ANTM Recap: Yay or Neigh?

Kiara interviews about her hard life.  This is the first time I’m hearing about your hard life, Kiara.  I would have thought that you would have mentioned it at least 3 times in each episode, but no, no, this is the first I’ve heard of your hard life and how your grandma was there for you.  Also, I have to say that this surprised me:

Huh.

Laura calls her mom on the phone.  Laura’s mom is Australian?  Or South African?  Or just has an affected accent from rakin’ in all that sweet, sweet, “Dynasty” dough?

“I wish I could understand what you’re saying!”

Laura’s all stressed out.  Like all the girls.  I have to say, again, that these girls seem waaaaay more stressed out than the girls of all the other cycles.  Talking to her mom helps, but Laura interviews that she feels like she’s going to crack, but she can’t.  Credits.

The girls go to some Half Moon horse ranch.  Laura is excited because she grew up with horses that were bought with that sweet “Dynasty” money and she loves them.  Kiara does this hilarious interview where she’s like, “You have acres?  You have a pond?  Do YOU [pointing toward the camera] have a pond?  I don’t have a pond.  I don’t have horses.”  Horses!  Horses!

“Hahrses, hahrses, hahrses, hahrses!”

Horses!  Rob’s there along with Yendi Phillips who was Ms. Jamaica and Ms. Jamaican World and Ms. Dreadlocks Ganja Time Sponsored By Red Stripe.  Maybe not that last one.  But probably.  She also works with the Jamaican tourist board and today they’ll be filming the Cover Girl commercial!  Oh, what’s that?  I’m sorry?  Cover Girl is no longer a sponsor?  So, no classic Cover Girl commercial?  Okay, I’ll take a Smashbox commercial.  I’m sorry, what?  Smashbox isn’t doing an ANTM commercial because they’re too cheap and this cycle has the budget of a college sophomore shopping at the all-night Walmart at 2am?  Oh, okay.  Well, I’ll take a commercial for the Jamaican tourist board.  But I won’t like it, ANTM.  I will not like it.

“Ohhhh yaaaaaaayyy, I guess this’ll have to do . . .”

I’m pretty sure that this cycle required multiple reaction takes any time a challenge or prize or whatever was announced.  “Okay, guys, let’s do another reaction again and THIS time, be more excited.  Think about what it must have felt like for a girl on a REAL cycle of Top Model.  Okay.  Take 14.”  They have to write their own script and then do the commercial, Rob says, “on horseback.  In the ocean.”

“I didn’t know horses could breathe underwater!  Yay!”

Oh, Laura.  Laura, Laura, Laura.  And horses!  Horses!  Laura’s excited because she loves horses.  Leila’s not super excited; she’s not exactly afraid of horses, but the dolphin bitch-slapped her the other day, and she realized horses are big strong things that can kick you in the head and put you in a coma for 20 years until your parents finally take you off life support.  What?  It could happen.  It probably has.

Reason #83 why I hate Leila: she sounds like an idiot. “It’s im por en.” What the hell is “im por en?”

Obviously this episode was not brought to us by the letter “T.”

I would say her speech problem would keep her from a career, but it hasn’t stopped Lithpy who replaced Mr. Jay…

Also, the code below this is “save yourself.” Is the code advising me to stop watching this crap?

I’m with you, Hypnotoad. Horses scare the crap out of me. I’ll just look at pictures.

And I’m pretty sure the girl who flopped was Laura. The hair looked platinum and not the normal blonde that Leila has.

I haven’t seen the perfume in stores either. If I had I would have definitely taken a sniff of it. Isn’t Wal-Mart or Target suppose to be selling it?

I love horses! They really don’t do anything unless they’re frighten, which is the same with any animal. How can you resist those big sweet eyes?

I think it’s Laura who falls next week too. I hope it is.

I hope y’all are right! (Is that bad? That I hope someone else falls?) But to me, the show is so “theatrical” that it looks like Leila, given the body type and face-y . . . faceness. I hope I’m wrong!

That said, again, I bet Kiara wins this shiz. *sigh* I’m still upset that Nastasia went home over Laura.

“Dream Come True” is on Target.com for $21.99. Somebody buy it and try it for me! Please?! Not really . . . I bet it smells like cotton candy and over-confidence.

