Last week, Jesse was sent home because of the worst portrait tattoo ever. He tried his best to throw Sebastian under the bus and save himself but it wasn’t enough. Tatu Baby is pretty shocked that Jesse didn’t return to the loft and Sebastian explains that Jesse threw him under the bus. Steve brings up a good point that it’s $100,000 and that Jesse had to do something as they were both neck to neck. Sebastian brings up a good point that he wouldn’t fight off of someone else but is shut down by Steve who says he’d show respect but he wouldn’t not fight for the money.

The last challenge is an Elimination Challenge where Steve gives us his math skills and explains that it’s a 25% chance to win with 4 people left and dropping the ball is bad. Thanks Captain Obvious. All the skills up to this point will be judged and the canvas’ this week are all athletes including NFL players Charlie Johnson, Scott Millkop, Marcus Stroud and Bellator Fighter King Mo. Of course, Sebastian wants to tat on King Mo and freaks out…how come Sebastian wasn’t freaked out to live alongside Mark Matthews? I thought Mark was a big time MMA dude? The twist in the Elimination Challenge is that the canvas will select their artist based on interviewing all of them. Sebastian tries his hardest to get King Mo on his side even though he is the darkest person to tattoo on. Sarah tried to get Charlie to change his mind because Chris will rip apart anyone who does a dragon. Steve doesn’t want to tattoo on dark skin either and does his best to dissuade some of the clients. Tatu wants to prove that she can do whatever walks into her shop so she wants to tackle the dragon tattoo even though she hasn’t done many.

King Mo doesn’t want to pick last and the canvas’ chose the selection order by randomly picking skulls with numbers underneath them. King Mo says he doesn’t want to end up with a scrub (Steve) so when he ends up with the number 1 skull he jumps for joy. Mo picks Sebastian, Scott picks Sarah, Charlie gets Tatu Baby and Marcus ends up with Steve. Steve complains about being the fat kid picked last but I’m pretty sure he just forgot what that was like since the last time he was in school was during the Civil War. Charlie wanted to pick Sarah but selected Tatu because he liked her enthusiasm. I bet if Charlie had seen everything we have of Sarah he would be thanking his stars for Tatu Baby.

Tattoos begin and Oliver explains he wants to see all the fundamentals and that the stakes are higher than ever. King Mo explains, with the greatest of timing, how he doesn’t like tattoo pain while Sebastian tries to rationalize that he has been in greater pain in his life. However, his muscle thigh is so dense and tight so the needle feels like he is being cut instead of tattooed on. Scott yells to King Mo to take the pain while Tatu is worried because upon inspection of the judges, they say absolutely nothing. Sarah doesn’t understand why Tatu didn’t talk her client into something else like she was able to…um because you should be able to do anything that walks into your shop Sarah…I really don’t understand why these people think it’s okay to manipulate their clients into what they want to do. Sarah, Steve and Tatu are sitting on the couches discussing why Sebastian is still there. Steve leads the pack stating that Sebastian is a good artist but hasn’t won a single challenge and Sarah follows with he hasn’t wowed them yet. Tatu says he can copy better than he can create and Steve calls him an imitator. I really can’t get over Steve’s wardrobe…does he not have a mirror? Those shirts shouldn’t be worn by anyone. Ever.
If you like it, spread it!:

