Face Off Recap: Howl at the Moon

Home

Slowayne pulled an almost win last week but not quite as he didn’t complete the challenge so Kris won on technicality. What a shitty way to win but he took it like a champ which was made easy since Wayne didn’t understand that he kind of won. Kid is slow. Alam was sadly sent away and we open this week with everyone missing her bubbly personality. Meagan turns the attention onto herself and how she was scared and needs to prove herself while EricF compares her moth to Joe Dirt being held in a headlock. The artists are dragged out into the middle of some random woods to hopefully re-enact Deliverance but instead meet with Gale Anne Hurd and Mac who then unleash zombies that decimate all of them. I wish…instead Mac announces that the Foundation Challenge will be to work in teams of two to transform 20 actors into zombies.

Everyone starts working on transforming their models into zombies using various techniques and tricks to speed along. Anthony and Meagan are working well with each other although Anthony, aka Ned Flanders, just lets Meagan basically lead and trample him while he stands around interviewing how great butterflies and unicorns are. Meagan on the other hand takes her frustrations on creating shitty work out on the models by slapping them with blood. House and EricZ must have sped through because they had enough time to create a zombie with his arm chewed off…or maybe Wayne got a little hungry and they fed him part of the arm. Slowayne and EricF do a great job with Eric doing most of the work because Wayne was off in La La Land again. It’s a breeze for Eric who looks half dead most of the time anyway. Autumn and Kris struggle to work together because Autumn is a steamroller and instead of walking her ass out to get her own sponges, she demands that Kris stop what he is doing to fetch her some or produce them out of his ass. Gale goes around and judges everyone and ends up picking Meagan and Anthony as the top team and then cursing us for another week by giving the immunity to Slap Happy Meagan. Later on, Mac meets everyone outside in a dark ass field where they all get abducted and this season is declared a bust and ends abruptly….She announces that the next Spotlight Challenge is to create an alien werewolf based off of another planet in the solar system. How the fuck do you have Uranus as a choice but no one selects it? URANUS! Production should have really stepped in on that one..I mean come on it’s even highlighted green for them to see clearly amongst the others!

Teams and Planets
House and Meagan – Mars

Eric Z and Autumn – Jupiter
Eric F and Anthony – Saturn
Wayne and Kris – Neptune

I wish someone had come up with something super original for this challenge. The blue werewolf was cool, but they basically just went directly from a super cold planet to ice appears blue. I guess I just wanted someone to think outside the ‘wolf’ box. Yes, it was a werewolf challenge, but they are on another planet and how those moons effect them. Basically more of a shape shifter.

I know this is a SyFy show but I wish more of the challenges were less in the horror/gore genre and explored more of other types of creatures. Remember the Star Wars challenge last season, that was great. This other planet challenge would have been nice if as a team they not only had to develop a creature that lived on the planet but anther of what it looked like when the moon was full.

What’s with chicks named Megan on this show? I swear, déjà vu here!

I was more than ready for Autumn to leave the show. Personality aside, I really didn’t care for her work. I find something endearing about Mohawk Eric but I wish he would focus a bit rather than attempting these huge concepts. Walking backwards? Really?!?

Carol, I tend to agree with you here. I liked the Star Wars challenge as well as the Tim Burton one. Remember the Grimm challenge? Create something that fits the story – loved it! There has to be more than zombies, werewolves and aliens! (oh my!)

I still enjoy this show but, so far, haven’t had that Wow! moment like in seasons past – the body painting challenges come to mind but can’t remember the season or winner (the burned wood with the woman stands out as does the wall of shoes!). Oh! One more thing. I think I liked it better when the judges went in and previewed the work. Nothing against Mac’s Daddy but… I miss those \I’m really worried about X but A has a great idea\ chats. That could just be me?

My favorite challenge was when they had to paint the models into a background.

I don’t think I liked any of the werewolves this time around. The blue one’s neck seemed awfully long to me. Which looked cartoonish. JMO.
Thank God Autumn is finally gone, now it’s Megan’s turn to go….

I had to look it up but Season 1 had Anthony win with petrified wood body painting and season 2 had Matt with the wall of sneakers. Those challenges were great! Glad I’m not alone on that! ; D

Thanks for the recap SG. I’ll have to go catch the episode. Not sorry to hear that the lovely Autumn is gone. My favorite memory of her is when her blonde partner was aghast (sorry can’t remember her name) that Autumn was expecting a standing O for that atrocious face sculpt she did on the daemon and then poormouthed when the boys got kudos for their horns. Which were fabulous and Autumn snarked that she couldn’t see it. I truly thought she was delusional then, and needed to hit the highway.

I think the show’s designers are showing a little lack of creativity coming up with the challenges.

I agree that they need to have challenges that are not always horror related. The makeup film industry is alot more then just doing horror makeup. How about doing a good old age makeup or change the race or sex of the model. Another one is to make someone up to look like a famous person. They also need to do some challenges when they have a film maker come by to tell them what they want there makeup to look like because most of the time when you work in the idustry you have to work for someone.

So much of what these contestants are doing looks alike. I’m finding this show increasingly boring.

The second-chance-loser-elimination-round was ‘vampire glam rockstars’ a la David Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust period. Autumn wasted her usual amount of time whining loudly in her nasal monotone–probably for the entire two-hour challenge. Jenna did deserve to win but Katie (who won round 1 which was Star Trek themed) whined that she should have won, because after all Jenna was the reason she was sent home. ?!? Ya, right…. Another delusional looney tune. Jenna said she had had a procedure to fix her hands after she was sent home. I liked Alam’s, but she lost points for not using prosthetics. (I don’t see why….but the Warthog did not approve.)

So, to prolong the torture while I was there, I watched Autumn’s extended farewell and that skank took the opportunity to flog her partner Erik for ‘throwing her under the bus’, because she says she checked with him at every step along the way on her crap project. Sure she did. She is a piece of work. Ya, she was all butt hurt at his betrayal of her and bitter. Her face might freeze like that. Too late…..

Good luck getting a job, Autumn . . . be sure to put Glenn on your referral list . . .

Agree with all, werewolves are more than played out . . . even alien ones. Yawn.

    Thanks for the cap, SG!

    Yeah, this challenge was stupid.
There are only so many things you can do with a werewolf, design-wise.
You’ve seen one werewolf, you’ve seen them all.
If they wanted to do an alien version of an iconic horror creature, they would have been much better off with a vampire.

And then even the winner was not that great. The color was beautiful, but it looked so weird. Like a rubber Halloween suit. And the neck was absurdly long for no reason. They should have just had a normal-sized werewolf and focused on making it look good,
I’m not sure why everyone this season has that mindset of bigger is better, but it needs to stop.

The only good thing to happen was that the judges saw right through Autumn’s bullshit and sent her home. I was annoyed that Meagan was saved because she does not deserve to be there, but between her and Autumn, Autumn is easily the greater evil. I feel sorry for her daughter….can you imagine being raised by such a miserable shrew of a woman?
