Emma sends Henry out of the room, telling him to wait in the bathroom. Then she tries once more to convince Rumpy that there’s nothing here for him. He is not buying it; he knows she’s holding something back and he wants to know what the hell it is. If she doesn’t tell him, he’s gonna make her tell him.
Emma’s not scared; he doesn’t have magic here. Yeah, well, he doesn’t need magic!! Emma is not budging and Rumpy is losing it: they had a deal. A DEAL! And no one breaks deals with him!!!!!
Leave her alone dad!!
Dun dun dun!!!!
In FairyLand, Rumpy has been sent back from the war now that he’s a gimp and all. But Milah (with newly born son in her arms) is not thrilled to see him AT ALL. You see, the word has spread about him hobbling himself because he was too chicken shit to fight and Milah is PISSED about it.
Rumpy tries to explain to her that it wasn’t because he was scared; it was because of the witch’s prophecy. He doesn’t want Bae growing up without a dad! Better without a dad than with a coward, is Milah’s viewpoint on the subject. She hands over the babe to Rumpy and goes out, presumably to the local alehouse.
Awwww….this may be the cutest Rumpy picture ever.
Over in Bae’s bachelor pad Rumpy is thrilled and kinda in shock that his son came back for him. Not for him, for EMMA. Wait….they know each other???? How do they know each other??? Emma tries to lie again, but Rumpy is having none of it; he’s not an idiot. How do they know each other?
Just then, Henry decides to come back into the room, asking what’s going on…
Light bulb!
Who is that???
My Kid
Huuuuuuhhhhh?!?!
Emma tries to send Henry out of the room again but Bae keeps asking how old he is until Henry bursts out that he’s eleven and why the hell is everyone yelling???? Eleven…..Bae asks if Henry is his son, but Henry answers that he’s not; Henry’s dad died, his mom told him so.
Bae knows that’s not true and asks again if Henry is his son…..yes, Emma replies. And Henry runs out of the room and onto the fire escape. Emma follows.
Rumpy uses this moment as a chance to ask his son to talk to him. Nope, not gonna happen; Bae just came back to make sure Emma didn’t break her deal with him. Well, the deal was that she get Bae to talk to him….so……
Looks like you’re gonna have to listen to what I have to say
If you like it, spread it!:

A funny thing happened to me today. A friend sent me a message thanking me for telling her how great OUAT was since she and her kids had never watched it (she then bought the first season DVDs for Valentine’s). They totally love it and her kids are absolutely addicted to it! Now I am a pusher, dammit!!
Oh well, guess fate had something to do with it!
Neil being Bae was a little too predictable so I was disappointed but enjoyed the rest of it. I do think he will now go back to Storybrooke with them to protect his son.
And “undoing” could mean that Rumpel is no longer the Dark One which could be a good thing…
Still loving this show.
Great recap, as always!
Then WHYis Rumpy worried about losing his memory? He didn’t lose his memory as part of the curse either; he knew who he was. So….shouldn’t he be in no danger of losing his memory either? Please help me out here, Gasmi!
The producers have said that Rumple did lose his memory as part of the curse. The reason he asked what they planned to name the baby and his writing of Emma’s name over and over and over again was so that when Emma finally came to town it would reawaken his memories. Now, is it stupid have this kind of detail only explained in a producers interview? Well, yeah, but it is what it is, Rumple thought he was Gold and only had Gold memories until he met Emma and heard her name.
I have sinus infection and am full of medicine right now. So since this will be just a bunch thoughts, which will probably no different than usual..but any who…
I think the Rumpy memory thing is easy to figure without the producers explaining it. He still had a curse identity whether he had his memories or not, the people of StoryBrooke still knew him as Gold. Hasn’t Henry already been his undoing? He bought Emma to StoryBrooke, this led to cursing being broken and Rumply getting to find his son. This gave Cora and Regina the opportunity to find his dagger.
There’s still the chance of Nealfire getting punch. If he goes back to StoryBrooke Snow or Charming, most likely Snow, will punch him. How did August know who he was?
I loved the Seer. I want more of her. I think she was so awesome, which might because she was a red head. I love red hair. If I was white I would want to be a red head.
Anybody else notice that the casting director for this show, really has thing for brunettes?
We get to meet Snow’s mom next week. Henry’s other great-grandmother.
How old is Barbara Hershey?
Seer prophecies (in stories) are almost always self-fulfilling prophecies. The parties make decisions that they hope alter the outcome and instead cause it. A Boy being his undoing, could be anything. Its his own hubris that is going to bring him down. He will make a move to kill Henry and in return will probably die…or wish he had.
@sag – Barbara is 65. Unless you discount the years she was Barbara Seagull, then she’s 60.
Ok I heard a theory that the boy that is rumpy’s “undoing” is not Henry its August. They really didn’t elaborate on that theory but I thought it was interesting.
I ask you this. Can that no good Charming possibly get any dumber then he is already??? The answer is YES!!! He sure can. I thought I was his grandfather, just about floored me!!! I mean rocks ain’t even that stupid!!! Snow got it right when she said that Charming would be nothing like James. I have to agree with her whole heartedly on this. I liked James but can’t stand Charming. James was way smarter the Charming will ever be. I refuse to call Charming, *David* because that in itself was just plain stupid. Poor Charming, I guess all roads lead to stupid for the bastard any way you look at it!!!
Not saying that I am so smart myself. It just hit me while reading the recap that the Oscars were on this Sunday instead of the show. I don’t really get these award shows. They way over pay these guys and then want to give them an award for doing it. What a scam!!! I guess I should have been an actor instead of being a wortless piece of garbage. I might of had money and an award ta boot!!!
Last but not least. Do we really think that Rumpty Dumpty will kill Henry??? He is lots of things but is he a kid killer??? Especially his own grandson!!! I think that the *undoing* is that Cora and Regina now have the Dark One dagger. Then again, what do I know??? I say this because Charming is even smarter then I am…..
Great recap Potty!!! Sometimes your recap is even better then the show actually was. OK, all the time!!! <3 <3 <3
Did anyone else find it odd that when they were going on and on about Neil being Henry’s dad – no one mentioned Rumpy being his grandfather? Or did I just miss it?
