribing of Rx drugs, but it should be a multi group effort, and secular too, just so the word gets out. Drugs can help but they can also do a LOT of harm, and Doctors are the last checkpoint. Well really YOU are, but, if a person is lied to how do they protect themselves? IF they're in pain and their Dr. lies to them to get them to do what they want.

Tom does seem 'manic' to me in this clip. Nor do I feel this is how everyone would be if they weren't eating junk food and watching Tv. I have known of many who were just really calm. Gypsy Boots comes to mind. And while I love creative people and admire Tom's drive (which I know he's had a long time - I know someone who knew him when he was about 17 and starting out), I also love the idea of balance. If this is being 'clear' I don't think he will convince too many people it's good. I do really admire one thing about him and that is that he honored his gifts. Not many people do that, and we're all poorer for it.

I don't agree w/the Scientology belief though, that handicapped ("tone scale 2"?) people are not worthwhile. That's scary, especially as one who was crippled for some months by this poison & is still recovering. Falsely induced or not, it still gave me a good think about what it's like when the spirit is strong but the body is weakened. So I Don't like that type of snobbery. It can be dangerous. Remember the Nazi outlook on that! Round up 'surplus' and kill them. The Terri Schiavo case is another one that illustrates how Catholics and Scientologists disagree on the sanctity of ALL life. Also there was no way to KNOW she wanted to DIE especially that way (this is where I learned some of these things I'm saying about Scientology). Anyway...

Other than that, I actually
