Dance Moms Recap: New Girl

Paige is back and she is cleared to dance! But she still can’t do any tricks and has to take it easy.

Kaya and Nicaya are leaving when Jabby stops them at the front desk to fill out paperwork. Kaya tells Jabby that she is taking a chance that Paige will be okay to dance since her foot is still not 100%. Jabby says no, she’s taking a chance because Paige has been dancing there since she was three years old. Kaya tries to get Jabby to put Nicaya in the group number, but Jabby won’t relent. Kaya asks what she needs to do to show how much Nicaya wants to be in the number. Jabby asks if she would be willing to fly to Cali and have her kid be a swing with no guarantees she’ll get in the competition? Kaya is on board with that. Jabby interviews she “may” invite them to L.A.

The moms and Kaya all go to lunch to get to know Kaya better. Melissa wants to know what would make her go from a man to a woman. Way to ease into the conversation, Melissa. Kaya interviews that Melissa was pinging her gaydar because she was being “too friendly” to her. Huh? She’d better watch out, or Melissa will sue her for that.

Then, in a not-at-all producer-prompted question, Kaya asks the moms what they think of her. Who does that? I’d prefer not to know what people really think of me. Kelly says that Kaya is crazy with her “AKA Black Patsy” schtick. Kaya says the moms are ALL crazy. But Kelly, laughing maniacally, says she’s not THAT crazy.

Kaya turns to Shrill and asks for advice about getting her kid on the team since Shrill is in the same position. Shrill interviews that Kaya is crazy and there’s no way in hell she would tell her anything helpful.

Christi, who’s been quiet lately (like in the last few episodes, right?), says Kaya can’t just WALK in and expect the world. Kaya’s like, “uh, but I DID just walk in…” Kelly asks if Kaya is coming to L.A. with them, but Kaya does not know yet. How can she have a life outside dance and not know that yet? Huh?

Holly interviews that it was bizarre situation and a bizarre lunch, and they don’t know anything about Kaya except that she’s – I can’t read my notes that well – but I think it says she is “Black Patsy in a jacket and Nicaya’s mom.” Forgive me if I got that wrong.

Nia’s solo is call 20s Scat and is inspired by Josephine Baker.

Beyonce before there was a Beyonce

Holly says that Josephine Baker was the Beyonce of her time. Christi says that Nia is the “Beyonce upcoming.” Down in the studio, Jabby is demonstrating some kind of booty move and the moms are repulsed.

NOT Beyonce

I can’t believe Abby said something so awful about Chloe. I follow Chloe on Twitter and she was tweeting during the show and she said something like “What did Abby just say about me?” I felt so bad. No child’s coach/teacher/whatever should be bashing them. And on NATIONAL TV nonetheless.

I didn’t think the new girl was that impressive. She is good, but not better than the other girls even close. She is cute though.

Black Patsy is crazy. I hate the whole naming your kid like your name but different. It kinda comes across as very self important. Kaya and Nikaya. Why don’t I just name my sons Mapril and Papril?

I liked Chloe’s costume. She looked very fab. I loved Nia’s solo. She really has improved and I am very proud of her. I knew Ghetto Black Mama and Huxtable Black Mama were not going to get along. Maybe that is a racist thing to say, but it almost always plays out that way. They don’t mesh well because someone will always call the classier Black woman a traitor or something. Sigh…..since when is being classy all of a sudden betraying your ethnicity? I am so with Dr. Holly on this one.

I thought the group number was amazing. Liked it a lot more than “Where have all the children gone?” It came out beautiful but scary at the same time. I liked it with more dancers.

I want Dr. Holly and Black Patsy to get into a throwdown. In which DR. Holly throws her framed doctorate at Black Patsy’s face while Black Patsy screams at Melissa to hold her earrings.

I know from reading past posts that not a lot of you are fans of Kelly, but I’ve always liked her. I think she would be fun to go out with. That being said I’m wondering what is up with her. She seems to be flying off the handle a lot easier and more frequently than in the past. Christie always has a “knowing” look on her face after Kelly has a meltdown, like she understands her friend and why she is taking this so hard right now. Anyway, hope things are ok with her soon.

