Face Off Recap: Heroic Proportions

Day 2 begins and EricF is working on his piece and decides to make an exposed working lung piece which sounds awesome. He has a bit of a lisp and looks like he smells like gravy and pickles but damn is he talented. Alam’s piece looks like one wrong move and someone is dying because there are a ton of glass shard pieces sticking out. She hasn’t used the materials before and is unsure of how to really work with it but doing it for the first time in a competition is smart. I kind of like Anthony but he seems like the kind of guy that will let you take advantage of him and then tell you thank you. He is like a living version of Ned Flanders. Katie for some reason thinks that if she tells herself that the feel of her work should look homemade since her character is a homemade vigilante then it won’t look or feel like a cop out. Spoiler Alert: That never works.

The last day arrives and Anthony has yet to mold his chest and back piece which is a huge focal point of his character. Has anyone ever waited until day 3 to mold pieces on this show because this seems like a huge first fail. Of course he isn’t able to get it out and instead of being like everyone else that has ever appeared on this show, he decides against bothering others for help and opts for Plan B. Seriously. He really is Ned Flanders. Alam is having the most trouble trying to get her back piece to stick to her model and holy shit…the back of the model’s head literally looks like a bucket of semen was dropped on it. Time for Last Looks and Alam is still trying to get the back piece to fit and it looks like she gave up and just painted his back blue. Meagan’s arm pieces aren’t sticking so she uses duct tape to keep them down which is a huge no-no and I can’t wait to hear how many times Glenn brings it up.

Why the FUCK is Autumn wearing blue lipstick and how does that even exist? I have a feeling she raids her kids closet for outfits and ideas on how to dress. Looking at the judges face’s, I felt as though they all agreed with what I was seeing…and that was some of the worst superheroes ever. Fat Wolvie’s dude looks terrible and when he did his ninja kick I kind of hoped that he would lose some applications or something but alas he only had on that terrible mask. Kris’ character has a terrible costume and a huge head, Wayne’s guy looks like an albino Jamaican and Anthony’s character is suffocating and breathing out of his mouth heavily. Good god what the fuck was Meagan thinking with that character? Her concept was just…and then she attaches twin towers on the arms with VISIBLE DUCT TAPE. House’s looks kind of interesting and modern but I don’t know how much she would fit within the DC universe. I thought Autumn did a great job until they got up close and it looked like some shit her kid painted with her fingers. Alam basically created Pale Freakazoid and Alex’s looks like the thing from Star Wars and it was performing a mime routine. Jenna’s looks like a craft project gone wrong, Katie’s is too homemade looking and the face is disproportioned while EricZ’s has a huge masturbation arm. EricF is definitely my favorite of the group and the only one that kind of makes sense.

I liked Alam’s idea, but it was a total fail. Why didnt she make a backpack-thing with the ice spikes, THEN put the skin over that, to cover up the straps
World Trade Center hero was also a complete fail. Now that I think if it, NONE of these really reminded me of any kind of superhero. Ehh.

EricF is really growing on me. I like his humor and he’s pretty talented.

Also, I think it’s a requirement on this show for at least 1 girl to have hair dyed so friggin bright red, it’ll burn your retina. Megan, Alana…enough already!

Glad Woverine is gone. He sucked, and so did that mask. And yes……..MASK. That’s all he managed to make in 3 days.

Thought this episode was a fail. In my opinion, none of the characters were truly super heroes. The one with the glass shards started out as a cool idea and then was a HUGE fail. Can’t believe she dodged a bullet and didn’t even have to explain why her model’s back was painted blue. I guess it just goes to show just how awful they all were that this one was neither great nor awful. Mostly they reminded me of horror characters and can’t really see myself wanting to be saved by any of them! Sorry to see Wolvie go only because I have been enjoying SG”s comments about his hair and wardrobe and I was wanting to see how many more times he would mention his brother.

What were Wolvie and Glenn talking about when they each said that Wolvie’s mask was “based on the old-fashioned plate doctor”?

This showing was so stunningly bad…everyone’s was a hot mess in some way, shape, or form, except for Eric F”s. And then he didn’t even win, which was crazy to me.

