DWTS All-Stars Recap: Semi Five-nals

RESULTS!

Hooray! The results show is only an hour. Watching four hours of this show was killing me. It’s a double elimination night again tonight. Two of our couples will be going home. Our encore tonight is Apolo and Karina. I think that was a good choice. It was a great dance, and I don’t think Apolo has been getting enough credit this season.

Group 1:
Sean and Derek – GOING TO THE FINALS!

We’re all really surprised about that, right? No one thought that those two would be in the finals. They’ve been the underdog couple all season.

We have a chick from New Zealand performing some filler dance. She tells us that you don’t really think of “dance” when you think of New Zealand. Apparently, between Utah and New Zealand, no one is thinking about dance. I mean, I don’t really think of the opposite of dance when I think of New Zealand. I’m not sure why every thinks we’ll be surprised that there are dancers all over the place.

This is the first thing that comes up when I did a GIS for “New Zealand dance.”

The Wanted are performing. Should I know who they are? Is that the music the kids are listening to these days? Hold on, some kids are on my lawn. I should go yell at them.

I feel fine not know who they are.

Group 2:
Apolo and Karina – ELIMINATED!
Melissa and Tony –  GOING TO THE FINALS!

Damn. I’m sad to see Apolo go. There’s just something really likable about him. I just want to sit and have a beer with him. He just seems like he’s really humble and down-to-earth. He takes his loss gracefully as you’d expect him to do.

PAULA ABDUL IS BACK!!!!! This time, she’s performing. Yeah, Paul is all types of crazy, but there is no denying that the woman is a LEGEND! When it comes to dancing and choreography, it’s hard to top her.  

MC SKAT KAT!!!!! That alone made it the best thing that has ever been on this show. I totally danced around my apartment while this was playing. “Cold Hearted Snake” was one of my favorite songs when I was a kid. The special effects were kind of cheesy, but it worked with Paula Abdul’s music. Also, there was a giant Maks and Paula took out his kneecap. I really like that Paula is laughing at the end of the routine. She knew how silly it was. She may be insane, but I think she’s in on the joke. 

Can MC Skat Kat please replace both Derek and Mark?

Derek dances with some people and I don’t really give a shit. In fact, I take this time to give Lindsey (the cat) the belly rubs she’s been begging for.

Group 3:
Kelly and Val – GOING TO THE FINALS!
Emmitt and Cheryle – ELIMINATED!

Like Apolo, Emmitt exists with class and charm. How can I make fun of this if no throws a temper tantrum when they leave? This is why I was hoping for a Shawn and Derek elimination. I have a feeling they would have acted like little kids. Well, Derek probably. I think Shawn probably has more self respect.

So, next week is the finals and it’ll be a ladies night. Our couples will be dancing an instant dance as well as a super-sized freestyle. In the freestyle, they can use any other dancers they want. That could be kind of cool…or a disaster. There will be no in between with that one.

I still would like to do a live-Tweet or a live-Facebook shindig for the finals. Anyone interested? Let me know which works best for any of you who are interested. I already have a PopePhilly Twitter account and will gladly create a PopePhilly Facebook page if we have interest and more people can do that.

For now, that’s it. Have a great Thanksgiving to those of you in the U.S. and Canada. I’m pretty sure Canada celebrates the same time we in the U.S. do – please correct me if I’m wrong. Catch you guys next week!

Aside from making fun of reality television on a weekly basis, PopePhilly is a legal assistant by day and avid kickball player by night (well, at least on Thursdays). On the nerd front, she is an active member of the forensic speech and debate community. She spends her time judging at tournaments throughout the country and serving on the board of directors for the West Chester University alumni chapter of Pi Kappa Delta (yes, speech nerds get to pretend to be cool by having Greek letters).

    Great recap! I would love to see Melissa and Tony win this year – can’t stand Derek and don’t think that Kelly should be there (sob – Apolo – sob). I also want to wish any American readers a Happy Thanksgiving. We already had our Thanksgiving up here in Canada back on October 8th. Be careful out there on Black Friday – there be crazy people out there!

    I think Melissa is really annoying but I want her to win because I like Tony. I’d even e good with Kelly winning. Just as long as Derek gets the smug wiped off his face.

    Yep, Boogie, right there with ya. I was really rooting for Apolo and Karina. I happen to like her and she did some really good choreo with him. I’m just *meh* about Melissa, but it would be great to see Tony win.

    Sorry I’m late. Once again we are ‘nsync Philly! Tonight is the finals and we will get to see the ‘freestyle’ dances. I’m always super excited to see what the pros come up with for us. I’m sure Derek will fill his and Shawn’s dance with lots of gymnastic jumps and leaps. Tony and Melissa will bring on the lifts and fast dancing classics. As for Val and Kelly, I think they are going to go for the hot and sexy with him carrying her around and both of them will be almost naked.

    It’s been a disappointing season considering it was the much anticipated “All-Stars”. The fact that Bristol Palin was even on the show was the first sign of it. Truly great dancers went home while she stayed. It wasn’t fun to watch and that made a lot of viewers tune out.

    The BEST part is that we had YOU PopePhilly, for our recapper this season! You are, by far, the best DWTS recapper TVgasm has ever had. I hope you do it again next season.

    nooo Apolo’s out. He’s been gradually growing on me all season and he was one of the couples I wanted to make it to the finals. adishfpaosdk if Derek and Shawn win again….. Hoping Tony has better luck this season! He deserves it for all those crappy partners!
    I recognized the dancers in Derek’s number! It was Allison Holker, Melanie Moore, and Kathryn McCormick from sytycd!!!

    @Pikey: I feel the same way about Tony. He’s had so many useless partners over the years – it’s time for him to get what he deserves. I did a little shopping on Black Friday – it wasn’t too bad. Then again, I didn’t go out first thing in the morning.

    @Boogie wiggles: TEAM ANYONE BUT DEREK!

    @wcsdancer: I kind of feel the same way now that Apolo is gone. Of all the former champs, he was the one I wouldn’t have minded taking the win.

    @Madani: Maybe we shouldn’t say “TEAM ANYONE BUT DEREK!” With my luck, they’d let Bristol come back and take the win.

    @choch850: Thanks for the love! I’ll probably be back for the next season because everyone hates recapping this show (mainly because of how time consuming it can be) and I’m a big pushover. When Flipit asks for someone to recap it, I’ll most likely say yes. :)

    @wcsdancer: It’s just a mash-up of letters that one makes when banging one’s head against the keyboard. I was trying to be silly and repeat the exact pattern that kron used. :)
