John wakes up to Gavin in his bedroom staring at him sinisterly while still in his tux. Gavin says that Mary is going back to where she belongs and that Gavin had expected more from John. John says what Gavin does is not right. Gavin says all he does is fulfill needs and John didn’t fulfill his end of the bargain. It’s time to settle up. Hmm, where have we heard this before?
All of a sudden, hands and heads poke through the wall like they are trying to get out and we hear all kinds of moaning and carrying on. John screams but he is sucked into the wall to join all the other poor bastards in there.
Well, that’s one way to get rid of a rent-controlled tenant, I guess.
Jane wakes up suddenly and says “did you hear that?” But Henry is asleep. She goes into the hallway as someone or something we can’t identify passes by. She goes into the stairwell and the door locks behind her. She screams for Henry for a minute, but then looks down at what appears to me to be a lot of stairs for only being on the third floor. She can see someone’s arm trailing along the banister on the way down, but can’t tell who it is.
She starts to follow and ends up in basement where the mosaic looks brand new. The phantom door that was sealed up in her photo is also there. She opens it and it leads to the roof, apparently, even though she is in the basement. WTF? The woman is there, walking over to the ledge and it’s Zombie Mary. Jane recognizes her from the obit she read and calls out her. Mary says Jane shouldn’t have come there and warns that “they” are never going to let her go. Then she falls backward off the roof.
Jane freaks out, but then wakes up and realizes the whole thing was just a dream. Henry brings her coffee and she tells him she had crazy dreams all night. She says the place seems so dark but Henry says it’s just her guilty conscience telling her a light bulb needs to be changed somewhere. Henry mentions that Louise is in the hospital because of the demon elevator and Jane says they should go visit her. Then Henry says that their contracts are ready and they are expected up in the Dorans’ apartment that morning to sign them. As Jane gets out of bed, we see that her feet are dirty, as though she were traipsing around a haunted basement all night.
Up at the Dorans’, Gavin says the contracts are standard one-year “boilerplate” with an option for another year and also they have to sign an apartment lease.