Charming mentioned it. He was pretty unhappy. He said something like \I’m Henry’s grandfather how can Rumple be\ and Snow reminded him that people have more than one grandparent. Then we got the cute scene of how happy they were that Fairy Tale Land didn’t celebrate Thanksgiving.
Hey guys,
I feel like I’ve been M.I.A. forever. I’ve had the flu for what seems like a month now and real life is kicking my butt. I’m two episodes behind *sobs quietly* I’ll be caught up by next week since this week is the academy awards and read everyone’s commentary then. Bummed I can’t be apart of the discussion this week, I just didn’t have any time.
Happy Theorizing!
I’ve been waiting for this recap! It was sooooo good to have an entertaining episode after last week’s GIANT dud! Of course any episode involving Mr. Gold is going to be good and this one was right up there. I can’t decide if I want him to be horribly mean and vengeful or charming and compassionate. I can’t have them both can I? The man is so complex and Robert Carlyle plays him to perfection. Why doesn’t he get recognized for an EMMY?
Anyway… I still don’t understand why he, the all powerful Rumpelstiltskin, would be the one to lose his memory when he came to Storybrooke, while Regina would not. I know she’s the one who created the curse, but then she would not ever have to worry about him ever again if he couldn’t remember… right? BUT, he would know that because he took the seer’s “gift” from her…. arghhh! I’m making myself crazy. Aren’t I paying attention… is that it?
I thought it was entirely to easy for Cora and Regina to find the dagger, but they really didn’t show them finding it, did they, just the location of where they think it is.
I still don’t understand why Regina used magic to go thru Belle’s purse except to get filmed by the stranger……
LOVED the recap!
@chooch850: They didn’t show them finding it. But there’s a picture of Charming holding it the dagger, so they do find it at some point.
@Mimo: I hope I age that well.
One thing that really bothered me: Why did Pinnochio have to type on his typewriter that he knew Neal was Bae? Why not just verbally tell him?
WendyBird, I feel for you darlin!!! I had it about a month and a half ago and thought I was gonna die. I thought I wasn’t ever going to get over it. So I hope you get better real soon!!!
@sagittariuskim – I must have missed that Charming was holding the dagger. Doesn’t it seem kind of funny that Charming would be holding it??? It makes me wonder how he got it??? I just can’t see Cora and Regina just casually walking up to Charming and saying, “Look here what I found. Ya want it???”
@Wendy – It just wouldn’t have been as dramatic if he would have just went up and said, “Hey dude, like I know yer name is Baelfire man!!!” Plus they never would have got that great camera angle of him looking in the box!!!
@chooch850 – I would think that the show would need to be more EMMY worthy for them to look at the acting by the individuals in this show. I also think that Robert Carlyle is an EMMY worthy actor. I just can’t see it happening on this show. Like I know anything!!! I am just a dumbass with an opinion that don’t mean a damn thing!!! I believe anything is possible with this guy so you never know. I will keep my hopes up with you…
I agree that Once Upon a Time is the type of show that Emmy voters don’t consider Emmy worthy. Genre shows (fantasy and science fiction) are usually not considered quality enough to win Emmys. This sadly extends to the actors on these shows as well. It’s one of the reasons John Noble was never nominated. Robert Carlyle is doing fantastic work on the show, but I doubt he will ever be recognized for it.
OUAT is becoming a bigger and bigger ratings grabber with a larger audience much like LOST and we all know that Michael Emerson and Terry O’Quinn both won an EMMY for that show. I think Robert Carlyle should have a good chance. Isn’t it up to ABC to submit him as a possible candidate along with a clip of his work?
Maybe we need to start a Facebook campaign!
Okay so I have a lot of comments to respond to and my own thoughts, I apologize for the length of this post in advance.
Pikey: I like the idea that “undoing” means no more Dark One, then maybe Rumpel can love Belle to the fullest.
Percysowner: That’s intriguing and makes a lot of sense. I recall Rumpel asking Regina to make him comfortable in Storybrooke but that did not guarantee his memories. Also, Regina didn’t ask Rumpel if he knew who he really was until things started to change with Emma around.
Sagi: Feel better! Sinus infections are not fun. I don’t think Snow will punch Neal, she doesn’t know what happened between Emma and Neal and there’s not exactly going to be an opportunity for Emma to explain some they’ll be preoccupied with the dagger and Charming is still causing a but of a rift with wanting to go back to Storybrooke…August might get punched, but he doesn’t deserve it…Well maybe a little because he’s been missing all season! I’m excited to meet Snow’s mom! Having an episode titled “The Queen Is Dead” has me hoping for some Wizard of Oz references, maybe setup for that story, do I dare hope?! There’s a theory circulating that I really like that August’s typewriter is magic and when August approached Neal it showed him, just as August said, something magical. In this case it was the fear of being found out. What I’m curious is, Neal is a pseudo name…Though how does time really work in this show?! Is he the real Neal Cassidy or did he just pick the name because he’s done things like him and it fit? Ugh, here I go getting caught up in someone’s name…again…I can’t do it, not again!
HoneyBee: The use of the word “Undoing” is incredibly ambiguous and intriguing. My “Harry Potter Senses” are tingling…”One cannot live while the other survives” was a tricky statement too…And even more so when you consider that Harry didn’t use The Killing Curse…There were multiple interpretations of the Prophecy and this statement is very similar…Also time works differently in this show than I’ve heard, Rumpel can see things that may or may not happen, that means whatever “undoing” means to Rumpel isn’t a fixed point, anything could happen!
J538: OMG that theory is awesome! Especially since some theories are circulating about August right now that would make that very very true.
Mimo: Yes I noticed that and I know Charming mentioned it but I would have liked someone in the vicinity of Henry to point it out, it’s a very intriguing piece of information. Henry is the descendent of two huge legacies, especially within the show’s own mythology.
WENDY!!! Also, feel better! Lots of fluids! Come back soon! When you do catch up we need to discuss how very “Bad Wolf” that scene with the seer at the end felt…When Rumpel was saying how he sees time, it just felt very “I can see all of time and space, everything that ever was and ever will be…” To be discussed at a later date!
