Arrow Recap: Drugs Are Bad, Mkay?

“I went from Whitney Huston to this prick?”

Back in court, Laurel is trying way too hard with what I presume to be an opening statement in the case against the man who was on the steps before.  His name is Martin Somers and he’s accused of taking bribes to smuggle drugs into the city from the Chinese Triad and having a man killed for learning his secret.

I think it’s time for a shirtless training montage, don’t you?

Over 7 minutes into the show.  Took long enough.

Oliver voiceovers that Martin Somers is on the list in his dad’s journal with pink stars next to it in the margin.  But Laurel isn’t the only one willing to bring him to justice.

Just because.

Somers is meeting with some cronies and we quickly hear some arrows fly as the lights go out.  In between flashes of light, all the other men are dispatched.  I love that Arrow seems to have no problem killing a motherfucker.  He snatches Somers and hangs him upside down in order to lecture him on failing the city (this seems to be his mantra) and scare him with some arrows.  He warns Somers that he must testify in the trial and admit to having the man killed and grazed his cheek with an arrow before flitting away into the night.

Mrs. Queen grills Diggle about losing her son, and Ollie walks up and claims he was off with a nameless skank.  She plays the protective mother, but we know she’s an evil twat with only her best interests in mind.  Diggle tells Ollie not to ditch him or he’ll quit.

Kaitlin Cooper, oh her name is Thea, is off to get drunk and have anonymous sex.  She’s none too thrilled with her brother.

Cut to Detective Douche interviewing Somers.  The baddie denies that anything happened the night before, but DD knows better and whips out an arrow found in the area.  He says nothing will stop him from bringing Robin Hoodie down, and the arrow fits like Cinderella’s glass slipper into a notch on Somers’ desk.

Somers threatens DD and his daughter Laurel to try to get them out of his way.

Oops.

Mrs. Queen and Steele escort Oliver to the offices of his father’s company.  He plays at being a dick in order to maintain his image of. . . well, being a dick.  Mrs. Q wants her son to take a leadership position in the company, but Ollie wants no part.  His mom gives him a verbal spanking, and he leaves with Diggle.  The bodyguard drops a little knowledge on Oliver about being at war in Afghanistan, and it’s flashback time again.

“Sigh.  I’ll never have coconuts that fresh again.”

I love this show that’s why I’m so surprised it’s popular and not canceled (still looking for Jake in Progress, that VH1 show with Tori Spelling and Pepper Dennis on DVD). My only criticism is that Oliver wears clothes too much. There has got to be something he can do on the side that requires him to be naked or nearly naked for 84.3% of the show. They need to Magic Mike his character. Looking at him makes me want to the Grand Marshal of a Man Meat Parade …

    Also, GREAT RECAP

    China White? Really?

So, did anyone else get a massive Power Rangers vibe when the Arrow was fighting China in the warehouse – or is it just me?

*Still waiting for the Pink Ranger to appear*
