Hi everyone! I know we are already into the season, but your Dallas recap is here! I’ll be honest – I wasn’t sure about watching this show. I was born the year Dallas premiered and I vaguely remembered watching the later episodes with my mom. Well, this past Sunday I was looking for something to watch while doing laundry. I finally went to the on demand channel and saw that the first three episodes were available. After watching the pilot, I was sucked in. It had everything: romance, back-stabbing, hot guys, greed, rivalry, hot guys, secrets, lies…oh, and hot guys. I settled in for my newest guilty pleasure.
Since we are on episode 4, I’m going to summarize the first 3 then go straight into this week’s episode. First, though, let’s meet the gang!

Christopher Ewing – the adopted son of Pam and Bobby. He has been in Asia researching alternative energies. He is how back at Southfork with his fiancée, Rebecca. You may remember him as the underage gardener that Eva Longoria had sex with on Desperate Housewives.

John Ross Ewing III – son of J.R. and Sue Ellen. He is determined to drill for oil at Southfork. He is involved with Elena Ramos.

Elena Ramos – the daughter of the Ewing family cook. She was engaged to Christopher until two years ago. She is now involved with John Ross.

Rebecca Sutter – fiancée of Christopher. She has been an orphan since the age of 12. She went to law school with the help of her brother, Tommy.

Tommy Sutter – Rebecca’s brother. Seems shady as hell.

Ann Ryland Ewing – Bobby’s 3rd wife. Bobby Ewing – Current owner of Southfork. You may remember her as Mary Alice on Desperate Housewives – of course she shot herself in the first episode, so you may just remember her voice…

Sue Ellen Ewing – J.R.’s ex-wife. She is currently in talks to run for governor of Texas. I’m not really sure what qualifies her to be governor, but let’s just go with it.

J.R. Ewing – Is in a nursing home for clinical depression. Even though he is not speaking, he still comes off as a villain. Yep, he’s still a bastard.
Now that we are all reunited, let’s start with the goings on at Southfork. Cue the theme song! I’m going to admit, I barely remembered the original series, but the second the music started, I instantly started humming along. There are a ton of storylines going on, so I figure I will just summarize each one.
Storyline #1 – Elena and John Ross strike oil
The pair strike oil on Southfork, Elena tells John Ross he’ll need to tell Bobby. I’m sure that will go over well considering Bobby is very anti-drilling on Southfork.
Storyline #2 – Christopher and Ewing Alternative Oil
Christopher is trying to use methane gas as a fuel alternative. It is frozen but will burn. He finds out that it is unstable after the drilling causes an earthquake in China. Temporarily shut down, he works with Elena to find a way to drill it in a safer manner.
Storyline #3 – Bobby has cancer
Bobby finds out that he has a gastrointestinal tumor. His doctor wants him to start oral chemo as soon as possible, but he wants to wait because he needs to take care of family business and Christopher is getting married. He ends up starting the medicine, which Ann finds. She is upset, but they will fight this together. They end up doing surgery and everything is looking good.
Storyline #4 – J.R. has clinical depression
Bobby visits J.R., and then John Ross does. John Ross’s visit brings him out of it and he is back and ready to scheme and lie.
If you like it, spread it!:

Yes! I love this show – totally hooked – just as much if not more than the first time around! and Love even more that you are doing the recaps!! awesome! ty
Although I’m old as dirt, I never got into the original Dallas; however, the hawt boys in the new version caught my eye, and I am hooked! I recognize some of the oldies (like Cliff Barnes) but I have no idea what they have to do with the storyline or why there is bad blood between the families. Oh well, I just enjoy the pretty.
OT – I wonder who John Tucker had to bang to get this roll?
*role*

Thank you, thank you, thank you for recapping this! I grew up with the old version of Dallas and have been looking forward to the new shows, and my family knows not to bother me when it is on! I’m so excited that you are recapping this! Hot guys, drama, backstabbing, oh yeah!
J.R.’s scraggly, caterpillarlike eyebrows creep me the hell out.
