Downstairs, Jabby is telling Kendall that she’s “lucky” to rehearse with “these people” who win week after week. Jabby says that Kendall’s bad habits have gotten worse since her excursion into the Crazee World of Candy Apple’s and that Jabby has to correct those bad habits. Then Jabby says that even though she is in the group number and a duet, Kendall is under NO CIRCUMSTANCES a member of the team. She is still a guest and had better not forget it.
Don’t get cocky, kid.
Now, regarding Maddie’s special part, Jabby extols how amazing Maddie’s facial expressions are and how she will totally sell the dance. I think she means facial expression – singular – because I’ve yet to see her make a face other than the goofy one on her face every week.
So in this group number, the other four girls are doing one thing and Maddie is doing something else. The four girls are afraid of her for being different (and better) so they “break her down” with dance and make her become like them. Or something. It’s all very complicated. Somebody should analyze Jabby’s psyche based on the dance themes she comes up with.
I know you probably won’t believe this, but Christi is upstairs complaining. She is mad that Jabby picked Maddie to do the “special” part and she thinks that Jabby thinks that the rest of the girls are “a mediocre cult and if they see somebody better, they are going to drag her down to their level.” Christi continues that the whole thing was “offensive” and it parallels the situation last week where Jabby singled out Maddie in front of the group because she is the best ever or whatever. Christi deems the whole situation “bullshit.”
Holly pipes up to say that Jabby is always talking about Nia being “different” and this would be a perfect opportunity to capitalize on Nia’s “differences.” Again, if Jabby did single Nia out for being “different,” we’d be hearing about that, am I right? You can’t win with these bitches.
Kelly’s been uncharacteristically quiet, so she jumps in to say that it’s almost like Jabby thinks Maddie is above the rest of girls and that they are bringing her down.
I’m tired of complaining about choreography, so I’ll get aboard the Maddie train.
Melissa interviews that the moms are reading wayyyyy to much into this and they are always looking for something to argue about. Did you just wake up, Melissa?
Christi says to Melissa that it’s too bad that she can’t celebrate other people, but gets mad when the other moms don’t celebrate Maddie. Melissa says that “everyone celebrates everyone.” (Me, I celebrate red wine.) Christi says “That’s why you talk about my daughter.”
We get a flashback to Melissa tattling to Jabby about Christi and Chloe’s movie date a few weeks ago. Then Christi’s like, “What’s the matter, Melissa? No comment. No deflection?” Melissa yells, “You talk about my daughter all the time.” Christi screams that she only talks about how Jabby FAVORS Maddie, not about Maddie per se.
If you like it, spread it!:

Great Recap!!
Question: Is Starbound the only place where they will allow Dance Moms to film? It seems like every week they are at yet another Starbound.. I hope they are at least different judges..?
@Dani – I was wondering the same thing!
This season they’ve only done Energy, Starbound, and Starpower. Maybe one other (NextStar?)
So embarrassed that I pay that close attention….
I think Maddie is going to end up on the bottom of the pyramid next week for her refusal to do a solo, Chloe next for losing by 1/10 of a point, then Paige and Brooke for being so stupid and allowing themselves to be injured (Jabby’s opinion, not mine!), then Nia for doing nothing wrong but nothing spectacular either and then Mac and Kendall on the top. That would cause some interesting drama!
Ooooooooh, calling someone out on sickle feet is a burn! Basically a dancer’s foot should be pointed out so that the leg and foot make a straight line. Sickling is curling under (curling down your toes, which causes your foot to arch). Not pretty. I can only imagine it would be superbad in competition.
That’s actually pretty funny (but I took 14 years of ballet, so my sense of humor when it comes to dance is skewed)
Great recap Snoop! I think I covered most of what I wanted to say in the mini cap
Cathy had another boy in the Chinese Princess number (though he could be another ringer but there was no talk about him when he was on stage). So I don’t know why Gia said that Cathy didn’t have another boy.
This show, especially the past few episodes, has become borderline emotional child abuse. I feel bad for this kids :-/ Specially Mack in this episode And poor Maddie. That girl is gonna crack one day.
@jen–I agree. Poor kids. I really, really hope that the moms don’t allow the girls to actually watch the show (unless they only let them watch the dancing part, without any comments from Abby, etc..). Watching Abby say, “we have Chloe to thank you that {not winning all 3 categories}” just made me sick. I know the kids hear what Abby says to their faces, which is bad enough, but when they show the interviews and hear what the moms and Abby say… I wouldn’t want any of the kids to hear anything they have to say. I would hope the moms have enough sense to not allow them to watch this show (even though they are in it) at this time. Maybe Brooke because she is 14, but none of the other kids, definitely. Even Brooke would be questionable.
