Gyp’s all “Yeah, not gonna happen.” He likes having Gillian around and if he doesn’t know where she is, he might get “anxious.” Gillian promises that Gyp doesn’t have to worry about her and he says he hopes not. But it’s not threatening. He tells her it will all work out and once everything is settled, he’ll set her up with the best of everything. She won’t have to run the brothel anymore, he’ll treat her like a queen. Put her up on a pedestal.
Gillian doesn’t look too put out by Gyp’s offer and asks where he’ll be. Gyp feels free to admit his kinks to Gillian and tells her he’s way down below, like a little bug crawling around on her toe. He’s tearing up so Gillian hooks him in, telling him she could crush him. He says she could squash him flat and he’d beg for more. Feeling a little more control and power in the situation, Gillian leans in close and whispers if that’s what Gyp would like?
Realizing the power shift, Gyp backs off to get himself together and tells Gillian he was just having fun. Which usually means he’s about to kill someone so tread lightly, Gillian. Nope. She moves in for the metaphoric kill and tells Gyp that people have fun in many ways. Then she walks up to Gyp and tells him there’s no shame in any of them, that’s what the Artemis Club is all about. Gyp tells her she’s a pistol and Gillian tells him to “pull her trigger” and see what shoots out. Gyp’s about to shoot something himself, but Gillian whispers in his ear that she doesn’t know about him, but sometimes she wishes someone would give her exactly what she deserves.
Gyp’s confused and aroused and looking for something to beat (pun intended) then a phone rings. What? Damn. Oh. We’re shifting scenes and someone’s calling Nucky at the lumberyard. Nucky’s cleaning his gun and still can’t answer his own damn phone, so Eli answers it for him. It’s Rothstein. Nucky wants to know how Rothstein got that number, but he’s calling with an offer. While Eli listens in Rothstein offers to get Masseria to pull all his support, and men, from Rosetti for 99% of Overholt.
Nucky doesn’t look too upset but leaves Arnold hanging long enough for Arnold to reiterate the offer and tell Nucky that it’s a way out of his mess. Arnold wants to know if he can deliver on Masseria do they have a deal? Without getting shrill, or whiny or shouty Nucky just says yes. I couldn’t believe he’d give in so easily, and quietly, so you’d think Arnold would have gotten a clue but Arnold just says Nucky will be hearing from him later and hangs up. Nucky, looking like the cat that ate the canary, hangs up and tells Eli, “Big bait catches big rat.” AWE. SOME!
