Here Comes Honey Boo Boo Recap: This Family is Special

I am very happy that I got the opportunity to recap this show, and since they have been renewed for another season, am looking forward to the future antics of this all American family. I just hope that the immense success of this show does not change the core of what makes this family so likeable. Let’s say good bye to the first season of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

honey-boo-boo-family1It was so nice to meet y’all

We start out with the family preparing to take some family portraits. Outside. In 101 degree weather. In the humidity pit that is McIntyre, Georgia. June actually put on makeup and looks nice. But, the heat is making everyone miserable. The photographer, bless her soul, has decided that a great place to take photos would be on some rocks along the water. June is too worried about hurting herself to climb down the rocks, so the girls go down to get some photos taken.

Alana is not happy. There is no sass here, only complaints about the heat and getting mud all over her outfit. I love the dynamics of Alana’s personality. She is both pretty pretty princess, and play in the mud tomboy. When she gets dressed up, she does not like being dirty. But, she also loves playing in the mud for fun. Such are the joys of being a 7 year old girl. Anyway, she is so hot and fidgety that she manages to smudge her mascara.

smudged-mascaraI am not amused.

The next photos are of the whole family holding hands. I love that all of the girls are dressed up and Sugar Bear is wearing his jeans and T-shirt. Apparently, he only dresses up for funerals. That of course makes me wonder what he actually considers dressing up. I suspect he may actually own a tuxedo t-shirt for special occasions, and of course there is the Santa Suit.

They finally end the photo shoot after a lot of bickering about how exactly to hold hands. And the photographer breathes a sigh of relief. She knows that she got some exposure for her business, and also never to accept another gig from TLC.

family-portrait1This is how you hold hands and scare any approaching children.

Alana is packing her things for a pageant when June interrupts her. Alana is at that age where she doesn’t want anyone helping her do things. She gets irritated when June tries to help her pack and determinedly asks June what she is looking for. June wants to know where Alana’s new swimwear costume is and Alana grabs it. She can’t wait to wear it in a pageant. She tries it on and proudly shows off her belly as she happily proclaims that she looks like a blueberry while wearing it. After parading for June, she strikes tons of poses in the mirror for her own enjoyment. Is it bad that as much as I find child pageants creepy, I love watching her get so excited about them?

If there were ever a situation where in which I had to choose between cheese and chocolate, cheese would win hands down. I spend my days writing blog posts for the multi-housing industry and my nights harshly judging people who appear on reality shows. If there is the odd weekend in which I am not working, or feeling smugly satisfied about my lack of my own reality show, I will build a blog for my friends. Then, I will spend the rest of my weekend conning other friends, family members, and general acquaintances to donate their talents to help out. I am shameless in my love of free stuff, blue humor, and great or even terrible fiction. I tell my friends that I watch reality shows to feel better about myself. In actuality, I watch them because I am vastly entertained by the things people will do to be famous. When Flipit asked me to join the TVGasm family, I was honored. When he said that I would be paid in Cheetos and M&M's, I was totally in.

I guess you have arrived when you’re featured on South Park. It pissed me off because they were making fun of sketti and butter. It’s sketti, butter, AND ketchup, you South Park dumbasses! Make fun of THAT all you want, but I eat sketti and butter with herbs a lot — or sketti, and olive oil with herbs — so it’s NOTHING to make fun of until ketchup enters the equation. I saw an interview with Gordon Ramsay where he was asked what he eats after a hard day. The answer? Pasta (ain’t nothing but sketti), plain with olive oil and herbs. So stick it, South Park.

Plath, did we see the same episode, cause what I saw was a “Peoples Choice Award” so obviously set up by TLC; c’mon, there just happened to be a special surprise for Alana?

I found her quite loud and annoying this episode (and obviously coached by the Producers) , yes they love each other, blah blah, but trust me- A change is a comin, they will not remain the same.

When I saw the shot of June’s filthy elbows, I decided I am Boo Booed out. I will wait for Toddlers and Tiaras to return so I can properly snark, it’s hard to do cause you love them so much!

Alice South Park was not mean, they were spot on.

