This Is A Fon-DO -
by B-side
I didn't get time this week to recap MTV's '70s House, but that's not to say I didn't like it. The show is completely silly -- from its central conceit (the person who is the most "70s" wins) to its kooky hostess, Dawn -- but so light, wacky, and short that it's hard not to find it totally groovy, man. I enjoyed watching the eager contestants, weaned on years of funky Real World pads, react angrily to their '70s trappings -- a house which I thought was instantly cooler than any hot-tub infested reality show domicile of recent years. These kids seemed completely shocked by the decor. Haven't they ever visited an old person before? For shame! Also, the crappy van and old station wagon were great additions, as was the retro fondu party "reward" at which one spoiled kid balked: "This is a FON-DON'T!" I don't know. I think it's a-- well, you can read the headline.
What did you think?

I found the show to be pretty funny.
The setup is just different enough to be make you watch it. And the contestants...Don't write it off until you've watched it at least once

i thought it was horrible but i'm watching next week. they managed to find the least adaptable people on earth so their terrible attitudes are so funny. host is creepy but somehow the total mix is very funny. the black guy is my fav.

I'm IN..........this show is great. and hey who doesnt love "the hustle" playing in your head all day.....
I too found the decor to be very comforting and the clothes....oh I miss my holly hobby dresses & all that plaid.
and the final challenge was a round of operation. OH YES IM IN.

I think the best thing about 70s House is that everything about it is 100% completely normal in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2005. Seriously, a hipster would beat the hell out of the competition on this show.

Is fun.

I knew I had to watch this show simply because they had to do the hustle whenever the music came on. Seeing the clip of the kid having to get out of bed and groggily start going through the steps was enough to make me set my TiVo to make sure I didn't miss an episode.
It made me feel really old to watch the contestants reactions to their surroundings. I remember the time before the microwave and when the phones were rotary dial with cords.
Can't wait to see what they have to endure next week!

I thought this show was great...way funny. Dawn is very funny and the whole thing made me laugh. I wish the roomies got into it more- I mean the fondu party could have been a blast! Next week looks great how the kids have to go to a disco. HAHAHA

Loves it. It seems like fun. I like that they have it on after real world too.

I saw the repeat this afternoon.Had no idea what it was about when it started and got hooked.I was born in 75 and it made me stop and think about all the things we don't think twice about having that we use every day.So much better than watching That 70's Show.

the only thing that annoyed me was when one of the contestsants was describing a phone and he said somthing like" the phone had a cord and had the rotary dial" DUH! A lot of phones still have chords. not many phones have rotary dials, but i'm sure they've seen one. i was born in 86 and i still know what those phones looked like. the people on the show acted as if the 70's happened a century ago. yes thing have changed, but those people weren't born yesterday. i'm sure they knew what most of that stuff was.

Thank Goodness you are recaping this show! I wasn't even around in the 70's and I still loved it. I know everyone will disagree but I think this show is up there at the top with Big Brother, The Amazing Race, and Survivor. I thought I would be the only one whowould love this show.
btw: my favorite part was when it was the end of the show. The camera zooms out on the house. All of a sudden: da da da da da da... do the hustle. I may be psycho but that just made me laugh because I did not expect it.
One more thing: Is it just me or does that girl who I think wears the "brown tent dress" look like Mellisa Joan Hart? So does Alyssa from The Scholar.

I admit, I stayed up late to watch this on a super-hot summer night. It was interesting.
I was born in '76, and while too young to truly remember the 70s, I would so beat these young hipsters. Heck, if it was "the 80s house" I would Bill Rancic my way though all the other contestants.
I like how the losers were chosen based on stuff they said, ie modern day hip-hopish lingo.
Like the whole Charlie's Angels thing with the dictaphone downstairs. Also, vintage 70s vehicles are used to transport the contenders.
The host is a cutie.
Sadly, this show is more in tune with the 70s than the current run of That 70s Show episodes. I'll be in tune with this show.
Breaker breaker, good buddy.

Loved seeing them play Operation at the end. Next week I hope it's Battle Ship or Twister.

You guys are nuts! This show was not entertaining at all. Is it "real" reality TV??? I totally thought it was fake!

tv freak, i too thought the girl looked like melissa joan heart. i also was reminded of eliza dusku when i saw dawn, the host.
the show got on my nerves only b/c the contestants were just so stupid. who has never heard of fondue??

On the dodgball episode- it was entertaining, im glad the black guy,(pete?) got eliminated. he was keeping it TOO real. he was such a downer and too mean to ashley. ANyways sarah (the melisa joan lookalike did not get eliminated.) and that whiny REALLY whiny kid with the dark hair and a earing is so annoying(the same guy that said it was fon-dont) is complaining all the time---first the fondu, then the mimmes- haley said they were creepy and just like clowns - but retarded clowns. and now in the next car wash episode he almosts dies bc apparently washing cars is too difficult for him .. well that was my recap of the third episode since no one on this site seems to be doing n e more recaps latley... also i thought it was funny when that guy said that celebs in the 70s were lames as...#2 pencils.WELL CANT wait to see the next episode this show rocks-srry i mean groovy ... except the game show host (that guy with a tupae).. dawn is nice tho.
DAMN YOU OSCAR!!

Is Jami on this show the same girl who "won" the WB Superstar? I can't find an official cast list anywhere.