I’d love to see a throw down between Dr. Holly and Black Patsy! Holly rocks! However I think she is too classy to stoop to BP’s level.

Melissa is an idiot! “Oh, I love that name!”. Whatever!

LOVED loved Nia’s routine!! Cool music and beautiful coshtume. And chloe was amazing as well!!

NOT a fan of the new mom. Cannot STAND her. Bwah hah hah–Ghetto Mom vs Huxtable Mom- so true!! New Mom is rude, arrogant, and shrieker than the other moms. And I was hoping the new girl would maybe be this amazing talent that would dethrone Maddie as queen, but…meh.

I really don’t think I can watch full episodes of this show any more. Next week I plan to record it on the DVR and fast forward through all the shrieking and weird, confusing, manufactured drama, and just watch the girls and their dancing.

As much as I dislike Abby and the way she treats the girls, I really don’t like it when the moms have to demean her because of her weight. Why did they have to make fun of her when she was showing Nia those moves? Yes, obviously she is overweight, so does that make it not ok for her to demonstrate what she is trying to convey to Nia? It’s just like how I felt about Cathy making fun of Christi’s nose… WTF? If you have a problem with someone, then address THAT problem, don’t stoop to name-calling, or making fun of someone because of their weight, their nose, their appearance.. That is just something that I wanted to get off my chest because it has been bothering me for awhile. Yeah, we get it. Abby is overweight, but she is a pretty lady and can always lose weight, and they don’t need to put her down for that- it makes them come off as low class in my opinion. I have a lot of respect for Holly in general, but didn’t like how she was kind of making fun of Abby about her showing Nia dance moves.. Just cause your overweight, doesn’t mean you can’t dance, or demonstrate..

I thought Chloe and Nia did a great job! Chloe started off kind of off, but in the end she nailed it and looked amazing. Nia really has improved. Love the girls! Moms, not so much..

This episode was crazy! to say the least.. but i really have a hard time believing this whole kaya & nicaya thing. Like did she move to Pitt for Jabby ?? if so thats ridiculous & 4 kids and a wife ??? I felt bad for the kid tho, nicaya looked traumatized . The whole situation was definitely set up for TV . I mean what normal person can just pick up and fly to Cali with a days notice ??? and what about her other 3 kids at home ? Did she leave them in the “hood” while she and nini (obv the favorite lol) flew to Cali for an excursion with the ALDC ? This whole thing is just not adding up. The moms havent really tweeted a whole lot about kaya , but im very curious to know the REAL story on her. I mean is she really even from St. Louis ? or is she just someone scouted by lifetime?

ALSO … many episodes ago when the girls did the Nip& Tuck dance, the moms made a big deal how they want their girls to feel comfortable in their own skin, and shouldnt have to worry about body image. Yet these same mothers are always bashing on Abbys weight ? Way to set an example ladies ….

&& considering kendall never really left the aldc and went to candy apples, the kid does a pretty good job of acting out the whole thing. Sometimes i worry for these little girls, i mean so many things on the show are set up by lifetime, i mean in real life kendall is on the aldc team, the moms LIKE jill and cathy and jabby are friends. The moms even tweet to the Candy Apples moms and students, they are actually friends. Lets face it, DM won’t be on the air forever, the girls will eventually have to return to normal life with no cameras or staged events.. I mean these are little girls, arent the moms worried that they may lose sight of reality.. this whole show can really harm them in the long run & watching your mothers fight, curse, scream, & cry on national TV cant be easy. I mean some of the profanity probably goes over their heads but still. NOT TO MENTION what Leslie said about Melissa on NATIONAL TELEVISION last week. My parents are divorced and divorce is not easy on kids, and for those kids to hear about their mother having an affair on national television just saddens me. Poor maddie and kenz

OK IM DONE NOW SORRY !

When Black Patsy called to Sister Holly for support, I jacked the volume up on my tv. I couldn’t wait to hear Holly’s response. That woman is RUDE. She seems to really want to do right by her kid, which is admirable, but man, she’s abrasive and uncouth. That’s saying a lot, when grouping her with that bunch. I’m sure Shrill was loving that Black Patsy was there… it made her look like a saint.

Did that drama in the dressing room take place in front of the kids? I couldn’t tell if they were in there or not.