CHOOCH: Robert Carlyle NEEDS an Emmy! And I have confidence in Once to send in the requirements in order to nominate him. The writers always tweet about him and how he should win an Emmy, especially when episodes are centered around him. I have a Rumpel moment and if it was me sending in the clip I know exactly what I send! Also, in this episode that moment with the baby nose boop…Uh! So much adorableness! He shines on the show, even with simpler material. Anyway, in the next episode Charming and Snow find out what Regina and Cora are up to and go looking for the dagger too.
(Other) Wendy: I think the fact that it was written in the typewriter somehow made it more threatening, telling him verbally would not have been as powerful? Like I mentioned, the typewriter may have magical qualities so it wasn’t just what was written but something Neal felt.
Mike: Snow and Charming get to it first, he’s not as dumb as he looks.
Now onto my own thoughts! PottyMouth, great recap! Sadly there was a lack of punching but I really really enjoyed this episode. I don’t think the big game changing reveal was a let down at all. Never did it cross my mind that it was Bael, they gave that plot point away in the promo because this was like the episodes I fell in love with last season, it wasn’t about Neal but Henry and who Henry is in relation to the whole story. Remember the show opened with Henry’s reasoning for looking for Emma being because he wasn’t in the book. But that’s the beauty of it for the viewers…The story begins and ends with Henry. I did expect the whole reunion between Emma and Bael and then Henry to be a bit more emotional. But I especially disappointed it onviously wasn’t really filmed in NYC. And don’t lose hope, Graham is returning in full Sheriff mode, I am anticipating the leather and scruff with bated breath…Except not really because with all these breaks that would actually be a really bad idea.
Back to the episode, Rumpel loves Henry, we’ve seen him be so tender to him this season! And to make it even more complicated Henry is his grandson. I think he’s a changed man from when he thought he could just kill this boy.
Funny how that worked out…Rumpel brought Henry to Storybrooke. Henry brought Emma, the savior, to break the curse, Emma brought Rumpel to Bae and Henry will come full circle by bringing down Rumpel…I apologize for continuing to reference Harry Potter but the fantasy stuff just draws some insane parallels in my mind and this feels very “I open at the close” to me.
Anyway, I anticipate Belle getting her memory back at some point…Rumpel told her where the dagger is I don’t think he’ll keep this secret from her either…if Rumpel tells Belle she’ll stop him from doing anything to Henry…I hope bringing Bael back helps Rumpel fix Belle, that would be wonderful!
On a side note, if Belle marries Rumpel she’ll be Bae’s Stepmother and Henry’s Step Grandmother! IDK why I find this so funny…But I do!
Speaking of Belle, Greg needs to stop being a creepy voyeur and GTFO now! He’s ruining everything! Seriously, what is his point?! What is the point of his stupid license plate and this ridiculous Her he keeps calling?! Why diesn’t Ruby just eat him?! Is the video going to go viral?
In the Canadian promo Bael explains that he knows Hook, he says that our world wasn’t the first world he came to otherwise he would considerably older. I’m confused how this works as he went to a land without magic and I was under the impression that our world was the only such world and that’s why Rumpel had the curse constructed so specifically. I assume we’ll learn the mystery of where he went and how he got from there to our world soon…Perhaps it just took some faith, trust and pixie dust?! Which is my way of saying maybe he’s a Lost Boy! Also how did Bael know who Emma was…He said “If I’d known I wouldn’t have touched you”…He was gone before Charming and Snow even got together?
I absolutely despise Cora, and not in the “I love to hate her” kind of way, she makes me sooo mad! And her relationship with Regina infuriates me! Not only is she ruining her daughter for her own gain but she’s so manipulative and Regina knows it and yet her urge to be accepted and praised and loved in whatever capacity by Cora, completely trumped logic and prior knowledge. I think that Regina’s end game right now is doing exactly as mommy dearest says, which means getting Snow and Emma and Charming and even Rumpel out of the way and then manipulating Henry the same way she’s been manipulated. The thing is Henry has had that conversation with Regina and it ended with Regina vowing to do better for Henry because she didn’t want to become Cora. Also, Cora and Henry have not come into contact with each other yet and I may be biased because I love Henry and I think he’s a great character but I don’t think he’s going to get along with Cora so well and Emma can do magic and she’s the product of True Love and so Henry can probably do magic too but he doesn’t need to, he has a childlike innocence but he also wants to be a hero and he has the wear withal to figure out how to stop Cora without sacrificing anyone and probably bringing Regina back from the dark side…The interesting thing is Bael is completely unaccounted for, especially in his relationship to Henry…So Regina is going to have a lot of barriers to break and I imagine she’ll come to her senses before then…The other curious factor is Hook…He sides with whoever will give him the better advantage but he doesn’t have magic so he’s kind of useless to Cora but he has no reason to be good and I don’t think Bael will take kindly to Hook flirting with Emma, especially after Hook stabs Rumpel, which is something in the promo…All in all like Neal said “Everyone has been messed up by their parents” except Henry, well not as much…Yet…And he’s the key to this whole battle, which is shaping up to be an intense fight since Rumpel has no powers and Regina will probably become a double agent…
And finally that was a super strange offer to change Bael to a 14 year old…Such a terrible suggestion! And yet I feel like this notion of Rumpel or magic in general being able to make someone younger is going to come up again…Hmmm…The question is, is that fair? Charming and Snow don’t get a second chance with baby Emma…It’s just surprising to learn magic can do that, I guess.
Back to FairyTale Land****
One more thought: What do you think Henry would do if Rumpel was honest with him about the prophecy? Hmmm…Could telling Henry the truth still bring about Rumpel’s “undoing”?
@Mike: Once’s Facebook page posts pics from upcoming episodes. So far they posted pics of Snow’s mother and Charming holding the dagger.
@Adventure: Thanks, I really hope I get better this weekend. I have 2 tests and a paper due next week, all the day after each other, Mon, Tues, and Wed. I hope somebody punches Nealfire. He deserves it for breaking the Emma/Rumpy fight, which we all know was going to be awesome.
