Homeland Recap: Trust is a Three Letter Agency

We find the wives at the event gossiping about wounded veterans and how Jessica is the prettiest girl at the ball. The VP’s wife wants to co-host an event with Jessica so that her pretty face will make someone care about vets without limbs. Like a good political climber, Jessica is honored and eager.

“I don’t actually have to care about the charity, right?”

She lets Brody know about her success and he throws cold water on her aspirations by telling her that the hosts of the party make bombs and if she wanted to help wounded soldiers she’d assassinate the whole room. Way to not sound like a terrorist!

Back in Beirut, an anxious Saul leaps to attention when Carrie is spotted on the monitors at the safe house. That answers that! They buzz her in and let her know they were looking for her and that Fatima will be there in an hour for the arranged meet.

Hang onto that feeling of relief as long as you can, Saul

As we know, Carrie went rogue and now has information that is vital and time sensitive. There is no time for a re-meet so that Saul can judge the credibility of the information. And here they were trying so hard to minimize Carrie’s role so they wouldn’t find themselves in the position of acting on the word of a crazy person.

 “Oh fuck”

They Skype (I won’t even comment on this. I won’t, I won’t, I won’t!) with Estes and their special forces to discuss the information. Saul has a poorly rendered schematic of the street where the meet-up will take place and due to it’s residential nature, it will have to be a ground strike. Red flags are raised over whether this is a trap and Carrie is emphatic in her trust of Fatima. Estes starts questioning how reliable the information is and since the meet-up location was overheard, but not the reason, he throws into the mix the question of whether this can be justified as a threat against America.

“This could just be two buddies grabbing coffee Carrie!”

Also thrown into question is whether it was indeed Abu’s voice Fatima overhead or how to verify that. When Estes learns Saul wasn’t even present the corner has been turned on this operation. Carrie pleads that this woman is terrorized by her husband and wants a way out, that this is a real opportunity. Estes scoffs that Iran is currently searching for a reason to discredit the US and having a woman who was silent for 8 years turn up to give an ex-CIA agent who has a documented hard-on for Abu Nazir and will eat up any story is just too convenient.

MrsMiaWallace is an east coast girl with a  penchant for travel, libations and great cuisine. She is not known to turn down a mimosa or a martini and finds the transition between the two a good way to mark the passing of time since she can never remember to wear a watch. Her secret love for reality tv and addiction to Bravo have drawn her like a moth to the glittering snark of TVGasm,  where she finds there are others like her... hopefully also nursing Bloody Marys.

I got my boyfriend to watch Season 1 a couple of weeks ago, which he finished in 1 week. Last night at the end of the show, this is what you heard in my living room:

    Me: “OH, SNAP!!”
Him: “FUUUUUUUCK!! I can’t wait a whole week!”

Which pretty much sums up every episode. I love this show! :D

I watched season one marathon style a few days before season two began. Having to wait a week between episodes now is killing me!

In other news, your recap is awesome, and I can’t imagine it’s at all easy to recap such an intense show with such dark subject matter. Keep up the good work!!

As for the episode… The last scene of Saul and the video were jaw dropping. Here’s hoping he keeps the under wraps for long enough to actually nail Brody…no giving anymore hints while drunk in parking lots or on secret trips to the woods, please. I assume the person Brody texted was the reporter chick, but assuming a) a junior congressman would even be allowed in that room in the first place, b) be allowed to bring a phone in, and c) successfully send a text (I find it hard to believe secret Pentagon rooms are wifi hotspots), HOW did said text make it through the multiple handlers probably required to relay a message to Nazir himself. I’m pretty good about suspending disbelief for the sake of a great plot, but this really pissed me off. There had to have been a more believable way of allowing for a Nazir getaway.

The scene with reporter chick proves Brody isn’t as conflicted as he pretends. All the bullshit about being a representative and texting next to the joint chiefs…this was his out of he truly weren’t on board with Nazir.

Here’s hoping Carrie somehow teams up with Mike and Lauder to get to the bottom of some things.

“What’s going on. Who are we trying to kill?” Says Brody..like he walked in late after the movie started… Seriously????? Sending a text from a cell phone that my grandmother uses? ??? C’mon writers, we are smarter than this…aren’t we?