Yesterday Spike aired a marathon of season 2, which I watched intermittently. After seeing so many episodes back to back, I’m really glad Steve won. I, too, thought it was BS that Tatu Baby didn’t make top 3, but agree with those who have said that was so that they could let her come back next season. She’s tremendously talented. Even though when I was watching the rifle stock ep, they showed the outcomes and I laughed. I couldn’t help but think of the gasm poster (sorry too lazy to look it up) who said something like “Tatu Baby’s dog looked sad…like hunting depressed him”.
Sarah is talented but she’s a nutcase.
Jamie is handsome, but there is something subtlely creepy about him. I told Mr. Dancer that he looks like someone who could easily bring in a semi-automatic with an extra large clip and open fire. There’s just something bubbling under the surface…
The only person who wears worse shirts than Steve is Alan Harper on Two and Half Men.
I’m SO glad Steve won, even though I don’t think he was as good as last season’s contestants either.
And that finale was AWFUL. Just bad production values all around. It was thrown together and it showed. The introductions of all the contestants was mis-timed. Dave Navarro could not read a teleprompter to save his life. And then he cut people off as they were trying to speak! And the guy whose tattoo was gonna get fixes by tommy yelling our ” I thought you should’ve won!” in the middle of show… AND, worst of all, the judges were critiquing tattoos we couldn’t see. Like, for real, stop showing me Sebastian, Sarah, and Steve ( wow all S names, never noticed that) and show me the tattoos so I understand what the hell the judges are taking about.
Also, Sarah did look good but she has not been working out. That was a corset and spanx.
That finale was so ratchet. I had high hopes, but the broken english in Dave’s opening and the mis-timed, awkward intro of the other artists quickly indicated what type of evening this was going to be.
There was only one outcome to this season, so Steve’s win was not a shocker at all.
He deserved it, although to tell the truth, I was not moved by his or anyone else’s up there’s tattoo. His was the best, but I don’t know…I was let down.
I feel bad for Sebastian’s canvas, because he never had a shot at winning, so there was no reason to let him tattoo that hideous shit on her back. And then it wasn’t even executed well…all grey and wishy-washy looking. I hope Ink Master will pay for a coverup or a skin graft if need be, because I can’t imagine having to wear that on my back forever.
No more going to the beach, no more summer tops, no more doggy style sexual relations….how is she supposed to enjoy life?
I wanted to punch Sarah during that long speech she launched into when Chris asked her why she gave her Valkyrie a black eye. Best part of the season ending is that I will never again have to hear her yapping about being beat down and still fighting and whatever.
I also agree that she hadn’t been working out or dieting…she put on a squeem and some spanx. If she had actually lost weight, her head would be in better proportion to her body.
Tommy looked delicious as usual though.
I’m so happy for Katherine that she gets another shot at the next season. I can’t say that she’ll be a shoo-in because it depends on the talent level of next season’s cast, but she should at least make the finale. Especially if she uses the time to practice.
And I hope that she changes her wardrobe…no more too-tight, too-short everything, okay Katherine?
Mark is a bad MMA fighter. I looked it up; he wins as much as he loses.
Merry Christmas and thanks for the recaps, SG!!
Looking forward to Face Off!
If they do a live finale next season, they really need to let either Peck or Nunez be the host. Navarro was terrible, and I loved how it seemed like Peck was sabotaging him by sticking his head in the frame so he could stick his tongue out and do the devil-horns.
Kat rolling her eyes behind Mark when he was saying the whole “I’m an MMA fighter, so the tattoo was crappy because I broke my hand,” was awesome. And on the MMA topic: I wonder if Sebastian wanted both Cupcake and King Mo solely so he could put horrible tattoos on them to get back at Mark.
Also, Navarro was totally hitting on Sarah the whole time. It seemed like the only time he could get a full sentence out of his mouth that sounded normal was when he was flirting with her.
Wow, I seriously don’t understand the hate that Sarah is getting here (and, to be fair, in other places as well). She was incredibly talented; she was honestly robbed during the Star Wars week (and in my opinion, several others as well). She acted like a nutcase, but being a good artist has very little to do with being sane.
I didn’t find any of Tatu Baby’s work to be impressive enough to win any of the weeks, with one exception; if she had been able to finish that damn cheetah, she would definitely have deserved that weeks win. That isn’t to say that I don’t think she did a decent job on a couple of the weeks. Her Yoda was good (just not as good as Sarah’s tattoo), her black and white submission was pretty and I really liked her zombie doll lady during horror week. Other than that…was it really that big of a loss that she didn’t go to the finals? To be honest, neither she nor Sebastien (God, don’t get me started on that talentless hack) deserved to be there at the end.
I think the fact that Sarah had such an abrasive personality has the most to do with why she didn’t have more support. Again, being skilled in any form of art has nothing to do with being likeable. I absolutely loathed Kal Kutta, but if he had been a decent artist, I would certainly have been pulling for him to win. I know that it’s such a lame trope now, but an artistic competition is not a personality contest. Save pulling for the good guy for when you watch crap shows like Survivor and The Bachelorette.