Your right, there was another boy in that other dance! I forgot about him. I don’t think he was a “ringer” though, at least from what we saw of him, but who knows? That Drazen kid actually did look like he was pretty good, though I didn’t think they did very well in their duet, but you could tell he had some good training (somewhere other than candy apples, I’m sure). Justice is very good at the acro. I feel Chloe did a better job in her dance, IMO. I’m almost starting to feel that Starbound is rigged to make sure Maddie wins everytime, and Chloe is either second or just losing behind someone like candyapples. I know that’s probably paranoid thinking and you would think a professional dance competition wouldn’t do that, but seeing Maddie do the same old dance week after week, and always winning, and Chloe always coming in behind her, makes you wonder…? Maybe they are being paid by Lifetime and giving Lifetime what they want..? Anyone else feel that way at all? I look forward to them doing a competition somewhere else.
Christi, Kelly and Holly– PLEASE take your girls somewhere else! The emotional abuse (especially what Chloe endures) is not worth it. I’m sure you can get out of that contract if you really try. They’ll be better off for it in the long run.. I couldn’t imagine someone talking crap about my kid like that. I would lose it, which is why I have some empathy for Christi because I am a mom and know what it feels like to see your kids feeling hurt or know they are being picked on or things not being fair. Not that it makes Christi’s behavior ok. It doesn’t, but I can somewhat understand how she might feel and how it can bring her to lose it at times. Of course, the logical thing to do would be to leave. I don’t think the girls are even getting any good dance training at this point. They should go somewhere else to grow in their dancing. Abby just has them doing the same thing week after week because all she cares about is winning, not about her dancers growing..
Ok, enough with my rant. Sorry so long!!
Here’s a thought… Why don’t they go to a studio where they can actually learn some good technique and NOT compete? If they can get out of their contract, obviously… My daughter attends a dance school where there are no competitions and they take ballet at least 3x a week and get real training. If these girls want to be professional dancers, the “competition” part will come later. Get the training now! (I have nothing against competitions or studios that compete in them, but obviously it is taking a tole on these girls emotionally and physically).
here a clue..theses kids are not really being abused by abby..its a act…these kids have facebook and twitter and are happy..they love abby..its all staged..even payton..she really good friends with the kids but on the show shes like the bully..on the show shes made up to look mean but on twitter and facebook shes so sweet..and abby and kathy go to dances together..they’re great friends..!!!
just figured i’d give ya heads up on the truth!!!!
this show is getting is getting so stupid and annoying. the only part i can stand now is competition… well the little parts of the performances they show.
The parents get on my nerves (esp Christi, she just complains sooo much and I just wish she would shut up!) Abby gets on my nerves with her treatment of the kids (real or fake, it’s what we’re being shown) and idk I get angry watching this now and that’s not a good thing. I wish we could have a more positive episode instead of the same old storyline between chloe and maddie, melissa and christi, kelly and christi and abby, abby and her love for maddie and “hate” for the others. Like just shut up!
sorry, I had to get that off my chest.
I got so mad when Abby explained Chloe’s “loss” by saying that they just want boys to be interested in the same breath she blamed Chloe for not getting the clean sweep? Which is it, Jabbs?
I posted this on the minicap, I think, but I’ll say it again: Justice has beaten Chloe before. With the same “Shipwrecked” dance (when Chloe did her Angry Bird dance). I think that’s why Abby was unsure if Chloe could beat Justice. No excuse for her being so blatantly rude and unsupportive, though.
@Dani, I don’t know how many competitions they are allowed to film at, but I know that StarQuest banned them from filming there because of the producers twisting the results.
Oh, and one more thing: The mystery Apple’s boy’s name is Drazen. Which is a close second to, if not dumber, the names we see on Toddlers & Tiaras.
Don’t quote me on this but I was reading (perhaps on twop) and someone said they knew that boy and he wasn’t even from CADC . Cathy has been going Nutty over people asking her on twitter lol
i’ll reiterate that i’m in camp no-low-blows (or, really, no-irrelevant-blows) in terms of christi v. melissa. i don’t even care that when you put yourself on tv you’re risking to have anything about you exposed, but i still think that bringing out an irrelevant attack pretty much proves the accusing party has no solid points, or else they’d address something that actually has to do with the discussion at hand. but it is what it is, and of course drama is encouraged. that doesn’t mean that christi doesn’t irritate me on a weekly basis.
i love obnoxious fake “reality” shows, i really do … but i’m really starting to doubt my ability to continue watching this one!
You can count me with the steadily growing camp of people seriously considering quitting this show. All the participants (by which I mean the teachers and parents, the girls are really just there to dance and cry) are now crude caricatures of humans. There is no longer charm and I no longer enjoy watching it. I miss looking forward to this show every week like I did in season one!