I meant that it looks like they gave Leila new hair color and crap and that her body and face, it looks like it’s her that falls. And junk. I hope I’m wrong.

I know I have seen that perfume at Target before, for anyone who wants to try it (good luck). Kiara’s pond comment made me laugh out loud. No, I don’t have a pond either. There’s one on my street, but it’s not mine and is only used by geese.

Wait, do they get the “money” put into their “bank” if they win a challenge or win best photo? I forget. If it is best photo, Kiara has 1, Laura has 3 and Leila has 1/1 (one before being elimated and 1 after returning). Natasia had 3. Looking at the winners for the whole season, it was always the top six (the four from this episode, and one a piece for Victoria and Kristin), which I find interesting.

So, my guess is Laura is going to go first simply because that would mean an extra 30,000 for her. She is also not a model. There is nothing special about her. Laura’s mom is Austrailian and her dad was the one on Dynasty and a couple of other soap operas more recently. Her fake crying was some of the worst I have seen on reality tv in a while. Her acting coach should be fired or at least tell her that holding-in-a-fart-face is not the same as crying-face.

One of the other reasons Laura is not a good model is that hedious white hair and brows they gave her. They really meesed up her hair it is the worst make over in this shows history and that is saying something. How much you want to bet she already dyed her hair back to the color it was before. Big deal about Jamaica i recall they had one photo shoot there in season 3 now with how crappy there budget is this is there over seas trip.

I think it’s Leila that takes the fall at the fashion show too. The outfit matched the one I think she was wearing and the body type too. Laura was shown wearing something big and white, looking like the stay puff marshmallow man from Ghostbusters. Hideous clothes.

I like Leila, but she talks so weird. Her voice is slightly irritating.

And, I liked Nastasia too. But for some reason in her talking heads, the way she spoke truly evoked a Sammi the Sweetheart (Jersey Shore) vibe. I think it’s the way she tilted her head back a little bit. I couldn’t stop seeing Sammi every time.

I liked what Leila said. It was funny and true. And, like I said, she could have said A LOT worse. She didn’t stoop to Kristin’s level (which, to be fair, would be pretty difficult for any human being with the tiniest amount of compassion), which was good.

I still think Leila’s the one who fell. The body type and face looked like her to me. Hope I’m wrong, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was her. And I’m fairly sure that Kiara will win this thing. Again, hope I’m wrong, but won’t be surprised. Her photo was probably the best of the bunch, I guess, but even so, it’s not a great photo by any means.

I don’t know why I care, though. This cycle took the polished turd that was ANTM and just made it a regular ole stinky turd.

“and the surprising lack of support she’s had from the show (and Tyra Banks) after her elimination.”

Am I missing something here? What support is missing? Do they make it a point to let these girls think they will be there forever? Does any of the other reality shows keep in touch with the non-winners? For someone who is so self made, why is she relying on Tyra or the show for help? Wasn’t she the one who claimed to be broke, but going to Aveda school?

Thanks for the link Hypnotoad. Again what a bullshit cycle as the cameras, Miss Jay and Tyra would have shown all the complaining Kristen did, taken her to task and probably sent her home letting her know no one wants to work with someone like that.

Destiny comes off very together in that interview. Isn’t it great that Kristin keeps claiming it’s the editing making her look that way, and then we read these comments . . . sigh . . . I so agree that ugly insides make the outside ugly, and in her case, she seems unable to even hide it . . .

I hate it when people are portrayed poorly on reality shows and then blame the editing, such a cliche. Every eliminated girl who has been interviewed says that the way Kristin was portrayed was exactly how she acted in real life, so I don’t know what she’s talking about.

I’ll miss Nastasia, she was one of my favorites. I think Leila’s going to win…..

Apparently they sell Dream Come True at Target, but I’ve never seen it in any of their stores.

@labowner, Destiny didn’t start talking about the “lack of support” from Tyra on her own, it was part of a question with regard to Jael and CariDee’s comments. She says she’s been working and getting work on her own or with some help from one of the show’s producers who liked her and offered to talk her up, so she’s hustling on her own, too.

Project Runway, American Idol and especially Top Chef find opportunities for their non-winners. They keep inviting past contestants, win or lose, to be a part of various cooking events and promote their endeavors. That doesn’t guarantee any kind of success but it’s not unheard of for reality shows to keep tabs on and promote other contestants beyond the winners. Plus CariDee won her season, and even she thinks Tyra just tosses the girls aside once she’s done with them.

