Previously: ALDC held its annual dance “concert.” Leslie gave Shrill an earful, got into a verbal altercation (as they say on Judge Judy) with Kelly and then mysteriously disappeared and was never heard from again. Jabby took Maddie’s featured part away and gave it to Chloe, but Maddie won the ALDC scholarship so she can continue to take classes when Melissa’s boyfriend-backed gravy train runs out.
Jabby says the recital was a smashing success and they showed the entire city of Pittsburgh why they are on top. But they can’t rest on their laurels because the road to Nationals is just beginning. Oh dear lord in heaven. We’re not even close to Nationals yet, are we? This season is never going to end, is it? My grandchildren will be writing these recaps 40 years from now. Ugh.
Anyway, the road to Nationals starts this week when they go to iHollywood in L.A. Hey, did you know that California dancers are the best dancers ever?
Pyramid. Paige is on the bottom again because she is still not dancing. Oh come on, she did a fantastic job of standing around and moving her arms at the recital. Next is Brooke, because hip-hop clearly isn’t her strong point. But why single out Brooke? None of them are particularly great at hip-hop. Oh well. Then we have Mackenzie because while she looked like a big girl in the HH routine, the choreography was a little over her head.
Second row, Nia who won the most-improved scholarship. Next is Chloe, who did a great job in the featured role. Finally, on top we have Maddie who won the scholarship. That’s so completely random that Maddie won the scholarship AND is on top of the pyramid this week.
Jabby notes for those of us who are blind and deaf that Kendall is not on the pyramid again. But she tells Kendall to keep working and keep trying and she may make the team yet. Shrill complains that Jabby is playing games and torturing her and Kendall, but she seems to have run out of steam and I think she is just complaining out of habit now.
This week, Mackenzie and Nia will do solos. Jabby has one more solo to give out and since she is still punishing Maddie for not doing that solo three weeks ago, she gives it to Chloe. Everyone, including Kendall and Paige, will be in the group number and yay! It’s by the same “artist” who did Where. Have. All. The. Children. Gone? It’s called I Can See the Kite Flying and it’s about crazy people in insane asylums. Mental illness is fun!
Upstairs, Holly notes that the number is weird, but it’s okay because Jabby does weird well. We also learn that Paige has a doctor’s appointment tomorrow and hopefully she will be cleared to dance. That would be helpful, since Jabby has put her in the group number.
Gia is sitting at the front desk, when in walks the mom and kid we met last week from St. Louis. The mom is Kaya and her daughter is Nicaya. They are here to see Jabby. Jabby interviews that she is always looking to make the team stronger and maybe new blood is what they need to help them ahead of Nationals. Yes, bringing in a complete stranger right before Nationals seems like a winning strategy to me. Jabby sends Nicaya to warm up and sends Kaya upstairs to the wolves.