I’ve heard that Candy Apples has quit (after the season), so maybe that will lessen some of the insanity. I think even the moms are getting sick of it and want to be out of this contract, so maybe it will end soon.. I hope so for the sake of the girls. I would love to watch them each week, without the favoritism, cruelness from Abby and the yelling and screaming by the moms. I LOVE the girls, and do enjoy watching them!
Apples – plural. Apple’s – possessive.
I think they would still do the show if they promised to change the format and stop all the fake drama and just let the girls dance and see how it turns out naturally. I would still watch that.
@Linda S here on TVGasm we know the difference, we just purposely write “Apple’s” because on the sign of Cathy’s studio it says “Candy Apple’s Dance Center”
@Dani CADC did quit the show right before the alleged strangling of Crazee Cathy.
I loved Season 1 and never missed an episode. Now I just read your fantastic recaps. They might as well just film with the scripts in everyone’s hands. Or market the show as a sitcom. I love reading all the comments. If something was not clear to me while reading your recap it will always be explained in the comments.
Dear everyone who’s thinking about not watching Dance Moms anymore: Just stop watching! I haven’t watched the past 2 episodes and really hardly miss it. I like reading the recaps and sometimes I watch the dances on youtube if I can find them, but I just can’t watch the abuse any longer. If we all stop watching, it’ll go away!
@Melody– I can’t stop watching. I look forward to watching it every Tuesday. It’s really the only show I watch. I would be happy to have less moms (and Abby and Cathy) and more of the kids dancing.
When they had the Miami show on instead, I really did miss this show, so I’m sure I would miss it.
I have no sympathy for any of the moms. As bad as Abby is, I think the moms are worse for subjecting their kids to her. They know what she’s about but still to allow it. Continually subjecting their kids to someone they say is nothing but horrible to their children makes them terrible parents imo. The contract excuses are just bs. It’s just something for them to hide behind when called out. They didn’t sign away their freedom. No one can force them to be on tv or make their kids dance under Abby, especially if that would cause harm to their child (which they could easily argue it does). No one can force the moms to act obnoxious and follow the crappy scripts, but they readily do it. If they really wanted off the show they would bring a book and not say a word. If they don’t create drama they will be replaced. But that’s obviously the last thing they want. Kelly was so concerned about Kendall replacing Paige on the team even though she acts like she wants her away from Abby. Clearly that’s a lie and she doesn’t want to move her kids. None of them do. The moms love the attention they and their kids are getting.
Wednesday—well said!!! I agree 100%! The girls all seem so sweet and supportive of each other. I HATE the example that Abby sets for them. Whatever happened to good sportsmanship?
Abby’s really not as bad as they show on the show. Every coach or instructor yells at the kids. I’ve done cheerleading since I was 7 and every coach I had yelled at us. It wasn’t constant and I’m sure Abby doesn’t either. They just use all the yelling parts and not when she’s fine since the producer believes yelling is better tv then just talking. Also Abby and Cathy are friends so maybe Abby just gets angry that her friend is doing all this to her. I don’t think they tell Abby everything that Cathy does so it surprises her and she acts naturally. Wouldn’t you be pissed if your friends did these things to you?
@Samantha– I don’t mind the yelling so much that Abby does, it’s the words she uses and also the blatant favoritism she shows. Plus, she’s always pitting the girls (or trying to) against eachother. Fortunately, it seems the girls all love eachother and don’t let it get to them too much, but the fact that she tries to pit them against eachother bothers me.. She calls the girls stupid all the time, and that’s emotional abuse, plus she talks badly about their mothers (even if true, someone shouldn’t say bad things about your parent to a child because it just makes them feel hurt and upset). When she is angry at the moms (which is often) she purposely tries to hurt the mom by being cruel to her child. There are so many other things, but I’ll stop with that. She’s just mean! Not because she yells, but because she is cruel in the things she does and says..
I don’t think her and Cathy are friends anymore. I think they were friends, but with everything that has happened, I am pretty sure that friendship (which was more of a friendly acquaintance than an actual real friendship from my understanding) has been severed. I think they truly can’t stand eachother anymore from what I’ve hear and the tweets that go back and forth. I will say, as bad as I think Abby is, I think Cathy is even worse!! Can’t stand that woman!!
i don’t think abby is THAT bad, either .. the moms are way worse (well, no, not all of them, but a few are).
Regardless of what is scripted or not, I think Cathy is a psycho. She just seems like a nut. And why did she say that Vivi reads 3rd grade books? That’s what an 8 yr old should read! Or was she implying that Mac can’t? Poor little Mac – I hope she does go to real school like Mel said. I’d love to see a Mac/Vivi solo showdown!
Well actually I think Abby is supposed to pit them against one another. And as a team pit them against the other teams.
I mean I loved Erin but I wanted to beat her butt in every competition. I was very upset when Erin beat me, but that’s what made the two of us the best on our team in my opinion.
Awesome recap! Felt bad for Mac aswell
