Instead of watching Albert Clifford, and the rest of the Bayside High gang this morning, I decided to watch The Today Show.
I thought Meredith did really well. She's super laid back, and midly funny.
The feel of the show was light and upbeat, not like it was with Katie "Ice Queen" Couric.
I give meredith 3 and a half stars out of 5.

I have heard of Meredith Veira for years but have never watched her before this morning. I am a longtime Today viewer and my personal pick would have been an in-house promotion for Campbell Brown, who I think has at least some legit news cred, good chemistry with Lauer, and is adorable in a girl-next door kind of way. That being said, Viera did just fine. If it weren't for the duly noted two-octave drop (and a seemingly billion-dollar promotional campaign), I probably wouldn't have noticed that the highlighted-blond middle age chick being teased by Matt wasn't Katie for several weeks.

JasonR,
My mom tells me they offered the job to Campbell Brown, but she turned it down. She's used to be a reporter in my city, so she would have been a nice pick as well.
Annnnnnnd I just aged 20 years.

Personally, I'm just glad that I never have to see one of the freakin promos ever again.
I stopped watching the Today show when Katie took over. Not sure what it is about her but every time I see I want to kick her in the face. Maybe it's just me.

Oh, believe me, mountain_girl, it ain't just you. I stopped watching Today about a year after Perky--ummmm, I mean, Katie joined the show. And I never did watch the CBS Evening News, so I ain't losin nothin there. I'm not all that crazy about Meredith, but she has at least one thing going for her in my opinion--SHE AIN'T KATIE.
Hmmmmmm, maybe I WILL start watching the Today show again.

Hopefully, we'll get an NBC Vieirabot soon.
Until then... Early Show for me.

Early Show Rocks! Thank you Mark. I beleive we are the only 2 in the US who watch it.
BTW, I really somehow got attached to Bob Schieffer...he was old, but seemed really grounded and said some extremely funny things.
Katie sucks. She says it's going to be hard hitting, but today's 'news' is that it would have been the Kennedy's 50th anniversary.
*sigh* Go away, Katie. My mother even gets up and changes the channel when you're on!

Helenann-> wasn't Bob Schieffer the best?! It was like my grandfather was doing the news for a year. I always liked at the end of the show when they would show the "feel good" or "oddball" piece and Bob would have that look on his face and be trying not to laugh when they would go back to him. Oh Bob, I miss you so!

I don't get it. Were we watching the same show? I thought Vierra was horrible. Inappropriate groping of Matt and cracks about his hot abs in the first ten minutes of her debut... calling Roker a hamster (why oh why did she say that?!)... and screwing up her first send off to a commercial break (Meredith, you should have been practicing). You might call it nerves - I found her to be incredibly unprofessional. I thought promoting Natalie Morales (if Campbell Brown turned it down) would have been a much better choice.

Hey joeypotter (Post#11) I watched the same show as you and feel the exact same. Matt was wonderful (as always) but Meredith was just a mess. She will make for great tvgasms, but not great news.
I do like Natalie Morales but there is something about Campbell Brown I can't stand. Love Ann, she would of been the best choice since Katie had to leave.
I miss Katie.

MrsC (#12), Ann Curry is a babe and seems like a genuinely great and likeable human being, but her interviews are AWFUL. I think she has hit the ceiling at reading the news and fill-in work. Natalie Morales is pretty good, but reminds me of Mrs. Schwartzeneggar back in the day .. . a little too good looking to be doing the news. It becomes a distraction when the anchor is too good looking.

JasonR (#13): Wow! You are spot on! Natalie DOES look like Maria Shriver! I bet that haunts her now and again.

I like her. I thought she did very well. I used to watch her on "The View" and I enjoyed her a lot on there. And from what I've seen on "The View", she's really funny and raunchy!

I'm a longtime Today Show fan but I agree with those of you who said Meredith was inappropriate. Talking about sitting next to the cute guy and then showing the photo of Matt's abs. That's weird. Did she say "Hubba hubba" or something like that? I didn't see the whole show but watched the highlight reel they played at the end. She seemed to be very wacky throughout the entire show. I hope they tell her to cool her jets. She's acting like she is at a co-ed college after being at a girls school all her life (The View).

I'm another Early Show fan, gotta get my daily dose of Chen.
And I miss Bob Schieffer he was really a comforting presence to deliver the news. I find I listen more than watch and Katie has a really awful voice.
And Megolopolis #10, I too loved Bob's reaction to human interast stories. Did you see a week or two ago when he was commenting on that guy with the Monocle. It was so cute watch him crack up over it.