I really enjoyed the sister-time with Paige and Brooke. The editing on this show makes Brooke look like a closet case. It was nice to see her actually having fun. Heck, they even showed an interview with her! I don’t remember the last time that happened!

Question for the real dance moms – whats with the music choices? Where do these things come from? When I danced (for a few years, and definitely not competitively), we did songs that were actually well-known. Are their selections because of copyright issues?

Yes the weird song choice is because of copyright issues. I mean in a way sometimes the different music can be refreshing because it gets old hearing the same pop songs over and over at competitions.

I agree. I don’t do this kind of dancing but sometimes these songs just grab me. I’m actually really in love with “Cry” by Alexx Calise (or however that’s spelled) now. It’s just a very pretty song. It reminds me of Black Orchid by Blue October–both are beautiful songs about depression!

I think Nia should’ve gotten a higher title than Chloe based on the fact that she danced better. Mackenzie’s solos are so repetitive that honestly, I’m bored watching them now. The group number was very bizzare. I think Nini is a very pretty girl but, she’s just not ready to be on the team. She needs to learn some acro to be up to the same level as the others. I didn’t like the nickname Black Patsy on her jacket. It was very disrespectful of JonBenet and the tragedy that happened to her. Go Holly! for sticking up to her guns though!

@diane – Maddie might be humble now?? Not sure what you’re referring to? I think that most people would agree that in-spite of everything these girls are very sweet and nice (per people who have met them at competitions and how they treat each other on TV). They all support each other in dances and it seems like in class. Does Abby show favoritism, sure, but how is that the 10 year old child’s fault? She seems (as we are only shown tiny parts of these girls lives) to want to do well and follows what her teachers asks her to do, which is what most parents try to teach their children. Does the girl win a lot, yes, but again, is it bad to win and should she feel bad about winning?? Is saying that she’s excited for a special part or saying that she thinks she did well, arrogant?

Sorry, don’t mean to come off as mean/rude, just can’t believe you feel that any of these girls are anything other that humble.

if i were holly, i’d be piiiiiiiissed about kaya trying to get her on her side based on their ethnicity, too. i don’t appreciate people trying to imply that you should have an insta-bond because you happen to have been born the same ethnicity as they are.

does anyone know what christi’s business was? i don’t think i’ve ever found out.

@smango i read somewhere in an interview with abby that the producers choose many of the themes. Mostly the controversial ones i believe. In the interview im pretty sure they were referring to the naked fan dance episode. Abby said in the interview that the dances she normally choreographs are similar to the solos & the party party party dance . But for drama and entertainment purposes the producers often pick the themes

@Bec, we compliment Nia on her dancing more than the other girls because when the show first started dancing was more of a hobby(of many) for Nia. We see all the rapid(at least in my eyes) grown she has shown over the past year. Hell no she isn’t on the same level as Maddie and Chloe, but she has grown past being the person that lifts Mack. On that note I really liked her dance this week. Man, Abby sure does crazy…loved the group routine and liked that it had all the girls.

I clapped when Holly put Trash mom in her place. I hate people who think just because you are the same[insert similarity] you are automatically suppose to side with them. Also not a fan of her and her daughters similar names. While I didn’t DISLIKE Nicaya, she didn’t impress me as much as her mother had me hyped up for. If I hadn’t learned that Crazy Cathy and her Apples’s pulled out of the show I would have sworn they were going to have her ‘move’ to the studio for drama.

Hey guys remember when this show use to be good? It’s becoming a distant memory.

1st of all…B.S with hip hop choreo being over Big Mack’s head! She was popping & swerving her little rump better than anybody else in that routine. Even the clip of her ‘messing up’ showed her rolling like a pro.

@April….Ummmm: “I knew Ghetto Black Mama and Huxtable Black Mama were not going to get along. Maybe that is a racist thing to say, but it almost always plays out that way.”