Cranky I didn’t see any herbs in the sketti pit they were fighting in. I did see lots of ketchup.

i’m sorry, but all the implied incest remarks are kind of pissing me off (i do admit this is the first time i’ve read one on this site). polydactylism is extremely common, even amongst non redneck families! jeez.

@michkabibbles, what is considered extremely common? I’ve met a guy with a flipper for a hand, but I’ve never run across anyone with more than 10 digits. Do you think they will just leave the extra thumb, or have it removed at some point? If they are usually removed, then I guess that could account for my lack of personal experience.

Re: the family photo. Even at 9 months preggers, Anna is still smaller than 2 of her 3 sisters. That makes me a little sad for them.
For some reason I really believe that this is one family that won’t be be ruint (to speak in the vernacular) by the spotlight. I think they will really enjoy whatever opportunities that come their way but once the spotlight is gone, they’ll go back to sleeping late and couponing like there’s an apocalypse coming tomorrow.

@crankyguy – here’s an Italian recipe for sketti for you. Fry up some garlic with olive oil (extra virgin), make some brocolli (microwave it) or spinach if you don’t care for brocolli – pour it over your sketti and sprinkle Italian breadcrumbs (progresso is my fave) salt and pepper. Quick, easy and delish! can also use parm cheese if you want.

I thought June looked beautimus with her barn painted. I’m glad they’ll be back next season, I enjoy the whole family.

According to wikipedia (I know, I know), polydactylism occurs in 1:500 births:

I’m guessing we don’t see that much of it because most people have surgery when they are young to correct it.

aw, bye-bye, honey boo boo, until next season! thanks for some great recaps, plathaddict!

oh my gosh, how cute was alana waiting for baby kaitlyn, writing her welcome message on the driveway?! i told my husband about it and he even thought it was adorable, and he’s a honey boo boo skeptic (although after all my stories he’s slowly become pro-hbb, i can tell!). and when she actually got to hold the baby. i was awwwwing all over the place. AND thinking of what a sweet deal this kid is going to have, having an aunt who is only 7 years older than she is! that’s less of a difference than between me and my sister!

the cat attack was PRICELESS! best moment of the whole episode. i love when my cats go nuts and fight, so that explains why i found it so funny.

the one thing i did NOT like, though, was the whole pig ordeal. i don’t think a 7-year-old is mature enough to be given this pig and then have it taken away AGAIN. hell, i’m 29, and if someone “surprised” me with a pet they’d made me give up, my assumption would be that i was getting it back for good. poor kid! they shouldn’t do that to her.

They might have Kaitlyn’s extra finger removed. They could be waiting until she’s old enough. I really don’t see what’s the big deal about it. It’s not that strange, it’s a minor birth defect. When I first heard about her having three thumbs, I thought people meant she had 2 extra thumbs on one hand, which have been really weird. People were making such a big deal about it. And then I watched this episode and saw it was just one extra thumb and was underwhelmed, not a big deal at all. My roommate even said that one of her friends was born with an extra finger that she had removed.

I loved the cat attacking Pumpkin it was so random. And love how it walked afterwards. Cats are such cocky and fickle animals. Yet they’re just so cute that you can’t help loving them.

I love that Plath loves this show. I love it when recapppers love the show their recapping. It’s nice to have change of pace every now and then.

@alicecarroll13 — i think it’s rude to assume that because the baby was born with an extra thumb, there was incest involved. for one thing, many babies with absolutely no incenst involved are born with problems or deformities, and not all incest babies have birth defects! so while i don’t know what the situation was, i would NOT automatically assume it’s incest just because she was born with an extra thumb. i was born with a club foot. my parents are not only not related, but my dad is mostly middle eastern & asian, whereas my mother is caucasian, so they are FAR from related. my parents just could afford to have it fixed.

@ellemenop Being young aunt is not all that great. But maybe I think that because I am one. It can be kind of weird sometimes. I have 4 brothers who are 10+ years older than me and they all have kids. I have been an aunt since I was 1.

That’s the problem when somebody tries to make a joke at the expense of the characters on a show that the recapper and 95% of the posters are in love with. I have seen professional comedians make incest jokes about rednecks and Southerners in general, so it is not really too surprising that somebody would try it here.