I hate how Sci-Fi and Fantasy shows get ignored by award shows. I feel like these type if shows always have the best actors and actresses in them. I think I’ve laughed and cried more at Once, Supernatural, etc. then most of that get nominated.
@iwanna – Charming not being as dumb as he looks is a matter of opinion, but you had my funny bone tickled for sure. I also think that your hating Cora and not the love to hate her thing is exactly the response they are hoping to accomplish with her character. To me, you feeling that way about her means that they are doing a good job. The one thing I definitely like about this show is that I seem to really get into the characters. The few shows I do watch I don’t seem to be no where near as attached to the characters as much as I do this one. Even though I like them shows more. If that makes any sense.
@chooch850 – A Facebook campaign might just be a great idea!!! You can’t change people’s minds if they don’t know that it needs changing…
@sagittariuskim – OUAT’s Facebook page has never entered my mind. I even have it in my likes on Facebook. So thanks. Dammit Charming I hate it that you are smarter then I am!!!
It is kind of funny that Fantasy and Sci-Fi are past over for the Adventure and Drama genres. I am not much for Cop shows or Doctor shows. I did like HOUSE but he was a whole different kind of critter any way you look at it. Lawyer shows just bore the hell out of me too. I don’t have cable so I am limited to just the major networks and there really isn’t much to watch on them. Other then Person of Interest and Elementary, OUAT wraps up my TV watching in a nutshell. So to me, passing over Fantasy and Sci-Fi shows for EMMY’s is just plain ridiculous!!! It really means that there are a lot of good actors that are just swept under the rug just because of the genre they happen to be employed in. Something about that just don’t seem right!!! Not that I have any idea what you could do about it. Maybe start up an awards show for the genres of Fantasy and Sci-Fi only. Call it the *Fantasci Award!!!* OK, it was just a thought. Hey, *Fuck You* Charming!!!
From Tvgasm’s Facebook Page:
“THE MAD HATTER” TO SPIN-OFF FROM “ONCE UPON A TIME” ON ABC. It’s in the early stages as a potential pilot vying for the fall line-up. BUT don’t expect Sebastian Stan, who has played “The Mad Hatter” on OUAT since 2012, to play the role. He won’t be back later this season when the character returns to OUAT either. He’s got another gig in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”. ABC has yet to find a winning TV series since “Once Upon A Time” and are hoping that a spin-off of their only recent HIT will bring them some “MAGIC” as Mr. Gold would say. The two shows would inter-lock with each other on occasion. Hmmmm….. When I think of “spin-offs, I think of “Friends” & “Joey” or “Happy Days” & “Joanie Loves Chachi” or how about “Cheers” & “The Tortellis”…. see what I mean!
Why do we keep losing eye candy? Sebastian Stan was almost Graham level of eye candy for me?
That last sentence wasn’t supposed have a question mark.
Mike: I know that’s what I’m SUPPOSED to feel and it is a mark of effective writing. The show is very character driven and that’s what makes it different from other shows as opposed to plot but sometimes I think even the writers get a little lost in their ideas. I also agree, it’s sad that Fantasy/SciFi is almost virtually ignored. Especially considering these are family shows, the actors are going above and beyond what is necessary an it’s fantastic!
Sagi: Is that real? I hate that idea! It’s terrible! Why would they have someone different play Jefferson on the show?! There are enough characters, I’d rather they just mention him. I hate when they do that, it ruins the continuity and Once could totally work around this problem instead of hiring another actor…I love Sebastain Stan, there is no other option! I reject this entire premises.
THE MAD HATTER??? I’m not sure what to think of that. A spin off sounds like a really bad idea to me. I say this because OUAT has a tendancy of growing cold. It’s like it takes to long for some of the stories to play out because there isn’t enough time to do it in one episode. Yet they still try to do it in a lot of cases so then it seems rushed. Leaving half of the story up to us in a sense and that is just short sighted story telling to me. I personally think that they would be better off trying to perfect this show before trying to go spinning off on it. Perhaps ruining both shows. This idea is better off a couple of years down the line in my opinion. Which don’t really mean a whole lot to anybody else I’m sure.
Perhaps they think that they are doing better with the show then I think they are doing. So in turn they think that they can just add more staff. Such as writers, producers and directors and be able to make a better story for both shows. I think though that this would put to much pressure on both shows. Causing both to get so convoluted that nobody would be able to keep up with even one show. Let alone two of them.
Now for the disclaimers. I, in no way, shape or form know anything about the abilities of anyone that works for Once Upon A Time. Nor do I have any idea what so ever as to what it takes to put a production like this on. From it’s beginning stages till it winds up on our TV screens for us to either enjoy or not I am truely in the dark. So basicly what I am saying here is that I am just a dumb, stupid, idiot that really has no idea what I am really even talking about here. It’s just my opinion. So it doesn’t make any difference whether it’s, wrong or right or in between. It’s just me being a dumbass with nothing better to do. Sad ain’t it????? <3 <3 <3
@iwanna – It appears that we posted at exactly the same time. How crazy is that??? As far as changing characters goes. This ain’t no damned Soap Opera!!! You can’t just break in right before the scene starts and have some announcer say, *The Mad Hatter will now be played by Whoeverthehell!!!* That just ain’t right!!! Have these guys gone off the deep end or what?????
Mike: I am concerned the show is going to go off the deep end completely alienate it’s audience. Apparently Lost did that so it’s completely possible. I just don’t understand why they can’t wait until Sebastian Stan comes back from filming the movie? How long does it take to film a movie?! Three months?! Six months?! I know he was offered to be a regular and turned it down in pursuit of other things but the show doesn’t need him to be a regular, they beauty is they can write the story anyway they want, they have so many characters to choose from instead. People are not going to accept another Hatter, the new actor isn’t even going to have a chance because there’s going to be an uproar. I understand Once not being a priority for some actors…It appears Eion Bailey aka August isn’t interested in being a regular either, especially when you’re offered other opportunities like Captain America 2 but still…They can’t just replace Sebby!!! I am not okay with this!