I love ya girl, but even with your disclaimer…I don’t like that statement! Even being the bitch that she is, I think it’s clear that Kaya is well educated & is probably far removed from the ‘ghetto black mama’ she was portraying on the show. Just because one is from ‘the hood’, it doesn’t make them ghetto. Correct me if I missed the part where she called HERSELF ghetto. If anything the actions Christie & Kelly have displayed in the past would classify them as ghetto. Also? Claire Huxtable, while a beloved figure in the AA community & one that certainly played a part in getting the world to see us differently, is the most dated, successful ‘black mama’ I can think of. Trust me..we have more than one representative to compare Holly to. Plus didn’t you hear? She is Michelle Obama’s long lost twin! Everybody says so lol. Much more fitting.

Having said all that…me being in Holly’s position for most of my life, I concur with your sentiments! My mouth dropped as soon as she said “as a sister” then I smacked my forehead & covered my eyes. I HATE THAT SHIT! And you have NO idea how much intelligent AAs hate it when they are expected to agree with someone’s ignorance because of our race. But as usual, Dr. Holly, to all you bitches, handled it with class & just the right amount of divatude & put to a stop to that bat shit craziness.

Alas, I think BP was only around for this episode. I don’t know why because even though her storyline was as whack as her self given nickname, she did bring a different kinda fire to the set. The old rehashes are getting well…old & I for one usually wait until this is the last show I have in my DVR before playing catch up because it’s not as interesting to watch as it use to be, unless you’re dumb enough to believe this shit.

WhyTF did they only show 2 episodes of the Amazing Patty Ann & her Jersey Cheer craziness but continue to show this fake shit? That’s a show I would have like to seen all of. She had me @ the “Come on, bitches” she yelled at her senior squad during the opening sequence lol. Who says that shit to other people’s children on national tv? LOVE HER!

@fancyface (37) — i totally feel like holly is michelle obama’s long-lost sister; i love them both, though. holly r arely loses her cool, and even though she does every once in a while, a) who doesn’t? and b) she does it tastefully.

as for the ghetto thing, i have a feeling that, based on how kaya is portraying herself (or, well, maybe how lifetime editing is showing her to want to portray herself), i doubt she’d find it too insulting. as long as it implies that she’s a bad-ass (she’s still obnoxious).

i’m not black (i say black because (i have black friends who hate the term african american, because that implies that you are also american, and not black people in the u.s.a. are, of course, so i’ve gotten more used to saying “black,” because it also makes more sense), but i am a minority and i also can’t stand it when anyone tries to act like we should be bff or i should understand them if they’re acting crazy just based on our shared ethnicity. which is why i would be totally pissed if i were holly, too.

Since Black Patsy referred to herself as “Ghetto” I figured it would be okay for me to refer to her that way as well. And the Claire Huxtable comment about Holly was a nod to an earlier episode of Dance Moms where Christi says Holly’s family is like the Huxtables. So I was just going with what they already say about themselves. I think Holly reminds me of a Huxtable way more than an Obama anyway. Plus I like Claire and Holly a lot more than I like Michelle.

So I really don’t see anything wrong with what I said or the sentiment which you agreed with. It would have been nice for there to be another AA character on the show but unfortunately it did not take long before all the drama started.
But no offense was meant. Just me trying to make a joke.

Kaya never called herself ghetto, she said she is from the hood. Being from a certain type of background doesn’t neccessarily make someone ghetto. If Kaya has to be called ghetto then Kelly and Christi are white trash plain and simple. Holly is quick to bring up her ethnicity when she feels her child is being treated unfairly due to her race. Kaya correctly stated Holly should be able to empathize with feeling that she was being singled out for being different, that being
said Kaya could have handled the situation better. How is calling Brooke broke-back Brooke any colder than calling an eight year old a human prop?

What? Are you people crazy? I loved Kaya. This was a hilarious episode. It would cut to Abby being like “I’m worried about Paige’s foot not being ready to dance and I want her to be ok.” Then to Kelly flailing around screeching having a fit and acting like SHE was trying to get into the crazy girl fly a kite dance. Abby’s seemingly normal statements contrasted with Kelly melting down was fantastic.

I felt like Kaya..got it. She got the rules. Say “Yep we will go learn these dance terms.” even if she didn’t see the point to learning the terms. She got the game that was being played and was going with it. When she had her daughter go ask if she was going to be in the dance it seemed a respectful and assertive way to ask. I thought she was interesting and her daughter was interesting and it would be nice to see what she could bring to the team. I mean Brooke can’t possibly be young enough to dance with them another year can she? unless they move up from jr group or whatever it is they are. I think its interesting when they have enough for a group and a duet and trio and a solo or two. More girls means more combinations and more times for us to see something in our dancers we wouldn’t expect.

