DWTS All Stars Recap: Out of Sync

Scores:
Carrie Ann – 6
Len – 6
Bruno – 6

Mark says it’s not ideal, but they’ll take it. They kind of have to take it. There isn’t really an appeal for the judges’ scores.

Now it’s Hélio and Chelsie dancing a jive. In a not at all scripted moment, Chelsie says that Hélio is known for being fast. That provides a nice segue way into Hélio and Chelsie at the racetrack. Nothing really interesting happens there. Hélio is really flying under the radar.

Again, this just seemed off to me. Maybe I don’t understand the jive at all. I’m sure it was amazing and they’ll get straight 10s. Carrie Ann says something about Hélio’s body catching up with his charm. I have no idea what that means. Len says that he has “style with a smile.” What is with Len and the rhyming tonight? Bruno called it a delicious treat of a jive. Then he twitches a bit. I wonder if Bruno talks like this when he’s just at home. I like to imagine he does.

Scores
Carrie Ann – 8
Len – 7.5
Bruno – 7.5 (he didn’t yell the HALF this time, so I just wrote it normally)

Apolo and Karina are dancing their quickstep next. Nothing really interesting happens in their rehearsal. They just rehearse. Stop being normal, Apolo! I can’t make fun of you if you’re not a train wreck!

That was definitely the better of the two quicksteps we’ve seen tonight. Granted, it’s not that hard to be better than Bristol.

Len gives Apolo a gold medal! Bruno says something about hard work. He’s pretty calm through this critique, but I still can’t understand him. Carrie Ann thinks that Apolo put on his competition pants tonight.

Scores:
Carrie Ann – 8.5
Len – 8
Bruno – 8
24.5/30

Wait, so Sabrina is now called a “singer”? Seriously, the woman released a dance training video! Just call her what she is – a ringer! Sabrina and Louis are dancing a quickstep and have a boring rehearsal just like Apolo and Karina. Then Louis drops Sabrina and her arm hurts. They have to decide whether or not they will keep that move in the dance.

“Black Betty” seems like a weird song choice for a quickstep. Also, what the fuck was up with the water cooler part in the beginning? Was that planned? It would seem kind of stupid seeing as the audience probably didn’t see that part. Also, the smile that Sabrina had on her face the entire time just didn’t fit with the song or the dance. Other than those few style things, the dance was really good. They looked really tight and together. They kept the scary move in at the end and it worked. It also shows us how well Sabrina’s boob tape works.

Bruno compares Sabrina to Ginger Rogers. Carrie Ann screams a lot. Why is she so amazed that Sabrina is good? The woman is a professional dancer. She SHOULD be good. Len loved the upper body control.

Yeah, I guess Wikipedia is right, as they are always so infallible. Two TV series this year, plus one GMA appearance and one documentary, all as host, aren’t “recently” enough to make someone a TV host. Next time, try checking IMDB.

I call total BS! Bristol should not be on there at all. Joey wasn’t Fred Astaire, but he sure as hell is a better dancer, and much more entertaining! I could see Bristol off to the side at the end of the show, not even getting in there to hug Joey or Kym. All she does is dis people. Look what she said about Julianne Moore! I too really enjoy Kirstie, I think she is fabulous and definitely younger than her age. I think Bristol will last as long as she did last time just because of who she is. I remember last time the judges getting pissed because better dancers were getting voted off. And did you see the sly smile she cast at someone in the audience when she was in jeopardy, as if to say “I’m not worried. I know I’m staying.” I don’t know, maybe that was just me. Anyway, fabulous recap!

Pope, I’m with you, Gilles is SOOOO freakin hot, I was mesmerized by him last time he was on and this time as well. I do love Kirstie though, kinda hoping she and my other hottie Max win.

Bruno’s a psycho but I love that guy! Patty, I so aree with you too, that Bristol s/b gone and not lovable bufoon Joey, I wonder who she paid for the votes!

Really, really, really wanted this season to be about the dancing. What was I thinking of? *sigh*

I, personally, cannot get enough of snark, and would love a recap of the results show. If, you know, something amusing and/or snarkable actually happens…

    THANK YOU for the recaps!!!!

I’ve seen enough interviews with Bruno to know that about 60% of his act on DWTS and act and he’s a rather low key person in real life. It’s weird to see him acting all normal and adult in interviews, although he can get off some good, scathing digs too, and while he can set my teeth on edge occasionally, he’s having a laugh at it. I should want to punch him but I don’t.

I’m not too worried that Bristol will make the finals, because at some point in the middle they’ll no doubt magically have some extra super dance that’s scored in a way to negate her power bloc. The producers have ways of making people leave and even if she has a rabid fanbase, it’s not their entire audience so there’s no need to keep her around once the chaff is gone. Still, I think Drew, Kelly maybe Helio and probably Kirstie should watch their backs.

@Patty: Thanks for joining me on the Kirstie love! I never really cared for Maks. I don’t hate him or anything, I was just always indifferent about him. However, when he’s around her, I adore him! The two of them just work so well together.

@Pat: We need to get everyone at the ‘gasm to vote for Gilles and Kirstie. I want to rally the troops so we can get Bristol away! She may have the Tea Party, but we can be the Keg Party!

@Vallegirl: Thanks for the info on Bruno. I’ve never really seen him in interviews before. Now I’ll be searching YouTube. I’m hoping for the producer manipulation you suggested. Even this early on, I have a feeling Sabrina’s going to win it. It would be the ultimate come back story for this show.

