Seriously, has Jill ever MET CrAbby- surely she isn’t delusional enough to think that she could interrupt a lesson, of someone else’s kid, I might add, and have it be hunky-dory in CrAbbyWorld???
CrAbby tells Jillusional she was inappropriate, she left her studio and went to her biggest rival! And she isn’t going to invest time in Kendall only to have Mommy blow it, again. In the camera interview CrAbby notes, “Jill is going to have to do a LOT of groveling and sign a LOT of paperwork before she’s back in.
(On a side note… they’ve been talking about all of this “paperwork” a lately. I wonder if it’s a CrAbby thing or a Lifetime thing or maybe a little of both.)

This is how you work it Nia… (you need mental Brillo, don’t you?)
Nia’s solo is called “Working Girl” and she is dancing to the song of the same title by LaQueefa. CrAbby says “Holly is the original working girl, because no one even had kids and worked before.” Followed by an eye-roll. Holly is not proud of Nia’s last LaQueefa number because the judges didn’t really like it.
We’ve gone, approximately 180 seconds without some drama so… it’s time for some. CrAbby gets a phone call – it’s the Casting Director from Drop Dead Diva, calling to tell CrAbby that the role will be going to Maddie.

Really!? Maddie got the role that we pre-arranged for her to get? That’s GREAT!!
Kelly wonders how they wanted a blonde and the only non-blonde to audition was Maddie. She and Christy are certain it was a conspiracy and Maddie had the part all along.
CrAbby says it’s not about being the BEST, but about being right for the part. Says the woman who has a meltdown when her kids aren’t deemed the BEST in competition.
The Moms just want a level playing field. Melissa says “The other Moms are just jealous.”
CrAbby is all unhinged about Nia’s hair, which is now being worn in long small braids. It keeps coming out of the ponytail holders.
Oh crap, Jill is back. She didn’t know what time rehearsal was, so she just decided to bring Kendall by… and pushes her into the studio. Christy thinks that Jill is in the Witness Protection Program, hiding from Kathy.
Why is Jill in a sweater and all of the other Mom’s are in halter dresses? How far does Jill actually LIVE from the studio? Does she live in Saskatchewan?!!?!

It’s Winter where Jill lives
CrAbby tells Kendall she needs to get some control over her mother- and Kendall seems to agree. Jill wants Kendall back on the team and the other moms think CrAbby may let her just to piss Kathy off.
The Group number isn’t working, the Vampire is getting lost among the 6 girls. So CrAbby cuts Mac out. She’s too little. She threatens to cut Paige and Nia because they are both a beat behind. But CrAbby decides to “Watch the rehearsal and decide at the competition” who will dance in the competition. Oh, that’s nice CrAbby, make the kids wait it out, be anxious and nervous and pull the rug out from under them at the last second.

Hmmmm, who can I cut from this sh*t show…
If you like it, spread it!:

Oh.my.WORD. I don’t usually laugh audibly when reading these recaps, but I actually did when I saw the “I have to poooooop…” caption!! Still chuckling.
And, I was a little uncomfortable with the crotch-to-face proximity between Brooke and the boy. Glad you caught that too. Ugh. If I was Brooke I would have been mortified.
I’m beyond words at the Jill craziness. The whole pushing the kid into class with a bunch of girls she was trying to sabotage and beat at competition at a studio where you allegedly haven’t been for 6 months…. Who the heck DOES that?!?
nah…the thing with brookes crotch-to-face thingy…well teens got to start sometimes right…better to have her crotch in the guys face on stage then in back of a dodge pickup…lol..i’ve got this hot tinkling wet feeling when ever i see jill and im really a guy…that girl just makes me wanna holla her name out while the trailer is rocking…LOVE THIS CRAZYSHOW!!!!
The scene where Abby was showing Nia how to walk on stage for her dance—”Step, step, step, WAHOO”—makes me laugh every time. I feel bad for Kendall. The whole leaving-ALDC-to-go-to-CADC thing may be fake, but Kendall’s tears were real. I read somewhere that Maddie isn’t even going to be on Drop Dead Diva, Abby is. I don’t know if that’s correct, though. Also, Holly was being uncharacteristically aggressive in this episode. Maybe it was her time of the month? Per usual, here are the full dances:

One more thing (I always forget something)—Nia won a special scholarship for her solo. Yay, Nia.