I feel like we’ve gone slightly off topic so I’ll mention that apparently Once is at it again and there is a “minor” death in the next episode and a “sizable” death in the episode after…So do we dare take guesses on who’s death leaves widespread consequences in episode 16 “The Miller’s Daughter”?
@iwanna – The show has definitely went a couple of places I would have rather it not. Just recently even, with Nealfire being Henry’s dad. I knew better but I kept on hoping they wouldn’t do that. It doesn’t mean I am going to get my panties in a wad and quit watching the show. It’s just that every time this happens it kind of pisses me off a little. It’s also something that just kind of sticks way back in that little dark corner of the brain. Now as this happens over and over again. It starts to build up in that corner until it gets so much in it that I start tripping over it. Then pretty soon as it progresses it will eventually make me mad.
Now I did watch LOST till the horrific conclusion. Even though I started really disliking the show after the second season. By the time the sixth season started I down right hated the show completely. If it wasn’t for a website called *Why LOST Sucks* I would have quit watching after the third season for sure!!! So knowing that some of this crew came from there I was very skeptical of this show. So far I can’t complain to much about it. They really haven’t left us hanging out to dry on anything just yet. Plus outstanding performances on occasion by the supporting cast keep me coming back for more. I know that they don’t want to go changing up cast members instead of working around the problem. Because that will make for a highly disgruntled audience. Which isn’t a good thing any way you look at it. Hopefully they will figure out how to work around these minor inconveniences that may arise…..
I think the show is spinning its wheels. Too many minor characters, too many possible story threads. I’m sorry, but Rumpy did not lose his memory; the producers are rewriting history. The whole Regina/Cora relationship feels completely plot-driven to me. It’s getting to be too much of a soap opera where complications occur for the sake of it and characters change personalities from scene to scene. Maybe it’s just the sophomore jinx; I hope so. But the fact that they’re even considering a spin-off makes me seriously doubt the judgment of the writers and producers behind this show.
heehee—the Family Tree—-lets not forget that Milah is Henry’s gramma and she slept with both Rumpy and Hook-bbwwaaahhaaaa–I have to go to a family dinner with this group–lol
back to reading
@7 j538—-August is Rumpy’s undoing?? I like it!!!!!!
I am wondering if the “undoing” will come as a result of true love which breaks spells.
@ Wendybird–passing tissues, chicken soup and saltines–Feel better honey!!!!!!!!!
@14 Wendy– I think the fact that the big reveal was type-written worked very well. I love the idea of that all stories are being told. I must admit I was hoping for a crystal ball like in Wizard of OZ that showed turmoil and chaos and that cool purple smoke, but the simplicity of the sentence “I know you’re Baelfire” was awesome.
@ 19 I Want—I looked as carefully as I could at Nealfire’s apt ( love that name–props to who ever coined it)—it looks like he spent some time in Wonderland owing to the cards and the hatter sign. That would make him buddies with Jefferson. Now that there is a teaser out that Nealfire knows Hook-squee-yes he is a Lost Boy too. I like that storyline for him. Also Cora is playing Regina in a major way–Regina believes Cora wants to help her and Regina is so vulnerable and lonely that she is grasping at the straw. Cora’s endgame–total power. Regina’s–Henry.
ANother set of props to whoever noticed the use of red and black in the eipsode–In fairy tales women wear white, red and black to signify points in life–white for child, red for mother and black for crone. Sorry Babs Hershey you are though divine.
SOme questions I have—-The “undoing” could be the curse breaking b/c of true love–we can see it with Belle and Rumpy-has he permitted himself to love her??? To love is to be vulnerable which can feel weak to some people. Emma broke the curse with true love’s kiss to Henry (Lordy-how I sobbed at that scene). Will Rumpy’s undoing be becoming a family and getting Nealfire back?
Who gave Snow the fairy tale book that she gave to Henry?
Give me more Ogre Wars!!! When did they begin and why? Is there an equivalent in SB??? Who brought Henry to SB?
Will we get Rumpy’s back story? The coward father, the spinsters who raised him. He was sublime in this episode–got a little misty when he held baby Baelfire. Robert Carlyle’s mother abandoned him when he was a small child–just remembered that.
OK my loves—that’s it for right now. I will ponder over the use of numbers for Nealfire (heehee–I really like that name)—13, 89 and 407. You know my idea of page numbers–so that could be related to stories he falls into. Emma’s apartment had words written on her door. I have the DVD collection of Season 1 (thanks to Mr Cawfee). ANd whenever I can I am treating myself to a whole weekend of viewing.
Last thought–not sure if this was said yet—could Nealfire be Rumpy’s undoing????? I love the idea of August though–bring him back into the storylines too.
OK– we knew I’d be back right?? I have a few musings to toss out—and they go like this:
1) Hook and Nealfire know each other as per the Canadian preview–does Hook know him as Neal Cassady or as Baelfire (son of Milah)???
2) What story tie-ins will he have?? Rumpy has more than one, so logically (well Cawfee logic) Nealfire should have more than one. And the follower to that is:
3) What story then are Emma and Neal???
4) And the logic follow to that is what story is Henry?? Is he acting independently–like a reader?????
Damn—this is the best show ever!!!!!!!!!!! EMMY’s be screwed.
Best show ever is asking a lot. Ever watched Breaking Bad??? For some reason I want to say that it was August who brought Henry to Storybrooke. I really don’t know why I even think this. Perhaps it was speculation by somebody. It would kind of make sense, since he was kind of keeping track of things during the curse years…..
Maryedith: I think you’re right, maybe it is a sophomore slump…I mean granted people I know are still getting sucked in left and right but my standards from season one are still way higher and this season has just not lived up to it’s potential…yet…I’m tired of the slight of Han the writers are doing too, I get creating a mystery of some sorts through interviews but like I’m beginning to think that saying Ariel was coming this season was baiting and it’s not nice. I want the continuity back.
Cawfee: Oh how I’ve missed you! Can we please kind of discuss the possibility that if Milah was alive Hook would be Henry’s Step Grandfather. Now let’s imagine that Hook and Emma get together and Hook becomes Henry’s Step Father, I can’t it just keeps getting funnier.
That is sooo interesting about the colors!!!
