Grimm Recap: Bad Moon Rising or Coyotl Ugly

Nick makes a hasty exit and goes to meet Monroe at the Grimmobile to learn about Coyotls. Monroe explains that Coyotls are like the Bloods and Crips, or West Side Story, or The Outsiders… Once in, never out… They are big on inbreeding and Carly is ripe for the picking. At 17 years old, girl Coyotls are initiated in a fertility matrix ceremony under a full moon, after a ritual feast of small animals. And of course tonight is a full moon, which Monroe says isn’t a good night for him, so he’ll be staying in… (so will I, but then again, I always stay in.)

“When a mommy Coyotl and a daddy Coyotl love each other very much”… oh Monroe, we love you.

At the precinct, Hank and Jarold are still going through lists of Carly’s friends. Nick returns, so Hank does his vanishing act in pursuit of coffee, giving Nick the chance to tell Jarold he knows he’s a Coyotl, because he’s a Grimm, and he just wants to help find his daughter.

Jarold explains that the only Coyotls they know was Lisa’s family (Jarold’s dead wife), but they live in Texas, so they couldn’t be involved… or could they… Jayden then remembers her brother, Hayden Walker. Hank returns and looks up Hayden and finds that he has been living in Portland for a while. Turns out Hayden put the “chan” in mechanic, and they know where he is working. But when they get to the mechanic’s garage, Hayden has been a no show for a couple days, but the owner does have his home address. Sadly, another Coyotl overheard them and goes all glowy eyed on them.

He put the “weight” in Weight Watchers.

They go to Hayden’s apartment and kick the door down because they smell something dead… but it’s just animal carcasses… nothing to be alarmed about. (Keep it together, Hank… your day is coming.)

Sir, I think there’s a fly in my soup.

Hank heads back to the living room to keep down his last meal of Xanax, Lexapro, and Lithium. While Nick is telling him they need to tear the apartment apart to find out where Hayden went, Hank finds flyers for an abandoned farm. It’s a foreclosed property on Sawmill Rd. (Is it me, or do a lot of bad things happen on Sawmill Rd. or Sawgrass Farms? Just seems like a common name for bad sht.) So, anyway, clearly this is where Hayden went.

Coyotls are the only ones benefiting from a lousy housing market.

Cut to the farm, Coyotl Kurt Cobain tells Carly it’s time to get her cleaned up for the ceremony. Kurt looks like he could just a bath too. Oh, well, let’s be honest, I need one too.

“One of those actors that has been in 100 shows, but you can’t place even one.”

Mark Pellegrino was in Lost and Supernatural :-p Love seeing him play a somewhat normal character (relatively speaking, of course).

Mark Pellegrino was also in Being Human (the US version). He’s great at playing creepy! I especially loved him in Lost (until the show and his character got lame at the end of the final season).

I actually have never seen Lost. But he was also on Dexter. Played Dexter’s dead wife’s ex-husband.

Anyway. I like him too. He can come back on future episode. Shirtless of course.

Ok, who is the girl who played Carly? And by that I mean – what have I seen her in before this? She looks so familiar!

And I’m with you, M, Hank is a much better character ‘in the know’ than he was as the clueless sidekick. I think they milked that for as long as they could -and then some. Wonder if he will catch the Captain in the act before Nick figures it out? That could be fun!

Since I can’t recall (have blocked out) my own stupid-sober actions, I will tattle on my kids. On a day off from school while I was at work, my children went outside and decided to play tag. When it got boring, they stuffed pine cones into the leaf blower and fired them at one another. (my neighbor said it was hilarious) The day ended with a run to the emergency room for my daughter’s broken arm and stitches for my son and to this day, I’m still not sure I got the whole story. Ok, maybe this goes on my list too for thinking that they could be trusted for 2 hours alone! My only excuse is that they were 12 and 14 at the time and I honestly thought they’d sleep until noon. Not quite on par with your nail polish/lip gloss story but afterwards I did ask myself, “what the Hell were you thinking?”

Pine cones in a leaf blower… you have just planned my next family get together… we may all be older, but we’re not one bit wiser… and i have two younger brothers i’d love to torture. and air soft guns just don’t put the fear of God in them as it used to do.

Carly was played by Maddie Hasson. the only thing i see she was in for a while was a show called The Finder. I have heard of it, but never saw it…

@spanky… i was the missionary kid… i know you… and you were not sheltered. haha

The little girl playing Carly was the adorable gypsy Willa on the now sadly-cancelled “The Finder”.

Also, I think she only realized Nick was a Grimm because it showed on his face when he saw her get all glowy-eyed.

Have fun! My kids still grin at one another every time this comes up so I feel certain there’s more to the story.

And YES!! I knew I recognized that girl! “Finder” came on as a tie-in to the show “Bones” but never really took off. Michael Clark Duncan was also in it. Not the worst show I’ve ever seen but kinda… Aimless and wandering. It was driving me crazy not being aboe to figure it out so appreciate the info.

    @WishICouldSpell – I’m sure aboe is a word… much like batsht is a word… i feel like if i drop a letter, i’m not really cursing.

Does anyone else think that Hank maybe one of the royal family’s. We were discussing this at work, he now has the ability to see them and he knocked the Coyetl on his ass with one punch (super strength like Nick?)

not a bad point, featherhead… and if not royal, then at least something, bc he is seeing things too… but they do need the one normal character. i’m actually really enjoying this season. even if i do have to watch each episode 7 times.

Yeah, we were tossing around that maybe Hank is a royal or whatever Adline (Hexenbeast) had done to him may have given him those abilities. I can’t wait till we finally find out. I love this show!!

@Madelyne27: I am absolutely loving your recaps!!! I just got caught up on all 3 episodes, so I’m a couple pages into this recap, and loving it!

I was sooo happy to see Willa from The Finder! (Though Willa would have fought back harder and kicked those guy’s asses!!) (And The Finder was cancelled?!? (*sad face*)!

Oh, and I feel the need to share this little factoid….Nick got his “start” on Road Rules…! I looked him up a while ago to see what else he had been in, and if you look under “self”, it’s all there. I didn’t watch that show, but there are pictures on line of him in it.

Ok, back to the recap…(PS I hate Juliette, too….I just want her to GO AWAY) (PPS I LOVE Monroe…I could use more of him!) :)

All I could think about when you used “therapist” and “the-rapist” is Tobais Funke’s analyst + therapist= “analrapist”.

Hank is one bad mutha. One punch knocks the Coyotl to the ground and gives him back his “normal” face. Nick could learn a thing or two.

oh @cosmonala… i might be in love… i have two african water frogs named Maeby and Gob… no lie… i will attach pics next week… i got a “regift” for $50 from Brookstone so i went to their website and searched for gifts under $50, and two live frogs came up… they got lost by Fed Ex and showed up 4 days late and hungry… THAT WAS 7 YEARS AGO… they are still alive and waiting for the new Arrested Development movie…

you just made my day… only my BFF gets the-rapist jokes… BLUE MAN GROUP. #nevernaked.

Excellent re-cap. I really loved this episode. Again, I am defending Juliette – I thought those scenes were really well done; Nick had my sympathy.

The Coyotl dad (never saw him before) did a great job. I think the casting director has either been replaced, or is really stepping it up this season.

Things I learned from this episode: it sucks to be a female Coyotl.

The Coyotl dad was awesome in this and awesome on the Closer! Two such completely different characters that I was super impressed. Also, hooray Hank is catching on! Hooray, Juliette is home… Well, at least she’s pretty? I covet her face angles.
