Drag U Recap: Back in the Saddle

Some glitter, spackle and Lucite heels and it’s show time! Hilary’s certain her ex is going to eat his heart out when he sees her while her sister thinks she needs to start her life again. Faith wants to prove to her family that she’s beautiful and confident while her utterly adorable, apparently twin boys want her to know they love her. And Shana’s just ready to start showing off while her cousin’s looking forward to meeting her inner diva.

Aw, cute kids make everything better. Except plane rides.

Back from commercials, and Jelissa the announcer introduces the faculty, visiting professors and our president, RuPaul…who’s decided to dress like Pee Wee Herman. Bold move, Ru. He introduces us to the judges: Lady Bunny, Phlex and straight out of 1987, Donna Mills! So let the draguation commence.

I wore it better, bitches.

Oral examination time.

Tatiana says she feels fabulous, fierce and should be feared and Donna Mills thinks her ex is crazy.

Elantra’s boys think she’s sexy while Phlex says he could see her sizzling on the runway.

Callie says whenever she hits a rough patch she’ll just call on Callie to get her through it while Lady Bunny tells her she’s gorgeous, even if she stole Bunny’s wig and put a banana in it.

All dissertation panels should feature Lady Bunny.

Performance time, and while they’re all a little clunky I thought Callie won it.  Faith still looks tentative while Hilary looks sleepy and Shana’s working double time to get the judges attention. Until then I’d have said it was anyone’s game because they are all really likeable, endearing women but to me Shana won it with the performance. But how to do falcutty feel?

CALLIE TROPICALE WINS!

No hard feelings from the others, though, because Hilary’s happy for Callie while Faith says she feels 100% like a winner, too. It was a nice start but Drag U will always be the shaggy, country cousin to Drag Race. Which isn’t bad because at least there’s no Phi Phi.

VGirl, your RPA (recap point average) is A+ whether ‘capping the delightful Drag Race or…

This is to Tough Love what Jersey Shore is to Masterpiece Theatre, but whatevs, you make it such fun!

Okay, now back to reading. Will catch the show this afternoon post-’cap.

Thanks for the great recap, vallegirl!!
I didn’t like Shana. She just always seemed so disingenuous to me…like she was saying or doing what people wanted to hear or see, instead of actually feeling anything. I think the other women seemed to really take all the drag tomfoolery to heart, so I would have preferred if one of them had won.

Faith’s sons are the cutest things I have ever seen. But can we briefly discuss how one of them shouted out that his mom looked sexy? I had to clutch my pearls at that one.

And is it just me, or has Lady Bunny lost weight?
Maybe it was just the outfit, but she looked so lean to me in her segment.

I wonder if Sahara Davenport ever gets jealous of Manila’s fierceness.

Thanks, SSC. But I don’t watch Tough Love so I can’t compare the two. I do like Drag U for what it is, but it really is just a small companion piece to Drag Race.

As for Bunny, I don’t think she’s lost weight because she always had great, but thin, legs. It’s the size of her head and wig that suggests she’s heavier than she is and her penchant for swing dresses, which probably makes certain elements of drag easier, also makes her look heavier. But I love how bitchy

I thought Faith’s son was cute in the way he kind of cluelessly said she was “sexy.” I don’t think the word has a real-life meaning to him yet so he was using it as a synonym for “pretty” or “cute” or whatever boys his age say about cute girls at school.

And why wouldn’t Sahara be jealous of Manila’s fierceness? Isn’t everyone?

    Let me finish that thought:

I love how bitchy AND GRAND Bunny is. Half Dame Edna/half trucker.

I liked “Tatiana” best, but she hestitated on the “dancing.” I mean I liked her final look. And she chose a good daytime dress.

I LOVE your recaps. I was kind of hoping you’d lay into the scripted feel of the show a little more…but that might be the little devil in me.