My favorite part of this whole episode was the girls laughing really hard when Holly was yelling at Abby. Brooke was actually laughing so maybe she does have more than one facial expression! (that made 2 so far)
I’ve stopped watching the show and rely solely on your hilarious recaps! In my opinion, having endured 16 years of tedious dance lessons given by a no-talent instructor, I realize that I might have benefited from even ONE AbbeyLee private lesson! How fortunate the girls are to be in her presence. I watch all of the dances on YouTube and firmly believe that Chloe will eventually become the more recognized star. Her talent is much more commercially versatile and will have a broader public market. Maddie is more suited for the ballet or operatic stage, which of course, appeals to a much smaller audience…also, her short legs will never be able to compete with the long-legged Chloe. She is a lovely sight to see, however, she is no Chloe!
I agree with Abby when it came to Nia’s hair. It was too sloppy for dance class. At ballet studios they are very strict about hair. Must be in a bun with any stray hair slicked back and bobby pined. So Abby is more liberal than she has to be and Nia was still not put up good enough for that.
Jabby was right about Nia’s hair but jeez woman! Do you really need to yell in her face that her hair is horrible?
Jill is crazy. Seriously, those producers don’t own your soul or your first born. You could have refused to put up with this fake drama and traumatize your daughter. Kendall was so upset and her tears were real – actually, she was breathing so fast it looked like she was having a panic attack and her mother screaming like a banshee wasn’t clearly helping her. I hope those women are setting a fund for their daughters’ future terapy because they’re goingo to neet it badly.
When Holly went off on Jabby my mouth was hanging open. First thought I had was is real Holly coming out now that she is working. Sigh, *whispering* Jabby was right, Nia should have had her hair pulled up better than it was. I loved all the solos and the group number this week and agree that the dance looked better with less dancers. Great recap, I had quite a few laugh out loud moments,
*now that she isn’t working
@Gwen I agree… Poor Kendall. The stress this puts on the kids is real even if the drama is manufactured. In fact, at the end of the episode where Kendall is sitting on Abby’s lap, you can actually HEAR Abby whisper to Kendall, “This is a tv show, stop it.” It’s right before Jill says that it’s going to cost her a lot of money in therapy. It was horrifying to watch.
And poor Maddie! How uncomfortable did she look when she had to take out her crowns? Way to send mixed messages to these girls.
Nia had been rehearsing so isn’t it possible that her hair fell loose while dancing. It was probable better before rehearsal started, it looked fine during the pyramid.
I also thought Bowgate 2012 was totally bizarre. So like if Kendall decided to just randomly wear a white bow in her hair that day, she would still have been yelled at by Abby?! Wtf?!
Even if her hair fell out during rehearsal that is still unacceptable. The whole point of putting it up is that you secure it so that it won’t fall out during rehearsal or performing. I hate very tight slicked back ponytails or buns when I danced and they didn’t fall out even after hours of practicing. It is possible.
I liked the vampire dance better with less dancers too and Mackenzie in it would have been too creepy. It was almost borderline creepy with the other girls because that boy is so much older. The choreo was very good because they came off as entranced just as she wanted perfectly. I thought Nia rocked the attitude in her solo and so she earned that award but the “Working Girl” and anything by Shangela is a little inappropriate. I love Shangela, but it is not for little girls to dance to.
Very impressive for all three of your solos to place in top 10! We had that happen with all our group dancers at one competition. It was a smaller regional but still how proud we were to have every dance in top 10 of Senior category and we just kept moving down the line higher and higher and then got 1st overall too.
Also, has anyone noticed the “dance style” captions are never the same for one dance, and almost always wrong? Like, when Paige was rehearsing, it said her dance is jazz. When she was competing, it said it was contemporary. When, in reality, it was acro. It also said Nia’s was contemporary and I’m pretty sure it’s jazz.
Gwen: Well Abby herself said and many of us dancers concur, the producers and directors and editors have zero knowledge about dance and it shows.
