Gallery Girls Recap: I’m Not Sorry

Last week we had to deal with Kerri and Amy competing at work, EOC’s new gallery about complicated clouds, Liz’s past as a coked out party girl and her relationship with her father and Amy holding Maggie hostage in a dirty bathroom.

Speaking of dirty, we open in Liz’s apartment which has shit everywhere with her claiming she like just moved in. Bitch that was like 3 weeks ago and you still have unopened boxes and clothes and home goods strewn around. Kerri enlists her mother to help sort out all the shit so she can throw a housewarming party. Instead her mom tells her to throw out her sweater because it has a hole in it. Kerri instead curls up on her dirty couch and says all her things have holes in them…really? Later outside of a hotel after meeting “John”, Kerri calls Maggie to invite her to her housewarming party. Maggie, not able to do anything alone, tells her she wants to bring Liz because she already had plans with her that evening and Kerri agrees to it. Maggie explains that she hasn’t had a chance to get to know Kerri but she seems nice. I think she secretly wants to judge her apartment and see what she could never afford.

What have you been doing instead of cleaning and unpacking for 3 weeks?

Maggie and her friend with terrible eyebrows are toasting champagne because it’s her birthday and this is their tradition. She discusses it being her first birthday celebrated with Ryan and how special it will be. How come she can afford an iPhone but she can’t afford a case to protect it? Seriously irks me when people don’t have cases on their phones like you can eBay that shit for $3. Later, Ryan takes her out to dinner and they argue about wine and how red will mess up Maggie’s veneers (I knew those chicklets were fake). She even complains because he didn’t get her a cupcake from Crumbs. Maggie kind of complains the entire time about how Ryan is basically a pussy and doesn’t take charge like her other boyfriends and that she isn’t used to dating such a passive person. I guess that is why she is attracted to Eli because he takes delight in ordering her around and being in charge.

Frat boys are only attractive when in college.

Maggie’s friends like pretending they have money and Ryan’s friends are stuck in college phase but she’s decided to mix them all for her birthday. Ryan’s friends are douchebags and two beers short of an attempted rape. They all get completely hammered and start play wrestling, pretending to fuck the air and just lose all sorts of maturity points in the bowling alley. Maggie reprimands Ryan for making her look foolish and then later meets with Liz to bitch about how much she loves Ryan but how he fucked up her birthday by not trying hard enough. Liz doesn’t understand why Maggie stays with someone that treats her so terribly but that’s because Liz has self confidence and Maggie does not. Liz says that even though she comes from a rich family she knows how to stick up for herself and Maggie needs to grow a spine.

I’d be embarrassed too.

Stop mentioning Angela? YES PLEASE! Great recap, still trying to figure out if I like any of them…

I honestly don’t think Maggie’s boyfriend treats her badly. Sure he’s a bit fratboy-ish, but if not being completely spoiled unnecessarily by your boyfriend and not being allowed to act like a total entitled brat is being treated badly, well, no wonder so many women have a hard time finding a “good” man. I rather hang out with Ryan and his fratty friends any day of the week over her faux-pretentious girlfriends and her c atty, badly dressed flaming homosexual friends.

Angela gets worse every episode. How does she exist and not have someone punch her in her ugly mouth every week? I don’t want you to stop talking about her simply bc I want to hear your snark about her. She is so awful.

Kerri’s new apt this week, in my view, solidified your idea that shes a high class call girl. That apartment is INSANE. This is the kind of stuff that makes people think that you can come to NYC and do some BS job and live like that.

I felt bad for oatmeal faced amy this week bc Liz is judgy and she doesn’t really have room to be judgy. She was in REHAB for the love of god, and she’s yelling at a girl for getting a wasted and having some fun. They are 24 years old give me a break. Liz tries to act like she is some established, mature 35 year old with her own career and it’s like, everything you have is because of your dad, and, you are only 24. Get over yourself. I still find her honesty refereshing though.

Maggie talks weird, and I think shes on some serious metal meds. She was talking about how she was just drinking and having fun for her bday and even my boyfriend, who never pics up on this stuff, goes “yeah, you really look like it” bc she rarely exhibits any emotion about ANYTHING. Valium will do that to you.

Agreeing with you Katie– Maggie is a spoiled entitled brat with out defined goals (her intership is dragging on for how long???) The bf is a frat-boy. The take charge guy you want is Eli or some other older guy with alot of money.