To be honest I’m surprised Paige danced at all. Shouldn’t her mom have yanked her out of the dance by now?

I think the person that stirred the most sh*t in this episode was Abby. It was so not a big deal that Nicaya said “Miss Abby Lee” into the mic when they won. No one cared. She happened to be first in line and he held the mic in front of her so she answered. It was Abby in the dressing room that started yelling that they shouldn’t have let the new girl take the mic! Wtf? Just congratulate them on winning and let them all be happy.

@jazzy — i do agree that the mic thing was stupid for abby to bitch about. it would have been ridiculous for one of the other girls to leap over nicaya or fight her for the microphone, since the announcer held it up to her specifically. and then abby would have just bitched at them for acting up onstage & embarrassing the studio.

She would definitely have made Chrelly pop a freaking vein in their heads trying to go toe 2 toe with that nut.

@Jazzy….The mic thing? That one got me as well. STFU Abby. The girl that was actually standing BEHIND all of your regular dancers as they accepted the award & got the mic shoved in her face to say 3 fucking words! Goes to show you they ran out of ideas on how to start a post comp fight in the dressing room.

@Lily…TRUE. Cathy & Abby couldn’t have less against each other if they tried. The only moments I believe from their interactions are the ones where Cathy goes for the jugular with the moms after seeing a show & taping with them afterwards. And yes, the moms are friendly with each other…well they were before choke gate. Now the Apples just blast the show on twitter by telling the truth behind the epis. Like Kendall never being a member & only time she came to CA was to learn group dances, Cathy didn’t choreo any of her solos, & how she never left ALDC. The best part was when the CAs unleased their teenagers on twitter & let them tell the world what went down during the fight, how much taping they do for their 5mins on air, & how much they hate the other moms. Lifetime must not realize that in the age of social media, they couldn’t pass that shit off as real longer than it takes to send a tweet.

Our dance studio had a great solution to the mic thing. Since we usually were large groups or lines anyway not all the dancers could get up there. So we designated one to two dancers each time to go receive the award and do the mic thing. Then we switched each competition. Worked out well.

IMO, calling Vivi a human prop is totally different than calling two children ‘Brokeback Brooke’ and ‘Pegleg Paige’. It is a slight to Vivi’s mother for using her own daughter (who doesn’t care about dance and doesn’t even try to make it look she does) and is not an insult to the child. Brooke and Paige are experienced, hard-working dancers and they have been injured. Kaya is rude.

I didn’t hate her for Brokeback Brooke (Especially since..there was a very very similer line used on tvgasm for a recap “Brookeback mountain”?) or for Pegleg paige. I more giggled about how convienent their injuries matched their names.

Also I feel like all the moms secretly feel that way. Even if they all LOVE Maddie..I think its pretty clear they aren’t all busted up when she gets knocked down a peg. If one of the other girls was banned from solos and such for several weeks they would be bitching loud enough for everyone to hear with a “This wouldn’t happen to Maddie.” I feel the only difference here is that new mom used actual lines instead of talking BETWEEN the lines. I loved her. I felt like she has it to go toe to toe with Christie who seems like a little dictator up in that room with Kelly as her crazy time companion.

Unfortanately it appears they were a one episode thing :( In the extra footage Christie said something like “Abby told them they weren’t a good fit for the team” and then it went into the “same my name” fight again. Tragic. I want her to stay.

@Jazzy– I wouldn’t put too much stock into those tweets. I don’t believe for one second that NIA and CHLOE (sweetest kids ever) were “waving their trophies and taunting” these teenagers. Give me a break!! I one that I’ve seen be the worst sport about losing has been Cathy- the way she went into Abby’s dressing room and ridiculed them, and the times she’s called Christi a big nose (this is when they lost- Candy Apples). She’s also a horrible “winner” by the one time she did win and taunted Abby and the moms about it. Ugh, just stand her. Anyway, that’s off the topic, but seriously, I don’t believe for one second that these little girls were taunting these teenagers. I’m not sure what brought on the “fight” with Christi and Cathy, but I’m sure Cathy was not a total innocent victim in whatever went down.

