It’s not like I expect every episode from here on out to be about the recovery efforts. In order to recover, regular life as you know it has to happen in anyway it can. That means going back to your day to day as best you can. But, when you are making that drive or walk, you see the house your friend is still trying to help get cleaned up. You still see the huge list of things you need to buy/borrow/finagle in order to help make things that much more normal. By just ignoring it it’s like this show is acting in a vacuum. It’s weird and kind of creepy.
My biggest problem is that I hate all of the stock footage of buildings looking pristine. Something happened here. There should be an acknowledgement of that. If CousinSuckUp pulls up to a church, we should see the mud that is still standing in the parking lot. If Ang takes Neil shopping, we should see the neatly packed piles of debris waiting to be picked up. This isn’t Canada for the love of Pete! This is Staten Island! Is it so much to ask that Jennifer actually tell the full story?!
OK. I’m done with that rant. Back to the show…
So, at this event, CousinSuckUp tells Karen that Lee is out of prison. Karen, being who she is, can’t just say, “that’s nice, is Drita happy about it?” She has to make it about her and make this really awkward speech about how if he leaves her alone, she will leave him alone. At the end of that, she says something about finally being in a good place with Drita and not wanting Lee to disrupt that.
Hey Karen, I’ve got some news for you. Lee is way too invested in manipulating Drita into taking him back to worry about your broke down ass. Seriously, he and Jennifer G. had to make a lot of promises and sacrifices in order for her to arrange his showing up at Drita’s house, holding their kids, as a way to win her back. The last thing he is worried about is your storyline.
Renee is back from rehab. Drita fills her in on the Lee situation and again, I get this nagging feeling that the only reason all of the other women have forgiven Drita is because she seems willing to take Lee back. Renee wants to get everyone, except Carla, together to hangout and catch up and celebrate her recovery.
Now for a very entertaining, if desperate, part of the episode. Karen is hanging out in the studio with Storm – he is her business partner, or producer, or something that I don’t really care about. But, I love how desperate she is throughout this whole scene. Poor Storm is kind of clueless. But, Karen shamelessly tells him all about how it’s been so long since she had been on a date and how lonely she is while she is trying to rebuild a full life in New York. It would be sad if it were anyone other than Karen. But, because it is Karen, it’s kind of hilarious.
