It felt very real and I enjoyed every second. In a pained way because it was a hard convo to sit through.
Juliette is getting ready for her trip down the aisle. Sean couriers over his grandmother’s necklace. Juliette looks less than thrilled.
You mean, I have to wear this hideous thing? This marriage is over.
I’m not too cool to admit I spent the last five minutes of the show in tears as montages rolled as Gunnar and Scarlett sang their new song Change Your Mind.
Here’s where we leave them:
Deacon: Consumed by regret and missed chances.
Scarlett and Gunnar: Slowly finding a new way forward.
Sean: Completely clueless about so many things but right now, that there is something deeply, fundamentally sad about Juliette as evidenced by her half of the church being bare.
Rayna and Teddy: Probably breaking up but trying to keep their shit together for the kids.
Juliette: Choosing herself.
And now, we’re in California!
Juliette and Rayna are announcing their big stadium show. Their tour is called (and I’m gagging even typing it) Red Lips and White Lies. Jesus Fucking Christ.
They both look delicious though.
Each of them gets a grilling from the reporters. Juliette because she stood Virgin up at the altar and Rayna because this is her first tour without Deacon. Although Rayna did get a bit of a softball. Juliette’s on edge because as Rayna effusively insists that this tour will be the best yet for her fans, she just has to pipe up with it will likely be the first Rayna show her fans have ever seen. The guffaws are totally forced and we get these reaction shots:
I’m going to have to cut that bitch.
Rayna videochats with the girls and then has a fruitless conversation with Teddy. He’s over it. Rayna looks defeated and confused.
I’ve said it before and I know I’ll say it again but this is what I want my forties to look like!
Gunnar practically twists himself in knots to avoid riding to Austin with Scarlett (Austin Scarlett! Even I know that name and I’ve never even watched one single episode of Project Runway). Too bad, he’s outwitted by Cornpone Barbie.
