In New York, Rachel apologizes to Cassie. Cassie points out that she picks on her students because she wants them to be ready for real life. The good news is that school policy dictates that Rachel be put on probation, not kicked out.
Sam and Brittany have a nice heart-to-heart in the auditorium. Brittany has obviously been shopping at Costco because she has a big ass box of pop tarts. Sam tells her that she is trying to hit rock bottom so she can come back. Let me get this straight. She is trying to ruin her life on purpose just so she can come back. Maybe Becky is one up on her. In a disturbing side note, Brittany tells Sam how she misses Santana’s laugh and the smell of her armpits.
Since it’s time for the comeback, Brittany tells Sue that she has to reinstate her on the Cheerios. According to the school by-laws, the senior class president is in office until they graduate. Since she never graduated, she is still president. She drafted a new rule that Brittany has to be put back on the squad. Also – Schuester and Emma are tutoring her, so Sue gives in and lets her back.
Rachel and Kurt are hanging out in their new place. Rachel is upset because she hasn’t heard from Finn. As they are getting ready to go out, Brody stops by with flowers. Kurt leaves them alone, which I don’t get at all. She’s dating your step-brother and friend. Shouldn’t he be anti-Rachel hooking up with Brody? Anyway, Brody tells her that she is sexy and he tries to kiss her. Rachel stops him because she is still in love with Finn. Brody says that he will respect her boundaries, but will still want her.
After his talk with Puck, Jake decides to join Glee club. He asks Marly if he can sit next to her, but Kitty interrupts with the news that she is dating Jake. Heartbroken, Marly walks away. Jake goes in to Glee club and is greeted by everyone. Just when we thought the episode was over, Marly wants to sing one more song, which I honestly have now clue what it was. It did allow a nice montage of events: Brittany staring at a laptop showing Santana offline; Rachel painting over Finn’s name on a wall; Brody watching Rachel in dance class.
Well, it seems like this season will be interesting, I just wish they would ease up on making Unique into a horrible stereotype. I could also stand to see less Rachel and more McKinley. I hope you all enjoyed the recap and can’t wait for next(this) week. I promise that this week’s will be more on time:)

They said in the premire that Tina and Mike broke up. The interviewer guy asked her about it.
Great recap. I really loved Britney and Kiki =)
” I’m kind of waiting for her to pull a chain and water to pour over hear. Come on – let’s hear it for the Flashdance reference!”
You called out your own reference… We don’t do that here!!!
I agree that the finnchel (what a horrible name for a fandom) stuff is harped on way too much. and while I find her extremely tiresome, I have an incredible weakness for rachel’s performances. she really has “it” when she sings & most of the time it is like she’s channeling barbara, which is no mean feat. I wish that it were just her songs interspersed with more scenes from mckinley. your “everyone who feels like it, come on over” comment really made me giggle!
there was a joke last episode about tina getting a tattoo saying “mike chang forever” to “make change forever” on her hip because he dumped her after he moved away to college.
that “1, 2, 3″ song, believe it or not – is about britbrit having a fantasy about having/watching a threesome with peter, paul & mary! I read something about it around a year ago when I was doing all kinds of reading about the ‘hidden in plain sight’ meanings behind her music/videos. but it’s an actual fact, the article was written by some music critic that had interviewed her about it. it’s very strange, the video is terrible & even glee’s cuteness couldn’t save it. they obviously tried to channel the folksy-ness of peter, paul & mary, but nothing can wipe away the creepiness factor of the people who sang “puff, the magic dragon” having sex together for me.
I would ♥ it so much if artie & brittany got back together. I don’t know why but they were possibly my favorite couple. and goddamnit, I miss puck.
I’m not liking the dual format of this season… it just makes no sense. Why not spinoff a new series for Rachel/Kurt/NYC? (I’m a big fan of Rachel/Lea Michele, but then, I always found Streisand to be really sexy).
