Arrow Recap: Thief of Hearts

Carter Bowen is a neurosurgeon, and is now trying to pimp himself as a Dr. Oz type.

We cut to the Royal Flush fam as they head into their next robbery.  The dad says not to shoot anybody.  It’s good to know that SOME people still have morals, eh?

Mrs. Bowen asks what Oliver’s plans are now that he’s back, and he brings up the night club again.  Is this night club ever going to happen?  Or is this the Sonja Morgan toaster oven of Arrow?

“Well it’s not just a night club.  It’s coasters and aprons and condoms and roofies. . .”

No Diggity comes and whispers into Ollie’s ear that a bank was just hit two minutes ago.  What excuse will Ollie come up with to get out of this?

“Explosive diarrhea.”

The plan is to intercept the RFG in a water tunnel that is the likely escape route.  The cops are also in the tunnel, and a shoot-out has begun.  Ollie literally slides on the scene, and it was somehow super sexual for me.

Maybe it’s just the whole on-your-knees position.

Arrow shoots the bag of loot away from one of the RFG, and it binds itself to the floor.  He disarms another robber and secures the bag even tighter with another arrow.  The baddies get away, and then Ollie escapes from the police.

The RFG is arguing amongst themselves, and the parents say they should get the fuck out of Dodge.  The angry Ace son says heeeeeell no, they need to get enough money to be set for life before they quit.  Daddy King agrees to one more job, but that’s it.

Ollie once again hits up Felicity Smoak for some nerd shit.  I like her quirky lack of a filter followed by backpeddling.

“I mean. . . 3.141592654—“

Ollie wants her to look into Derek Reston, one of the RFG.  And we get a fuck-you in the form of an ad for Asus and Windows 8.  She learns that Mr. Reston (King RFG) worked at a Queen steel factory for 15 years before it was shut down.  He was the foreman until Dead Queen laid of 1,500 people to outsource to China.  DQ (heh) even found a way to do it without having to pay severance or pension.  Basically Ollie’s father was a supreme asshole and fucked everyone over.

CAVE OF WONDERS

Ollie is talking to Ghost Daddy, who offers a gun with a single bullet to Ollie.  He says that his own death is made meaningless by Ollie’s.  Ollie says that he’s starving to death anyway, so he might as well make it quick.  He brings the gun to his head and we’re back to the future.

I am watching to show still, simply for the shirtless Oliver parts. They need to have more of those, lots more. I really dislike Oliver’s hair, both his ‘present’ hair and the wicked bad wig they put him in for the island parts. Is it wrong to say that Oliver is hot when he has on the Green Arrow make-up?

I think they are going to have Whaurel & Tommy develop more and get a little serious. Then she is going to dump him for Oliver. That will set up the whole Tommy becoming evil and hating Oliver story-line. I have never read the comics so that is purely my guess.

How old is Thea? She was acting like a teenager, but for her to actually like Tommy, I am guessing 18, just finishing high school. I don’t know. All these 20-something actress playing teenagers makes it hard to guess age.

I am still loving the show, although some of my opinions on the characters have changed. I like Tommy a lot, and don’t want him to be an enemy of Oliver, but if it expands his role, it could be good! I love a good villain.

What I don’t get is what is so great about Laurel…seriously, she’s a bit high and mighty for my liking. Why do all these guys fawn over her like she’s the greatest thing since sliced bread? Not sure it’s believable that both Oliver AND Tommy would want to give up their playboy ways for someone like her. I mean, at the very least they’d have an awful in-law to deal with!

Thea actually intrigues me…with so many references to “Speedy” which is supposedly her comic book alter ego, maybe we’ll be seeing her in superhero form sooner than expected? And I’m starting to like Moira, even though she might turn out to be a huge bitch. I like characters with a lot of depth and motivations.

Don’t like Dead Dad at all. Well, okay, I didn’t like Oliver’s hallucination of him. I’m pretty sure it isn’t Oliver’s problem if you fucked over the entire city, you don’t have to be such a royal prick about it, figment of Oliver’s imagination!

Does him throwing some of the papers in the fire mean his list of who to take revenge on is incomplete?

I like this show. I’m watching for the Green Arrow parts though.

I’m thinking Tommy’s going to become an enemy because Oliver’s going to go after his father.

I don’t understand how Thea thought Tommy was talking about her. Nothing he said or did implied that it was her. And she knew that him and Laurel had a thing before.

@Andrea I was thinking the same thing. As soon as I saw him throwing pages in the fire, I figured out what was going to happen. It bothered me the whole episode.

@carol I can still only see Thea as young Katilin Cooper on the OC, so my age range might be skewed.

@andrea I’m poorly versed in DC, and I’m pleased to learn about the reference to Speedy! That could add some much needed depth to her character. Even if it is some ways down the line. And yes, Laurel does need a boost in likability and an injection of personality.

@sagittariuskim I love your idea about Tommy/Oliver. That would be the only way to make a believable rift. I’m just hoping it’s not over Laurel.

I’ve willingly suspended my disbelief and really enjoy \Arrow,\ but I’m bothered by his apparent mad computers skillz. As a dyed-in-the-wool dilettante he would hardly have been a computer geek before the fateful cruise, and it doesn’t look as though there’s any electricity on the island.

But one look at these workout scenes and I realize it doesn’t matter after all. I’ll definitely keep watching.

No more Arrow recaps? I read them faithfully, but due to the current changes at work and how this site has become ad-central I don’t comment.
