I am very happy that I got the opportunity to recap this show, and since they have been renewed for another season, am looking forward to the future antics of this all American family. I just hope that the immense success of this show does not change the core of what makes this family so likeable. Let’s say good bye to the first season of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.
We start out with the family preparing to take some family portraits. Outside. In 101 degree weather. In the humidity pit that is McIntyre, Georgia. June actually put on makeup and looks nice. But, the heat is making everyone miserable. The photographer, bless her soul, has decided that a great place to take photos would be on some rocks along the water. June is too worried about hurting herself to climb down the rocks, so the girls go down to get some photos taken.
Alana is not happy. There is no sass here, only complaints about the heat and getting mud all over her outfit. I love the dynamics of Alana’s personality. She is both pretty pretty princess, and play in the mud tomboy. When she gets dressed up, she does not like being dirty. But, she also loves playing in the mud for fun. Such are the joys of being a 7 year old girl. Anyway, she is so hot and fidgety that she manages to smudge her mascara.
The next photos are of the whole family holding hands. I love that all of the girls are dressed up and Sugar Bear is wearing his jeans and T-shirt. Apparently, he only dresses up for funerals. That of course makes me wonder what he actually considers dressing up. I suspect he may actually own a tuxedo t-shirt for special occasions, and of course there is the Santa Suit.
They finally end the photo shoot after a lot of bickering about how exactly to hold hands. And the photographer breathes a sigh of relief. She knows that she got some exposure for her business, and also never to accept another gig from TLC.
Alana is packing her things for a pageant when June interrupts her. Alana is at that age where she doesn’t want anyone helping her do things. She gets irritated when June tries to help her pack and determinedly asks June what she is looking for. June wants to know where Alana’s new swimwear costume is and Alana grabs it. She can’t wait to wear it in a pageant. She tries it on and proudly shows off her belly as she happily proclaims that she looks like a blueberry while wearing it. After parading for June, she strikes tons of poses in the mirror for her own enjoyment. Is it bad that as much as I find child pageants creepy, I love watching her get so excited about them?
