Face Off Recap: Two Heads Are Better Than One

Last week was so underwhelming I sort of pushed it out of my brain but anyway it was Alex who got sent home even though Autumn clearly should have been booted. This week opens with the artists meeting up with Mac at Six Flags where they meet the guest judge this week who is none other than Bryan Singer. SyFy shouts out Jack the Giant Slayer with this week’s challenge by making the artists create two headed giants in teams of two. You gotta love shows centered around advertising and marketing. I’m surprised they didn’t have Nicholas Holt turn up to guest judge but he might be too busy crying into a pint of Ben and Jerry’s since Jennifer Lawrence dumped him recently.

The teams are as follows:

Alam and EricZ
Kris and EricF
Meagan and Jenna
Wayne and House
Autumn and Anthony

The groups take a few moments to gather inspiration from a huge ass Redwood Tree in the middle of the park. House has to resort to hand gestures to keep Slow Wayne’s attention on him. Concentration is hard, ya’ll. Meagan is worried about the time constraints because JENNA’S HAND HURTS. JENNA’S HAND HURTS and that is why she can’t work as fast as she wants to or as efficiently. Anthony also wants to do something different from the others so he opts for a more contorted head and several mutations. Alam and Eric want their giant to have their heads on their feet as if the giant slays other giants and then wears them as shoes. I didn’t really get the concept but Alam seemed all in so I think that fooled Eric into thinking it was a good thing. Autumn says she feels like she is on vacation since she is partnered with Anthony…yeah does she realize this is a competition? I just don’t get her. Kris and Eric are going large scale in that their giant is almost 12 feet tall and has to be sketched out on the floor. It will either be the biggest failure or the biggest piece ever in Face Off history.

Anthony is a smart cookie. He decides to fool Autumn into thinking she has all the control because he knows if he pushes her too far that her annoyingness will come out more. Personal shout-out to him for sparing the rest of us the wrath of Squeaks McGee. However he needs a haircut stat because I can’t with his feathery flowing mane. Autumn worries that Anthony will get most of the credit but isn’t she the one that thought she was on vacation by being teamed with him? House realizes that his partner is Slow Wayne so he scraps one of the three planned head sculpts and opts to do a two header like everyone else in order to get it completed on time. The best part is that House’s way of micromanaging is working simultaneously on the same sculpt with Wayne. That way he can discipline him in real time on what he is doing wrong and make up for his lack of speed. Seriously, Wayne has no sense of urgency. Mac and her dad stop by on Day 2 and walk around to inspect what everyone is doing. Mac Daddy points out a lot of flaws in everyone’s design except Alam and Eric…He must have visited them last and got tired of giving out advice. He points out that Eric had timing issues last time…did he forget that was because he was paired with Sloayne? Mac rushes him out because it’s past his bedtime and he gets cranky if he doesn’t have 14 hours of sleep.

Jenna was one of my favorites in the beginning, but she really needed to go home.
We only got the edited version of her hand woes, and I was already sick to fucking death of hearing about it. I can’t imagine what the people who lived with her had to be going through, hearing about that hand day in and day out.

But overall, I think this week was much better than the past couple of weeks.
Only Jenna and Meagan’s piece was irredeemable…Alam and Eric Z had a bad idea, but it was at least executed well.
I’m happy that Eric F. finally won something.

    I like Anthony’s flowing locks.

And unrelated to Face Off, did you see that Best Ink is coming back for another season?
This time, Pete Wentz is the host. Because he is so much better qualified than Kim Caldwell.

I really really hate that Autum got hooked up with Anthony and that she actually believes all that work was equal. UGH

Jenna did need to go, she should have gone over the other girl the last time her hands f’d up a team project.

SO happy Freaky Erik won a challenge finally!

It would have been pretty ridiculous had they not gotten rid of Jenna. She pretty much asked them to send her home. Which, bully for her that she finally stepped up. It’s super unfortunate that you’re dealing with this medical issue, but when it is directly affecting your work, go home.

I was glad to see Freaky Erik take home a win. He deserved one. I think that if Anthony would have won, we would have had to hear Autumn complain that it was HER sculpt and that she should’ve won.

Erik F, OMG!!! that was frikin’ amazing!!! Maybe one of the best things I’ve ever seen on this show . . . in all the seasons. Super clever, and wow . . . what a lot of work. I do remember Roy from last season who did a lot of fabrication and was also amazing.

That hand would have been chopped off if I was working with her . . . .”You said it was numb, so I didn’t think you’d feel it . .. ” at least she fell on the sword. I’m with Chaos, If I had to hear about the hand one more time, I told my friend to use it for a drinking game when he watches.

I’d be okay with a double elimination next week.

I’m surprised no one said Erik and Alum’s heads looked like monster slippers!

I heart EricF – not only are his concepts crazy good he was Jenna and Meagans knight in shining armor who spared free time he clearly didn’t have (given his teams awesomely ambitious creation) to help them unmold their rightfully deserved losing monsterpiece.

Love, LOVE LOVE Eric and Kris’ giant! Totally reminded me of something from “Where the Wild Things Are”. I am becoming a big EricF fan, I just love his enthusiasm and talent.

Jenna needed to go home weeks ago, in place of the other red-haired girl. Her hand was setting her back and it got worse challenge after challenge. I feel bad for her because of that, but she really needed to go big time.

EricZ and Alam’s giant…the feet reminded me of the Invader Zim slippers I got for my neice this Christmas. It would have been funny if they put him in a robe, and PJ’s too.

I seem to be the only person who hated Eric F and Kris’s gigantic abomination. I don’t get it, it looked so horrible and unfinished. What I love the most about these make-ups is when I get to see the person’s face and/or eyes through it, when they can show emotion and/or movement. That huge mess looked like something someone would buy at some Halloween store. The actor’s head poking out was just dumb as hell. The two heads had no movement to them, the “body” of the actor that the giant was holding was so disproportionate with the actor’s head that it was painful. I think the judges were just so taken with the size of it that they threw aside all semblance of a good job. Worst decision I’ve seen them make, seriously.

I, too, loved Eric and Kris’s giant. I felt it was a really awesome concept and had they had more time, it would have been even more amazing than it was.

And I was so over whats-her-name’s hand. She clearly knew it was an issue from before the show so why did she accept?

Interchangeable Wayne and Kris seem to be stepping up a bit more while Anthony seems to be getting more and more confused. I think that so many early wins mean the judges expect more from him than the other artists. That’s wrong but it’s also understandable.

And why is Meagan still here?
