Clint’s tattoo has little to no texture and his hair looks terrible. Jamie has lots of texture but looks hard to read from far away and that if he had used different tones it would have been a different story. Busta’s design has no real depth to it and he isn’t executing what is in his head properly. Sarah is told that even though she added more elements she missed small pieces like the hair that could have used more attention. Sebastian’s looks like a weird river of nothing and Chris tells him not to abandon the tattoo just to win the challenge. Steve did excellent layering and texture while Lalo comes up short on the color saturation again. Lalo says he has a paintery feel to his work but Oliver calls it a cop-out and that it doesn’t help him in accomplishing the standards set in this competition. Fatty did a design that was probably too ambitious with the time limit and Tray had no texture what so ever. The judges believe they don’t even have anything to judge on because of the lack of it. Jesse put in lots of details and Oliver says he can’t find one section that needed to be pointed out. Mark’s piece is so dark that it resembles a cover-up and doesn’t shout Ink Master at all.
(L) Steve (R) Tray
Tray says that this is a once in a lifetime challenge but it’s been hard on him with the lack of sleep and weird schedule and pressure. Before he came into the competition he got blood clots from a surgery he had done and his blood pressure has skyrocketed. Apparently during the challenge he had even lost vision in his eye and he didn’t bring his meds with him to the competition. Um…did he go on this competition to die or something because he even says that if he did die his kids would be proud of him because he died while doing something he loved. He walks off and says he is fine but then of course he collapses and an ambulance is called in. Everyone is waiting around for the judges and to see how Tray is doing when Jamie says that even if Tray is out it won’t save them from eliminations so they had better not get their hopes up.
The judges call in Jesse, Steve, Mark and Busta for eliminations which pisses off Busta who says it’s bullshit he has to be there just to fill a spot (Tray). Jesse and Steve have the top tattoos with Steve winning this round. The judges note the obvious rivalry and that Steve has etched above Jesse only because Jesse has yet to do a black and white piece. Dave announces that Tray has been cleared to compete and that he is also up for elimination with them. Chris tells Mark that he hasn’t shown up for eagles or roses and Mark tries to defend himself as an underdog that is capable. Chris says that even though Busta hasn’t been tattooing that long he has more heart than Mark. Busta says he has applied everything that he has been critiqued on by the judges. He starts to throw Tray under the bus since he can’t defend himself saying he had better fundamentals than Tray. Chris corrects him and says that Tray did a better job, he just didn’t add any texture which is what the challenge was about. The judges end up sending Tray home which is kind of bullshit since he couldn’t even defend himself but probably best if dude is medically fucked up. Tray says that if he didn’t have the medical issues that he would have went all the way but it’s more important for him to live for his kids.
