Make it or Break it Series Finale Recap

Annie warns Lauren that if she sees 5 spikes she will blow her whistle and that she will have to stop her routine. OMG…SUMMER! I am so glad she made it to support Lauren…now to get her back with Steve in 20 minutes…Regina asks if Lauren has been able to complete her routine without hitting 5 spikes and Marcus tells her that she hasn’t. He explains that now there is added stress with the trials so there is no way she will be able to finish. Lauren starts off wobbly but then looks over at Jake who shows her how to slow down and breathe as her hand starts going numb as if she was about to black out. She completes her routine and dismounts perfectly.

What evil mastermind doesn’t password protect?

The next routine is performed by Wendy who is also on the beam. This sequence is shot with parts of her performance and Lauren searching Wendy’s room. She starts by looking through her things and then finds the shipping package for the drugs in her trash can. Sloppy…you couldn’t throw it away elsewhere on campus? Lauren then looks on Wendy’s laptop and finds the purchasing order on the website where the drugs were purchased. REALLY? So Wendy went through all of that to get sloppy and leave her laptop open without password protection, didn’t clear her computer’s history, left the packaging in the trash…AND tried to outsmart Lauren? What a waste of effort on her part. Kelly and Sheila wouldn’t have gotten caught.

Be more than a Keeler.

Payson is getting a pep talk from her dad and explaining how playing it safe guarantees her a spot on the team. She reminds him of how he told her she puts her emotions into boxes and how she now feels like she is trapped in a box. Mark stops her and tells her to stop talking like a Keeler and how they are safe unlike the Cruzes or Tanners. He tells her to transcend being safe and write her own history and to go for what she feels is right. I love how the dads basically put everything into the girl’s lives only to let them be reckless in the final moments when it really matters. Payson gives Mac her new music and tells him that he doesn’t know what she can really do. Sasha gives her a thumbs up and she begins her routine wearing the lowest cut sparkliest red leo ever. With her hair down and her boobs two seconds from popage, she performs her spicy latin floor routine flawlessly. Trials are over and the team will be announced shortly. Which of our girls will make it to the Olympics and which ones have fallen short?

WHO IS COLLEEN?

Coach Mac is banking on Jordan, Wendy, Payson, Kaylie and Colleen. You know Colleen right, she’s that random girl who does all the awesome flippies and stuff that we never see because we have NO IDEA WHO SHE IS! They should have at least introduced her as a side character or something. Marcus is being a hardass and tells him that Kaylie is out and they only let her compete to appease her friends because they all know what her test will come back as. Kaylie meanwhile is taking her blood test when Lauren walks in and says they should stop because she is going to test positive again. She walks into the meeting with the NGO and hands them the papers she found and explains that “little bitch Wendy” did it.

Make it work!

Summer and Sasha have found each other again and Summer tells Sasha how proud she is of him. He says there were regrets that he didn’t try hard enough to make things work with Summer and she says that they did try but it wasn’t possible. They kiss and he asks her if she has stopped believing in miracles. I wanted some Summer and Steve but I think these two were always meant for each other and I am glad they wrapped their story up nicely.

SG, Nice way to end the series!! I wish they would have gone maybe one or two more episodes…It would have been nice to see a couple more episodes where it was just the girls, and not the gymnastics part.

Yay for Lauren finally coming around. Sure it took all of the series, but I am glad she finally grew up!

I also liked all the leo’s in the epi except for the one that they put on Ayla/Payson. That full on red did the girl no justice! I like the shiny material, not that felt looking stuff.

    Yay for Kellie Parker :)

What the hell am I going to watch next week at 9pm? Sure as shit won’t be the Bachelorette!

I would have loved just a little blurb over the shots of each of the girls about how they did at the Olympics. Pretty decent send off to the show nonetheless. Thanks for the recaps this season!!!

I felt like they tied everything up fairly nicely considering the amount they needed to cover in one episode. I agree with Casey—it would have been nice to get some sort of epilogue/text about the Olympics outcome. I actually care more about what they go on to do with the rest of their lives, though.

I got so excited when Kelly Parker showed up and was standing with the girls supporting them!

For once, YES, LAUREN!! I never thought I would say that. Better late than never I guess.

Great job with these recaps, SG! Absolutely fantastic! So sad that it is over. They had a good run, though.

I was pleasantly surprised how they finished everything up nicely. It was funny how the 5th girl was someone no one ever heard of before. Also I remember the Atlanta Olympics they had 7 girls biecause it was the Magnificent 7. So wonder why only 5?

After Lauren wins her gold medal she has a great career in detective work! I loved how she figured it out!! You can’t sneak a sneak.

    @April

The FIG (international gymnastic committee) lowered the gymnastic team participants from 7 to 6. But now this year they are lowering it to 5. This way you need more all arounders and not so many specialists. That’s why the Chinese beat us last time. All the bar workers they had were amazing and the bars could rack up the highest score of all the events. Lol it’s called code-whoring. Can’t do that so much anymore.

My daughter was a gymnast for 9 years before she switched to dance, so I know alot of useless gymnastics info lol.

Kaylie has a brother. I forget his name but he was in like 2 episodes in the first season. I think they hinted something could happened between him and Emily but I can’t remember.

and of course I just noticed I only read the first page. I was wondering why it seemed so short :-P

I tried to ignore it when these supposedly elite athletes drank crap at constant parties, stayed out late, went on road trips ignoring their diet, ran around in high heels, and basically violated every rule of athlete discipline. But the last straw was Payson putting on strappy heels and dancing two days before Olympic tryouts. What? Her feet would be a mess of blisters! Arggghhh! Reality much?

@SG You did an extra awesome job on this recap! Which I extra appreciated. Because I didn’t like the show itself as much as most people did.

Maybe I was just sad because it was the last episode. And in denial. But it looked like to me the writers already had 1 foot out the door. I know there was lots to tie up. But I had that same thought about where are the PSAs. Just a hashtag? Seriously? They could’ve at least put up a phone number.

We didn’t get to see near enough of the villains getting their comeuppance. Specially Evil Little Wendy. They should’ve showed her finding out Kaylie helped save her from getting child molested!

And we didn’t get to see Creepy Coach get busted or hardly anything of his face at the perp walk.

They also forgot to explain how come Evil Little Wendy didn’t just go down to the CVS and get some sudafed. I know they make you sign for it now. But she doesn’t have a fake ID?

Getting it with a credit card like that was even stupider than leaving everything out in her room.

Swapping Lauren and Kaylie around like that was good though! Now we’ll wonder if we were opposite wrong about both of them for 4 yrs!

Plus what about Payson turning into Miss Technology all of a sudden? Last week she was inventing medical equipment. And then it turns out she’s also learned about “social media”!

@Escapee I wondered about her going to the club and dancing around with high heels on too. Right before her most important day ever!

@SG I was so hoping you’d start doing a show I watch. I’m so behind in my TV viewing already. Now I have to figure out how to start watching Grimm too. Not to mention liking it.

I am glad this show is done, it was really winding down. They should do the same style of show but with ice skating. They would have two years before the next winter olympics, so it could also have an end date.

I might be wrong, but I thought that when they were announcing the final 5, each of the main girls was standing next to their gymnast stunt double. It might not be, but they were all paired up with the same sort of hair and the same height. I could see the producers doing this in the last episode to give some screen/face time to the doubles (except for all the really bad editing where it is very clear it is not the actress anymore).

What is Otis made off that it can be moved so easily? It is a huge statue, even if it was hallow, it would be heavy.