Maybe if Tyra worked more closely with people in the industry to produce the show, and promote the girls who have real potential, it might not have been the joke it’s always been. At the very least she wouldn’t have given so many brunettes that ghastly platinum dye job or Mia Farrow cut. Especially since I explicitly remember on The Agency (yes, I watched that show) Sean Patterson from Wilhelmina refuse a job for a new model because the client wanted to dye her hair an unnatural color for the shoot and he feared it would impact her ability to book jobs for several months after that shoot and possibly kill any momentum she had. But does he say that when he appeared on ANTM? Nope, because Tyra doesn’t want real advice.

Hey…having a pond doesn’t necessarily = rich (although I’m sure it does in Laura’s case). I grew up on a farm and we had tons of ponds and some wild horses. But yeah…farmers are poor.

I don’t really like any of these girls left. I kind of liked Nastasia, but I didn’t figure she’d win anyway. If I were to go on looks alone, I’d pick Laura. I think she’s gorgeous.

I don’t get what everyone sees in Leila. She does photograph much better than she looks in person though. She’s terrible when she talks, so I don’t think she’d be good at commercial stuff at all.

Kiara is really plain looking to me. She’s pretty, but a bland pretty. Nothing exceptional. I’m also sick to death of her sob story.

I wish Tyra would keep Kelly and bring back Janice. And the Jay/J’s. That would be amazing. These new people are possibly the worst idea to ever happen to ANTM…and that’s saying something.

Thanks for the great recap Hypnotoad and I agree with you, Tyra almost always pick the wrong girl in the end.

One more week and this god awful season will be over and all those horrible people will be out of my life and out of my television screen…
Seriously brianboy, you’re dressing yourself as Lady Diana now… please die in a fire !
This season is so bad it makes me feel sorry for Kelly Cutrone, and I normally cannot stand her.

I disagree about Kiara winning the whole thing though. I think they are letting Laura crash and burn and are editing Kiara into a viable runner up for Leila, since to this point she was very middle of the pack.

And remember, Kiara has won several challenges. She probably has 50k in her “bank” right now.
I wouldn’t put it past Tyra to dangle a big cash prize in front of a girl who really needs it just to snatch it away at the last second. After all she is the kind of woman who asks a burn victim how she got scarred, with a smirk on her face.

Kelly Cutrone is the only intelligent and rational thing about this cycle. Due to that, Hypnotoad is likely right that her days are numbered. That somehow seems like a very sad comment on what ANTM has become.

Seriously, this cycle isn’t even trying. At least in past cycles there was some attempt to teach the girls modeling lessons, but now the only advice they get is useless comments in panel about what they could have done better. All the photos this week were kind of “meh,” but with a no-name perfume and a brain-dead “creative director” I’d find it tough to get inspired too.

Johnny is a bad rip-off of Mr. Jay, P’Trique is a more cartoonish version of Ms. Jay, and Rob is Tyra’s new Nigel – the post-botched lobotomy version. I disagreed with the old judges/mentors in the past (mostly for bias and inconsistency, which honestly we all have sometimes), but at least they had experience and knowledge of the fashion industry, and insights to offer. In this cycle, only Kelly brings a real resume and a brain to the table.

    Cycle 3: W – Eva. SHW – Amanda.
    Cycle 4: W – Naima. SHW – Kahlen.
    Cycle 5: W – Nicole. SHW – Nik
    Cycle 6: W – Danielle. SHW – Joanie
Cycle 7: W – CariDee. SHW – Melrose (sorry, but even though she was rude, I think she was a better model)
    Cycle 8: W – Jaslene. SHW – Renee
Cycle 9: W – Saleisha. SHW – Saleisha/Chantal/Jenah. (This one’s a toss-up for me. I really, really liked Jenah, but all three were great, I thought.)
    Cycle 10: W – Whitney. SHW – Anya.
Cycle 11: W – McKey. SHW – Analeigh (or anyone but McKey, really. One of the worst TM winners ever.)
Cycle 12: W – Teyona. SHW – Allison. (Although, re-watching the cycle, Teyona was a really fierce competitor)
Cycle 13: W – Nicole. SHW – Laura (LOVE LOVE LOVE Laura.)
Cycle 14: W – Krista. SHW – Raina or Alexandra. (Krista’s another rather poor choice for a winner.)
Cycle 15: W – Ann. SHW – Ann. I rather liked Jane, too.
Cycle 16: W – Brittani. SHW – . . . Molly, maybe? I love Kasia, but she didn’t really “bring it.” This was another cycle full of lackluster girls, if you ask me.
Cycle 17: W – Lisa. SHW – Allison! Again! Oy.
Cycle 18: W – Sophie. SHW – Sophie. (I couldn’t stand Laura. So much. I loved every single one of the Brits.)
Cycle 19: W – Who knows and who cares, really? SHW – Leila (if she doesn’t win), Nastasia