This whole thing I Bael ending up somewhere else does not jibe with the fact that he was SUPPOSED to go to a land without magic…Are beans like Floo Powder? Can you end up somewhere different if you think the wrong idea at the wrong second?! This whole thing frustrates me because it feels like a major continuity error but I don’t want to believe the writers would do that.
Let’s see how many of your questions I can answer…”Undoing” is such a huge word in this context I think it could mean almost anything! I’m leaning toward a self fulfilling prophecy thing which means Rumpel is going to wrestle with what to do and the idea that the action of inaction causes something for better or worse. I’m not surprised that the notion if killing Henry has come up again given that the end of last season it really felt like they might kill him.
I’ve wondered about how the book got into Snow’s hands. Apparently we’re going to find out more about the author of the book, I’m not sure why this is important unless they’re a fairy tale character, admittedly I thought it was August before I realized he was Pinocchio and this typewriter business certainly reignites that theory.
I had assumed August brought Henry to Storybrooke but then no one knew who he was when he arrived, I think I mentioned this in the previous recap, and Rumpel asked Emma if she trusted August. I know Rumpel made the deal that brought Henry to Storybrooke but who actually did the physical bringing is a complete mystery.
Bael says he recognizes Hook, Emma knocks Hook out but I’m pretty sure Hook doesn’t recognize Bael, that again goes along with the Lost Boy idea.
August could be Rumpel’s undoing and he ends up in a similar situation as Henry…That’s a really twisted way of explaining the spoiler I know, I’ll stop!
As far as the best show…It’s too young for that…And that award most certainly goes to Doctor Who in my eyes but it’s good, it’s up there, just as long as they don’t fuck it up like Lost.
Mike, I want it to be August! But I’m not sure. We will learn what makes Regina decide to adopt and I can’t wait to see what Storybrooke was like in full curse mode without Henry or Emma!
But that might be because we get Graham! And that’s always a good thing! I really hope these breaks stop for a while. It’s be nice to have a new episode for the next few weeks I a row again.
@34 Mike– I thought that August brought him too. It would make sense August keeping tabs on Henry but was it Gold who gave Henry to Regina???? Never watched Breaking Bad—will put it on my ever-growing list of “Great Shows I am Not Currently Watching”. I may be able to give it my Boardwalk Empire timeslot or Friday Night Lights in rerun spots.
@ 35 I Want–smoochers love—missed you too. I watched maybe one episode of Lost and could not get into at all. I am on board with self-fulfilling prohecy–esp since it goes back to something that Milah said to Rumple about his father. “Undoing” could mean surrendering his dark power and being a good man–Belle has said this to him. And Belle would be Henry’s step-grandmother the librarian!!!!
I think I need to google the anthology of Neal Cassady–maybe their are clues there. Something to lead us to where Nealfire has been.
I still need to know what ended the Ogre’s War and what began it as well—Also to crack the code of Rumple’s dad–what fairy tale/fictional characters are cowardly or fearful??
And lastly both Emma and Henry are names of fictional characters—just mentioing that.
Oh and 915.63—-am going to google the date—September 15, 1963 and see what pops up.
Just googled that date—omgl– on that date four little girls were killed in the Atlanta Church bombing. The bomb was set by the Klan.
Cawfee, Yes Gold gave Henry to Regina, an early episode in the first season, maybe even the pilot Gold taunts Regina about Henry bringing Emma to town. And he makes a subtle comment about didn’t he ever wonder where he got Henry from? And then I think Regina checks the book but Henry had ripped out the pages…So Rumpel made the deal…Did Rumpel find the connection between Emma and Henry? I’m sure he was keeping tabs on everything…August seems the most likely because he was on the outside. He knew Emma had gone to jail, he took the money and ran but perhaps before that maybe he sent a letter to Rumpel to let him know that if there was a baby who needed adopting…August knew where Storybrooke was…It had to have been a fairy tale character who brought Henry…Prior to the curse breaking I don’t think anyone could find Storybrooke…Otherwise it wouldn’t be such a big deal that Greg is around, the magic stuff aside.
I think that Rumpel will probably give up the Dark One and so really it’s only a part of him that gets undone but it’s his strongest part. However getting rid of the Dark One will give him his family and Belle and it takes a very strong person to let go of their crutch…This goes very nicely with the “love is strength” stuff…But how does one get rid of the Dark One without being killed?
What’s weird about this crazy messed up family tree is Bae could be given a sibling and Emma could be given a sibling and so Henry’s aunts/uncles would be younger than him…
I know it’s a long shot but because of the name Neal Cassidy and thieving I would love to see Nealfire(jumping on the bandwagon even though I like Bael better because of the True Blood link) be Aladdin…It doesn’t work because then Jasmine has no one, except we find out a lot about Neal and well…He’s not exactly single and ready to rekindle things with Emma, which explains why he didn’t go looking for her after August’s post card. But it’d be cool if he also knows Sydney…Makes you wonder how many people in Storybrooke he’ll know and how he escaped the curse, if our world isn’t the first place he ended up.
It’s hard to imagine that Rumpelstiltskin is the product of another fairy tale but that’s exactly what Once likes to do, it’s like an origin story within an origin story…His father was a coward…Hmmmm…I am drawing a complete blank, I’ll have to think about this more!
It amazes me the things you notice sometimes, Cawfee…I wonder if the date is significant to something else…A publishing date? It’s not the year that Storybrooke came to be…Storybrooke has only been around 28 years…Hmmm…
Hey Dearies, the wait is almost over but I just watched the stream from PaleyFest of the Once panel and some interesting and really interesting things were brought up. I’m sure there will be a transcript on ther interwebs shortly but I figured I’d share what struck me as the most interesting…Since the episode is on tonight and we’ll have a new recap soon I’ll probably post the info again for further discussion.
First on an unrelated not there is a ship for Hook and the Floor, it’s called Flook and I am officially a Flooker, this happened because he keeps getting knocked out so obviously he loves the floor, I think it’s hilarious. Also, Colin broke his leg in this episode so it’ll be a while before we see him again but the writers said he shows up in a surprising way.
Now on to the fun bits!
