Thank you Nick The Intern. . .
In the Summer of 2002, B-side and J-Unit sat down to watch Big Brother 3 in Los Angeles. Immediately, both of them were struck by the sheer magic of Julie Chen. While not the most talented reality show host around, her quirky mannerisms brought something new to the table. However, it was the way that she announced "But first" to the world with such verve and precision that endeared her to so many.
Since then, "But first" has become a pop culture phenomenon. TVgasm immortalized the "Chenbot" as she had come to be known, with a video montage of her signature statement. Eventually, Entertainment Weekly came to know "But First" and profiled Julie Chen as she accepted her role as "the Chenbot"
As the world sat down to watch the Chenbot work her magic for Big Brother 7 in 2006, we sat in shock as she failed to utter "But first" during the casting special in June or the premiere episode July 6th. We set up a petition and thanks to your enthusiastic response, Julie Chen said "But First" not once, but twice on July 13th.
Since that date, Julie Chen has gone on to further embrace her Chenbot persona. She admitted in an interview on Variety.com that she and her husband, CBS head Les Moonves, own several Chenbot mugs and she has started signing her correspondence with members of the Big Brother cast as "The Chenbot".