@Crankyguy, right?! I’m from Arkansas and people from elsewhere are really surprised that I wear shoes and didn’t get pregnant right outta high school. Puhlease–I’m totally college edumacated. It reminds me of how uptight the West Virginians were when the movie “Wrong Turn” came out (because of the whole inbred mutant cannibals). I’d probably be more likely to visit WV if I thought I might see an inbred mutant cannibal.
(Ok, it’s funny in my head. Please don’t verbally attack me if it’s not funny to you or you have an inbred mutant cannibal (IMC) in your family.)

@Elle #15, my high school boyfriend was born with a cleft palate. It was fixed when he was little but he still had to go to speech therapy in elementary school. Between that (’cause kids are meanies) and the nearly-invisible-to-my-eye-but-he-thought-might-as-well-be-outlined-in-neon scars, he’s always been self-conscious. Now he has a big, full bushy beard and is a happy camper. I never even thought about the possibility of him being teased with incest jokes when we were younger. How horrible.

Tell me about it! Being from Minnesota, everyone thinks we talk like characters right out of Fargo (the movie, not the town) and live like Eskimos. Let me tell you, it get’s damn hot and hideously humid here in the summer. Yeah, it also gets cold. Our record is -60 below, I shit you not. Actual temp, no wind-chill needed. Tower, Minnesota 1996. And I drove up even further north of that to give a baby shower during that cold snap. Kinda proud of that!

I saw someone get upset on the RHoM recap because someone mentioned Joanna’s Polish coming out when she was drunk. The person that made the comment was Polish themselves, so why couldn’t they joke about it if they wanted to?

Please, I’m half Bohunk and proud of it. Probably 80% of the town I’m from is some kind of Bohunk and we all refer to ourselves AS Bohunks. I remember a kid in my 4th grade class had a “Bohunk Power” t-shirt. We used to make Bohunk spaghetti growing up (not like the sketti they ate on the show, more of a casserole-type thing). So, no one bother to call me out for using the word Bohunk, cause obviously, I don’t care! :)

@Pat Ledoux – yeah, I’ve had more than enough of the Booboo clan too. Yes they care for each other, but guess what? So do most families and no one is making a big deal of them. And any mother that chooses to spend money on pageants rather than buying her family decent food (and birth control) will never have my respect.

That bathing suit (or whatever it was) looked horrible on that poor girl. It was oufit of choice – she should have been fully covered. And though I’ve never been to a pageant, I’ve watched tons of T&T and NEVER seen a “people’s choice” award. Clearly, TLC made that up so it would look like she won something. (news flash: she doesn’t have the look AND doesn’t bother to practice…pageants are a waste for her)

And what the frig was the point of showing her the pet she still couldn’t keep? Weird

@Pat, I assume we saw the same episode, because iTunes hasn’t told me otherwise. But your dislike of the episode and my like of the episode doesn’t mean that the “People’s Choice” was any more or any less set up. I was simply reporting what was recored – Alana won 2nd runner up and People’s Choice. Sorry, if you were bothered by me not saying, the “People’s Choice” was a producer’s setup. Having pointed out producer setups so often, I didn’t think I had to say it anymore.

But, just so everyone knows, pretty much the entire episode – especially the second half after the birth of Kaitlyn, was setup by the producers.

I just don’t have anything to snark about. If I wanted to, I would feel free to. Man, I sure didn’t think I’d be saying that about this show when I first heard about it. Who knew? :)

I’m agreeing that other people take maybe too much of an exception to things people snark about in the comments. That’s not your fault in any way, shape, or form. My response was lighten up. If you can’t laugh at yourself and at preconceived notions about things like where you’re from and ethnicity (not in this recap, on another one I read), then you’re taking things too personally and seriously (not you, other posters).

You keep on loving this family. I’m right there with you!