@HunnahBunnah– I agree with you about the human prop comment. Vivi IS being used as a human prop. That’s just a fact. She doesn’t dance, but is used to lower the age range. It’s so obvious, because she just runs on and off, or someone lifts her up and down. Calling Brooke and Paige those names are much worse!!

He and his mother are really funny on their accounts. His mom also does not dramatize all the crap on the show…

@Dani I too had a hard time believing that the ALDC girls would run down the street taunting the CADC girls. Unless seriously prompted by the producers to do it, it just seems out of character for these girls.

This show is getting stale. I am another one who is on the borderline of not watching anymore. There is only so much yelling and arguing that an audience can take… and when Abby is forced to grasp at straws like with the mic thing? Which was funny because she seemed to totally tune out during the argument and only paid attention when Kelly was like, "Are you really letting this happen?" Oh yeah….

And I’m sure they may make up a storyline to showcase the fight later on, but I doubt if we’ll ever really know what happens because I can’t see them showing Christie ‘running from the cops’ after giving Cathy a well deserved choking. Or would they??

Dancing to a song with basically no music and no beats. She should have been at least 3rd for that alone, and the dress was beautiful. Anyhow, more dance, less mom arguments….we hardly get to see the routines. Good show, good recap.

LOL I enjoyed this episode. It’s been a while since this show’s had anything surprising or unexpected. And the formula gets stale after a while. But a lot of people must like it. Since it’s still going.

This was a good compromise though. They can even still keep the same per cents of moms hollering, Jabby fussing, etc the focus group dept says. But also change it up some.

Kaya’s got a talent not just for acting. But also comedy!
You could tell they didn’t go over much about her character with the moms beforehand. At least some of her scenes with the moms were 1st takes. You could see just from the reactions. So they got to be surprised too. And look “real.”

I’ve been having fun picking out which shows I hope Kaya gets cast on next!

I also saw paige running with the boot on. idk if their injuries are for the show or what , but for being in pain these girls run around a lot. i love them both tho! & i doubt christi left bruises or scratches on cathy.. i mean im sure it would have been in the news.. police reports or something .. thats assault. & also when the candy apples win they always flaunt their trophies in abbys face, ( well the one time they did win) I think that part is for the show though, bc as a former dancer, when u win at these competitions, you usually do not go brag about it in the opposing teams dressing room.. My theory is Christi, Holly and the girls were “running down the street waving trophies and crowns” strictly for filming.. & stuff got out of hand from their.

@Lilly19— The episode with the “fight” we haven’t yet seen is from a comp that hasn’t been aired yet. It will be on the season finale, which will be not this coming Tuesday, but the Tuesday after. So it’s not from the last CADC vs. ALDC comp. Obviously the producers want them to compete against eachother, so probably in the contract that they go at it for the season finale. I do have an idea who wins (from some pics I’ve seen), but Energy Dance is not showing the results on their website, which is annoying because I want to know all the details.. LOL.

The tweets are ridiculous! Most of the girls tweeting are 15 and 16 years old. I think they are just being really dramatic, or wanted sympathy or something.. I’m sure they probably get a lot of crap for being on the show because Cathy makes them look so bad. Who knows?

As for the running with the boot with Paige.. I think that’s just a kid being a kid. My daughter broke her clavicle right before summer. We were bummed because she made the competition softball team for the summer, and so she couldn’t do it. Doctor said 6-8 weeks. Of course i wouldn’t let her play, but I saw her within a week running around and playing outside with friends, and by 2 weeks I caught her outside with her friends swinging the bat and throwing the ball around. Kids just don’t want to stay down, even if that’s what’s best for them. By 6 weeks it felt like she had been fine for so long.. So I think with Paige and her foot, she probably feel fine by now (or then), and just has a lot of energy and wants to run around and play, even though it’s best for her to let her foot rest. I don’t know about Brooke, except maybe her dance causes a lot more pain then running around in the dressing room…?

