Walt finds the keys on the ledge and retrieves the go bag. He opens it up and looks inside. On top of the money and the other stuff you need when you skip town, Mike has stashed a gun.
And we’re back in a field by a river, where Mike is waiting for Walt, skipping some rocks. Eventually a car pulls up.
Walt brings Mike the go bag, but before he hands it over, he wants something from Mike: the names of Mike’s associates. Mike can’t see why Walt would ever need them. Walt doesn’t have to pay the associates, after all. (My guess? Because Walt wants to kill them and eliminate a potential threat).
Mike, unsurprisingly, doesn’t offer any, so he takes the bag out of Walt’s hand and leaves. But before he gets in the car, Walt sarcastically yells, “Thank you!” after him. That causes Mike to stop.
At long last, Mike gives Walt a piece of his mind…everything he’s privately thought about Walt but was too smart to say out loud. The headline is this: Walt, Mike, and Jesse had a good thing going when they worked for Gus. They had everything they needed. But Walt had to go and blow it all up out of pride and ego. Walt had to be the top guy.
But worst of all, Mike tells Walt that Walt is stupid. That alone means Mike signed his death warrant.
Finally Mike gets in the car. He looks in the go bag and sees, yep, that the pistol is missing. Walt approaches Mike’s window, draws, and shoots Mike in the side.
Walt actually looks shocked at what he’s done. Mike hits the gas and tears away from the field, but about a hundred yards away he crashes into a tree. The bullet looks fatal.
Walt walks up to the wreck, still stunned. Mike is gone. Walt spots a trail of blood leading off into some tall grass.
Soon, he finds Mike. Mike is just sitting on the ground. He has a gun in his hands, but the bullet he took must have been on the mark because Walt just takes it out of his hands without a fight. Mike is dying.
The reason Walt looks so horrified? It’s because he just realized Lydia has the names of Mike’s associates. This whole thing could have been avoided. (Except for how it wasn’t about the names at all). Walt apologizes.
Mike tells Walt to shut the fuck up. (Really. They bleep “fuck”). And let him die in peace.
Walt and Mike look out over the river. The sun starts to set. It’s peaceful. And Mike slumps over.
OK, let’s discuss…
-I’m just thinking out loud here, but…do you guys like this season? I’m not sure I like it as much as I’ve liked the other ones. I’ve been thinking about this all season, and to me the show is missing some things that made the other seasons great. For instance…