@Plath, I wasn’t making a dig at you, so I hope you don’t take it that way. All the HBB love in here just creates an atmosphere where anti-HBB posts are somewhat unwelcome by the group as a whole, not by you in particular, or that’s how I see it anyway. Otherwise, the inbreeding joke might have gone over better, but maybe not. It’s fine with me if you like them, but too much snark against HBB would be kinda like wearing a Romney shirt at an Obama rally.

@ellemenop You need to watch the movie 16 Candles. That was the first time I ever heard it used outside of where I grew up. Plus, it’s a damn funny movie with the hottest guy of the ’80s in it.

It’s supposed to be derogatory term, but we embraced it, much like some rednecks embrace, well being rednecks. Some others would be offended to be called that. It’s all in how you look at it, I guess.

@Cranky, thank Jeebus! It is you! I didn’t think that you were making a dig at me. I was just worried that you were reconsidering the snark when it came to this show simply because I happen to love it. I love that you give no quarter and take no prisoners. So, when you say that you feel like you can’t snark on a show I recap, I have to check in to make sure someone isn’t hacking your account. Because, you passing up snark to spare a recapper’s opinions/feelings? That is just all kinds of wrong!

@KJN, this seems to be a theme with my favorite “snark all day and all night” commenters. I totally didn’t think that you were making a dig at me. I was just responding to the idea that because I like something I recap, I must automatically be against the people who dislike it. So, I was just responding to the posts that are highlighted on my blackberry (Yes, I still have a blackberry and it is obsolete. But, I’m a cheapskate and can get the newest Android or iPhone (my pick) if I wait out my contract).

It’s funny, because I actually thought I was Polish when I was a kid. My grandma would always (incorrectly) say my grandpa was from Poland instead of Czechoslovakia. I don’t know why. She wasn’t too bright, I guess. It wasn’t until later I learned he was actually Czech. I also just recently learned that Bohemian people can refer to people of Czech descent. @PlathAddict (ノ^ ‿^)ノ ♡彡

We’ll get a Halloween special in a little bit. And 2 more Holla Day specials after that. To hold us over.

I know there’s no way in hell season 2′s going to be as good. Because you know TLC’s going to get carried away. And not be satisfied with stuff like having them do a lemonade stand. Or go to the redneck games.

People that like them can’t help but think of it as a battle between Hollywood and June now. And are rooting for the underdog. Hoping Hollywood’s met its match.

All over the internet you can see people typing down the tales of the tape. Like they do for boxers.

Over in Hollywood’s corner they’ve got a mess of professionals trained to get people to do stuff. Waving $ in her face. Offering her the moon on a stick. In exchange for things it’s not in her to sell.

Then there’s another mess of them trying to convince her she’s wrong to love herself the way she is. Because if they can get her to quit doing that they’ll get some $. They might dress it up in some fancy suits. But that’s what they’re doing. Every company that’s even halfway connected to the diet business has got her down as their #1 get right now.

In June’s corner it doesn’t look like she’s got that much to fight with. Unless you count having about 900 times more bulbs lit up in her head than a lot of people thought she had. Including me. Watching their 1st Toddlers and Tiaras. I still think they’re 2 or 3 at most generations come up out of the swamp. But I never thought swamp people are stupid. Where I went wrong was pre judging June as average.

1 thing she’s got going for her. Maybe brought up from the swamp in her blood, is a big streak of tree that’s planted by the water. Even to the point of going against ways. In a place where some real old and nasty 1s have been planted pretty deep by the water themselves.

All of those trained professionals in the Hollywood corner have got resumes and track records full of fancy accomplishents.

June’s accomplishment is raising kids that say things like this out loud in Wilkinson County:

There ain’t nothing wrong with being a little gay. Everybody’s a little gay

That makes some of us want June to win so bad! Because it would be like a whole lot of other stuff winning too.

That’s how come for all we laugh and snark along with them at stuff they do. And stuff the producers set up for them to do. We also get hopeful feelings.

Even when it grosses us out. Like @PlathAddict was saying about watching June and Sugar bear kiss.

But what it represents is a different story. When we think about how there’s somebody for everybody. That to them will be the most beautimous person in the world. We don’t get grossed out then. Instead we get so cheesed out we might as well just pack up and move to Roquefort. Or roll up in a ball on the floor.

