Regina shows up at Archie’s (aka the cricket formerly known as Jiminy), saying it’s been two days since she quit magic cold turkey. It’s tough cause it’s how she’s always gotten everything, she confesses. Ahh, but also how she’s always lost everything, Archie counters. Thought provoking.
Whale barges in on their session, demanding to be sent back to “his” land. And what land might that be? We know the reveal is coming, and I’ll give the creators credit for learning from past mistakes: Don’t drag things out for too long, and too unnecessarily other than the fact that you can. Regina acts offended/confused, telling him to check the missing board. Whale wants to return to his (deceased) brother, but evidently her curse only brought over the living. Archie calls bullshit, but Regina (awesomely) says she can give a rat’s ass about neither Whale NOR his dead brother, and that she brought who she wanted to bring. Essential personnel only, if you will (and if you’re on the eastern seaboard, you’ve heard that phrase plenty today).
I’m reminded of a Jerry Seinfeld bit on Halloween (timely!) where he talks about shitty candy vs. “name” candy. I feel like Regina left those she deems the “shitty” characters behind and only brought the “name” people. This is how my mind works, so if you were expecting deep theories… sorry (that wink is a typing tic from my “Miss Advised ” days). Archie reminds Regina that magic is much harder to stop than start.
Word. (Sorry, wrong show again)
Cue Flashback: Regina is now Rump’s apprentice. He has her freeze a unicorn via magic and wants her to take its heart. Should she do this correctly, no harm will befall the horse – unless, of course, she wants it to. But…she simply doesn’t have the heart to follow through. Rump takes the heart instead and explains it’s now enchanted, stronger than a normal heart. Added bonus: the heart-taker gets to control whom/whatever the heart came from! Regina starts to crush the heart as we’ve seen her do before on this show. But for now, she is only like ¼ parts asshole, so she simply cannot. Rump tells her to figure out what’s holding her back, or to GTFO.
In her present-day therapy session, Regina tells Archie that she has preserved Daniel’s body with an enchantment spell and stored it next to Walt Disney and Ted Williams for safekeeping. Archie says if she can’t let go of the past, it’s doomed to haunt her. With that, Regina’s had enough and bounces. Archie looks disheartened, but Rome wasn’t built in a day, homeboy.
[Side note: Archie phrased several Qs about who Regina brought here and why in a way that makes me think what he’s really getting at is whether or not his parents are here somewhere. Is there some clause with this spell that people who have been turned into lifeless entities such a puppets can’t be made human again without some type of additional enchantment? We’ve definitely seen his parents in marionette form in Rumpy’s shop before, correct? And neither they nor Pinoc have been made human again.]
