“Hi! Hope I’m not too late to make you feel like shit about yourself!”
Holy sweet moly, gasmi. What a great show tonight! I was riveted. And I’m totally digging each character’s development. All the choices they made seemed authentic (minus one GLARING one that I’ll get into later). Lovelovelove it! So there was a fuckload of drama swirling around fair Nashville tonight.
Juliette’s got some nasty mama drama going on. And seriously, I like the storyline. I like that she has a scrabbly, grotty backstory. I like that she has a mom she’s cut out of her life because that is what people have to do with addicts sometimes to have any sort of life for themselves. What I HATE is the decision to have CrackMom come live with her. It sounds like a terrible, unfunny sitcom. And if it starts heading down predicable street – with CrackMom stealing from Juliette and hiding drugs on her tour bus, etc, etc, I will be so disappointed. Definitely more on this in the recap as I have a lot to say about this.
We learned a couple of big things about Rayna’s family. 1. Mama cheated on the Devil (Lamar) and 2. The Devil does have feelings after all. Well, maybe one. One tiny, shivering, crumbling emotion tucked deep inside that evil carapace.
Prepare yourself, I’m going to give you a lecture about a child’s need for a supportive, nuturing and present parent later in the hour. Try not to laugh in my face.
Juliette continues to make me love her by being so completely needy and vulnerable while not being irritatingly needy and vulnerable. And she keeps making the same damn mistakes with some surprising and realistic twists along the way. With CrackMom, with Deacon, with herself. It’s so sad but so true to life. I just want to shake her and tell her she is better than that and deserves WAY better than Deacon, a man too weak to cut the cord with a woman who had no problem dangling her happy beautiful family in front of his face for the last twenty years and who will ALWAYS put Rayna first, no matter what.
Scarlet and Gunnar record for Watty. Scarlet relies on Avery for support as he uses her for entrée with Watty. I’m so not bothered by that. I much prefer when people do good things for bad or selfish reasons instead of doing bad things for so-called good reasons. It’s way more believable and really, who cares if he helped Scarlet so that he could make some more contacts in the biz? Certainly not me.
For Teddy, shit is about to get real. His credit union is being audited and the look of “Oh shit” was priceless. And so obvious, I wonder why the bank guy didn’t pick up the phone and call the IRS as soon as Teddy hightailed it outta there.
If you like it, spread it!:

My husband said this episode should be entitled “First World problems”. Oh no! My Daddy gave me a huge check to help our family out in financial crisis! The horror! I know he gave stipulations, but it still cracked me up. Also an idea about cutting back on spending, how about not having star fruit and pomengrantes just sitting around your kitchen. Good Lord! First World problems.
I had some respect for Juliette for at least saying “No” to her mom and not being emotionally manipulated.
This was a great episode. I’m so glad Lucky Spencer isn’t being a douche, even if it is for his own personal gain. I’m calling it now…Rayna’s mama was having an affair with Watty White. Looking forward to the recap!
Ha ha @April…I said the same thing “Wow those fruits are very strategically placed in that fabulous kitchen!!” I was ready to give up after the first episode but I’m glad I kept watching. It’s really growing on me.
Wow you do not like Rayna!
@ caligal: You beat me to saying Rayna’s mama’s big love was Watty White. My money’s on that one too.