Cycle 5′s winner was one of the biggest farces of all time.
To this day, I do not understand how the judges could ever justify that pick.

But I disagree with alot of your list, Mr. Hypnotoad.
I think Mercedes should have won.
Eva’s win was fine with me.
Danielle’s win was fine with me.
CariDee’s win was fine with me. If Melrose had won, I would have jumped into a lake of fire. Hate her plus she looks old as hell.
Jaslene’s win was fine with me.
Definitely thought Chantal should have won. I could not stand Saleisha and I hated her hair. Damn her awesome runway walk.
100% agree with Bloody Eye Nicole winning the petite cycle. Laura is cute and lovable and just as sweet as sweet tea, but she is not a model. Sorry bout it. Nicole was running circles around her.
I don’t even really remember Krista or her season….I remember Raina though. Raina was gorgeous.
Did not agree with Ann winning at all. She’s pretty but she’s such a hot mess. She only won because Tyra loves crowning weird, gawky kids as the winners because it reminds her of her own life.
I loved Brittani and her pictures, so I was happy with her win. Could not stand Molly to save my life, even though she could pose for the gods.

As far as this episode goes, it’s sad what happened to Nastasia, but she’ll be alright. I think everyone can agree it’s actually better to not win ANTM in the long run.
And I’m 99.9999% sure it’s Leila who falls. The profile and her arm look like Leila, and I know Laura’s arm is not that small. And with the hair, it looks like a warmer shade of blonde than what Laura has. It’s been dusted with something to make it white, but you can still tell the original color.
I just hope she gets her ass up with haste, looks amazing, and makes them eat it. Because if she loses because she took a tumble….I will not be able to deal with it at all.
And Kiara better not win. She just better not.

I think that was the only time they’ve done that, labowner. Maybe because it was the petite cycle, they wanted to give another girl a chance.

So, I’m wondering how long the final panel will be, since the scores are all about challenges and social media. Will the runway be a challenge? They always have deliberations in the past but don’t have any this cycle. Maybe that’s why they have a final 3 this time — to stretch things out. I guess if Leila IS the one who falls, her social media score will help her out. But again, I’m predicting Kiara to win and Leila to be 2nd. And I wonder if they’ll bring back some of the eliminated girls to be in the runway show.

And did we confirm if all the eliminated girls went to Jamaica as well, or not?

Shit, Hypno, I wouldn’t be surprised if they stuck a rowboat in a pool and tried to make it look the other girls’ shoot lol. Would their teeny tiny budget allow for them to all go?

I’m being pessimistic and predicting Laura for the win and Kiara second, even though they obvs did crash and burn Leila totally on purpose to bring her back…so maybe? Damn, I don’t think any of these girls (even my fave Leila) would have passed the Covergirl execs. I guess the new sponsers don’t give a cluck.

I am like obsessed with Allison, although I never thought to look her up on Twitter…thanks! I’m one of those people who falls for someone based on personality and not gender, and I’ve always secretly hoped Allison was on my team :-)

Heh heh. I am less than one hour away from knowing who wins this cheap piece of shit show!! Of course I won’t spoil…I’m EST so it’s on right now. It’s paused, so ff to hit “play”!

Oh, dip!! I don’t have cable (I know, I know), so I’ll have to watch it tomorrow on HuluPlus and mah Roku. I kind of want to know tonight, though, even if I can’t watch it! Oooh, the extremely mild suspense!

I just spoiled it for myself. I don’t want to ruin it for anyone, but P’Trique won. There. I said it.

Count on me commenting on the next recap!
