Of COURSE Juliette is the only person in Portland who can speak Spanish. This show…she must have a great agent. Getting her in every episode. Also, thanks to your review (and it being Halloween), I desperately need to watch Hocus Pocus. Hooray for awesome Monroe being back! Nick definitely could be a princess, altho I’ll always be inclined to think he looks like Clark Kent.
Thanks again for a great recap! I’m so glad you’re doing this show!
Hocus locus is a mandatory Halloween flick. And for me, so is Adams Family Values. No clue why I love that movie.
Because it’s awesome? Every time I see someone with a creepy smile, I think of Wednesday coming out of the Disney hut at camp. “She’s scaring me!”
Overall a great recap and episode, but I have to agree how dumb it was that Juliette was the only translator available (and I like her character!). Also what is up with the intern? They must be leading into a storyline for him, otherwise it’s a very annoying character.
Loved the ghost story – I studied it in women’s lit in college and it freaked me out!
I was so hoping for Munroe to scare the sh** out of those boys and I was not disapointed. I liked this episode especially the ghost story it was based on. I love ghost stories particularly “ghostly women”. If you want to be really scared watch the “Woman in Black” but not at night and not alone.
We don’t celebrate halloween here and after reading your hilarious captions to the photos at Munroes house, I am wondering. Why do you spend a whole year warning your kids about “stranger danger” then let them loose on one night to knock on strangers doors?
A good episode would be Juliette and Renard having a night of passion. Nick finding out and kicking her out. Never to be seen again.
^ Woman in Black is mad scary. I started off watching it in the dark and ended up scrambling for the lights. My room is small too, but it felt like I was crossing the grand canyon trying to get from my bed to the damn light switch. So sure some evil face was gonna come looming out of the darkness at me. Good movie though.
I loved this episode. It was interesting and a little scary, but not too scary.
It’s funny that you mentioned the makeups on this show, because the most recent episode of Face Off was based on Grimm and we got to see Monroe, the producer and the guy who is in charge of the makeup.
He looks like a kindly but spry grandpa. And the contestants on the show were shitting themselves over him, so I guess he is a big deal.
Does Renard wear a wedding band?
If so, then why?
I noticed something that looks suspiciously like a wedding band when he was interrogating Valentina.
I hope Juliette and him never exchange anything besides longing looks though…I don’t mind Juliette, but I don’t want her grubby fingers all over Renard.
Also, it’s a lie that Juliette grew up in Spain. Spanish from Spain sounds different from the regular old spanish like what you learn in school…that’s what she was speaking.
LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE DON’T TOUCH RENARD.
Monroe was so lovable this episode.
He’s lovable in every episode, but this one especially. He’s my favorite.
Halloween isn’t one of my fav holidays. I’ve never been a big fan. But I’m totally excited to watch Woman in Black. I love scary movies. Even though I get completely freaked out and lose sleep.
Renard does wear a band. It might be a Royal thing. I pretend it’s for me.
Monroe was awesome this episode. I’ll have to record Face Off. My husband wanted to see it anyway, so I’ll make it like I’m watching it for him. Win some wifey points.
As for the nuances of Spanish, I struggle with the Taco Bell menu. So I can’t really tell. But she doesn’t look like she has any sort of Spanish blood in her lame veins.
Now just gotta see if intern Ryan becomes a story or if he’s supposed to be comic relief. Bc the show has the right number of odd balls (Monroe and Wu). He better be something awesome and evil.
Off to start recapping my other show, basketball wives la. Couldn’t be more different. But about the same amount of make up.
I grew up in Phoenix when it was much smaller than it is now and a lot of Mexican culture was more predominant there, so I heard a lot of the legendary stories. La Llorona had me so scared that I was afraid to go to sleep. I’ve outgrown the fear, but really did enjoy this episode as a blast from my past.
Interesting that the only 2 people in portland who speak Spanish are Officer Sanchez (how original) and Juliette.
I’m surprised you didn’t point out that Juliette is a dull in Spanish as she is in English.
well, I thought Juliette spoke spanish well. The spanish from spain sounds like lisping, a whole bunch of “th” s all over. My Guatemalen Ex used to pull out the “th”s when he was around people from Mexico–used to piss me off no end, and was so offensive–little Bitch!!!
I’m gonna go read those stories, as I know nothing of the ghost story.
Madelyne, awesome as always!!! Love your asides, captions and Wu!!!! We wuv Wu!!!