Anthony’s was painted nicely, but his hero’s body was so ill proportioned. The head and shoulders were huge and the rest of the person was normal. It was really obvious that the torso seriously needed to be filled out, in order to balance the rest of what was happening on top. I do like him though, so I laughed at his random and honestly unexpected victory.

I’m sure everything looked even worse in person, if Alam’s back piece not even making it onto the stage was honestly not the most egregious offense up there in the judges eyes. Meagan’s piece was stupid from the word go. I think she just wanted to get extra points for honoring 9/11, like Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close tried to do last year. They needed to kick her off just for trying to pull that shit and the failing so horribly at technically executing the character. At least ELaIC was not an abject failure.

The giant arm on Eric Z’s person was horrible. Like a bad rip-off of Derek’s piece for the Dishonored challenge last season.

I wish I could snatch Eric F. up, put him in a bath of soap, hot hot hot water and bleach, and give him a good scrubbing with a plastic sponge. Glen is also welcome to get in on the bath action.

I’m only sad about Fat Wolfie going because he was good to make fun of.
Realistically, his piece sucked. I thought it was a cool idea, but the fact that he only made the mask and then couldn’t even execute it nicely is sad. It’s pretty much a toucan beak. If he can’t make a good toucan beak with all those materials and shit available to him, then yeah…it was time to go.

The female DC Artist needed a better bra. I hate when people wear bras that don’t fit.

Autumn’s kind of made me gasp at first. From the light color, it looked like her superheroine’s cooch was out in the breeze, which would have made her kind of unique…..

I am really like EricF so far and while I do wish I could also deep clean him, it fits his personality and it won’t stop him from getting work in his field so c’est la vie. I do have to snark on it from time to time but he’s really good at what he does.

Aunt Dorsey the lady parts of Autumn’s caught my eye at first too, so ill fitted…terrible costuming.

Next year I demand either violet or green hair. DEMAND. Red is played out.

I am outraged that Alam didn’t called out for having a completely INCOMPLETE look. Total bullshit. She may not have gotten sent home, but at least put her in the bottom. That being said, all of those other 3 people deserved to be there as well.
As much as I like Anthony, I was shocked he won. The win definitely should’ve gone to Eric F. Dude has talent. Those working lungs looked amazing.
Not sad to see Wolvie go, I would’ve been happy with any of them to go home. Overall it was just bad. The first week I thought they were all so talented and the pieces are all so well made. This week, it definitely went off the rails. Let’s hope next week is better.

Well, unless something really freaky happens, I’m going with Eric F. for the win. He’s like a Goth Punk Nerd.

And I have blond hair with hot pink tips. Solves the ‘root’ issue and I can hide them by wearing it up in a twist if I want to. Just sayin’.

I think Eric F is talented, but those lungs were gross!!! ew . . . I saw the comic version of anthony’s and it works quite well. Maybe they should have held off on this one till more of the fodder was cut . . . like, they totes could have cut all three bottoms, except, Wolfie should have gone week 1, and maybe Troy could have trumped Alam . . . . it was a shame the glass didn’t work, it looked pretty cool, but yes, heavy . . . and nothing sucks worse than trying to glue something last minute that ain’t sticking, it always goes from bad to worse.

Must say, I didn’t notice the ball huggers, but I guess there has to be a modicum of attraction for me to even look . . . Glenn . . . um, no . . .

Kris’ costume was atrocious–that giant red diaper was just silly. I liked Anthony’s paint job, but I really would have liked to see his breast and back plates. I liked House’s and Eric F.’s better. But, it was all kind of a let down after the previous week.

I wish they were held accountable for all their waste. It would be so much better if they were give a certain amount of credits for each challenge, and had to use those credits to buy materials, foam, glue, fabric, etc.

Also, these characters only have to last for a couple of hours (the judging and photos). Why don’t they have a more realistic challenge, where they have to apply & remove it day one, then reapply it day 2. Make-up is where a lot of continuity in films is lost or kept. Also, why don’t they have a film challenge, where the characters are actually filmed doing something, and that is shown to the judges as well as in person.