@Pat Ledoux Thanks! I dont think I ever got called thought out before!

I forgot to put for the people wondering. June said the doctors aren’t going to do anything till Kaitlyn’s older. And they can tell how both of the thumbs are hooked up to nerves and stuff.

The only way they’d cut it off would be if there’s 0 chance it could affect her using that hand.

My guess is they won’t even start thinking about it till she’s at least Alana’s age. Since there’s stuff in your brain about fingers that can take a while to crank up all the way.

Which is why some kids have sucky hand writing. Even if they learned real early. And love to do it. It’s just their brain that learned it. Then it just sits on it. And doesn’t tell their fingers till it wants to. Somebody smart will have to come explain it better. And tell the science part.

I looked this up out of curiosity and the majority of kids that have an extra finger have it removed between the ages of 1 and 2 with no ill effects. It’s best to remove it before the child learns his/her more advanced fine motor skills.

Oh and I’ll take your word for it about fingers. All I know about it’s from a long time ago when 1 of my cousins that’s an artist thought her baby twins should both be able to draw real good. So you’re definitely the 1 with reliable source.

@Cranky while I think there is something most assuredly wrong with the family- my birthing class in 1977 had 6 mothers in it and when we’d all given birth,2 of the babies had an extra thumb, one had a stomach disorder and one needed minor heart surgery after a year. Our son was perfect (still is). This was Madison ,Wisconsin. I don’t know why but I always assumed it was something in the water. Now after 35 years, I wish the Doctors had kept records. All the kids were much bigger. Our son was 5th percentile. What’s honey Boo Boo -95th? Wouldn’t you want to know how many people in the area also get extra thumbs and if there are clumps of those groupings around the world? (Other than interbreeding?)Extra toes-now that’s what you need-spare parts. Or new teeth growing in a pouch to harvest when you’re 45,in case you need them. That would be handy. Or-magic.

@Robin Thanks for the recommendation. It looks interesting and very complex. From what I can tell from what I read, you’ll feel strongly for Ruth, while also maybe understanding the feelings of the people that had been ravaged by the Nazis.

But, of course, persecuting innocent people (much like Japanese internment camps here), won’t do anything to reverse the horrors that were inflicted. Two wrongs will never equal a right. Very sad. In any case, definitely a side we haven’t heard much about.

I’m still in the dark ages, so no Kindle here. I order from Amazon pretty regularly and it’s $2.99, so I will throw it in my cart next time I make a purchase. I used to read so much, but I find myself watching too much crap t.v. these days.

I just got The Crimson Petal and The White after watching the mini-series (well, in this case watching t.v. made me buy a book, so there’s that), but I need to turn the t.v. off and pick that book up soon cause it’s huge.

Damn reality t.v.! You have sucked me in!

    Now cut it out!

@KJN, recently move from the Duluth area to the deep south (Minneapolis) and you make me homesick. Lotsa Bohunks up der fer sure among da Scandahoovians. Agree that we do NOT all sound like Fargo-the-movie, although plenty do.

    @KJN You’re Welcome.

I got the book in May and haven’t read it yet. I got a bit carried away when I got my Kindle and ordered everything that interested me; I am also in the dark ages, I have a cell phone that only makes calls, a car that is unable to tell me where to go or park itself, a TV that is..well, you get my drift :-)

Anyway, love the Kindle, love books and was like a kid in a candy store when I saw all of the books available. The MouseTrap is in my TBR folder.

Although the price is nominal, I was under the impression that it was free this weekend. Sorry about that. If not for free books for a limited time for promotional purposes I wouldn’t have a library on my Kindle, I would just have a “libr” :-)

@featherhead, your recipe sounds an awful lot like the “everyday” pasta I make when I just don’t have time to cook. Except, I’ve never used breadcrumbs. Which is kind of weird considering how much I love carbs. Do you sprinkle them on top with the parmesan as a finishing touch, or do you sprinkle them so that they can cook a little bit before you add the parmesan?