Hmmm…. The group dance had both timing and spacing down pretty well (and better than we often see with these kids having to learn so many dances in so little time). And so convenient that time wasn’t wasted having Nick practice lifts with the girls who were ultimately cut too. Yeah, I soooo believe that the participants were determined in the dressing room moments before the performance…
I liked the group number a lot, and agree that going with 3 girls was the right thing to do.. Liked the solos, but really don’t think it’s appropriate to be dancing to Laquifa (or whatever the name is), and if I were Holly that would have bothered me. Nia did do a great job though!! Paige was wonderful as well, but really would like to see her do something a bit different– we know she can rock the acro stuff, let’s see something else!! Maddie, always the same…. Please give the girl something different. I was watching Maddie as Nia was doing her dance and thought to myself that I bet doing something like that would be fun for Maddie– yes, I know, it’s below her level and all that, but just to do something FUN and DIFFERENT would be something for her, right? I felt so bad for her with the crown thing. What is wrong with these people? She seemed very uncomfortable, and I blame her mom for bringing them in.. Just because they asked you to do it, doesn’t mean you need to do it. Obviously it was going to be meant to rub it in the other little girls faces, and that’s just not right!!!
Lastly, Jill… What to say… I don’t even have the words really.. I felt SO BAD for her little girl. Those are real tears and I see her in tears most of the time now, and it’s unfortunate and unnecessary. Why would she throw her in there like that? Ugh, everything Jill did bothered me. I like Kendall, but if Jill has to come with the package and I think it’s better for the group to not have her in there. Seems like a sweet little girl though..
I have been along time reader of the recap, but never a writer till now. Abby yelled a chloe before because her hair was not tied up. Nia here is tied up, even though it is in two pig tails (which is what it is). They may not have been the prettiest pig tails but they served its purpose. Holly was coming from a mothers perspective, her daughter was blasted for her looks. There are ways in which you can tell a child something without making them feel like crap. Besides, did anyone see Nia’s face when Abby came up to her, how she cowered closer to her mom. That is not acting. If I was in Holly’s shoes I would say the same thing. Abby stated that Nia’s hair weighed her down and you could see Nia’s lips going NO IT DOESN’T.
As for the Maddie winning the t.v casting, congrats!! Whether it was fixed or not, I still say congrats. However, in no way shape or form should those mothers voice their opinions ON CAMERA. Yes, it’s a free country and you can say whatever you like, but they could have said it to Mellissa without the cameras rolling. Also, Mellissa, Mellissa, Mel, What the heck, Abby told you to bring all the trophies for Maddie and you never once questioned the motive.
Abby, that was not nice; in fact it was incredibly mean. I thought we do not flaunt our accomplishments. Not to mention that you put a child on the spot.
I need to switch my career to therapist/psychiatrist (some will need it) because just the ALDC kids will be enough for me to retire on.
Sorry it sooo long.
its
Holly has a shocking persecution complex, my god! Abby’s said in interviews that what gets aired in the episodes makes it look like she just yells about every single thing without warning but there’s actually a build-up to yelling. I actually saw a hint of it in this episode about the hair! And seriously, Holly, maybe they agreed without knowing how massive the braids would be, but see it’s possibly hindering her dancing and want her to take them out? And how many days has Abby criticized the hair before getting pissed off? We don’t know! I want to like Holly, you can tell she wants to do right for Nia, but how often do we see her take anything even remotely critical of Nia and start tuning it out as unhelpful! Even when the suggestion was to get her in more ballet classes so she’d be able to handle solos better, Holly just dismissed it as Abby giving her hollow responses.
I just loved the group dance this week! The way they started walking out not in sync, slowly building to perfectly in sync and then Puppet People! I love it! XD
Seriously cringed when Paige broke her foot. We all knew it was coming but that almost made it worse! The whole thing with Maddie’s crowns and the other mom’s response to even her getting the part was just as bad. I think I get Abby’s point (The crowns are a symbol of the achievement and Maddie or any of them should not have to feel guilty to win because they’ve earned it) but as usual her way to try and illustrate a point was straight up bizarre and completely obliterated the point. No one will get her message because they were too busy being disgusted at what they thought was going on. Unless I’ve completely confused her point, but I don’t think I did.
Poor Kendall looked like she was pre-panic attack right before Jill said, “do you like doing this to a kid,” or something like that. That is a very distinctive breathing pattern. Of all the moms, Jill may bother me the most. Also, I could see her cleavage in that scene and it was *frightening*
abby lee may be crazy and a bully, but if i were the dance teacher and a mom acted the way jill did, i would refuse to even consider having her family involved with my company ever again … unfortunate for the child, but when the parent is that narcissistic and abrasive, you can forget about it (er, if this were “real,” anyway). and i definitely would have interpreted jill putting a bow in kendall’s hair as a “MY kid IS dancing in this number.”
that aside, hopefully kendall will be back because jill adds prime drama for entertainment value there.