For the record, Sabrina actually IS a singer. She’s mostly famous for being a “Cheetah Girl” from Disney. While that means that of COURSE she can dance, she’s no more of a ringer than Melissa, who danced professionally with the Cowboy Cheerleaders for two seasons. If anything, Melissa’s the ringer, because she HAD to learn how to pick up routines super quickly!

Okay, had to say that, back to reading the recap….

@SaraKate: I know she sings. I love the “Cheetah Girls” more than a woman my age probably should. I just meant that Sabrina has put out at least one instructional/work out dance video, so it bothers me a bit that they’re not really acknowledging that she’s as much of a pro dancer as she is. It seems that this show leaves out stuff like that often with any of the contestants who have a dance background (Joey Fatone, Melissa Rycroft, Nichole Sherzinger [probably spelled wrong], Mel B., etc). I guess it just helps keep up the appearance of “celebrities” learning how to dance only on the show.

They did like to mention that Evan and Kristi Yamaguchi would have to learn choreography for their skating routines, but usually to point out how stiff their hips are and then say “See, they have to unlearn this and aren’t really ringers.”

It’s only the real dancers who never address it.

I would like to point out right off the bat that I am not defending Bristol, but would like to state that part of her issue this week was the lack of actual quickstep choreography in her routine – which would be Mark Balls’ fault, not hers. I don’t think, watching her move, that she is that bad. Should she be on this season or go as far as she did in her original season? No, certainly not. She is not in a league with some of the other dancers, but I don’t find her painful to watch either. With the right choreography (and the professional following the rules of the dance) it could have been a really cute routine.

And while I like Kirstie as much as the next person, I though she sucked balls this week. Yes, I know she is older and good for her for putting herself through this again, but still. Her timing was off, she barely lifted her legs on her flicks and kicks, she forgot the routine; mostly she stood around shaking her fringe while Maks danced around her.

Joey’s dance was entertaining, but lacked actual content. I wasn’t sorry to see him go. There is something about him that I don’t care for, so whatever.

I wonder if this show is like SYTYCD in that the producers are really choosing who goes early on. Keeping Bristol ensures that those who are pissed about it will keep voting, plus it creates drama. Her victim attitude is really annoying. “wah I’d get 6s not matter what”. No, you got 6s because you can’t dance and your pro didn’t give you good choreography. It’s just like her complaining about media attention, while at the same time doing everything possible to stay on television.

I’m hoping for a Gilles win. He should have won his season.

@LurkerB5, you’re such an optimist! Never going to happen.

Is it just me, or is Emmit not as charming as he was first time around?

@lwstermaddox… “she forgot the routine; mostly she stood around shaking her fringe while Maks danced around her”

    And it was awesome.
Man I am digging the Maksim (is that how you spell it?)

Oh, and how about the contrast in musical performances on the results show? First up Cher Lloyd lipsynching an annoying, lame song. Then we have Placido Domingo and Katherine Jenkins. Actual singing talent! I’m not a huge opera fan, but that was beautiful. My husband said that he’d bet the pro dancers (Val and Anna) felt honored to be selected.

Hi Lester! So happy to hear from you. Join us in the forums. I’d love to hear about your grandson…. okay, on to DWTS!

I’m not a Kristie fan. I didn’t care for her on her season and I’m not loving her now. She was a fan favorite though, so I do understand why they have her back, but her Jive was a mess. She should have been in the bottom 2, definitely not Helio. The fact that he was and not Kristie or Bristol, only proves that this is a popularity contest and not a dancing contest. The best dancer is NOT going to win… not even on “ALL-STARS”. We will see more great dancers be eliminated while these two continue on week after week….. sad, but true. I just want to puke.

Oh, I forgot to tell you P-Philly, how much I love that you take the time to add all the dance routines to your recaps. That’s so awesome and such a pain in the ass to do! I appreciate that extra effort. You are the best.

@SaraKate When you’re mentioning celebrities with previous dance experience you can’t forget Jennifer Grey! There are definitely certain celebrities who have careers and past experiences much more applicable to dancing than others. Singers (who often dance on stage), athletes, and certain actors seem to have an advantage on DWTS

@lurkerB5: Consider the extended recapping done! Enjoy next week. :)

@lestermaddox: I think that song would have worked better for something that wasn’t the quickstep. I’m not sure what (I’m not dance expert). Perhaps it would have been better to save it for an appropriate routine. And I agree – Mark should definitely be faulted for the choreography.

@wcsdancer: I’m all for a Gilles win too. If nothing else, it will let me look at him all season. Also, it’s nice that they got some actual vocal talent on the results show. It totally made up for Justin Bieber. Also, the song “Come What May” will win me over every time.

@sheesh: Maks’ pants were so little! It was adorable!

@chooch: Thanks! However, it doesn’t take much time to add the videos of the dance. It’s a matter of copying and pasting a code from YouTube. I mean, I slave for HOURS doing that. In fact, I fly to the show every Monday night just to videotape it all for you. ;)

@DONNA: Good call! I really think they’re setting us up for a Sabrina win. She’s just playing it off.

@sandsweeper: I wish there was some rule that the contestants could have no prior dancing experience, but that would exclude A LOT of people.

    @Finnegan: TEAM ADORABLE ANNA!!!

@Stagemom: It makes me happy that calling someone “50 Shades of [adjective]” is a thing. I don’t know why, but it makes me laugh. :)

The song that Bristol chose (wtf – since when was the song choice up to the celeb?!) is great for country two-step. Quickstep…not so much. Clearly.

I am sick of seeing Bristol, we know Momma has the state of Ak voting for her. No talent, personality zip.
Go earn a living at something you are good at, without Momma pulling strings for you. Really tired of all the Palin drama. Go back to your lives and be quiet.
