Hello, Breaking Bad-ites! Here’s your recap ofBreaking Bad season 5 episode 7, “Say My Name”. And since the show decided to use 90′s R&B to name their episode, I decided to do the same to name my recap.
Because, let’s be honest, Walt acted like a real brat this week.
Here’s the important information the show reminds us about leading into this week’s episode…
-Mike has a group of associates all currently in federal lockup in connection with the Gus investigation, and he has to pay them hush money. This hush money partly comes from Walt and Jesse’s shares of the meth take.
-Last week Mike and Jesse tried to bail on Walter White’s Homestyle Meth ‘n’ Things by approaching a rival distributor, Declan, about selling their share of the methylamine. But Declan wasn’t interested in methylamine, he was interested in putting Heisenberg out of business, and he won’t make the sale without the whole amount. Walt refused to sell. So, Mike tried to force Walt to give up his own share of the methylamine, (by tying Walt to a radiator and absconding with the chemicals), but Walt slipped the tie and hid the methylamine somewhere. Then, Walt claimed to have come up with a solution that gives everyone what they want: Walt keeps all the methylamine and continues cooking, Mike gets his payday, and Declan…well, I’m not sure how he’s going to deal with Declan.
-Oh, and in the course of freeing himself from the zip tie, Walt burned his wrist with an electrical fire, giving himself a pretty nasty wound.
MIKE’S CAR, THE DESERT
We won’t have to wait very long to find out what Walt’s plan is.
Mike drives Jesse and Walt out into the desert for a meeting with Declan. Walt fidgets with the fresh bandage on his wrist. Looks painful.
Off in the distance they see a couple parked cars with Declan and his men standing alongside. Mike stops, and hands the reins over to Walt. This will be Walt’s show to run since Walt’s the one with the big plan.
Right away, Declan is unhappy. Mike and Jesse were supposed to bring 1,000 gallons of methylamine and instead all they have is a pasty middle-aged nerd. He wants to know where the methylamine is. Walt tells him the deal to sell the methylamine is off.
Obviously that doesn’t go over well with Declan. He had to pull strings to get $15 million together to buy the methylamine. Wasn’t easy. And now Walt tells him that Mike isn’t handling the negotiations any more, Walt himself is. So Declan tells Walt to just cut to the chase. What does Walt want
“I get to shoot the people I don’t like. aka the funnest part of being a criminal”
Here’s Walt’s plan: Declan is a distributor. And now that Mike is retiring, Walt needs a new distributor. So Walt offers Declan a chance exclusively to sell Walt’s blue meth. That’s the deal. On top of that, Declan will give Mike $5 million as a “finder’s fee”. So: Walt gets a distributor, Mike cashes out, and even though Declan doesn’t get his original wish, to get Heisenberg out of business, he gets something better.
