Come On Baby Light My Fire -
by B-side
Anyway, it was time for the challenge. It was pretty simple. Both of them would have to start a fire. The first one to get their flames high enough to light their torch would win. Steph expressed extreme doubt at her abilities to make fire (come on Burnett, you're being too obvious now), but sure enough, after a slow start, she built up quite the inferno by adding lots of stringy stuff. Probst praised her progress, cheering that she was "using your brains." Bobby Jon then looked up and asked, "Brains? What in the hell is you talkin' about? Is that somethin' I have too?"
Sure enough, Steph managed to light her torch, and with great excitement, Probst declared her the victor. You could tell he was really into it because when the cameras cut to him, he had his hands up over his and a big Probst smile on his face. Aww... The Probst is excited!
You know, it's sad seeing Bobby Jon go. He was always earnest and did mean well. As he departed, he let us know that Stephenie was a strong, respectable player. "The girl's almost invincible," he said. Well, except for that glaring string of losses, but yeah, whatever you say. Let's see how she fares all by herself...

I feel like the show should be over now. I don't feel like watching six more weeks of this without Bobby Jon. I'm guessing there will never be a merge. Steph will go up against Koror this week for immunity, and she will lose for lose she must. Then Koror will immediately pick off Tom and Ian, and then all the people desrving of the win will be eliminated, and we'll be left with a final two of Coby and Janu. Yuck.
Unless...Steph goes up against Tom for immunity, he throws the challenge so she can remain in the game and Koror votes off one of the worthless females. Imagine if she actually wins immunity without anyone throwing the game. What does that say about the rest of Ulong? (Nothing we didn't already know, yes, but that would be painful confirmation.) They should hang their heads in shame watching this every week.
I wish Bobby Jon had made it to the final nine so he could be on the jury. Then he would still be on the show every week, and I would feel like I still had a reason to watch. Sigh.

Did anyone else notice the look Bobby John gave Tom when he lost the reward challenge? He looked ready to rip out Tom's throat with two fingers.

"But I would make Katie swing on a vine for a few hours, just to see her flop into a tree or a boulder again."
I laughed out loud reading this line. Sitting in my office picturing her smacking against that big log over and over again.
And I actually predicted that they would have an immunity challenge between BJ and Steph last week. I also said it would be some form of the old stand by fire building competition, and that Steph would win. These were my predictions when everyone else was saying they had to merge the tribes. Where are my accolades? :-)

The look BJ gave Tom was really scary- I bet Stephanie is glad he's gone!

Hey Rick, I read the spoilers and knew what was going to happen, too (they've been out there since the start of the show -- detailed ones, too) but I at least honored the staff's request to keep spoilers out of discussions on the site. I did like how you tried to dress it up as speculation, though. Nice job on that one. :)

I'm a bad, bad, bad person, and the Union will probably retract my membership for this, but I was rolling my eyes and snickering during Coby's little pity party.
I don't know what high school Coby attended, but, surely, there were some popular girls he could have hung with and made bitchy comments with. It got me through high school just fine.

Now that Steph the Man has rid herself of the dead weight that was Bobby Jon, I think that she'll say, "Screw you guys, I'm going home."...and promptly pick up the island, throw it on her mighty shoulders, and swim it to the mainland.

I had no idea that Survivor had a special effects team on hand until I saw the spray from BJ's Indian noseblow come out with such Monty Pythonesque panache. The three-quarter camera angle from behind...the glorious backlighting...bravo!

yeah, b-side--that line about katie swinging from the vine was one of your best in recent weeks.
i thought tom was right about the water--they should save as much as possible and then if there's enough left over, they can shower towards the end of the game. they can still use the soap and get fairly clean with the well water. there's no point in playing nice, since he already knows he's the big target for everyone but his alliance partners, who will also likely dump him the first chance they get rather than risk facing him in the final 2.
poor bobby jesus. he didn't even clock his full 40 days in the wilderness. last i heard he was wandering around south alabama trying to talk off-shore oil-riggers into becoming 'fishers of men.'
mark burnett is a true evil genius. finally, he figured out how to give us something we haven't seen before. i'm looking forward to watching steph crack up this week trying to keep up camp by herself. you know the camera crew is going to be out in the woods at night making odd grunting noises. but if there's anyone on this show (besides tom and ian) who is tough enough to hack it, it's got to be steph. she doesn't seem exceptionally bright, but she is the lebron james of survivor--a great player stuck on a crap team (unfortunately, steph didn't get lebron's salary, signing bonus, or endorsement contracts). i hope she makes it to the final 4.

I didn't read a spoiler that said this, so if it ends up happening, please don't think I was breaking the rules about spoilers: I think that Steph will hang around a bit longer. I don't think she'll win the whole thing, but I think she'll go farther than a single member of a tribe logically should. Koror hasn't had to vote anyone off (other than the contrived you-won-but-vote-anyway week) so their alliances haven't been tested yet. Anyone who is smart, and we know some of those people are, is looking for a way to add strength to their voting block. Steph is useful that way. And we know Tom and Ian want her around.

Sorry Papercuts, but I don't read any spoilers. My prediction for the immunity challenge was just that a prediction. Notice I did get part of it wrong, I thought that Steph would go to the other tribe after she won immunity and BJ left. But anyway, you don't have to believe me.

So, normaly I wouldn't like a girl like Steph but I think she kicks ass! She was better than every guy on her team. I think if anyone deserves to win this year I think it should be Steph. And I have to give props to any girl who can stay alone on an island over night by herself. And I know there are camera men there and stuff but they can't help her with anything.

I'd be taking a shower with that water they won. Like they can't just continue boiling the other water to drink? What else do they have to do all damn day?

I thought with Coby's comments about hating the women on his tribe, that he would throw the immunity challenge so they could finally vote someone off. The way he was swimming out to get the puzzle pieces... it was so slow, so deliberate, so... gay. :)

Rictus of sadism. Nice...

I wanted to like Coby, but I just can't. From his "I'm a feminist...so I want to throw all the women in the fire" to his constant complaining that Tom and Ian get too much credit for working hard (usually delivered when Tom and Ian are out working while Coby is sitting around complaining, of course) to his growing cattiness that is often aimed at people who weren't doing anything wrong, I'm sick of him.

Did Coby actually say that Jenn hasn't touched a single piece of wood? That joke writes itself.

"Unless America wants to see an uncoordinated grouch falling off pontoons and looking pained, I'll be enjoying the island life from my living room, thank you very much."
I most certainly want to see it!!
Great recap, as per usual.