@KJN -Kirk Douglas et al were in those 50′s and 60′s movies with stevedors. They were the manly bohunks.
I think some people stole the term hunk from that. Others twisted it to Honkey. So a Hungarian became a white person. My father would have found this hilarious since we attended The Hungarian Reformed Free Church which was in an all black neighborhood and every week as we got out of the car,he never fail to say, “look at all of the black Hungarians.” It cracked him up! But then,so did kielbasa.
But I have to disagree with you that a Bohunk was someone of Slavik or Slovenian descent. If the word comes from Bohemian and Hungarian then it can’t mean just Slavic or Eastern European. The land of Boihaemum was first mentioned by the Roman Invaders in the 1st C. A.D. Boi was a tribal name. Haem or Heim (Germ)
or home-English. So-home of many future boy bands. It stretched from England to the Teutonic peoples, the Austrian Empire which included Hungary and much more at the time and was a major power, and the Czechs and Silesia. Silesia was part of Germany till the end of WW11 and the Romans considered Breslau (Wroclaw) the center of Bohemia.Silesians spoke High German or Czech or Polish .Today, it is in Poland.I find Europe fascinating because of the border changes and the numbers of towns that have 2 and 3 names. Some of them are terrific! Of course,I love history and old stuff so when I can,we take our ff miles and go home.My mother was born in Breslau. I guess that means I qualify for dual citizenship-Polish-who knew? We were in the Czech Republic at 2 am looking for our hotel with 2 hungry kids and my hubby’s yelling because he wants me to read the street signs and tell him where we are. Just because I can swear in Hungarian, can I read Czech street signs? really?? Czech is a Slav language. So are most of the other East European languages. But not Hungarian. So Bohunk- has may = bohemian or Hungarian but not exclusively slavic.Only Hungarians and Laplanders speak Finno-Ugric.So no wonder I love Bambi. And it may explain why Magyars eat so much venison-even me.
Before I leave-border towns. Look on a good map some time. Towns that are on border of France and Germany or Austria? They’ll have 2 names Or like Breslau, they are now translated to the Polish Wroclow. But the best is my father’s birthplace-Sopron just inside the border of Hungary. The Austrian name is Oedenburg. But some time in the 70′s,they dug up the Byzantine ruins underneath the central square of the town and found, among among other things, a giant statue of Jupiter and funeral urns. And they named the town? Scarbantia! Score 1 for the Romans.

@Robin I think it is free for Kindle, actually. But still, $2.99 isn’t too shabby for the actual book. I love Amazon.

@snowshoecat I am a born-n-bred Ranger Bohunk! Two hours farther north than Duluth even, where coincidentally, my DD is currently attending college. She’s a junior this year and loves it up there. She’s had two easy winters so far, so that helps. We’ll see how this year goes!

I moved to South Minneapolis in ’88, and we slowly worked our way back up I-35 (which kinda bites now that gas prices are so outrageous and my husband works in Minneapolis), so now we’re about an hour north of the cities. It took some getting used to at first (especially the driving,so many lanes and on/off ramps!), but I don’t think I could ever go back to no malls, Targets, and Cubs. At least Duluth has all that, plus Lake Superior. My DD just sent me pictures from earlier this week when they went exploring along the shore and they were just gorgeous.

Oh, and some of my best friends from up there are those very Scandahoovians of which you speak. :) Of course, they’re all down here too due to the fact you can’t make much of a living up there unless you’re born into some kind of family business. Pretty much everyone I grew up with/hung out with is down here somewhere.

@snowshoecat, Thank you! I think my snark muscle got kind of rusty with this show. It’s like they wore me down. I was completely ready to dislike them and tell the world just how ridiculous they were. But, wouldn’t you know it? Suddenly, I started caring about them – and that’s just not like me. As much as I will miss their antics, I am kind of glad that I will get a break.
Seriously? I’m kind of sick of myself when it comes to how much I love this family. Listen, if you find yourself defending Honey Boo Boo to your friends, family, and co-workers, you definitely have a problem. So, imagine how I have felt since my first recap. This is the only show I have ever watched that makes me question my judgmental tendencies.

I am surprised myself that I have liked these folks as much as I do. I think much of the reason that I like it so much is; as hard as those producers try to manipulate them they won’t conform!