Liz dumps on Amy like her own father dumps on her. (There I said it. I am still wondering just how much leghal trouble Liz got herself into. Her dad is really pissed at her.) Liz be nice to Amy– she is at heart a nice girl who tries too hard. The cupcakes are a nice gesture and your “gluten-free” diet I believe to be real–there are alot of bitches who are deeming themselves gluten-allergic as a diet means.

Two seconds of Lara (or whatever her name is), Angela go away please, Claudia–you can do better than hipster Spenser and his faux-glasses, Chantal–take your non-Oregon pinot and go away too.

And rounding out our gals– Kerri—yep– hooker-dom. She made references last episode to being able to “hustle”. I know what that means– I grew up on Long Island too honey.

I know I have seen Eli on A RHNYC episode or two. He probably is under contract to show up at a few events.

I think the real reason Liz gets so annoyed with Amy is because she’s stealing part of her “moment.” Think about it. Liz is having her 15 minutes of “fame” on TV. Usually, when something like this happens, everyone you ever knew comes out of the woodwork. But because Amy is also in on the show, Liz doesn’t have all the spotlight from friends back home in Miami (apparently, they grew up together and presumably ran in the same circles).

As for Amy giving compliments- I’m the exact same way. It could be read as fake or ass kissing but I know that I am always genuine when I say nice things to others. I like to be optimistic, look for the good in people and make them feel good about themselves. Liz needs to learn that not every person is a liar. Some people might try too hard but they care. That’s not a fault. Humankind could use more people who are like this.

Is Amy uncomfortable in her skin? Of course she is. So are most girls in their 20s. But being nice to people is a lot better of a way to handle it than being rude or harsh. Despite the assertive facade that Liz puts on, she’s obviously not fully confident in herself or she wouldn’t feel the need to judge every person that crosses her path. Which is worse? Being overly nice or overly critical?

Don’t stop mentioning Angela! She is comedy gold and provides some of the best material for recapping!

I thought Chantal was SOMEWHAT pretty when the cast pictures were released but as I’ve gotten to know her, what I did find attractive was obscured by her horrible personality. Now, when I look at her, I don’t see a 90s pixie but a boy-shaped troll.

    Thoughts:

    Chantal- Don’t like
Maggie- I strongly dislike. I can’t even with this one.
Claudia- I think I really like her. I think she’s beautiful and seems to have a soul.
Angela- Don’t like but enjoy hearing her ridiculous comments that reveal her insecurities
Liz- I like but see right through her tough girl act
    Amy- I sympathize with
Kerri- I like but she’s undoubtedly a call girl

I CAN NOT WAIT FOR SUCKLORD! I totally loved him on Work of Art!!! :)

Forgot to mention Spencer and his ilk. I’ll say it-what kind of woman is attracted to such emasculated, skinny, faux-homo men? It’s one thing to be gay and like boys, fine. It’s another thing to look and act gay, but presumably like women. They are just AWFUL. I can’t even imagine what sleeping with them would be like besides miserable. There is not a single aspect of their existence that I would think is attractive to a woman who likes men. I picture them failing at everything a man is supposed to be good at; Killing bugs, protecting you in times of danger, being able to take charge in a situation. I live in NYC so I see it all the time but daaayum every time I just am baffled by the idea that women date these….things. I want to assign a new gender entirely to them.

I didn’t really address Chantal in my first comment. She is so affected. She thinks she is some sort of worldly being but as far as I have heard, she hasn’t even left this country AND she is from the backwoods of GA. I mean, who do you think you are? A real New Yorker would eat her for breakfast, and I would gladly watch.

Claudia is sort of whatever, but her face kind of annoys me. It doesn’t annoy me as much as Amy’s face, but its close. I think they both look like they are mentally challenged (Amy moreso then Claudia).

I would like to reiterate how much I hate Angela. It’s hard for me sometimes to even believe people like her exist in a non-ironic way. She won’t date a guy who doesn’t have an iPhone and a Gmail address? How is it possible that her brain works in that way? Why does she think it’s ok to wear things that look like brontosaurus skin? Does she realize that her fashion is basically man-repellant?

I honestly couldn’t get over the sorority slut party they had either. Doesnt there have to be more then 5 people to consider a gathering a “party”? Should you maybe leave your teeny tiny apt to go somewhere to hang out instead of throwing cake around and making cliched assumptions about sorority girls? (some of which are true I will admit that).

