Next day, we are treated to another fake phone call where Jabby “learns” that the “Rotten Apple’s” are going to the comp this weekend and that Justice is doing a solo and duet with another little boy. Gia (I think it’s Gia) says she doesn’t think that Cathy HAS another boy, so they conclude that Cathy is bringing in a ringer. So now Jabby wants Maddie to do a solo against Justice. I don’t understand why Jabby is so obsessed with Cathy and the Apple’s. They have proven themselves again and again to be sub-par.
Melissa shows up and Jabby asks where she was the day before. Mel says she’s sick of being “bullied” by the other moms. Jabby’s like, “Whatever. Maddie’s doing a solo this weekend.” Melissa says no way. Jabby tries to bring up contracts, but Melissa actually stands her ground. She says that having Maddie learn a solo the night before a competition is too much and not going to happen.
Upstairs, Shrill says they missed Melissa the day before and asks if she’s going to the competition. Melissa tersely says yes. Shrill asks what Jabby said to her downstairs and Melissa tells them that Jabby wants Maddie to do a solo but she said no. Kelly asks why she said no. Melissa says because it’s not Maddie’s week. Then she interviews that she’d NEVER hear the end of it from the other moms if she were to let Maddie do the solo.
As if to prove her point, Christi says that if Chloe had missed a rehearsal she’d be screamed at, but when Maddie misses one she is rewarded with a solo. Shrill says it’s not fair of Jabby to have asked Maddie to do a solo last-minute, but if she had asked Kendall, Kendall would have done it two seconds. Yeah, but she actually wants to beat the Candy Apple’s, Shrill. Not come in 15th place. (No disrespect to Kendall, but she’s not the same level as Maddie.)
NOW Christi is saying that Jabby should have just given Chloe’s solo to Maddie rather than have Chloe be Jabby’s “go-to” loser. She interviews that Jabby has no faith in Chloe. Here’s a quick quiz. Your name is Christi. You are a dance mom. What do you complain about?
a) Your daughter is doing a solo
b) Your daughter is under extreme pressure from having to do a solo
c) Your daughter is not doing a solo
d) Your daughter WAS doing a solo, but her teacher gave it to Maddie
e) Today is Friday
Answer: It’s five o’clock somewhere, let’s go out for cosmos.
So then we have a scene where Jabby tries to guilt Maddie into doing the solo and accuses her of “[BLEEPING] all over her.” I think she sad “crapping.” I’m glad the bleeper is getting a lot of work this week. Maddie says that even though Jabby wants her to do a solo, she has to listen to her mom who doesn’t want her to do one.
