“Hatred can become like food, it gives you this energy that you can like, live off of”
Hola Gasmii!!
Last time on Espionage Abbey, Brody tried to save the tailor that rigged him up to go boom-boom, but he got into an overzealous game of Hide and Go Seek and ended up killing the guy. He was so caught up in his reindeer games he missed Jessica’s big charity function, which caused her to throw him out and turn to good Old Mike in her time of need. Not for sex, but still.
In other news, Carrie felt the cold steel doors of bureaucrazy slam shut on her ambitions to rejoin the CIA. Estes was sympathetic, but then again, he’s still a dick. The big big news is that Saul showed up to show her the tape of Brody confessing!!!! Carrie was right! There will be dancing in the street!
Better not, this will just get her sent back to the asylum
~~~
We open in Virginia with Saul arriving at a stately house in a quiet tree-lined suburb that turns out to belong to Estes.
CIA agents take the most extreme security measures
We learn the pint sized Darth Vader is Estes’ son, Kenny, who must be visiting from Florida. I have to say Estes is doing pretty well on a government salary to have this house after a messy divorce involving small children and adultery. Well, the small children weren’t involved in the adultery.
Saul lets Estes know he has proof that someone wanted to blow up a bunker full of people a few months back during the sniper attack. In fact, Estes was one of those people the bunker was full of.
“You have my attention”
The disk comes out and I’m just waiting for Estes to refute it’s veracity or for it not to be functional, but there is Brody, clear as a bell and very official looking for a suicide bomber. We still just see the opening intro but there must be sufficient evidence for Saul to have the right story and Estes is convinced. He asks if the next step is to arrest Brody, but Saul has other plans.
“Look, we’ve barely started our second season. We’re going to need to stall until a new villain can be introduced”
The pitch is that Brody needs to be allowed to stay where he is and continue to do what he’s doing, including paling around with the Veep in order to bring the CIA to Nazir’s hiding place. Estes is concerned that his boss is not going to like the news that his new BFF tried to kill him and is part of a terrorist ring. Those things generally fall to Estes to find out before the weekends without the wives start going down. Saul points out that not telling the Veep is going to upset him slightly too, so the only possible way out is to watch Brody in order to find Nazir and foil the Iranian retaliation they just know is in the works. Instant hero! Overlooking a terrorist plot forgotten!
If you like it, spread it!:
This is a great recap and pretty dang funny.
I was pretty surprised by the ending, too. I don’t know why she chose that route? She relies on her gut instincts so I guess that will be her excuse. What is the deal with that new guy?
This show is so implausible but the acting is awesome. I love it.
Great recap !
I knew she was going to confront him when she came to his hotel door. I kept yelling, NO, but there she was. I thought maybe they would let it play out and get a confession to turn him or have him call his contact. I have no clue how they are going to play this out. I don’t want Brody to disapear from the show. I have to say that I also like Peter. Great line when he asked how many times do you have to tell her something…and Saul said..many.
Amazing ending to a pretty good episode! I’m with JKW, I knew she was going to do something crazy and blow her cover when she knocked on his door. It would take a hell of a lot of loyalty to your agency to sleep with your terrorist ex in front of your co-workers, and Carrie obviously has multiple axes to grind with both Brody and the CIA.
I don’t watch this show, but I have heard great things so maybe I will start. I just wanted to say I loooooove seeing an old “My So Called Life” pic on the recap feed every week. Thanks!
“The Black Hood of Due Process” made me choke on my water. I love this show, and I love your recaps!! I look forward to much more!