But that would leave us with this kind of a dud cast… none of these people are all that interesting to watch. Dreadlocks dude acts like a Cap’n Crunch cereal box (at least they got rid of the Irish kid). And the drag queen character is just ridiculous — there’s no way in hell any school would allow that. Even if he is the best singer on the show now.
The “strange bars” the Cheerios were dancing with in their opening number were “guns” that cheer groups use now, rather than more realistic-looking guns (for many obvious reasons).
I assumed Kurt wasn’t anti-Brodie because Finn moved on and he just hasn’t told Rachel.
this show is loseing something….it used to be i’d cheer for the students..now i just yawn……….
britney now looks like a girl in her mid 20′s pretending to be a teen……..
I’m liking this season so far. I think Marly is a nice change from the everyone look at me Rachel. I do find it funny that Unique moved across Ohio to go to McKinley. Vocal Adreniline is from Akron….in eastern Ohio. Ryan Murphy must not look at a map.
Brody…YUM!
Whenever Rachel brings up Finn to Kurt, Kurt swiftly changes the subject. I think Finn’s been communicating with him more than he has been with Rachel, because Kurt definitely knows something that she doesn’t.
(I still think what Finn did in the s3 finale was a d*** move, telling her they were going to get married and then breaking up with her in the car, telling her he was going into the Army, and shoving her on a train to New York while she was having a panic attack. Smooth move, Finn!)
Jake said “I’m not my brother” last week, yet that’s pretty much what he seems to be, minus the Mohawk. Puck was fond of Rachel, as Jake seemed to be fond of Marley, but in the end, it never works out for them. Oh, well.
I think I’m the only one hoping for a Tina/Artie reunion, but Word of God says it’s not going to happen. Sigh, I miss the s1 days of Tina/Artie and no Finchel and Jesse St. James. I want Jesse St. James back, please bring him back.
At least Sam/Chord Overstreet takes his shirt off in this week’s episode.
Those strange red bars they were dancing with in the opening number are called air blades. Think of them sort of like rifles from drum corps or marching bands. Yes – I am a color guard geek
I agree that they should have made spin off of rachel in college…I find it way more interesting than the Mckinnley kids…its like they just replaced the same characters with the ones who left…they should have taken the opportunity to make some new story lines. And holding Brittney back was I think, a bad move
Unique= Mercedes+Kurt
Kitty= Quinn
Jake=Puck
Marley= Rachel
BORING we already have the characters.
Meanwhile, we have yet to hear Sugar (my favorite character) take a solo. I know she was supposed to sing like shit, but why’d they keep her in Glee ? I’m assuming there’s a ” surprise! I’ve been taking voice lessons!” episode coming up soon.
She’s a hell of a lot more interesting character-wise than most of the others, and she’s one of the few who actually looks like she might still be in high school….
meagan, I too want jesse st. james back! he was so good with rachel. they actually had tons of chemistry together other than finnchel which are almost as interesting as watching paint dry is. only when they sing & finn gets that really cute look on his face (actually usually when he’s on the drums singing to rachel) I can see his charm. I am not missing his character at all, suffice to say.
itchy, sugar’s off-key solo was a highlight for me that season. I smile every time she’s on camera, which is all too little, even less often she gets a line! I hope they have something more fleshed-out for her planned. I am kind of into the other characters – marly is adorbs! – but I dislike jake quite a bit. puck needs to kick his ass more.
The song Blaine and Artie sang was actually a mash-up of “Boyfriend” by Justin Bieber and “Boys” by Britney Spears. (It’s the song the Britney-bot performs at the beginning of one of the Austin Powers movies, if that helps.)
The “counting” song is an acoustic version of a Britney song about group sex.
Also, yes, I am embarrassed that I know these things.
P.S. “Hit Me Baby (One More Time)” was the schoolgirl/stripper video. “Oops, I Did It Again” was the Britney video where she’s on Mars or somewhere in the red leather jumpsuit.