One of the head writers said that whole undoing stuff is very interesting because the last time Rumpel was given a choice between love and magic he choose magic so, has he learned anything or what chance does his Grandson have? The whole idea of undoing, which we’ve been discussing was brought up amongst the cast and how ambiguous it is, one of them rhetorically asked What is Henry undoing? And one of the writers said, Is undoing a bad thing and as an after thought added, probably.
There was the whole thing if Emma and Hook brought up so the moderate asked what would Charming and Snow do if they saw Emma looking at Hook the wrong way and Ginnifer Goodwin said to Josh Dallas, “I’ll let you fake this one, Daddy” and then Josh went into a nice thing about how much the Charmings care about Emma and how they would protect her but not stop her and even awwwed and then Josh hugged Jennifer Morrison and did an adorable southern accent saying, “She’s mah baby” and I had the vapors…Excuse me my crush is showing! Anyway then Jen said, “I want to know when you’re going to punch Neal for sending me to jail?” And I squeed because she thinks just like us! lol!
Then there was some great stuff about the episode in a few weeks “Welcome to Storybrooke” it takes place the first week of the curse, Graham is of course back and GusGus!
They are not recasting Jefferson, this just means they do not know when he will return but there will be no other actor except Sebby as our beloved Hatter!
Episode 17 is titled “Lacey” and the cast have away a BIG SPOILER ON THIS ONE! Belle is Lacey, it’s her cursed persona, she’s the opposite of Belle, very racey lol! It’s very similar to Charming. David’s cursed persona took over shortly after he woke up from the coma.
There is no significance to the Star Wars ringtone, it just felt modern world to the writers, the writers love Star Wars and it was originally going to be an Adele song but that would have cost a ridiculous amount of money.
Ruby is the Big Bad Wolf of the three little pigs but the cast would not discuss any other character crossovers that occur this season.
We are going to see a new land…Neverland?! Oz?!
The Final two episodes are like two parts like last season and they are titled:
“Second Star to the Right”
“And Straight On Til Morning”
However, we will not meet Peter Pan and Tink until next season, but it’s possible they are in Storybrooke!
The writers pointed out that everything that motivates Regina is love, even what is going on with Cora, she just has a strange way of going and getting it.
We are not going to find how August knew Neal was Bae this season but it is something the writers want to see so it will probably come up in season 2.
There was no discussion of Ariel so but I can’t see how we’re going in that direction. Oz was brought up but it is unclear if we see that this season.
I’m thinking this land we visit is Neverland because the writers said that the character in the land will not show up this season and with the titles of the last two episodes…But it could be Oz…Maybe we don’t meet Dorothy yet…Maybe Wendy and Dorothy are the same person?!
And finally, Cawfee, your info on the white, red and black comes up again. Snow starts this episode in white but ends it in black…Though this might be more symbolic of a personality shift instead of a life phase shift.
Wow, what terrible birthday!
My sentiments exactly, Sagi! Also Cora…I just…I’m fuming! And I thought Regina already knew that Cora had orechastrated the saving Snow thing…I’m just…CORA!!!
She did, I think that was just memory refresher for causal viewers.
And a lead in for Cora to reveal exactly how she made them meet.
Boo! You can’t keep up, you get left behind! So someone does next week! I’m curious who though I have a theory and this is the episode I was right about the more important thing, it’s on next week!
Note to self and I suppose anyone who wants to respond: What did Cora mean “Snow will know what it feels like to be the miller’s daughter?” She wa talking about herself right? Because that makes no sense if he was talking about Regina…Unless…I’m getting myself confused!
Dies*** also in my comment earlier I meant season 3 not season 2
@ iwanna Dang, now I am really confused!!!
I would like to start out by saying. For such a gawd awful boo fricken hoo episode, I did like it. Don’t get me wrong, I still think Charming is a dipshit through and through. But!!! By the end of the episode, I think I might have, even if it is just a slight passing thought. I think I might have started liking Snow. I know. I know. I can’t hardly believe it myself. Now I did like her at one time. Back when she was WANTED and she was going to kill the Queen and wound up shooting Charming instead. I did like her then. Now a dark sided Snow might just be fun to watch. Maybe she will shoot Charming again!!! I would love her then!!! It swat I’ma hoping for anyhoo…
I was kind of suprised when Cora went ahead and threw the old maid out the window. I wasn’t quite ready for her to go and do something like that. You know how these blood thirsty writers are. With their, *Somebody gonna DIE* attitude. So who is it going to be next week??? Can’t be Henry, can it???
Then there is that poor Hook. That poor bastard just can’t win with them women. Last time Cora and Regina knocked his dumbass out. This time it was Emma. When is this guy gonna learn??? One of these times he is really gonna get hurt!!! He needs to learn to do his bidding when there ain’t no women around!!!!!
OK–am tossing this out quickly before I read the posts—-Um–DAMN SNOW!!!!! You had the dagger-summon the dark power and use it to protect SB and banish Cora!!!!!!
Nealfire—Peter Pan rather than a Lost Boy (my original thought–making the fiance either Tink or TigerLilly?????? So maybe Greg (blessedly not in the episode) is Aladdin?????
I think some characters like Rumpy are going to get alot of story tie ins—I have my Grimm’s at the ready and will get to it today.
We all knew that Cora was the Miller’s daughter–but the fairy tale says “a child”–not gender specific—Does Cora have another child out there??????????
Mike, It was a setup episode as opposed to a filler episode and setup episodes can be good. I thought it had a lot of stuff going on all at once but the intensity will come in the next episode. I like that Johanna was the last straw for Snow. She gave in to Cora to be good but now, she’s made a huge transition from the light and it’s exciting to see. She won’t kill Charming though, don’t get your hopes up.
Hook/Floor Forever!!! Like I said, he won’t be around for a bit because he broke his leg for reals.
Cawfee, I am going to attribute that stupidity to Snow not knowing how the dagger works.
Did anyone catch the Star Wars reference with Blue? “Mother Superior, help us! You’re our only hope!”…Twitter was buzzing lol!
I hope Greg isn’t Aladdin, he’s not Arabian enough…And also he’s really annoying and Aladdin is not.