@ssc Actually, she does go to CSS. UMD was “too big” for her. Of course she had to pick the more expensive of the two. Not that either is cheap, that’s for sure.

Oh yes. We totally have Honey Boo Boos up north. Minus the beauty pageants. :)

@KM I actually just learned that the word can refer to Czech people. I always thought of a Bohemian as an artsy unconventional kind of person, which of course it does mean also. I just didn’t realize the Bo in Bohunk stood for Bohemian and that Czechs were Bohemians. But then Hungarians get mixed in there somehow too. It may not have been correct, but where I’m from pretty much anyone that was Slovenian, Polish, Czech, whatever all used the word Bohunk to refer to themselves. Heck, I just learned what the two parts of the word means and that Czechs were Bohemians, so wouldn’t surprise me at all if some of them used the term incorrectly.

I also just learned that there were a great many people of German descent that lived there (thanks Robin!). I find that interesting because I was always under the impression that I have no German heritage whatsoever, but who knows, maybe I do. Then my married last name would fit me better! :)

My Favorite recipe for a breadcrumb crust for just about anything.

    Melted butter
    Itallian bread crumbs
mix til crumbly. the ratio is normally 1 to 4.
    Then add,
Parm Cheese ~ Yes, the green can stuff,
salt pepper and garlic powder to taste.

I love this on top of squash casserole.

We have friends whose daughter was born with an extra pinky and extra toes. They removed the pinky and left the toes. In her case, but not all cases, the pinky did not have a bone and did not function, it just kind of flopped. They removed it for cosmetic reasons and because it just got in the way. Her toes do have bones and she can move them so they left the toes alone.

Cut and paste from polydactyl site:

The extra digit is usually a small piece of soft tissue that can be removed. Occasionally it contains bone without joints; rarely it may be a complete, functioning digit. The extra digit is most common on the ulnar (little finger) side of the hand, less common on the radial (thumb) side, and very rarely within the middle three digits.

I worked with someone who had a new baby niece with an extra thumb. Mom was embarrassed of it, and it was removed when she was around six months old or so. My coworker thought it was the cutest little thing. (She was still just 17.)

Anyway, all of us fans who like the the family are in good company. Ann Rice, the author, likes them, too. She’s even got a bunch of pictures up on her facebook with Alana photoshopped into movie scenes. They’re really a hoot.

People’s Choice Awards are VERY common at these pageants! It goes like this…..Audience members can “vote” for their favorite contestant for $1…basically it’s a way for directors to make MORE money for themselves by having such a ridiculous award. Of course, each family wants THEIR contestant to win, so they spend TONS of $1′s to get their kids name entered. The contestant with the most “votes” (remember they pay money to vote) wins a cheap ass $10 crown! Ridiculous I know!

@PageantLurker, the more I learn about these pageant directors, the more I hate them. That is as stupid as people who will pay $10 to text in ten votes for, say, what the have-nots will eat for the week in Big Brother.

Now, I have to wonder who was paying for HBB’s votes.

No, I’m sure that the fans showing up are paying for the votes. Did you see that episode where she did the pageant and they brought her glitzy up on stage? Have you ever seen that many people in the audience on T&T? People just love her and her family. They don’t miss a chance to show it.

i completely forgot i posted at this story!
when i first read the recap, i had just come from a site where someone (very seriously) said that sugar bear should be arrested for pedophilia because it was obvious that he’d been molesting chickadee (obvious because her daughter had 2 thumbs, so incest had to be involved)-not caring about the fact that the two of them aren’t even related. so when i saw alicecarrol13′s comment, i over reacted a bit. i was more exasperated than offended.

i’ve personally known 2 people in my life with polydactylism-one who had her thumb removed at an early age, one who still has an extra toe-so i’ve just been surprised at how many people don’t realize how common it is.

@Jazzy, most of the girls that wear the bathing suits for outfit of choice wear a 2 piece so even though she should have been covered more, that is what is expected. And I have been to many pageants as you can see by my username. At some pageants they have an extra entry where people in the audience can pay a dollar to vote, sometimes voting is free. That is the peoples choice award.
