Face Off Recap: Who’s the New Who?

Day 3 and Laura is working on her final details while Derek is able to apply his pieces immediately. He takes his time to make sure his edges are clean but has issues around the mouth area and then he gets worried that he didn’t do enough pieces. Alana’s pieces are think and bulgy and her paint techniques are kind of sucking again this week. She plugs along though because she says she isn’t a quitter, well that’s a great attitude at least. Nicole ends up hating her fun fur because she thinks it looks too chicken-like (and it does, her model even does a chicken dance) while Roy’s costume is a bit too tight. Time for judging! Did I already mention that Brian Grazer looks like the Grinch because he really does…and how old is he with that Jersey Shore blowout?

Sarah

Roy

Nicole

Laura

Derek

Alana

Roy’s piece captured the essence in the face and Glenn congratulates him on his ambition as he is impressed with the amount of work Roy put into his piece. Neville says the piece really makes him smile and Brian says that as a director there is a lot to work with. Nicole’s piece feels like it really plugs into the world of Suess and Brian really likes the hands and hair piece. Glenn says for once that he doesn’t hate the fun fur because of how Nicole brought the airbrush paint into it. Brian points out that Derek’s face is out of balance because of the size of the hair versus the face while Glenn says the paint is tragic. Ve notes that he changed the wig from the previous day and that it now misses the mark. Alana starts off by confessing she had a hard time and wishes she could reset the clock and do it all over again. Glenn actually says that it is refreshing that she is aware of how much she fucked up and then tells her that the paint is a morbid failure. Ve adds that there are no soft feminine touches. Laura’s piece is liked overall and Ve really enjoys her color palette while Neville likes the face sculpting she did with the airbrush. Sarah’s piece is called Beetlejuicy and Brian says that it has no Suessian heartbeat. Glenn is disappointed because she didn’t do a body piece and just covered her model in big pajamas…oh does her ass hurt from that bite?

Nicole ends up winning which is huge for her since she was just let back into the competition while Alana, thankfully, is finally going home. Ve does tell her to stay in touch because she can’t wait to see her progress and she tells them thank you for the most stress she has had all year. So are you glad Alana is out or did someone else deserve to go? Whose going to get your vote during the live finale? What’s with Brian’s hair??

Face Off Drinking game: Drink every time one of the contestants says, “I could go home” or some variation thereof. Seriously, so annoying. We get it. You could go home. That’s the nature of a reality show contest.

Brian Grazer has looked that way forever – it may actually be natural.

I had come to the conclusion at the beginning of this episode (or at the end of the last one, actually) that I simply could not take one more The Alana Show. Her neediness was simply becoming too distracting and her confessionals way too often. I don’t know if the issue is 1) her youth, b) her lack of talent or c) growing up being able to manipulate most people but I found myself muting the tv each time she spoke. So glad she’s gone.

As to the others, what happened to the wig Derek made? If Ve says it’s fabulous, you LEAVE IT ALONE. Sarah has talent but her lack of confidence will probably do her in. And her costumes are usually better than her makeup! Good thing she already won that money. Laura is seriously talented. He sculpting and use of color is amazing. I’m glad Nicole is back – I feel she went home too soon. Roy’s was okay but a little creepy. Actually, I find many Seuss characters creepy so I guess he was spot on.

2 guys and 3 girls – maybe the buzz about a woman being slated to win is accurate.

Soooo I guess now that Rod’s gone we don’t get to see anymore of his gorgeous model. Sigh…
I really hope Nicole or Laura win! And I refuse to give Joe’s comment about a woman winning because the show’s rigged any merit. It’s about time a girl won and you know if its Laura or Nicole they’ll actually do something with it, like the first season winner did. I mean what’s Rayce been up to since he won?

Lol that guy’s hair was my favorite. It was like a being in itself.

I thought this challenge was very “blah”. They were basing their creations on other Suess creations. Why not just have them create something original that will fit in with the Suess world, instead of putting their own twist on a character that already exsists? Ehhh.

@ timgunn, I was also getting tired of Alana’s “woe is me” attitude, and I think you are right…it was a combo of all three that got on my nerves. Especially being able to get just about anyone to help her. Once or twice is cool, but every freakin’ challenge? Ehh

Laura is kicking some butt, and I love it! I also like Roy too, he is mega-talented.

ahhhhhh Rod’s model :( we hardly knew ya

Roy’s downfall will be trying to do too much. I’ve liked Laura and Roy since the beginning. Either winning is fine by me.

Wait, don’t the contestants chose different models each week? Rod’s model could still be there.

@See-Jay, agreed and good point. They usually do select the heads off the shelf, but perhaps, as the comp has gone on, they have gotten to know the models and like their company, or style.

I’m happy to see Laura and Nicole doing so well, and I’ve been a fan of Roy’s from the beginning. I’d hire all three!!!

Alana seems to have stumbled when she couldn’t get enough help. She did have a challenge with her character, but honesty, they seemed to reward the suessian stuff . . . her’s reminded me of the baby pics in the flowers . . . she should have just been literal and got on with it. The bodies were easy, as they only had to costume them.

    I did think that droopy belly was fugly . . . sorry Roy . . .

I just spent an hour trying to find out the hot model’s name (multitasking is so much fun). The names aren’t posted anywhere. The full credits are not on SyFy’s site. I tried watching the episode on the site and pausing on the credits, but they don’t even show the credits on their own site. I will try again when I am at one of my friend’s homes who records in on their dvr. I did find one of the models from the body paining challenge last season, not sure if it is the same guy or not, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3970480/

I will keep hunting if that is not the guy, I don’t think it is.
