Anyway, Rashard, Wallace, and the G's were out at a party just before Christmas. Rashard was drunk, and on the way home, they hit a wino. Although there are a lot of things potential teams will look the other way for, vehicular manslaughter is not one of them, especially if you flee the scene of the crime. Wallace was under a lot of pressure not to talk, and so he decided to flee back to Neptune to avoid the heat. Do the right thing is not much more than an old Spike Lee joint to these guys I guess. If any of these guys had a conscience, or had watched Bonfire of the Vanities, they would have known that pretending it didn't happen doesn't mean it won't bite you in the ass. Indeed, later in the episode, a reporter from Chicago comes to ask Wallace a few questions. Once again, Wallace will have the chance to do the right thing.

I have to tell you that I was just a little bit shocked that Veronica wasn't a little more outraged with Wallace. You think that she would tell him to go to the authorities and such, but she barely noticed. I guess you could say that she has other things on her mind, like her lost boyfriend. The boat that Duncan bought was found at sea, and boarded by the coast guard, but they found only dirty diapers and some empty cans of spaghettios. Did Duncan finally go crazy and kill himself and his daughter? Not any more likely than he killed his own sister.

vm1-25-05cThe FBI is still convinced that Veronica is helping out Duncan, and they have good reason to be concerned. This whole time has been an elaborate ruse to convince everybody that she didn't know where Duncan was, including their very public breakup. Veronica is great getting people to think she is an innocent victim when she is really coordinating everything behind the scenes; just ask Troy Vangergraff. The stolen boat? All of that talk about loving Meg? The phone call originating from Big Bear where Veronica "argued" with Duncan to get him to come home? All apart of the bigger scheme. This whole time Duncan has been living in an apartment in Veronica's building that had been renovated.

For those of us wondering where the passion is in the Duncan/Veronica relationship, the scene where she sneaks into the apartment to see him does explain a lot. They kissed like the only thing that mattered was that they were there for each other. If you had been watching carefully, you might even have come to believe that Duncan has a pulse. It doesn't go very far in explaining how Meg's baby was holed up in that apartment and apparently never cried or how the FBI or Vincent Van Lowe could have missed Veronica buying up diapers and other supplies, but at least the baby was safe from the horrors the Mannings would have brought upon for being born out of wedlock. Veronica and Duncan are happy to see each other, but now that the FBI is distracted in Big Bear, the final part of the plan is to be completed. From this point on, e-mail, phone calls, and letters are forbidden. It might end their relationship, but it was what Meg would want, and they both believe they owed it to her.

So, where did Duncan go? The whole time the kidnapping investigation was going on, Sheriff Lamb thought that Duncan would go to Mexico, even though Veronica said Duncan hated Mexico. He had the border patrol on alert and searching every vehicle entering Mexico. When he heard the report of the stolen boat, he thought Duncan would be heading south. Then they got a hit on from Veronica's ATM from a restaurant. Knowing he was right, and wanting to head off the Feds, Lamb raced down there to follow that lead.

Veronica's ATM might have been in Mexico, but Veronica wasn't. The FBI was searching the Mars apartment. They started to figure out what Lamb mean at the beginning when he said that they have to watch out for her. While searching the apartment, the FBI found a place in Veronica's bathroom where she had hidden diapers and some other incriminating evidence, or they would have if it was not for Keith Mars. He had run out of toilet paper, went looking for some more in Veronica's room, and noticed her little hiding place. Immediately, he knew that Veronica had played him. Keith doesn't mind Veronica helping people, but this could literally ruin her life. Duncan has all the money and the lawyers in the world to protect him, so if they were caught she would likely take a lot of the blame. If they saw she was actively hampering the investigation, that likely means jail time.

Keith is hurt that Veronica played him. It was bad enough that she had lied about giving her mom her college money to go into rehab (rehab that LeAnn mars failed, btw), and whenever she puts herself in danger he gets protective. This was something else, and when Keith sees her, he tells her that he will always love her, but he may never be able to trust her again, no matter how well intentioned she may have been trying to save Meg's baby. Keith's world has fallen apart since Lily Kane was murdered, and although it has been picking up as of late with the book and that MILF girlfriend he has, he would not be able to survive without Veronica around. That being said, he wasn't going to feed his daughter to the FBI, and he covered up the evidence of Veronica's hiding spot, meaning the FBI search provided them no further clues on Duncan's whereabouts.
