Gigantor said that she wished she had called him that sooner. He was always “selling” himself, when all along, he had a perfect “built-in” POV- he had lost over 100 lbs, his Health and Welness POV was brilliant. I can’t believe that Captain Pickle, after having watched the series himself, would not recognize how sales-y and preacher-y he came off?
Nikki asked if they were hard on her because they knew she could take it? Um… she could? She welled up with tears whenever she was criticized.

<sniff, sniff>
She should have taken a lesson from Martie- she got beaten by Alton on a daily basis and never cracked. Bob replied “I wish I was harder on you and on everyone.” These contestants needed tough love in a very short amount of time.
Ok, we are 12 minutes to 10pm here… and they ask the remaining people why they should win?
Justin says he is honored and excited to get people excited about turning things upside down.
Gangster says her love of New England is so great, and it’s not just about the food, but about its history and its people. It makes her happy.
Yvan says, for him, it’s all about family and he would love to be a part of the Food Network Family and he wants everyone to take time to be with their family.
Bob comments, each contestant has star qualities. And they bring out Brooke Johnson, President of Food Network, who resembles a banged-up Lily Tomlin, to announce the winner.

Who let Lily Tomlin in here?
The Next Food Network Star is: JUSTIN WARNER aka Vampoor.

Winner Winner Foie Gras Dinner
Vampoor says “It’s amazing. I never thought I would be accepted by America!”

Proud Mentor
Alton feels like a proud papa and says “I like your spirit, kid.”
Everyone hugs, Nikki makes out with Bobby, Rock and Roll’s space ship blasts off to return him to his home galaxy and Martie keeps talking and talking and talking…
-Fade Out-
Oh! Here’s is the prediction I wrote down before the Finale started:

