Face Off Recap: Scene of the Crime

Last week Sarah finally went home after weeks of weak designs and executions. This week is probably one of my favorite challenges because if you didn’t know, I kind of love Grimm! The contestants get to meet up with Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Mac in the forest where there are several crime scenes hidden around. The challenge is to determine and create the creature that committed the crime based on the crime scene they choose. Monroe tells them to really think of each creature because they all kill differently and that it is a dark world out there. Each contestant has 30 minutes once they claim their crime scene to get inspired and sketch out a design. I kind of wish Silas was the guest judge this week but at least we got to see him for a few seconds!

Everyone rushes to pick their sketchbooks up and then to claim the perfect crime scene since the three winners will move on to the finale. Derek runs up to a scene with a biker who has slash marks and puncture wounds so he immediately thinks of a werewolf which is what he had wanted to do. He looks around a little more and realizes that there are feathers and quickly changes his design to a bird-like creature. Roy and Laura walk up to the same scene but Roy leaves it to survey the others. Laura takes a peek and notices venom injection marks and realizes it would be a snake-like creature so she runs off to another scene because she doesn’t want to do it. Nicole finds a picnic scene with claw marks and fur and takes the werewolf that Derek wanted. Laura runs over to where Roy is and grabs the number to ensure she won’t get the snake which now belongs to Roy by default.

Laura’s crime scene is covered in spider webs and her victim has bite marks and allergic reactions. Instead of going the traditional spider route, Laura decides to do a hybrid bug with spider attributes. She know she has to do something that people can’t forget since it’s almost the end. Roy ends up with the snake creature that he passed up earlier and decides to do a female biker snake. This is about the point where I realize that the victims are actual models with make-up applications. Seriously I thought they were mannequins or dummies but then I saw that Roy’s victim was breathing. I know I’m not the only one and also why do they keep thinking that this is a snake? Don’t snakes live birth so how do you explain the egg? I’m over thinking this right? Derek’s creature will be a raptor that has evolved instead of becoming extinct and Nicole is sort of floundering on a back story.

I was so sad that Roy didn’t make it to the final three! His wig was horrible and the fangs not positioned in the mouth did him in. I guess now I’m routing for Nicole to take it all. I loved the crime scenes (big Grimm fan myself).

Roy was off his game. That leather outfit was so Village People.

Roy may have been off his game, but he has been the most consistent performer, IMHO. I really wanted him to be in the final. I like Laura a lot as well. Derek has had great weeks and poor weeks and I could have seen him being eliminated. I have mixed feelings about Nicole. I thought she went home too soon, but I am not happy that she made the final three after basically getting a break.

Derek has been way too inconsistent for me – I thought he should have been out and Roy been in. And I’m rooting for Laura.

Some species of snakes give live birth, but most do lay eggs. Seems like the typical pet-snakes, like cornsnakes an boas, don’t lay eggs though.

Roy should definitely not have gone home. Like mentioned above, Derek has had his ups and downs while Roy has been in the top two basically every week. Plus Nicole has been good, but not great, and missed several challenges while on “vacation”. If anyone but Laura wins the finale with these three in it, I’m going to be a bit p*ssed.

Roy should have gone thru to the finals he was the most consistent. This episode is the only time he was in the bottom. Eric has been in the bottom numerous of times he seems to do only men makup he is not verstile. I am rooting for Laura she has been the best of whos left.

I will be voting for Laura regardless for a few reasons.

    Besides Roy, Laura has;
1: Never been on the bottom.
2: Her work has been consistent.
3: Oh right, Laura never got kicked, went home and practiced for about 2 weeks while everyone else stayed at the coal mines… Unlike *cough* Nicole.

Just to name a few. ;-)

On a side note – I like Derek, he does OK work and he does deserve to be part of the final 3… But, he has not been as consistent as Laura by a long shot.

Laura and Roy have been my favorites since the beginning with Derek in 3rd. Nicole I never liked (other than her fab hair). At first I thought, oh they are playing with us and all 4 are going thru. Yes Roy’s wig was an unfortunate decisson but it was still way better than Nicole’s ears that were glued to her wig. I love that Roy was such a gentleman always offering his help and expert tricks. I know they are letting fans vote for winner but is there going to be a fan favorite? Roy would win in a landslide.

I agree with prairie. If not for Roy AND Rod, a number of contestants final makeups would not have been as good as they were. Unfortunately, this makes the case for why contestants on these reality competition shows should not help their castmates. While I was not surprised at Rod going home (he made his own face over and over and over…….) Roy should still be there. And if there is a fan favorite, he gets my vote.

I am SO angry that Roy didn’t make it through! Like Prairie and Timgunnssister, my household was asking how many contestants wouldn’t have made it if not for Roy. Grrrr.

My jaw literally dropped when I heard Nicole was in the finale. Yes, she got better, but Roy did MORE than her and for the most part was more consistent. He was robbed.
    Laura for the win!

My theory is they want Laura to win, so they put her against inconsistant Derek, and “back in” Nicole. Laura deserves it, I have liked her and her work, but I too cry for Roy . . . and I blame Glenn!!!

I do think Grimm is mainly CGI, but there are fight scenes sometimes where they make up the stunt person to resemble the CGI. You can tell if you look close . . . I find the FX just ok on Grimm . . . you all should check out the recaps for it . . . so dry, so funny, so snarky!!! Go Madelyne27 !!!

So disappointed at the loss of Roy! He did great work, challenged himself, and was really nice about helping his fellow contestants (his advice to Laura about webbing this week being just one example). His creature this week was a little disappointing the in the hair and fangs, but the makeup was great. I would’ve picked him over Derek judging on overall work and him over Nicole for this week: werewolves are very done, even if the crime scene clues pointed that way, her ears weren’t even glued down, and the costuming didn’t make sense.

That said, Roy did get a lot of exposure, which hopefully will help him in his career.

I am sure like Jennifer Hudson on Idol ROY will be the breakout star and go further in his career…Nicole was allowed to cheat her way thru and everyone else was always asking Roy for his opinion or help…GO ROY! Wish I could have seen your creation i the finale…how about an allstars version of Face/Off???