I see where you’re going Cawfee, that some tales are being created in Storybrooke and that’s how Tamara is TigerLilly but Tamara is someone we need to discuss…I don’t see her being so accepting of Neal being Rumpel’s son, let alone having a son he didn’t know about…She seemed nice but it’s a lot to take in, if she was from Neverland or FairyTale Land, I imagine she would know a little more about Neal and his past and come with him. Given that we don’t meet Peter or Tink this season and the finale probably ends right before an introduction I’m still sticking with Nealifire being a lost boy, especially if we get to see Neverland, what better way to introduce it than with a Lost Boy? Plus when stuff starts to calm down in Storybrooke, even for half a minute, I’m sure Peter, whoever he is will recognize Nealfire and that’ll be interesting…But yeah, I feel like Neal is not Peter because we find out more about how he knows Hook. One thing is for sure, there is no way Tink is a nun…Where is the sassy little pixie?!
@ iwanna Oh No, I don’t want Snow to kill Charming!!! I just want her to shoot him again. If she were to kill him then I wouldn’t have anybody to make fun of. Where’s the fun in that??? I would quit watching the show for sure!!!
Now Rumpty Dumpty’s little remark about never being without the dagger. Was that just a throw away line or what??? Is it possible that the dagger Cora possesses is a fake??? I don’t know how he could of gotten through Airport Security with it though. But he is a tricky old fart!!! (I am like three months older then he is) OK, so maybe old fart is a little much!!!
The deal with Cora being the Miller’s daughter has my poor brain (what little I have left) in a tizzy. If she were the Miller’s daughter I would think that she would have been married to a King. That’s how the story goes anyway. I just didn’t see old man Henry as King material. So then it makes me wonder if by some remote chance that Snow’s Momma was also the Miller’s daughter and Snow was actually the baby that Rumpty Dumpty was after??? That sure would be convoluting the hell out of things that’s for sure. Knowing where some of these crew members of the show came from though would make that very possible. I trust them not!!! So I guess we gotta wait on a little more Cora backstory in order to prove that I have no fricken idea what so ever as to what the hell I am even talking about here. So there ya go!!!!!
Cawfee:Don’t foget Hans Christian Anderson.
@Mike: They always gives the stories a twist. So it’s possible that Cora’s the Miller’s daughter. And if she was expecting to Queen and that didn’t happen, doesn’t that explain why she wanted Regina to be queen so bad. Maybe part of the reason she killed Snow’s mother is because the King chose her over Cora.
This should alleviate some confusion, here’s the official synopsis for the next episode: Cora’s desire to rid herself of Rumplestiltskin in order to take his place as The Dark One takes one step closer to becoming reality as she and Regina try to overpower a dying Mr. Gold, and Mary Margaret is once again tempted by dark magic. Meanwhile, in the fairytale land that was, Rumplestiltskin agrees to offer his services to a younger Cora — for a price — when the king calls her bluff and orders her to actually follow through on her boast of being able to spin straw into gold.
OK, yea, I see. I was wrong about Snow’s Mom maybe being the Miller’s kid. Yep, It’s alright. I been there before. I can handle it. Yep. I sure can. You guys just couldn’t wait to rub my nose in it. Then kick me out the door. Yea. OK. I see how it is around here. Kick a guy when he’s down. That’s OK. I’ll get back up again. Yea. You’ll see. You will. Yes you will dammit cuz I said so!!!!!
That’s my cry baby, whiney butt, feeling all kinds of butt hurt because I was wrong personality. Just one of many!!!!!
Hey nerds! This was on buzzfeed yesterday thought you may enjoy…
http://www.buzzfeed.com/louispeitzman/16-things-we-learned-from-the-cast-of-once-upon-a-time
Hook is dressed like my first bf from 1997 in that first picture. And that is not a compliment *shudders*
One way to see if the dagger Cora has is fake: Check the spelling. If it says RUMPLESTILTSKIN, it is the original (spelled incorrectly); if it say RUMPELSTILTSKIN, then it is a fake. Damn, I love this show!
Awesome story line for Belle!!!!!! Is she Lolita??? Is it a Jekyll and Hyde thang????? The girl your mom warned you about????
@ 50 Sagi– thanks for the reminder love!!!! Got my antho at the ready—Yes I am a complete and total nerd.
@Cawfee: I have complete collections of both Grimm and Hans. The fancy ones from Barnes and Noble.
@ Pikey578 That’s right. I had totally forgot about that. I remember when I first seen it I thought there was something weird about the spelling. I even looked it up to make sure that they had spelled it wrong. Does that make me a nerd or what???
I never really thought of myself as a nerd. Now my Son, he’s a geek. Isn’t that a nerd plus a little something else??? I don’t think I fit in that catagory either. I fit in a little more in the catagory of *Ate up with the dumbass!!!* Although I am really to stupid to be directly associated with that catagory. I think I really fit in more along the lines of the, *God Damn Freak of Fricken Nature* catagory!!!
Good one Pikey!!!!!! Thats one of those little twists we love.
Sagi–awesome!!!! Is your Grimm the one with the orange cover??? It has a scary crone/witch on it and a turkey. Thats the one I have. My HCA was a gift–its an out of control one edited by Maria Tatar.
If you can get one (and are a little nerdy like yours truly) try to get a copy of “The Classic Fairy Tales” edited by Tatar. Its a Norton Critical edition with lots of nifty notes and criticism.
I am going to watch the epsiode again—-I may lost power tomorrow as we brace for a big storm here—and will make notes. I dont know why I was so distracted this week—will focus and comment responsibly.
rofl—-my capcode is……..draw a blank.
Lodry–CC—you rarely disappoint.
@Cawfee: No my Grimm are the Barnes and Noble leatherbound classics. The Grimm is green with Rapunzel on it. And has a gold leaf design on the cover and gold edge pages. The Hans is the same except with Thumbelina and a floral design.
I love nerds! I’m a nerd. I went on a day long tangent to two friends about Buffy’s death in season 5…on Facebook…in public…and now I’m bringing it up again… I feel like anything you can obsess about and still be funny and interesting makes you a nerd.