She’s going to be in the next episode because she’s trying to get Kendall to take Paige’s spot while her foot’s broken
Hi, not sure if anyone posted about this or not yet, but I just stumbled upon this gem. Brooke has a music single!
http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/dance-moms/blog/brooke-releases-first-single-summer-love-song?cmpid=Social_Facebook_Lifetime_07302012_2
Hey guys! Missed you all while I was away. Thanks to MisRed for an awesome recap.
I just read on twitter that there will be no new ep this week
https://twitter.com/DanceMoms/status/230045169142095874
Oh wait. Did everybody know that except me? (Late to the party.)
Oh Lord Brooke’s single just sounds so autotuned I can’t really even tell if she is a good singer or not. I don’t have a good ear for music or singing whatsoever (disclaimer) so I may be off, but I didn’t like it.
The song reminds me of “Party in the U.S.A” by Miley Cyrus(please just don’t ask how I know the song).
@ Moli It really does. I’m guessing the same writers.
@April they showed her singing briefly in a previous episode and she actually has a very nice natural voice.
@sagittariuskim I don’t know if this is true, but according to the show Brooke wrote the song.
It’s a bit of a piss-off because from what was demonstrated in the one episode Brooke does not have a strong voice and will need a few good YEARS of training before she’s even ready to sing pop music (and it appeared to me that the coach was giving her bad advice – actually telling her to go into her nose? So wrong). She gets a single because she’s a TV star. Perhaps it’s just sour grapes, but for crying out loud, she’s fourteen years old and being made into a “celebrity” when she’s just the subject of a documentary. I think the reason it gets to me is because I enjoy seeing kids be kids. As much as the kids push themselves at an adult level in dance, it’s refreshing to see kids acting their age (Nia is really darling that way, she’s definitely a ten-year-old). This is going to ruin so many of them.
@Bree I don’t think she told her to go onto her nose, I remember the teacher saying not to, and to “Open your mouth no matter how bad it sounds”.
Hey guys guess what! I just talked to Payton on the phone, she was calling people while she was on UStream. It only lasted about 30 seconds, but it was pretty cool.
@Gwen– Really? You spoke with Payton? Did you ask her any questions? What did you talk about? There would be so many questions I would want to ask them if ever had the chance- mostly the moms I think, but I’m sure if I only had 30 seconds, I would probably just blank out and panic and not know what to say.. LOL! Hopefully you had a good time and maybe got some interesting info..?
Tricky how they made the music so much louder than Brooke’s voice on that song. It seems to me like they took 17 recordings of her singing the song..auto tuned each one a little bit differently and overlapped them so I couldn’t reaaaallllly tell what her voice sounded like. I absolutely agree that I couldn’t tell if she was good or not because of all of that. Given what we saw on the episode though I think that she is a nice singer, but it wouldn’t be the next place I would venture to outside of dancing. I’d rather see her do some acting. They can put her on that abc family show about the gymnasts. she could walk on her chin and act all in one show.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTV5J-wK5fE
Brooke and Mackenzie singing together, having fun and no auto tune metallic sound. Slight auto tunes to round out shakey notes or something seem like a reasonable thing when polishing out a song to put out there ( I clearly know nothing about music) but when they make it so people can’t even really tell what someones voice sounds like. If someone believes her voice is good enough to release a single I don’t see why they would go through so much trouble to make sure her voice isn’t heard in said single.. Seeing her actually sing and being about the see how artificial the single is somewhat bothersome. It’s wasteful of what they have to work with already. Like a pretty girl who gets plastic surgery. Needless. I wish they would have released the song without all the plastic surgery.
Also as I said in my earlier comment (my hours of tv watching clearly making me an expert career manager) I would love to see her act. That said, I would love love love if the girls danced to a song that Brooke sang. If they could combine both things into an episode that would be amazing.
@Dani no I didn’t really get to ask her anything, it was really very short. I think all I said was “Hi, how are you?” and “Did you see the gymnastics team final?” lol
Elle: they could! I remember a lot of the competitions had a song and dance category. You sing and dance at the same time or sing part of the song then dance part of it. We had a girl from our studio enter it once. She sang like first part of the song and then tap danced to Bill Bailey.
They need to have Brooke do something like that!
The vampire number won the 9-11 small group. Nick looks older than 11!
Will someone puleeze take Paige to McDonalds.