Chantal…Ugh…she thinks she’s so cute and such an “it” girl…can’t stand her or the way she talks in that Drew Barrymore way..(except Drew is actually cute when she does it). OMG…Angela when she said that sorority girls try to act like Sex In the City, I was like who are you fooling? I think Anglea tries to be a mixture of Carrie (her weird ass outfits) and Samantha (sex crazed). Liz I like but I do think she’s too harsh on Amy, no need to hate on someone like that. Maggie – Eh. Claudia – Eh Amy…feel sorry for the girl.

OMG @ Katie I feel the same way about Chantal. She just screams affectation. From the way she stands slightly stooped to the way she speaks. She, like, goes to yogaaa twice a week and then, like, has cappuccino and puts on all black and goes to the gallery. I bet her real name is Carol or something equally non-exotic sounding.

I haven’t quite pegged what Maggie’s deal is. Why is she still at Eli’s gallery unless it’s for the sake of the show? It would force interaction between her and Liz.

Amy’s face is amorphous. It’s just an oval blob with blond 70′s hair. And she’s got an annoying adnoidal voice. She may think she’s just being nice but I think some of the stuff she says in her talking heads is obnoxious. If that’s a sample of what she’s like IRL I can see where Liz might be coming from. For example, “I wear nice clothes. So, sue me.” Seriously? And, girlfriend, you do drink too much if you don’t remember that you drank too much!

Liz – love. What’s not to?
Maggie – growing on me. I had this sick vision in my wad that she & Eli are like star-crossed fifty shades of grey lovahs (I know, it’s sick & I apologize for the mental image)
Angela – yawn. Trying too hard to be loved or hated.. So indifferent
    Claud – rooting for/ pity
Amy – I’m not convinced she’s not a husky guy in drag
Chantal – mesmermized! I’m convinced she very well could be Mary Kate Olson doing performance art. THINK about it… You NEVER see them in the same place…!

Scouse brows are getting popular in NYC!

Maybe Kerri had a secretly rich relative that up and died? And left her a fortune. That she tried to give to her parents. But they said no the old auntie wanted you to go after your art dream.
Plus we’ve got this house here on Long Island. But remember the $ comes with a curse from the auntie. Where it will disappear from the bank if you ever get highlights.

The minute the girl from Brooklyn started saying she couldn’t believe how large Kerri’s apt. was .. I thought BINGO..escort $$$..my theory is sooo true.
I am sooo sick of Angela saying over and over ..”my parents are both doctors”..ENOUGH ..and you are a loser .. if she wants a venue for her photo.s she should do what every emerging artist does in the city ..find a spot on the sidewalk…remember the artist Bethany bought the American flag from? He had a credit card machine etc and really nice paintings ( behind the flag one) and he was on a street corner…although I do believe Angela would wind up selling herself..the slut!
    Maggie..no backbone a hot mess
Amy..should go to AA meetings..perhaps she might also make some friends.

Not quite getting all the Liz love. She is a ThunderCunt on the highest level and her bitchiness for no reason does not amuse me. I hated her from the ‘I’ll tell my daddy’ line in epi 1. Yet her surprising compassion for Maggie softened me towards her until I figured out Maggie is a stage 2 thundercunt & deserves no compassion what so ever. I do find it amusing that the epitome of a doormat somehow looks down on Amy & mocks her to her face. I honestly found Liz tolerable until this episode. Her treatment of Amy was not cute or bad ass or funny & it seemed overly harsh & unwarranted, and it’s ultimate mean girl treatment. She looked like the cool girl that ridiculed someone who dared to think she was good enough to be in her circle and it wasn’t a good look. Her refusing to even look at Amy while she’s talking to her was disgusting imo.

Amy is an insecure odd duck that was never pretty enough in her own eyes. She uses her dad’s money as a cloak to try to make herself feel important when she’s clearly not. She’s not the best looking chickadee & her throwing money at her looks isn’t helping them. BUT she’s harmless! I think she looks up to Liz and really wants her approval and anyone looking at her can see she means well. Liz picks on her because it’s easy.

And I’m sorry, but am I the only one that can NOT take Chan-tall seriously? She is SO ridiculous lol. When she’s on the screen talking about her grandness I just laugh at her & say ‘bless her heart, she thinks she’s cute and smart and somehow relevant, and it’s adorable’. I mean she can’t be serious with this crap, right?