@dani That is true, brookes back probably causes pain when she is contorting like that. She’s getting older and her body just can’t bend like that anymore. Those are moves we will probably see our up and coming acrobat Kenzie do.
& Thanks for the clear up with the cadc vs aldc fight ! Makes a lot more sense & I agree the girls are being a little dramatic, although i’m sure they were shaken up by it all.

Totally off topic, but has anyone else noticed that the CADC is about “More Than Dance”? They have a link on their site that explains how they host themes birthday parties. No disrespect to Cathy, she seems like a better business person than dance teacher with her dance studio/beef jerkypalooza/birthday host all in one building. Way to save on rent! I just wonder if this is common in the dance world, the hosting of bday parties. Who has parties at a dance studio? Just seems so random lol, any dance moms want to weigh in? Also, how old is Justice? He looks like a 9 year old but tweets like a 15 year old hormonal boy heavily reliant on ye old ” ;) ” emoticon.

It is becoming more common to have birthday parties at dance studios (as it is about everywhere- karate studios, gyms, etc..). I think a lot of businesses have caught onto the fact that people don’t seem to want a bunch of kids in their homes, and are paying a lot to have them somewhere else, and also entertained. When my kids are invited to a party, it’s almost always “somewhere” like that.. So, I don’t think Cathy’s studio is unusual in that way.

Justice is about 12 years old, I think. Definitely much older than 9. He is at least 11 or 12.

@Nolongerbre – I’m not a dance mom but I am a competitive cheer mom. We have birthday parties at our gym year round. It makes sense to me to have them at our place because of the trampolines and other apparatus we have, I’m not sure what all is available in a dance gym that could be fun to play on, but it would not surprise me if they do have them. I know our gym makes a killing hosting birthday parties that consist of the kids playing around for an hour and a half on the bouncy cheer floor, the tramps, the tumble tramp and foam pit. Easy money!

Our dance studio occasionally did parties too. I think it is fairly common. Our teacher had a costume closet filled with old costumes and the kids were allowed to play dress up during the parties and they would turn out the lights and get the strobe light out or glo sticks and they would dance around to music in the dark and they even did slumber parties sometimes.

Its nuts to me how people see that as a bad thing. If the other girls outshine her and beat her fair square then they do. To me the other girls are good and Maddy is exceptional to me. She’s a such a performer and you can tell she dances because she loves it and its in her heart and soul. That’s what matters. She’s a perfectionist and since when is having a passion and skill a cause to be hated. Its silly. She’s a child.

On Black Patsy, not all people can be from the same class and the same environment. Who are any of those women to treat her like they’re better than her. Those moms never gave Patsy a chance and they were rude to her from day one. They treated her and her daughter like an intruder from the beginning. No welcome, no hi how are you. She was trying to be nice and they weren’t trying to be nice to her at all. When she said she was gay, they all got quiet like “Holy hell a gay woman”. I felt bad for Patsy.

All she wanted was an opportunity for her daughter and the other moms fought to stop a child from getting in a competition group. That’s disgusting! They were nasty and viscous like always and Patsy snapped. End of story. And you have Christi and her big nose shooting her mouth off like normal and Patsy put her in her place.

Holly was my favorite mom for a while along with Melissa and now I have no respect for Holly. She never once asked any of those moms to give Patsy a chance but yet she claims to be the only sane person in the group. Plus I really don’t like how Holly tried to pretend like no one has ever judged her daughter by her ethnicity and its not an issue.

Its obviously hard for black children to get the opportunities Patsy was referring to. She wants to call herself a Doctor and talk about class, but Holly has more education than any those moms up there but I doubt she gets as much respect. She needs to stop pretending like no one judged Nia and Holly by they’re ethnicity. Wasn’t she pissed off that Abby called Nia, Shanequa or whatever way you spell that name and put her daughter in a nappy wig. She offended and I don’t blame her!

Holly has serious issues with wanting to get away from that stereotype of lower income black people which is why she didn’t stick up for Patsy. She openly stated that Shanequa is not who she is or her daughter and not who she represents or associates with. I work with the community and although I don’t blame Holly for be offended for being stereotyped, isn’t she doing the same thing. Since when does being lower class mean you’re a bad person. To be honest, I was happy those Dance Moms shut up for once when Patsy said something. Holly is so fake to me now. IDK.
