Face Off Recap: Make It Reign

We are back bitches and this season promises to be bigger and better and from the looks of the previews…they aren’t fucking around. Syfy renewed the show for a fourth season during the middle of season three which was one of their highest rated seasons yet. Oh and drinking game alert! Every time Anthony says “Thank You” take a shot…if you’re of age of course. If you aren’t do some jumping jacks or something…I don’t know underage kids probably shouldn’t be reading this in the first place.

Mackenzie…just because you have a bigger budget doesn’t mean you should go overboard on the spray tan girl! Wearing a white dress probably doesn’t help your cause either. We get introduced to a few of the contestants and then one of them makes the most obvious comment of the day. Alex states that this is a very diverse group of people with Prom Queens and Goth Kids. Just because Eric looks like he’ll sniff your underwear for inspiration doesn’t mean you need to be scared of him girl. He just wants people to look at him even though his work speaks for itself. Oh wait, maybe she was talking about Fat Wolverine. He just wants to get out from under his brother’s shadow even though no one would have known he was related to Matt from Season 2. Mac meets the contestants on the haunted Queen Mary where the first challenge is to pick a crown and create a queen using it as inspiration. Everyone is ignoring Mac and focusing in on the crown they want which will best represent their creativity. The winner will receive immunity and this week’s judge is Michael Westmore, Mac’s daddy who has done some amazing work and will also be this season’s mentor. Most likely because Ve and Glenn were busy working on Catching Fire and couldn’t be bothered to pretend to care about what the contestants were working on.

Alam should be next to go, or Kris. And did anyone notice how the editing B-rolled half the cast – pretty much telling us who’d be going home soon? The long timers got a minute to walk up to the others on the Queen Mary and VoiceOver about their experience, but the others were just rushed through during the foundation challenge. I’m really excited about what PunkEric will show.

Yeah! It’s back. There seems to be a lot of talent this season. I thought House’s Ice Goblin King should have been in the top three. The volcano king was bad but at least it was finished unlike the swamp king. One of them should have gone home. JMO.

Firstly, my heart is broken at the lack of Patrick Tatopoulous in this show.
I thought he was just taking a break to work on other stuff last season, but Mac didn’t mention him at all this go-round, so is he not coming back?
I’m so sad…Neville Page is nice and all, but he’s not Patrick. :(
How cute was John Rhys Davies though? I loved when he told the model not to strain his knees. I want to put him in my pocket.

Thank you for calling Matt’s brother (forgot his name) Fat Wolverine. As soon as he came on, I thought to myself, now why the fuck does he look like Wolverine, if Wolverine got fired from the X-men, gave up on life, and sat around his apartment consuming pizza and beer all day? So glad that someone else saw it.
Someone ought to tell him that if he wants to surpass his more attractive, more talented, and cooler brother, he should maybe start by not styling his hair after a Marvel superhero.

    Aw, I like Anthony!
I think he’s cute, and will probably do well this season, unless he pulls a Sarah and starts sucking for no apparent reason. Hopefully, he wasn’t raised mennonite or on a space station or some shit.
Other favorites are Eric Z. (so adorable!), Eric F, Alam, and Jenna.
I also think Wayne will also be interesting to watch, even though he was playing tooo many games with his time management.
But I blame that on Alex, who will be the useless Alana for this season. I just know she will.

Troy was 100% not ready for this shit.
They only brought him for cannon fodder/diversity.
Why are there no good black effects artists? We always fail on Face Off smh.

I am thoroughly disappointed that House is not grizzled, nor does he have a cane, nor is he secretly Hugh Laurie. I’m just saying, the show would be slightly more exciting if one of them had a vicious addiction to vicodin that led them into a spiral of ticking time bomb waiting to go off on somebody. Or, you know, makeup.

That Ice Goblin was well done, but looked just like the Snow Miser from A Year Without Christmas. I kept waiting for him to break out into the song during the reveal. Perhaps not a purposeful rip-off, but likely inspired by subliminal memories. Too bad no one made the Heat Miser.

I thought the ice goblin looked like a live action version of the ice king from adventure time

I wish I had advance copies of the show so we could play the drinking game in advance. It’s okay I got wasted on my own having to re-watch it to write the recap. This season’s group seems pretty talented compared to previous groups so I’m excited. I think they ditched the live finale along with Patrick for some reason. The budget for them must have went to Mac’s spray tan fees.

I didn’t get drunk on your drinking game, but I got drunk on mine, where I drink every time somebody says, “I could go home.”

The live finale was lame, and I’m glad it’s not coming back.

@Beebs-that is a DANGEROUS version to play! Best of luck to you in future episodes!

Overall, I thought the challenge was a good one. There were some seriously stupid challenges last season. I LOVED that John Rhyes Davis was the judge! My heart leapt as I squealed my LOTR nerd glee at Gimli! He was a great judge. I loved when he corrected himself about ever wearing prosthetic again.

I can’t really remember everyone’s name, but I like Anthony so far. He’s my early bet. The mom from Jersey, or whatever, the one that does it “part time” because she’s a stay-at-home mom. She bugs me. Mostly because of her voice.

I’m hopeful for better challenges than last season.

I loved John Rhys Davies as a guest judge. My favorite was the bit about not straining your knees because you’ll need them for the next 70 years.

Anthony is my favorite so far. That’s how I know he won’t win (my favorite never does).

I don’t know all the names yet either. I did think Woverine should have been cut tho, at least troy did a sculpt, and I kind of liked how there were brighter areas in the face paint that looked kind of glow-ey.

I think Alum is out of her league here . . . do they just feel the need to cast pretty girls for the audience or something? Nothing against her, she’s not annoying, but she really does not seem confident at all.

I think there’s more cannon fodder still in the ranks . . . we’ll have to see. Good to see all you gasmi here commenting, and many thanks SG . . . I’m liking the bluntness!!!

Anthony was very sweet and humble . . . I hope he does well!