Honestly, this was my favorite season of this show. It usually is so pointless really because the cooks who come on it can barely cook and their whole deal was to choose someone who can be a personality and who wants to watch a cooking show from someone who can’t cook? But Food Network was majoring in that (Robin Miller anyone? I seriously doubt she knows what food even tastes like and may possibly not even be human). But this season they all seemed to really have cooking chops and I liked the mentoring format, especially since I liked the mentors. Thank God they didn’t choose Paula Deen or Guy Fieri because I would have had to completely skip it if they had, they are both unwatchable. But these three are very good, and the team idea was brilliant IMO. So good season overall.
And I LOVE Justin. I really do. I would have been fine with any of the final three (Marti can get off my TV, she seems nice but I am so bored by her) but when they announced Justin my little heart grew three sizes. I hope he does very well, he’s so young and so earnest and his food is so interesting. He deserves his success.
I felt sorry for Michelle and Yvan though, because they deserved it too and didn’t get it. But very glad it was Justin.
Okay, seriously now, am I the only person out there who hates Justin? What the fuck do people see in that dull entity? The guy has zero personality, he’s as wooden as a ventriloquist dummy, which is extremely fitting with his ultra red lips and product-sploshed hair. Plus, he looks like Butt-Head. Seriously, go watch Beavis & Butt-Head right now, tell me he don’t look like Butt-Head, only with no personality and boring as all hell. I don’t know, his food doesn’t interest me, he’s got no redeeming qualities, I just plain fail to see why everybody fell in love with him.
Really? I think he’s adorable. He’s like a little Alton, jr. He’s the anti-Fieri/Deen. I want to take him home with me and make sure he’s eating well and getting enough sleep. I guess that’s the mom in me.
I loved this season. The “mentors” was a good, freah idea. (which isn’t going over so well on Big Brother).
I kinda agree with Chris. Justin is different and unique and all that, but I have no desire to watch his show. I don’t want to learn to cook like he does. It sounds complicated and expensive. As for Michele, I wouldn’t watch her show either. I’m not a fan of New England-style food and that seems to be all she’s got. There are only so many ways to make clams and she always had a hard time with them. I did love Marti. She was a talker and that’s good on TV, but her pilot show sucked. She never showed us how she made any of her food, especially the marinade for the shrimp… and not one party tip. We already have Sandra Lee anyways. This is why Yvan should have won. His POV was the best, his pilot show was so good, I actually tried his mac & cheese recipe and it was awesome! He explained to so well, I could make it from his demo. I would watch his show. Simple and easy and not expensive to make.
I wasn’t able to catch the finale and made sure I was unspoiled heading into this recap. I exclaimed “Yes!” at J-Vamps win, accompanied by a tiny fist pump.
I think he’s unique, and that’s more then I can say about the majority of folks on FN.
Yay for Vampoor! I’ve enjoyed this season more than past seasons for the same reasons @andyourlittledogtoo listed. I’m not a huge fan of Bobby or Giada, but they’re way better than Butter Deen and Fieri. Alton is awesome always.
MisRed, thanks for giving me many laughs thru your writing and photos. You’ve done a great job and I hope to read more from you here at the gasm.
I can see why you would be reluctant to try Justin’s dishes, because they’re kinda crazy, but I SO want to make his funky caeser salad! I would have been happy with either Justin OR Yvan winning…both of them have great POV’s, and I would totally make their food. I’m hoping Yvan gets a show on the Cooking Channel, so I get to watch him, too!
OK, did anyone see Justin on 24 Hour Restaurant in the past year? He was an arrogant, awful JERK. I’m not sure which personality is the real personality. Doesn’t matter, I suppose. I just find it interesting.
I think America got it right with naming Justin as the winner, although I still think Ippy’s show would have been the most interesting to me.
@SMH Yes I saw him on “24 Hour Restaurant Battle” and hated him!! When he walked out on the first episode of NFNS I screamed “Not that douche!” He was an arrogant ass and treated his girlfriend so poorly. He did grow on me a little during this season, but who knows who the real Justin is.
Andyourlittledogtoo, I agree with you about Justin’s appeal being that he’s the anti-Fieri/Dean… especially with how much Fieri/Dean grate on my nerves. X-) I was a fan of Good Eats during its entire run, and I’m glad they’re bringing back that style of show.
It seems to me that it doesn’t really matter what he’s cooking, but rather the entertainment value of watching him do so. From the beginning, I was really hoping to see Ippy win, but once he was eliminated, Justin was my next pick, so if it couldn’t be Ippy, I’m glad it was Justin. I’ve never actually watched a single, solitary episode of any of the winners’ shows before, but I actually have intentions of watching this one.
I remember when Michelle was on Chopped she said she wanted to be the “female Anthony Bourdain,” and I expect that she will appear on Cooking Channel with some such show in the near future. We’ll also see Marty and Yvan there, eventually. I actually thought they all did a pretty good job with their pilots. Justin’s was the least watchable, though.
And Nikki – obvi Bobbi has a hard-on for her or has some personal connection, but has there been any one LESS likeable on this show, ever?
@bellicosebaby
i think that girl last season..her name was penny i think? yeah she was less likeable to me!
lol, what a complete and total surprise.
But I’m happy that he won and I might even watch his show from time to time. But why did he come to the finale dressed as the lovechild of Howdy Doody?
My favorite part of this episode though was Ippy’s looks. He was clearly NOT trying to be in that room…a perfect example is the screencap of Team Cheerleader. Everyone else is smiling and Ippy is looking miserable and wholly unconcerned.
And when Bob was recounting the beatdown he received at Gigantor’s hands in Ippy’s name, Ippy also looked kind of scary. I feel like he’s not at laid-back as he pretends to be, or maybe TNFNS has turned him into a bitter little coconut.
Ivan was looking kind of delicious. I was pleasantly surprised.
@chaosbutterfly – I thought the same thing about Yvan, damn he looks fine with some hair (stay away from the crew cuts Yvan!) And I caught Ippy’s sour pusses too. I hope Bobby hires that unemployed chef (can’t remember his name) the one who quit his job to be on TNFNS. He seemed to be very talented in the kitchen although I don’t know if he had enough carisma to carry a show.
Maybe Ippy was as bored as we were watching this stupid hour of TV. Lord they dragged this sh%t out! Anyway, I also liked Ippy because I liked his style of food. I never had a problem with Nikki–I thought she was good, actually.
We’ll see about Justin. His food never interested me, but I think they’ll shape and mold him thoroughly and do his writing, so the show will turn out fine.
I absolutely loved your recaps, MisRed…thank you!
@TVKimmy: I wish I had only done a tiny fist pump…heh heh, but I actually jumped out of my chair and and whooped out loud. I think my sister across town heard me.
@chaosbutterfly: I might actually watch it, too! Vampires RULE!
I think we saw the real Justin. He is VERY young and has that combination of cockiness and vulnerability that young men sometimes have at that time of their lives. Some never outgrow it. But it is quite possible that he saw himself on the Restaurant Wars show (and I now remember him from there, hard to believe it’s the same guy) and realized he was being a jerk and is trying to grow up and be a better person. I realize that’s pretty speculative and people do fake it but I really didn’t get the impression from Justin on NFNS that he was faking anything or that he was secretly a jerk. And he got along well with the other contestants, especially Marti, and Alton liked him. So I think he’s a genuinely good kid that just needed to grow up a little bit and mature.
Anyway, that’s my take on him. I truly wish him well. And I will tune in to see his show. I may not make what he cooks but I think I’ll enjoy watching him do it and probably pick up some interesting pointers. He’s an original and that is refreshing for FN.
I noticed Ippy’s bitchface too. I don’t know what that was about but it really startled me. At least pretend to be gracious and have a good time dude!