I agree, these were not superheros, more like the villains. They all looked very amateurish, at least to me.

This challenge pissed me the hell off. My one vice is comic books. Once a month, I go to the only comic book store I know, almost an hour drive away, and stock up on comics, and if anyone at my house even touches them, I go ballistic. So to see these idiots bastardize superheroes really set me off. Seriously, the mayority of the customers I see in the comic book store are adults, even men in their fifties and sixties, businessmen in fine suits, buying a lot of comic books for themselves. What the hell do these people think a superhero looks like? I’m 30 years old, I grew up watching and reading about superheroes, I do know what superheroes look like, and barely any of these fit the mark.

Wayne’s had a nice hero name, but the fact that it was grey as an old nickel doesn’t fit the “Solarian” name, I was looking for something, you know, sunny. And the cape looked like he got it out of the laundry bag.

Meagan’s was hideous, I saw nothing “American freedom fighter” about it, terribly constructed, and the name is generic as all hell. Considering the face kept coming out like a robot cat, she’d have been better off making it a cyborg Thundercat.

Kris’s also had a bland and generic name that sounds like the title of a bad 80′s sci-fi tv show. I think he was trying to go with an expy of Martian Manhunter, but failed miserably. I saw nothing that said telepath, and the costume looked baggy like rapper wannabe clothes.

Katie named hers ReVolt, and I think she was going for “extra volt of electricity” with that name, but it came across as genuinely revolting. The dude looked like he was at an 80′s punk gathering, got punched in the face and it got swollen. And the mask was just hideous. Katie said she wanted to go for a look that said her superhero was a kid sneaking out and saving the day, so she wanted a “homemade” feel to the mask. Yeah, you know who else was a teen that made his own costume starting out? Spider-Man, and his is a classic. Katie dropped the ball hard.

Jenna had a nice idea and I liked her superhero name, but the execution was all sorts of messy, it looked like an assortment of tropical birds crashed on some random woman in a bad suit.

House’s was one of the best ones indeed, but starting off, her name is generic as fuck. I guess he couldn’t go for Cyborgirl, as DC already had a villain named like that. I liked the execution, but she didn’t look like a superhero at all, more like a villain, or the main character in some bizarre Japanese movie

Fat Wolvie’s. Wow, just wow. The execution in this one was all sorts of awful and he definitely deserved to be kicked off. First off, the name. He couldn not have failed more epically at choosing a name for a superhero. The backstory was fucked up too. And the execution failed on all aspects He looked like a hobo with a terrible mask on. First he made a huge dunce cap in episode one, now he makes a mask with a long-ass beak nose. Am I the only one who thinks he’s trying to overcompensate for something?

Eric Z’s one looked like something out of a bad Resident Evil game. Not much else to say.

EricF’s looked close to a superhero, but too gray and dark. I know he was going for a noir feel, but to me, noir just doesn’t work on superheroes. The design was cool, especially the exposed inner organs that moved, but something felt lacking. Also, that name sounds more appropriate for a gay porn star than a superhero.

Autumn, had a nice superhero name, looked okay from afar, but up cloe it was all sorts of messy, disjointed, and I did not understand the face.

Anthony, I got no idea why he won. The head was okay, but that was about it. The proportions were all wrong, the name was terrible, it just did not feel like a superhero. I wonder which DC comic he will be in, but I’ll bet that his appearance will be as a D-list superhero who gets killed off in the very same issue he first appears in.

Alex’s had a nice name and an overall cool look, certainly something I could see as a sea-based superhero, but she really screwed up by trying to make the tentacle head.

Alam’s was a disaster, and I too am surprised she wasn’t in the bottom. Other than a lame name, she did have a good concept and it could have worked had she managed everything better, namely make the “shards” smaller so she could better distribute them through the entire body rather than just the back, arms and head. I guess the only reason she didn’t land in the bottom was because her concept was one of the closest to an actual superhero and the face did look pretty good.

^Katie pretty much stole her character from Static Shock.
The only difference is that her person is a punk kid and Static Shock is an urban youth.
When she explained her concept, I was like….but I used to watch that tv show on Saturdays when I was a kid so….