@Whedonite . . . I know the songs too, you are not alone!!! I also know the closing song was the one where she looks like she’s committing suicide in the bathtub. I guess it’s called “Everytime”, but I did have to check.
“Are you in, living in sin is the new thing!” . . . how could Glee make that sound sweet!
I’m also on the, I wish they spun off for the NY show, train! They still might . . . but I think they may need to see how the mixed season goes over. I want Karofsky to show in NY . . . . please Glee gods . . . is it too much to ask!?
I found the table dance to be an homage to “Cold Hearted Snake”, the Paula Abdul video , . . a lot of the psuedo sex dance moves were copped from her. I think even the humping with the table in-between.
I love Unique!!! I’m so happy to see her . . . I would even think most people stumbling on the show would think it is a girl. I don’t really know how schools are today, esp. High Schools, but I’ve heard a lot of stories about transgendered kids going to school as their desired sex, and that the kids are on hormones to delay puberty so they have time to decide which way to go. Apparently, the suicide rate for these kids is huge when they hit puberty. Anyway, my point is, a Unique may not be that Unique . . . did you know that Alex (Unique) grew up in the same blue collar town I did . . . I just find that so mind numbing . . .
Overall, I still like the show, I don’t expect too much. I think the Jake kid is absolutely adorable, cutest kid I’ve seen on the show, and that includes Blaine, who is just okay to me. Karofsky is still the only one I would describe as hot tho . . . . they’re all too young . . . for me anyway . . . .
Most of the actors are in the 30s (well, late 20s), so they’re legal at least.
@juddfan, There was a boy in my year who suddenly started dressing as a girl in junior or senior year (around 2005-06). I didn’t know them (he was probably trans but I don’t want to make any assumptions, plus for most of HS he dressed as a boy and that’s what I think of first), I used to admire his makeup but if he saw me looking he’d give me the death stare. I wanna say that he/she got prom queen senior year. Not like Kurt though, Francisco was very popular all throughout school.
@Ashley, what a great story!!! I’m always encouraged by stories like that, especially because I want to believe if you are true to yourself, others will respond to you better than if you are walking around in shame.
@Itchy, I do know they are legal, I just like men. it’s rare that a young thing attracts more than my eye . . . but they occasionally do. Don’t know how old Karofsky was, I mean, he did look older, but his IMDB does not state his age . .. how’d he manage that!? No matter, he’s hot . . . the others are cute at best. Probably Kurt’s Dad is more do-able to me . . .
Unique/Alex was another addition from the Glee project. Throwing on the dress was his “sing for your liiiife” schtick. I’m surprised that the Dreadhead Christian is still around.
Tadow, I must agree!!! Alex should have just won Glee Project, IMHO. Now when Blank, I mean, Blake joins the cast, there will be two pieces of wood . . . only one will have dreds instead of a grown out Justin Beiber doo.
As a huge Brit Brit fan, I recognized all the songs and references. The Gimme More number is a reference to Brit’s VMA performance where she messed up the lip sync, stumbled around on stage and gained weight. It was a hot mess. I thought the Glee homage to it was hilarious.
Where are Mercedes and Mike? Did they lose their contracts with the show?
Once Rachel started making the wierd “constipated” faces while she sings, we quit rooting for her.
I am not a Britney fan and I recognized all those melt-downs and all the songs… I need to stop reading trashy tabloids and listening to Top 40 radio stations!
@Meaghan – I am so glad to hear someone else call out that plot line as awful… a girl gets in a car thinking she’s about to be married to the man she loves and start a life together… he drives her to the train station, dumps her and refuses to talk to her again. That seems… unbelievably cruel. Being jilted at the alter is bad, but that was more Kill Bill style ambush
I am not a fan of the “replace so-and-so with a character just like them!” formula either. My least favorite is the new broody moody trouble-making Puckerman. I didn’t love the last one and it does NOT help that this one looks exactly like Chris Brown, complete with Chris Brown angry outburst and stage trashing during his audition.
